These photos – from the London photo call and premiere of The Ides of March – contain the best and the worst of Evan Rachel Wood, who is fast becoming one of my favorite girls to watch on the red carpet. It’s not that ERW is such an amazing fashion plate, or that she’s even getting it right most of the time – neither of those things are true. I love seeing her on the red carpet because she never fails to be interesting. She’s young (24), she’s still figuring out her style, and she’s all for experimenting. But what’s interesting is that she manages to be a total label whore, yet she looks like no one else on the red carpet.
For the photo call, ERW chose this black-and-white “Alexa Chung by Madewell” dress with black tights and stellar black boots (that I want). The look is very retro, very Mary Quant, very Twiggy. I dislike the look as a whole, and yet… I think she looks great. Even the headband isn’t bugging me, and it would bug me on almost anybody else.
For the premiere, Evan chose to go back to her menswear-inspired thing (which she’s been rocking a lot lately), but she did it in a new way, opting for a beautiful pencil skirt and a very structured, puffy-sleeved “statement” jacket which I HATE. It’s really, really ugly, and yet… she comes really close to pulling it off. How does she do that?
I should also note a few more things – Evan’s makeup is AMAZING. I don’t know if she travels with her makeup artist or if she just knows how to do amazing makeup herself, but I would take lessons from whoever was responsible for this. Also: Evan’s side-eye at George Clooney is one of the best things ever, next to Philip Seymour Hoffman simply being himself.

Are we trying to make Evan Rachel Wood “happen” now? Because she bores me. And sometimes she looks like one of Bruce and Demi’s daughters.

Face = A+
Dress = F
Shoes with dress = F-
That dress is hideous. It looks like a cross between a nun’s habit and Little Orphan Annie.
I love the black dress in the other photos though. Very pretty.
I agree with pp though, ERW has been around a while so if “she” was going to happen she’d already have happened. She will not ever be able to open a film as the lead.

She looks great, but she really has been a lot lately.
Philip Seymour Hoffman.. I would like one of him please.

I love her! I can’t really explain what it is that makes me like her so much, but I do. I think she’s gorgeous

is it just me or does she look almost exactly like a very thin Adele in the photos with the twiggy outfit? At least in the face… I think it’s the neutral make up and that her face looks rounder for some reason

LOVE the top dress even if it is by Alexa Chung. Her hair looks much better like that without all the gel.
I don’t think ERW is “still figuring out” her look. I think she knows it. A bit retro, a bit goth, often androgyne, and almost always black.
I like that she does her own thing and doesn’t try to blindly follow trends and be a “fashion girl”.

No Kate it’s not just you, I immediately thought she looked a lot like Adele as well!

i officially have a crush on philip seymour hoffman. how sweet is it that his fly is not done up all the way. he makes george clooney and his leather jacket look like a ‘trying too hard’ douche.
george looks like one of those old guys trying to be young and hip. fire the stylist. ick.

ERW lately seems the female Ryan Gosling: too tryng. Plaese, Evan, relax, try a bit more ” natural” look and pose.

the thing that is consistently wrong with her is her hair color. it always makes her look dated and weird. its always so brassy and off!

I kind of like both looks, but I think it’s because she just somehow makes it work. Her makeup does look good, she has a very pretty face.
I think she’s only in her early 20s, so it seems a bit early to say she’s peaked professionally.

Love the dress.
Love the boots.
Just not together.
And she has obviously decided to look her best. This is a girl wanting to get the better job offers.
Unlike our girl Lohan. Who is the same age. Looking like death warmed over.
Had Lohan not screwed up her life with the crack shenanigans. This could very well been her working with the Clooney.
Instead she is being bailed out of jail, again.
And Evan is touring Europe with Hoffman and Clooney.

I was all prepared to say how fug she was until I clicked on the link. I love her hair with that slight half bang. Slicked back, she is all jaw.
Her looks is very 60′s in that first photo. I like it. Don’t care for the second.
She should really grow her hair out 3 – 4 inches. She’d look beautiful.

Yikes – I dont like any of the outfits or any of her hair styles in these pictures.

I have to say, I really like both outfits. I LOVE the retro vibe of the first look and I like the second as well, even if I am not crazy about the jacket.
Those shoes! Those red shoes! LOVE THEM.

Personally, I wouldn’t call her makeup fantastic. The great majority of the time, her makeup is incredibly heavy-handed. She cakes on a lot of very pale powder. Plus, she often throws in heavy blush, dramatic lips, and smokey eyes. It ages her significantly. Most times upon seeing her, I’m struck anew by the fact that she’s only 24.
Her makeup does look nice in the first pic, though. It’s light(er), more neutral, and “fresh”. She looks so much younger, prettier, and less contrived, no?

I love her style. She is intersting to watch.

She is always interesting style-wise and both of the get ups today are great. I can’t understand the hating on the jacket. It’s well-designed, fits her splendidly and pulls her totally together. Having it all black in color but with contrasting textures works well here.

I think her make up is really 90s? I like the Twiggy dress but those boots aren’t right with it IMO.

Her face is boring. So is her acting. She’s lame.
She’s not beautiful but has an expression on her face all the time like she’s so great.

She’s very “Adele” in the first picture. I don’t know why, just the vibe I’m getting from her. Love the softer make up on her as well.
