‘Breaking Dawn: Part 1’ full-length trailer: wherein Kristen Stewart “acts”

dawn1

The full-length trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 1 was finally released. Previously, we’ve gotten teaser trailers and such, but this trailer contains full-on Twihard goosebump junk, like Bella’s father getting emotional about walking her down the aisle, and stuff about Bella (spoiler) being pregnant and how the baby is killing her from the inside. I’ve also included some of the new posters too. Here’s the trailer and some of my general thoughts on the trailer:

*First and foremost, poor Billy Burke. I like him as an actor so much, and he’s been a talented character actor for years and years. And now he’s known to an entire generation as “Bella’s dad”. The good thing about Burke’s appearance in the films is that he gives some much-needed emotional depth and weight. The bad thing? He’s now famous for the Twilight franchise.

*Will Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2 finally be the films where we see Sparkles and K-Stew “act”? Because now that I’m finally caught up on the franchise (Showtime won’t STOP showing New Moon and Eclipse), I have to say… they are both BAD actors. Taylor Lautner is the worst, and then by K-Stew, and then I’d put Sparkles a little bit higher – he actually tries, and whenever Edward has to weep sparkle-tears, Pattinson sells it.

*Interesting makeup work – Kristen’s “sickly” makeup looks especially good, but they seem to have gone overboard on Sparkles’ wedding powder. I thought he was Michael Jackson for a moment.

* I can’t wait to see the honeymoon sex scenes. I just… can’t wait. Feathers and sparkles and busted headboards, oh my!

  1. Ms Smith says:

K Stew and the rest of them do a reasonable job given the source material. Even Meryl Streep would struggle. Therefore all the actors involved get a pass from me for Twlight. Their other films not so much.

  2. geekychic says:

Most of the people who don’t like twilight or aren’t obsessed with Sparkles will say that he is, by far, the worst-especially because he takes himself so very seriously. i agree with lainey.;)
and come on, Kaiser, i know you hate kstew, but he’s just laughable.
oh well, every person has it’s own taste, i guess.

  3. RocketMerry says:

I like Kristen, but this movie is going to be catastrophic. The subject per se is horribly structured, so even with terribly good actors the thing would have been bad. But then, they got semi-actors to perform, and they actually feel and act embarrassed to be doing what they are doing. Bad, bad, bad.
This kind of sets my hopes for teenagers’ culture lower than ever.

  4. Eve says:

I had never seen a proper movie with Kirsten Stewart (I don’t think Zathura counts as a showcase for “acting ability”).

So some days ago I watched Fierce Society (because of my third husband Chris Evans) and there she was…oh boy, she really can’t act. Please, don’t come and say that it was because she was young back then because Anton Yelchin is in the same movie, he’s about her age and he’s simply perfect (also, his part is considerably more difficult to play).

  5. Quest says:

I don’t think K-Stew needs to act out any sick looking parts…this will come normal to her. She can’t act much in my book, even when you look at earlier roles she took on.

Taylor L always makes me reflect on Shark Boy/Lava Girl thing every time I see him.

  6. Samigirl says:

I know Bella is supposed to be worried about the wedding and stuff, but JEEZUMS. She can’t’ act for sh*t.

  7. Dorothy#1 says:

True that none of the “actors” can act, BUT I am excited for this!!!

  8. Eve says:

By the way, I was never able to muster up the strength, energy and patience to watch any of the Twilight movies (not even for comedic reasons). And I feel sorry for all the real actors who have to do movies like these in order to pay the rent/mortgage.

  9. Kiki says:

Kristen is looking a beautiful bride. And I have to agree about the Billy Burke “Bella’s dad” status. I loved him in The Closer a few years back.

  10. LOVE ANGELINA says:

So. Going. To. See. This. That trailer looked amazing. It looks alot better then other movies even though I enjoyed each one. Yes I am excited to see the sex scene. LOL Any man going at it so hard you blackout….OMG I have to see this movie. I know they don’t go into detail but seeing the headboard break in the trailer got me all giddy.

  11. Cheyenne says:

Pattinson seems to take himself the least seriously of the three of them. He acts like he knows the whole thing is a crock.

The movie will succeed one one level at least. It will make a shitload of loot.

  12. mia girl says:

I have seen all the movies, agree with those who say Meryl Streep couldn’t even find a way to shine through these scripts… But there is something about the movies that I like – maybe it’s the cheesiness and the melodrama. Or maybe it is just that I like to look at Pattinson.

I actually thought the trailer was good and showed that Bill Condon might have been able to improve the cheesefest a little bit.

  13. Emma says:

I wish the script would dramatically stray from the book…Like, Bella ends up with Jacob and they raise a vamp baby. Then Sparkles is all pouty and wants revenge, but Jacob beats his pale face up. Let’s face it, Jacob is the manlier of the two. Then the wolf pack gets jealous and becomes BFF with the vamps in the end. lol That would be awesome, and may get more of an audience than just the twihards.

  14. Jezi says:

I love Twilight *hangs head in shame*…I am a tween at heart. It looks actually better than the teasers. Can’t wait.

@Kaiser I LOL’d at your Sparkles looks like Michael Jackson comment and the comment about the sex scene. I agree though, I’ve been waiting for them to do the nasty since the first movie. Let’s get it on already.

  15. ashley says:

I actually think Pattinson’s a really good actor, though he’s generally typecast as a brooding sort, which he does excellently. I still cry everytime I watch Remember Me, and while I still hate the casting of Water for Elephants, he was a really good Jacob.

  16. ladybert62 says:

    (1) To me, she always looks either sickly, bored or stupid
    (2) I dont understand the attraction of either of these two.

  17. mel says:

I can’t wait to see the movie!!! Breaking Dawn is such a HORRIBLE book…so all the actors get passes because the material they have to work with is so bad. I have tried reading the book like 3 times and just can’t because it sucks. Love Rob and Kristen together…and yes I know how lame I am….LOL

  18. Flan says:

She looks genuinely happy in the second to last picture.

Glad to see her like that; it’s the first time.

  19. Perry R. says:

Well, to be fair, the original text they’re working on is already very bad.

  20. mia girl says:

I just read this at HuffPo and laughed out loud. Even if you are a fan, you have to laugh at this description of the trailer:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/13/breaking-dawn-trailer-watch_n_961346.html

Excerpt: “We get our first good glimpse of the insanely persistent Bella and complicatedly dreamy Edward Cullen taking their wedding vows (which makes Jacob sad!), and then the how-did-they-do-that pregnancy of the new couple.
Mr. Cullen has such strong seed, apparently, it not only defies the laws of life & death (staying fresh for over 90 years of discontinued use) but also implants into his wife’s womb a rapidly growing, energy-sucking offspring that threatens her very existence (making Jacob even more sad!).”

  21. Eve says:

LMAO at the excerpt Mia Girl posted. Thanks, girl.

  22. Ms Smith says:

    @mia girl. LMAO.
That pretty much somes it up.
RPatz summed it up afew years ago when he said after reading the books he felt like he was reading a middle aged womans wet dream.

  23. Leigh says:

I love the Twilight series and books. BUT I do not think any of them can act (Rpats,KStew or Taylor Lautner).. lol.. They’re all perfectly cast for these roles – outside of them, no thanks.

  24. Erinn says:

I loved the Twilight books when I was reading them in 11th/12 grade. This last one came out in my first year of University, and I actually tossed it across the room because it was such bullshit. When I though back to the others, I realized how bad they really were…

Edward’s character is ridiculous, and so is Bella’s. The supporting characters were so much better.

    @Love Angeline
    Yeah, internal damage is always sexy -_-;

  25. Malia says:

I fracking love these twilight movies, they are like 2 hour extended mentos commercials with a lot of corny ass goodness.

Kristen looks so tiny and cute when she thinks ehs’ pregnant, she looks like she weighs about ten pounds. And Robert can’t act but he’s sure damn pretty.

  26. Esmom says:

@Mel and Erinn, lol, Breaking Dawn the book was truly horrific. I’m pretty sure I also threw it across the room at one point. And every time I had to read the baby’s ridiculous name it seriously pained me.

I know it was only because publishers saw dollar signs but it’s shameful that it was even published…while real writers with worthy material struggle so mightily.

So yeah I’d say it’s hard to judge the actors given how craptacular the source material is.

  27. CooCooCatchoo says:

LOLZ – a middle aged woman’s wet dream – guilty as charged ha!
Look – You’re either a fan of these books and movies, or you’re not. I love ’em, I loved this trailer, and I plan on seeing it opening day.
I hope the Cullen’s make-up & hair is better this time around, though. Jeebus, that shiz was distractingly bad in the last movie.

  28. geekychic says:

oh, and i have to add one thing: after watching this trailer, i gave up. i just did. twilight was my guilty junk-chic-lit during stressfull studying for bachelor’s degree, and the movies were good for laugh..
i always hated BD (it’s a wet dream for…i don’t know, how’s the name of that cult jeff warren is leader of?)
but this trailer, uh…i was literally ashamed of myself. it’s so cheesy, it’s so over the top, i felt so sad that bella is the image they are pushing toward young girls as ideal life or future… i don’t know, it’s just really creepy. and edward seems like such a boring, boring douche with fishy eyeballs (i don’t know how you say it, but when someone constantly opens his eyes so much, it resembles a fish, and we call it “fishy eyeballs in my language)…ugh…just no.
no to creepy, no to this acting, no to this story, no.
(i do like kstew though. won’t deny, i still like her, although i’m breaking up with twilight.)

  29. Cecizahn says:

Honestly I don’t know why so much hate to the Twilight saga. I know that BD can be over the top. The only difference between True Blood and Twilight is sex…Come on, TB has fairies and brujos and stuff. Maybe Sparkles Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and KStew aren’t the best actors of their generation, but they are not the worst. And kristen’s bit lip is something that the book required.
I’m a twifan and I can recognize that the movies have been decaying from a small fill to an over the top selling tickets and memorabilia thing, but I still like them.

  30. lola says:

I like true blood and twilight, and I think they are both shitty series. lol Soemtimes it’s fun to like things that are low quality, I think it’s just more trendy to rip on twilight cause it’s more prudish. True blood is completely ridiculous and throwaway in terms of substance too.

  31. lizzie says:

    WEDDING POWDER!! that is hilarious.

  32. Ally says:

@Eve, check out Panic Room. She was much younger, but absolutely terrific.

Either she was perfectly directed/edited and/or inspired by co-star Jodie Foster, or she has regressed in her acting as she got older.

  33. Reece says:

Billy Burke is what makes these movies watchable. I love watching him on screen.
In their defense, the source material is crap. So, you know. However, if you take the time to look at their other films, yeah they cannot act. At. All.
Although I am looking forward to Sparkles in Bel Ami. It looks like he has actual facial expressions in that one.
    “Sparkle tears” made lol

  34. Rose says:

I thought KStew was pretty good in the stripper movie she did a while ago…I find her a conundrum, actually…Like Roger Ebert, A.O. Scott-all the important critics love her…but all the gossip bloggers, except for Lainey, tend to dislike her. I actually think Sparkles is the worst of the bunch because he goes between overacting/being wooden…Gay werewolf might make it in Action Films…Then again, its kind of unfair to judge any of them on Twilight because I don’t think anyway could pull it off.

  35. Mourning the Death of Music says:

I still believe Stephen King said it best concerning this entire clusterf*$k of a series.

  36. AcesHigh says:

I have a horrible suspicion that the sex scenes in this movie will be awkward and hilarious… just sayin.

  37. Cherry Rose says:

I read the first book when it first came out, and thought it was pretty mediocre.

There’s a lot of things about the series I don’t like. One is that Bella has no life outside of Edward. Another is the fact that vampires turn to sparkles in the sunlight. WTF is up with that?

And another thing I don’t get. How the heck do vampires, who are supposedly dead, make babies? And a vampire baby at that? It defies all logic.

As for the book being a middle-aged woman’s wet dream, one only has to remember who the author is.

Meh. I can’t wait for the Twilight movies to end.

  38. Dingles says:

I can’t believe this actually exists in the world now.

  39. J.D.M.J. says:

I don’t care if singing monkeys play the roles, I’m seeing this.

  40. Eve says:

    @ Ally (# 32):

Many (good) child actors don’t turn out to be that great later on — perhaps because, while children, their acting is usually instinctive…they “play pretend” while acting and sometimes the result is amazing.

I haven’t seen Panic Room (mostly because I loathe Jodie Foster — who I think is one of these child actors who turned out to be mediocre, at best) but I may check it out someday.

    @ Cherry Rose:

And another thing I don’t get. How the heck do vampires, who are supposedly dead, make babies?

Don’t be silly. Their spermatozoids are undead too! Like tiny little “Spermires”. Therefore they can make undead babies, right? Right????

    @ J.D.M.J.:

If singing monkeys played the roles, I’d probably watch it.

  41. Erinn says:

    @Eve
    hahaha

  42. JaneWonderfalls says:

Just when you think Twilight is over, The Trailer and turmoil began again… Aww why Stephanie Meyer, Why?

  43. LittleDeadGrrl says:

Sad for Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli and Micheal Sheen. All great actors in a terrible fucking movies.

  44. ett says:

I do not think people should mention Meryl fucking Streep, acting and Kristen Stewart in the same sentence. That’s just travesty. The girl plays the same character over and over and over again; ansgty, surly, emotionless voice, dead eye, lip biting, head-shake in every movie.
She can’t act to save her life, and those critics who disagree are just sucking up.

  45. smh says:

calling what she does “acting” is an insult to refrigerators everywhere.

  46. Mandi says:

I think Kristen is a great actress, cannot understand why people rag on her at all. As someone says, the top critic’s love her. Gossip bloggers just crap on her because she doesn’t smile enough.
