Kylie Minogue snubbed Prime Minister Tony Blair

Kylie Minogue turned down a personal request to meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair while they were both staying at the same hotel in Birmingham. Kylie has lent her celebrity to protest the war in Iraq, and Britain’s continued involvement in the war might be the reason she refused to meet Blair:

POP princess Kylie Minogue has snubbed a meeting with Tony Blair in protest against the war in Iraq.

He asked to meet her when they were both in the same hotel – but she turned him down, according to sources.

The 38-year-old Aussie superstar was staying at the Malmaison in Birmingham.

A source said: “The hotel manager passed the message on – but Miss Minogue politely declined.”

Kylie, who has been recovering from breast cancer, is known to be opposed to the Iraq war and it is thought that was the reason behind her refusal.

The Prime Minister spoke about being in the same hotel as Kylie in speeches last year and joked about his spin doctors singing her hit Spinning Around.

Although Kylie is not known for voicing her political views, she took part in the Stop The War Coalition protest in 2003, which saw a million people take to the streets of London.

She was also reported to have agreed to take part in an anti-war concert alongside Coldplay and Robbie Williams, 32, although she didn’t go ahead with it.

That’s too funny and good for Kylie for taking a stand. Blair’s days as Prime Minister of England are numbered. Having lost the support of the people of England along with his political party, Blair announced that he will be stepping down at an unspecified date in the next year.

Kylie is promoting her new children’s book, The Showgirl Princess, “a fanciful recreation of Minogue’s adventures on her last tour.” Some of the illustrations in the book are based on pictures sent to Kylie while she was in the hospital. The book was written during her successful recovery from breast cancer.

Here is Kylie signing her book in London on Saturday, 10/1. [via]
