I love John Cusack! I will see anything with him in it! He’s right up there with Jason Bateman as my favs.

  2. RocketMerry says:

    Sssssscary. But I’ll see it.

  3. meg says:

Nuthin I love more than a hot guy with a goatee n a crow.

  4. bigchili says:

I heart John Cusack. Have since Better Off Dead. I want my two dollars.

  5. Samigirl says:

Ok, I LOVE John Cusack. He’s…great. BUT, he is not dark enough for this role. This role needs a Johnny Depp or Kevin Spacey, someone who is familiar and can play the dark role that was Poe. In fact, after seeing Sweeney Todd, I really REALLY think Johnny Depp is perfect for this role. Sorry, JC, but you’ll always be Lloyd Dobler to me.

  6. lilred says:

    Looks good.I’ll see it

  7. k says:

Why has no one cast him as Jughead in an Archie comics film? He’s perfect for it.

  8. Turtle Dove says:

SAmigirl – Really? I think JC is a great choice for this… right up his alley actually.

    Man, JC looks hot.

  9. california angel says:

    lol meg! awesome: )

  10. Mandi says:

Looks very good! JC fan since way back. I’ll definitely see it! 🙂

  11. the original bellaluna says:

J’adore John Cusack. And Joan. Grosse Point Blank, anyone? 😀

  12. Turd Fergussen says:

How is it that Cusack’s acting ability seems to have gotten worse? Horrible for this role. The movie looks wretched.

  13. ShanKat says:

Please let him still have “it.”

Gather ’round, children, let me tell you about a time, long ago, when Nicolas Cage and John Cusack were dreamy…

    (…and dinosaurs roamed Ventura Blvd.)

  14. Liz says:

Nope – should have been someone with a darker, more consuming acting ability. And also, I have a hard time seeing EAP running around looking for some copycat murderer. Weird. I wish this were awesome

    IOWs: totally agree with @Samigirl

  15. Liz says:

I mean just look at the photo with the owl perched on his arm – how much more un-Poe could he be? Poe was completely overcome by his eerie, pathos sensibilities and the look on Cusacks face in that photo says something like – “oh, cute bird….” not happening

  16. Samigirl says:

@Turtle Dove- When you think of dark, brooding actors, do you automatically think of JC? Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy. High Fidelity will always be one of my all time favorite movies. My husband & I (just friends at the time) reconnected over Hot Tub Time Machine-I will ALWAYS be a JC fan…but he just is NOT dark. At all.
Edgar Allen Poe had tons of tragedy and darkness in his life. He is the number 1 horror write of all time. He wrote stories and poems that we could only wish to think of. John Cusack just is not on that level. I’ll see the movie, because, despite the casting of JC, it looks like it’s going to be good. But, I still think Johnny Depp would have been perfect for the role.

@Liz, you perfectly summed up everything I was trying to say. Pregnancy brain + 4 year old = frazzled mommy.

  17. Quest says:

Have a little cusack crush ever since. Will difinitely take this in, but I agree that JC for the part of Edgar Poe is really a toss up, he is a good actor, we’ll just have to wait

  18. Liz says:

and I just looked again and am embarassed to point out that that bird is not an owl (doesn’t even look like one) but a black RAVEN. (of course!) hahaha. I’m just a little upset about this casting ! 🙂

  19. Camille says:

I love John Cusack so I will definitely be checking this out.

  20. the original bellaluna says:

“Grace is Gone” will break your heart. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it.

  21. Annie_Grey says:

Not a fan of Cusack, but this looks kinda interesting.

  22. Mindy says:

John Cusack will be fine in this… not for nothing, it is NOT a biopic. This is a work of PURE FICTION with the title character being based on a real person. And give the guy some leeway here he’s trying to work outside everyone’s preconceptions of what his “comfort zone” is.
I’ll see it.. he looks hot with the goatee (which, BTW – Kevin Spacey is also wearing right now).

  23. Turtle Dove says:

the original bellaluna (11) – I’ll take your GPB and raise you one Grifters.

Samigirl (16) – He definitely has the looks for the role and not all of his work has been light and fluffy fare. He’ll pull it off. Johnny would be good, but he can be too “Captain Jack” sometimes…. love him though.

  24. Anguishedcorn says:

I love John Cusack, and I love this idea… but the trailer does not lead me to believe this will be good.

  25. Poppy says:

    Love him.

  26. jamie says:

From the trailer it looks a little silly but I LOVE John Cusack and will see anything he’s in. After watching the trailer I can’t help but wonder if the inspector/narrator is the killer as part of some poorly disguised twist. Wow I guess I want to see this more than I thought.

  27. Zzzzzzzzz says:

Love John Cusack. Will see anything with him in it so The Raven is a no-brainer for me.

  28. Estella says:

“Identity” is my favorite movie of all time. Love Cusack!

  29. Original Bee says:

I like John Cusack. But, I barely noticed him because I was staring at that hot guy in the trailer with him. I think they called him the inspector. Who is he?

  30. Sue says:

I’m a huge Edgar Allen Poe fan and as someone said above John Cusack just isn’t dark enough for the role.

  31. smh says:

i don’t want to be too excited for this as any movie i have excitedly waited for turned out to be below mediocre such as the last samurai, 300, black swan etc

  32. the original bellaluna says:

Turtle Dove – I’m on it! But do watch Grace is Gone. It’s so, so heartbreaking.

  33. ds says:

Hi hi hi this is sooo funny. I love Cusack, but the film looks like a combination of Holmes and Sleepy Hollow; which is fine, both ok films but to watch on DVD. Am a bit annoyed by this detective character; too much try hard; even in the trailer…maybe it’s just the edit thing though.

  34. orion70 says:

For all the Johnny Depp comparisons and as much as I love the guy I’ll say, surely this can’t be any worse than Sleepy Hollow.

And add me to the list of Cusack fans. Love him in just about everything. The man never ages.

  35. Samigirl says:

@Original Bee, I was curious too. I IMDB’d it, because he is so tasty.
His name is Luke Evans, and I saw him first, so you can’t have him 😛
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1812656/

  36. Original Bee says:

@Samigirl, prepare to duel at dawn for him. LOL! Thanks for the imdb info. He has several movies coming out soon. All of which I will probably be seeing, now that I know he’s in them. Luke Evans is officially my new crush.

  37. Eve says:

    @ Samigirl:

I agree with your take on Cusack. He’s talented but (I think) a bit too goofy for playing this particular character — in case it has anything to do with the real Poe (who was a indeed depressive and somber). I can totally see Johnny Depp doing this but my (personal) choice would be either Viggo Mortensen or Michael Shannon. Maybe The Fassbender too.

I’m also not feeling the Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes vibe either…will probably watch it though, just so I can hear some of his poems (again).

But nothing (and I mean NOTHNG) can beat this:

  38. Turtle Dove says:

The Original Bellaluna – I’ll check out that title and add it to my expanding list (watching Jane Eyre with Fassie atm).

Eve – Thanks for posting that link. JEJ’s voice is hypnotic.

  39. Angelina Stevens says:

I think John Cusack is perfect for this role…he is a fantastic actor and he really knows how to wrap himself up into the character that he is portraying.

  40. Eve says:

    @ Turtle Dove:

You’re welcome 🙂 . James Earl Jones’s voice is indeed amazing.

  41. the original bellaluna says:

Turtle Dove – It may just resound more with me, as an Officer’s daughter who grew up on base, but it’s really a…I don’t know, resonant movie? It speaks to my heart, and to so many who are currently in that situation. (The whole answering machine/phone call thing just rings so true. I can’t…I just. can’t…)

Estella – Will check it out.

James Earl Jones has an AMAZING voice. It’s like Barry White – unique in it calibre and tone.

  42. Samigirl says:

@Original Bee, I slept in the morning 🙁 Guess you win.

@Eve, Michael Shannon would work, actually. I find him strangely sexy.

@Turtle Dove and ds, you are right about the captain jack & Sleepy Hollow lol. JD flubs sometimes…but watching how insane he got for Sweeney Todd…it impressed me. I just love that damn movie 🙂

  43. zesty says:

Oh, John Cusack…a boombox and some Peter Gabriel. He and his sister are fabulous.

  44. Callumna says:

    @ 11:01

Jezus whadda hottie. Can they just slap Luke Evans on the posters now and make me believe he’s the star?

Because Cusack is thees close to Matthew Broderick as Poe.

  45. JaneWonderfalls says:

@Samigirl I disagree, I’m tired of all the good roles going to Johnny Depp. I think John C is a great actor and can play this role really well.

  46. Alexis says:

This role should have been played by Ed Norton. Clearly.

The premise is cool, but it’s obviously badly executed. Ditch the love interest or make her more like one of Poe’s real-life ones (his child bride or the smart, older, married writer-woman he had a friendship and/or relationship with) rather than a generic blonde cutie, slow it down to a suspense pace rather than action, and again, get Ed Norton for Poe. I should have directed this.

  47. Jen D says:

I’m trying to hate on this, but I’m actually really excited to see it. Also, I’m wondering what stories it’ll emulate. Can you imagine “The Black Cat?” I couldn’t hear the trailer because my husband is in the background playing music, but I think I saw “The Pendulum” and maybe “Murder on Rue Morgue” (could be wrong with the titles, but people know what I’m talking about). I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle the buried alive bit. Too much for me.

  48. macysezxcom says:

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation however I in finding this matter to be actually one thing that I feel I would never understand. It kind of feels too complex and very huge for me. I am looking ahead for your next post, I will try to get the grasp of it!

  49. tv codes says:

You could definitely see your skills in the paintings you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to say how they believe. Always follow your heart.
