Brad Pitt’s ‘World War Z’ is an over-budget, gun-smuggling disaster

fp_7777739_pittbrad_worldwarz_aar_05_13

Did you know that Brad Pitt is still working on the interminable World War Z? By the time they finish filming, an actual zombie army will have taken over the world. The filming has taken Brad to Malta, England, Scotland and now Budapest in what is one the longest and most involved films Brad’s ever been involved with. They’ve been filming for most the year, it feels like. Is this a miniseries or a feature-length film? Anyway, now that the production has moved to Budapest, producers and crew had to shop all of the armaments from England. Unfortunately for all involved, those “props” were just confiscated in a SWAT raid. No joke.

Brad Pitt isn’t a terrorist — but he’s certainly being treated like one. On Monday, a SWAT team raided a Budapest warehouse holding weapons being used in Pitt’s upcoming zombie movie World War Z.

“The film is already over budget and over schedule,” a source tells Us Weekly. “Brad is furious.”

Police seized 85 fully-functional weapons, most of which were automatic, military-style assault rifles. “We can confirm that weapons were confiscated at an airport,” Hajdu Janos and Zsolt Bodnar, the director and deputy director of Hungary’s Anti-Terrorism Unit, tell Us.

The problem, a source says, is that the guns came with paperwork claiming they were non-functional — but they’re actually in working order.

“This morning a private plane brought guns wrapped in a parcel from a company to an individual [in Budapest],” Janos and Bodnar add. “Guns like these are highly illegal to transport even if they were to used as stage guns, which hopefully they weren’t.”

According to a source, Pitt, 47, isn’t to blame for the prop problem. “The movie company’s employees must have made a mistake bringing the guns in without the Anti-Terrorism Unit’s permission.”

Janos adds: “We are interrogating witnesses now, getting closer to solving the firearms story.”

Pitt’s company, Plan B Entertainment, is producing World War Z. It is scheduled for a December 2012 release.

[From Us Weekly]

Yeah, I was getting ready to pull the old “It’s not really Brad’s fault” card when I was reminded that as producer, he’s partially to blame. He should have encouraged whoever was responsible for the gun supply to make sure everything had proper documentation. The last thing Brad needs is to get the reputation as an international gun smuggler. (Although that might explain a few things.)

Also: I wonder if his cute assistant followed him to Budapest? Angelina needs to shut that down.

  1. Sakyiwaa says:

Well, Titanic and Avatar took longer, so what’s US weakly’s point exactly?

  2. lisa says:

Not sure about your information. But the movie is not over budgeted and is still on schedule. I have been following it from the beginning. They are filming at the exact time they planned. In fact Brad was on the set working on Monday. The production has not been stalled at all because of this. The investigation is focused on the company in London. And while Brad is a Producer, he does rely on others to do their jobs.

This is not the big “story” I’m sure the media will want it to be. At least regarding Brad.

And the Assistant story didn’t work before and it won’t work now..Why should Angelina be upset about a someone doing her job or get the girl fired because the media needs a new “woman” to attached Brad too since the Aniston and Brad/Angie triangle is old news and no one with a brain is buying it.

Some women are not that insecure.

  3. Sakyiwaa says:

…though Brad Pitt as a ‘terrorist’ is some funny sh*t!

  4. Addie says:

Well Brad isn’t the brightest, so no surprise that ilegal guns slliped his notice on a movie he is producing and acting in.

Seriously, one day I would love to read an interview by Angie as to what attraced her to someone like Brad in the first place.

Who exactly is Brad furious at. Authorities or the crew?

  5. Auds says:

Ah…the temptation to say ‘it’s not Brad’s fault’ that he is a himbo. I don’t think he is renowned for his intelligence.
But don’t producers usually hire some doomed underlings or grunts to handle the actual paperwork and mental work involved in such tasks?

@Addie, that’s what I’m waiting for as well.

  6. Dani D says:

Angie needs to shut the assistant down? Why are you trying to make that girl lose her job? We are in a recession & everyone needs to work. Is it the assistants fault that Angie had an affair on the job with a married man and ow thinks everyone else will do the same? Do dirt, u get dirt. Leave the assistant alone.

  7. Ashley says:

As the sole owner of Plan B the buck does stop with him. Looks like he needs to employ people who know what they are doing.

  8. Bite me says:

Geez wonder how many hits this story will get 🙂

  9. teri says:

The assistant thing is silly, let the girl do her job. I’ll wait to hear factual information not from unknown sources.

  10. Eve says:

Still not as bad as what I’ve read about MIB — III (which I’ll watch anyway…I mean, Sharlto Copley and Tommy Lee Jones in the same movie? I’m there in the theater already).

  11. Roma says:

World War Z is a pretty epic book and I’m expecting the same from this movie. So, no pressure Brad.

That being said; I am totally prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

  12. mln76 says:

Uhm Brad is not a ‘himbo’ (LOL at the term though) he’s actually smart enough to have gone to a really good journalism school and to make it in the biz with zero connections and to have worked consistently with visionary filmmakers. If a pretty face alone could give you Brad’s career then why isn’t Richard Greico or Luke Perry on the Oscar buzz list this year. That being said major f-up on not only Brad but the other producers for this.

  13. Dibba says:

Movie looks horrid just from the photos. Not my kind of flick.

  14. Acorn Paste says:

    #11 Roma –

Before I read your comment, I didn’t even know that World War Z is adapted from a novel. I was going to suggest that the reason they were taking so long to wrap up the shoot is because they might be doing a sequel at the same time (like the LOTR trilogy).

  15. jinni says:

I wonder if someone in the production/crew has been using this movie to smuggle guns to all the location this movies been filmed in? It’s the prefect cover; most people will think the guns are really good-looking fakes.

  16. Kit says:

UK reports are that the assistant is engaged and her fiance is also working on this movie as a stunt coordinator or something.
Don’t think Angelina has anything to worry about…she would have shut that down ages ago

  17. i.want.shoes says:

    I still don’t see a cute assistant.

  18. Dibba says:

How do you trust a guy you got involved with while he was married? I could never trust him!

  19. Po says:

@ jinni, thats an interesting point. What I’m wondering is since there has been accidents in the past where people have been shot and killed on movie sets, why isn’t someone being more careful with these guns. If it was just a mistake, its a pretty big one.

  20. Cheyenne says:

Kaiser, you still fixated on that assistant? Give it a rest. Angie can handle her own business.

  21. Sloane Wyatt says:

Attacking the assistant, without proof, is low, Kaiser. Shame.

  22. N.D. says:

This mistake is about formalities really. They prepared one kind of paperwork while Hungary laws actually required another. It’s not neccessarily that easy to get a clear idea how the law is implemented in foreign country, anyone could have made a honest mistake there. They’ll fix it soon, I’m sure, one way or another.

Re Brad being responsible – you can’t do everything yourself unless you’re superman. You need to hire other people and trust them to do their job without doublechecking their every move. Also you have to accept that sometimes they’ll make mistakes because they’re no supermen either.

  23. Praise St. Angie! says:

I really, really hope this movie doesn’t suck.

Zombie movies, if made right, are awesome. scary and fun at the same time.

re: the guns…yeah, total stupidity on whomever made the decision to use “non-functioning” real guns.

there are plenty of toy guns already in existence that have caused police officers to use their weapons, and surely a major hollywood production could afford to have VERY realistic fakes made.

what I’d like to know is how they got the “non-functioning” guns. it’s gotta be pretty hard to lay your hands on serious weaponry, functioning or not, so where did they come from? someone in production is going to have to answer for that.

  24. jinni says:

Crazy conspiracy theory time: What if Brad’s movie was purposely set up because someone is trying to send a message? What the message is, I don’t know.

Anyway, just having a little fun with this story.

  25. carrie says:

1:Brad Pitt yet worked with David Fincher “Mr Overbudget/reshoot/very long filming set of Holywood”(Dragon Tatoo was filmed between october and April with reshoot in august)
2:leave her assistant alone! she only does her job and she’s pretty
3:if Pitt was really stupid,he wouldn’t t be one of most interesting Hollywood producer and one of most paid actors!

  26. Sakyiwaa says:

I think we might really be surprised at what Angie has to say abt being attracted to Brad…

It may not be readily apparent but I genuinely think Brad holds his own…

He may not have had the sense not to marry Aniston, but at least, he had the sense to leave…

  27. spinner says:

Oh my…Brad looks like hell. It looks like he is wearing out.

  28. LOVE ANGELINA says:

The fact that Us Weekly’s is everyone’s source on this makes me laugh. I think sites just want a new Brad Pitt story and ran with this one.

  29. jinni says:

Well Love Angelina there are pictures of the confiscated guns on the internet to back this story up. So, it’s not like there is no proof.

  30. Onyx XV says:

Bless his heart, for a former heartthrob, Brad is not aging well. And he has the lamest taste in film projects. I can’t remember the last movie he was in that I actually saw, let alone liked.

  31. G says:

This is like a total non-story, even if true. Projects in all fields can be over budget and over schedule. That sort of thing is managed everyday.

I agree. Us needs them some Pitt to stir the pot with.

  32. Eve** Men in Black 111. Zombies and Aliens!! This is the best news I’ve heard all day…WOOOOHOOOO!!!!

  33. LOVE ANGELINA says:

LOL Did you read the Daily Mail article Jinni? Their source is also U.S Weekly. Those are more than likely just stock photos of guns actually being confiscated from somewhere. Not the movie set.

(This morning a private plane brought guns wrapped in a parcel from a company to an individual [in Budapest],’ U.S. Weekly reported.

Look I am heavy into journalism and always will be. I have gotten really good at tracing sources, mainly with celebrity entertainment stories. Which is sad but its such an easy formula, who can’t figure it out. Even legitimate websites like MSNBC or CNN use tabloids as their entertainment sources. However tabloid journalism isn’t on par with actual journalism so often people get incorrect information and tend t o believe it just because MSNBC posted a story from a tabloid on their site, you have to look at the source of a story though. US Weekly is as unreliable source as you can get.

  34. G says:

Oh, and just a thought for those who seem to harp on how Pit is aging?

He actually appears to be aging naturally and neither hiding it or grasping back to his pretty boy days. Seems he couldn’t care less about maintaining his past image and is completely invested in moving FORWARD.

  35. ZenB!tch says:

He looks so old… here’s to hoping he is topless for most of the film. Troy is still the only BP film I like. Just don’t ask me what its about.

  36. yep says:

#4 I think it was the fact that he wanted to be a father to her kids. Ted Casablanca says angie is with brad for the kids. I believe that.

  37. Victoria says:

Well Money Ball did well, so there is chance this one might. Brad does pretty well at the box office but he’s had a few flops or sleeper hits. So who knows. But I too, like Lisa have been keeping tabs on this because I loved the book. I think they are on schedule.

I just hope the movie does the book justice.

  38. Cheyenne says:

yep: Ted Casablanca says angie is with brad for the kids. I believe that.
    ==============================================

I wouldn’t believe anything Turd Casablanca says about anyone.

  39. Eve says:

    @ HorsePoorHanna:

    Right?

Tommy Lee Jones’s wrinkly face and Sharlto Copley (have you seen District 9? If you haven’t, you must watch it…like, first priority) in MIB — III. I have to see this.

I’ll watch World War Z, even though I dislike Pitt’s acting. How can I miss it? It’s a movie about zombies!!! I’m so happy they seem to be replacing the emo vampires bonanza on tv and movies!

  40. KsGirl says:

Im looking forward to this movie – the subject matter is just my thing. Someone’s gonna get fired over this fiasco, tho – sounds like the counter terrorism guys are being dicks. I bet Hungary is going nto be a less popular place to film if they make a habit of messing with film crews.

  41. Joanna says:

So the girl should lose her job because she has the nerve to be attractive and do her job? That comment sounds like some of the mean women I’ve worked with. Just because she’s cute doesn’t mean she’s after Brad. If you can’t trust your man, you shouldn’t be with him.

  42. Eve** AAAHH!!District 9…Now that was fun! And,how can anyone pass up zombies!! YAAY!! But…Puss n Boots,I’m chompin’at the bit. I seen the commercial on the tev. last night.Still have a smile on my face today.

  43. pwal says:

Gee… I want my hero, getting chased down by zombies to look as fresh as a peach… eyeroll…

  44. JaneWonderfalls says:

Go see Begginners worth the watch and Ewan McGregor is a cutie patootie!

  45. Eve says:

    @ HorsePoorHanna:

    *blushing*

I actually cried at the ending — when he (Wikus, or better saying, “Prawnkus”) tells Christopher Johnson (the smart alien who kept the ship under his shack) to go so that what he was doing — fighting the army/policemen — wouldn’t be in vain. Also, the scene where he phones his wife was very moving.

God, I love this movie. A video store here was closing its doors I when I was there (to buy some of the rest of the movies available — I totally missed the sales, bummer) I asked the girl if she would give me the huge banner poster of District 9. She told me she would ask the owner (of the video store) so I’d have to wait, but the woman showed up right at that moment and said it was ok.

P.S.: I can’t hang it on the wall right now because Titus Pullo (one of my two cats) isn’t neutered yet so if I do it, he’ll pee on it (it’s a sure thing, trust me).

  46. Eve** There needs to be a sequel.Bring it on!!!

  47. mln76 says:

Ted Casablanca who has said that the Brange were secretly married ever since George C admitted he played a prank on them way back when??? Ted C who has stated that the Brange were breaking up everytime they have sneezed? Ted C who claimed recently that Courtney Cox is one of the few women in Hollywood who is aging naturally???? Now he’s an expert on what is going on inside the Brange household??? SURE HE IS *Rolling eyes and LMAO at how easy it is for a hack to trick the general public into believing his ‘inside information’*

  48. smh says:

Ted Casablanca is the worst. stop believing that site people

  49. Eve says:

    @ HorsePoorHanna:

    YES!!! I’m waiting for it!

District 10, please let that happen!

    @ Cheyenne:

    “Turd Casablanca”…LOL!*

    *saw it only now.

  50. yep says:

i will believe what I want to believe. LOL I believe Angelina is only with brad because of her children. She doesn’t want to be like her dad.

  51. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

    Yep,

When they met, Angie ONLY had Maddox with her own income. All the rest of the kids come by way of Brad either thru Adoption or Biological Sperm Deposit.

So, does that mean he and she are together for the other 5 kids and Maddox is exempt? Sounds silly to me.

What happens if/when they have more? Adoption for sure and of course more sperm deposits. How does that KEEP happening?

Ted C. knows that is NOT why they are STILL together, but it works for him to mess with people’s heads when they let him. Should sound silly to you.

Again, Angie is off to help. Now, its Libya. She seems not worried at all about her man with anyone else, let alone his film’s BS troubles.

BTW, WWZ is exactly on schedule as has been written about for the past few months indicating the dates blocked for filming. US Weekly is grasping, trying to create drama that does not exist like they love to do with the JP’S.

  52. sandy#1 says:

brad is intelligent enough to know, what he wants in life and he has made it in this business, on top, when most actors who started out with him are long gone, he never rode any one’s coat tail to make it, he has a lot of great interest, say it as many time as you need to believe it, brad is a catch and angelina knows it, what is all the hoopla about that he left his ex then?

  53. Sue says:

Honey Brad is not a catch. Maybe for middle age women who sit in front of their computers all day – if you guys want to believe that he is the ulitmate then go ahead. However I personally love both Angie and Jen. Both of them are great women. Brad on the other hand – well I think that for both Jen and Angie he was their biggest mistake.

  54. Addie says:

    I agree with Sue.

Must say, Brad has good taste in (some of) his women,Angie & Jen were both great catches, although the mimicing is creepy.
The big question is who is Brad really? Well that seems to change according to the relationships he is in at the time.

Can never respect someone who has no real mind of his own, no matter how good looking he used to be.

  55. Shawna says:

Yep, you prove how easy it is for frauds like Ted to brainwash people. Of course you *want* to believe it, because the facts and reality don’t suit your agenda. You believe Ted’s more oft debunked than I’ve had hot dinners lies and lap it all up because you WANT to. Because clearly the truth that Brad and Angelina love each other is too unpalatable for you to handle. Quite frankly, I feel sorry for you.

  56. NOPW says:

    @ Addie

Angie & Jen were both great catches

Ooops. Don’t dare put Angie in the same line with Aniston. Aniston is Brad’s bad choice, it’s his lifetime mistake. Aniston is a lucky catcher, but Brad is not that case. Angelina and Brad are equivalent to each other.

  57. Momz says:

From what I gather, his role in Burn After Reading is as true to his own personality and self as it gets. Not the brightest crayon so its been widely said. The fact that he looks at the pictures in Architechural Digest does not make him a visionary, nor even portend modicum intelligence.

I really cannot stand the man for his misdeeds that have been duly rewarded by the press for years, but taking the role in Inglorious Bastards was the very end for me. He is abhorrent in every sense.

  58. Vladimir says:

World War Z is an excellent book. Without any doubt, the best thing ever written on zombies and a sure horror classic. I hope that the film does it justice and it doesn’t really matter how long does it take to make as long as it is done.
