Madonna booed in London, wearing L’Wren Scott: lovely or boring?

wenn3572302

By my guesstimate, Madonna has probably gotten hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of plastic surgery over the past four years or so. And with all of that work, all of that time and expense, and she just looks the same age, if not older. She also looks so much like Hillary Clinton to me. Can’t you see it? There’s some Hillary happening here. Anyway, these are new photos of Madge from last night’s UK premiere of W.E. Madge wore this L’Wren Scott dress, which I actually like a great deal (but I almost always love L’Wren’s dresses). Considering it’s a film about the dark period in the English royal history, I wonder if Madge was even expecting a welcome reception? If she was, she didn’t get it. According to many sources (and a video), Madge got booed on the red carpet – it wasn’t a riotous situation, it was just a group of hecklers who were all “YOU SUCK” and then Madge and her cast got to do the press line:

The 53-year-old singer, who co-wrote and directed W.E., admitted she was nervous as she arrived on the red carpet at the Empire cinema in London’s Leicester Square. The film has already been shown at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, but Madonna revealed she felt under pressure screening it in Britain.

She revealed: “It’s slightly nerve-wracking because it’s about a British king, it’s predominantly filmed in Britain, it’s a British production, most of my actors are English and I know the British can be tough critics. But I hope they like it.”

The film looks at the romance between Wallis Simpson, played by Andrea Riseborough, and Edward VIII, played by James D’Arcy, which led to the monarch’s abdication.

Both Ms Riseborough and Mr D’Arcy attended the BFI London Festival screening along with co-stars Laurence Fox and Richard Coyle. All the cast agreed Madonna paid great attention to detail throughout the filming.

Ms Riseborough, 29, said: “She was extraordinary, because she was very prepared and passionate about the piece and that’s what excited me when I first met her.”

Mr D’Arcy revealed: “As a director Madonna is about as prepared a person I’ve ever worked with. Reams and reams of research she’d done. She gave me so many books and every single page was underlined, and if it wasn’t underlined it was highlighted, and if it wasn’t highlighted there was a post-it note on it.”

[From The Telegraph]

Madge-stans aside, this film is going to be soundly bashed, I believe. Many of the influential critics have already seen it (at various film festivals), and once the movie opens wide, I think people will see a film that is a lot like Madonna – a lot of style and little to no substance. A beautiful mess. A well-dressed turd. So… I’m including the W.E. trailer once again (it’s such a mess!), and some photos of Andrea and James D’Arcy. God, I LOOOOOVE James D’Arcy. He’s so sexy! (PS… Andrea is wearing Christian Dior.)

  1. Linnie says:

“Well-dressed turd.” Bwahhhaaaa. Love that line.

  2. Auds says:

    LMAO! Kaiser
    “A well dressed turd”.
I think that is the best summation of every film role that Madonna has had, as well as the films she has directed.
I’m thinking that the actors in this film are going to need a lot of motivation to work through the negative after-effect of being in this film. It’ll be like treading in dog turd; the smell will linger.

  3. gee says:

    Madonna’s hair looks excellent.

  4. kay says:

She’s just so puffy. Like a giant marshmallow face. She looks so much older than 53 to me.

  5. Addie says:

A person must have a very large ego to go and rewrite history for the sake of a good story line.

Hope future generations don’t look at this movie and think it is based on facts.

  6. Quest says:

Madge and Hillary goes to the same surgeon….lol

  7. S says:

When will she learn that black is not her color? The dress looks awful on her.

  8. Scout says:

I see the Hillary comparison! Her dress looks horrible on her. Her hair – although it may be pretty as hair goes – is aging her big time. It pulls her already longish face down.

  9. spinner says:

I think she looks fine & who’s to say History has not already been rewritten??

  10. capepopsie says:

This is one of the prettiest pictures I´ve seen of her for ages. I think she looks okay. Of course she would have looked MUCH better had she left her face alone and let it age naturally. . . .

  11. mia girl says:

Agree that all the tweaking has just made her look older. She’s 53, but to me she looks like someone who is 60 trying to look 53. Maybe it’s some kind of crazy curse or the devil is back for his side of the bargain… the more she tries to look young, the more it backfires – true hell on earth.

Madonna, just age gracefully, put on a little weight, soften your makeup/mascara and please stop with the “barrette on the side parted hair look”. Little school girls look adorable that way, but on you, it just seems off.

  12. Kit says:

The length of the dress looks wrong on her and she should keep her arms covered. Would love to see the dress in another colour, black is tiresome.
I don’t think she’s getting value for money from her surgeon or from all the time and effort she spends on looking younger.

  13. Green_Eyes says:

Love the dress..BUT NOT on Madge!

Lol “well dressed turd”- called that right Kaiser!

She needs to stop w/ all the surgery….she’s going to become a BIO-HAZaRD one of these days..

  14. Lady Satan says:

I think she actually looks a little better than usual here (although she should have gone up a size in the dress and gone with better shoes).

Seems like she’s put on a little weight – – you can see it in her arms – and it’s softened her look a bit.

Maybe, if she just leaves her face alone from now on, she might actually start to look good on a regular basis.

  15. Jayna says:

She looks fantastic. Haters love to hate. Her face thankfully is back to normal, not piled with way too many massive fillers. Even LaineyGossip who is no fan said at the other premiere they hated to admit it but she looked fantastic in person but didn’t photograph as well as she looked in person.

  16. bros says:

im over her dresses and fishnet tights and ugly black shoes that she always wears. I’d love to see her in something less boring and black and matron-goth. she’s become such a terrible dresser.

  17. Julie says:

She’s so ugly on the inside, it seeps out on the outside. I can barely stand to look at pics of her. This is one of the few I wish would just go away.

  18. Pyewacket says:

Madonna became a parody of herself long ago.

She is a terrible actor and I have no doubt that she cannot direct either.

  19. Mourning the Death of Music says:

I think the dress is lovely and I do like Madonna’s hair.

She can have as much surgery to try and combat aging, but her hands truly give her away.

  20. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

I adore hydrangeas, Lwren should create a hydrangea themed frock.

  21. smith says:

Face and makeup – I actually think she looks good. Not close-up good, but at a safe distance and with the right lighting, she’s decent.

Her hair has the strange effect of being both youthful and aging. This is not easy to pull off. There’s something about the cut and waves that ages her but the length with the barretted side part is too young for her elderly face (god I hope she reads that sentence).

    The dress is lovely.

    So to recap – she’s a wanker.

  22. smh says:

she looks like a sausage in the 1st pic, no waist, huge belly (and we all know it can’t be pms bloat haha…) she has never learned how to dress herself. and for the love of anything good and holy can the fishnet stockings be “over” please?? they look so trashy and fug!

  23. Ari says:

I love period movies so I will see it regardless. It’s Madonna its not like you can expect some Scorsese flick…let’s be serious here.

  24. NM9005 says:

Considering the problems during the shooting, it doesn’t look like complete mess. It’s a beautiful mess indeed. If I’m going to watch (just to keep up with her work) then I would probably be excited the most of seeing Madonna’s fashion sense shine through the film. At least she will give me something to be happy about.

She looks fantastic here, such a petite bod and then that dress! She still got it.

  25. cprincess says:

Jeez _ I was nearly asleep through the trailer-never mind the movie!
Madonna looks older than she is because of the incessant working out and her clothes are always terrible…
She needs to gain 10 or 15lbs and stay away from the gym -shes like a piece of gristle…

  26. Bernice says:

I think she would look much prettier if her lipstick had been pinker and she would soften her eyeliner. She has too much hair (or too many extensions) for all the waviness.

  27. NeoCleo says:

Now compared to Vergara–this dress really looks low rent.

  28. gg says:

Quest, Hillary has definitely not had any surgery – look at the bags under her eyes. My cousin’s a senator and says she is someone you don’t want to see down there at 4am after a long voting sesh. rough.

  29. Loralei says:

I think she looks great. That movie trailer is very similar in style to the one for Angelina Jolie’s new movie.

  30. malachais says:

I agree @capepopsie, she looks GREAT in these photos.

I think Madonna is very talented, sorry I have to disagree with the post. But I agree that she needs to stop with all of the plastic surgery because its a bit ridiculous.

  31. NM9005 says:

    @22:

What huge belly? She works out every day, she’s as healthy as can be. She’s probably a size 4. Have you seen her abs, or those recent semi-nude pictures? Rock hard!

Laughing at a woman in her menopause, so tough and cool. Because you know, you’ll never going to go in your menopause right?

That’s right, she sucks at fashion, that’s why most designers love her for her groundbreaking fashion sense and loved to give her clothes for her tour and events. Gaultier, D&G, McCartney , (Versace), personal friends of her, absolutely loathe her for bringing their pieces to the public eye =).

  32. mln76 says:

Here’s what’s hilarious Madge and Hilary are actually 10th cousins . And the movie that glorifies those two Nazi loving traitors is going to kill what!s left of Madonna’s career and she really deserves the shitstorm coming her way for glossing over just who those two really were.

  33. I have a fondness in my heart for movies like this.I’m a big BBC nerd.

  34. Kimbob says:

LMAO @Mitch Buchanan Rocks…YES! Agreed! L’Wren should create a hydrangea-themed dress, send it to Madonna & ask her to wear it..OMG..YES!

    Co-sign w/@Julie & @Pyewacket..so true.

In her brother’s book about her, Christopher mentions she wears fishnets for a particular reason…something about how they either give her support, or keep her legs warm(?) Can’t remember exactly…regardless, I’m soooo boooorrreed by it all…this includes the yawner movie. I’m glad the Brits gave her HELL!

  35. Nev says:

    .

Madonna looks great!!!!! Can”t wait for the music though…

  36. Lady D says:

Julie I know what you mean. I feel the same way about Naomi Campbell.

  37. smh says:

@nm9005 oh please. it does look like she has a giant tummy in the first picture. i said she looks like, i didn’t think she actually has a belly, because we all know she is too skinny, so she probably ate a large dinner or something. the dress is very unflattering as well.

i’m not making fun of women in their menopause *eyeroll* why would i even do that? and after all 1. she went through her menopause years ago, around age 49, another celebrity said madonna was using menopause cream. 2. to quote a great film which mirrors her life, “there’s nothing wrong with being 50, unless you pretend to be 25!” that’s sunset boulevard for you. nobody would dislike her for being old but ever since this hard candy tour she’s trying to look like a sex idol, but she’s too skinny/saggy/wrinkled for that.

and fashion designers love lindsay lohan too, so you’re hardly making a case for her with that one.

  38. NM9005 says:

    @smh:
Sorry, I just don’t see the “giant” tummy, at all…In the 3th picture it’s a slightly better angle to judge and I still don’t see it then. Everybody has a bit of a tummy but then the “giant” remark is still misplaced to judge her by these pictures.

Since her Hard Candy tour? She’s been a sex symbol since she hit the scene…After all these years she actually toned it down, A LOT. Never saw the “Sex” book? Heard the Erotica cd? The duality of her videos, always toying with sex and religion? She’s pretty boring and serious now, relying on collabs to keep her relevant. I wish her naughty, playful personality from the 90′ would come back!
Yeah, I know, she tries too hard to be young again, quite desperate…

No they don’t. Those fashion designers she works with hardly put their mark in the fashion world. I’m talking REAL designers with name recognition and A-list celeb attraction. LL clearly doesn’t fall in that category. As if they want to be associated with her.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/17/lindsay-lohan-kicked-out-marc-jacobs-fashion-week-after-party_n_967679.html

No matter how many people she fucks to get access, she can never roll with that crowd again. They don’t want her there, they just can’t stop her from showing up.

  39. smh says:

@NM9005 I can’t believe I’m going to correct something about Hohan here… but she did have a line with Ungaro which was pretty surprising because that’s when she started to look even more trashy than before… And I remember the photos of her hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld. Madonna is not the only celeb that fashion designers like to work with, they seem to love basic bitches like Blake Lively and Taylor Momsen too… Personally I think most of them are leeches who would even design for Kate Gosselin if she had any sort of popularity.

  40. ??? says:

She looks gorgeous. I’d lick it.

  41. skuddles says:

Nice to see her wearing something age-appropriate for a change. Nobody wants to see the intimate gristle anymore.

  42. ZenB!tch says:

Dress is fine, love the hair alas they are both connected to her.

  43. NM9005 says:

@smh: Oh never heard about that. I never followed her exactly, going to Google it

More than 2 years ago, it was ridiculed into insanity by the cricits and she quit after one line. So epic fail.

As for Lagerfeld, he is crazy but very talented. I don’t know, the man doesn’t know shit how the real world works. He lives in his own bubble so I’ll forgive him for liking LL.

    http://www.3am.co.uk/Gasp/that-mad-old-codger-karl-lagerfeld-thinks-kate-is-like-lindsay-lohan

    Bless his crazy =).

Madonna’s fashion collabs are considered quite successful, she works hard on her projects (excepts Malawi =S) and she’s loved by designers. I mean, Madonna >>>>>>> LL.

Well, they are not stupid. Whatever is “hot” or “in” at the moment, they will take advantage of it. That’s how it works generally in business. They are shallow. But Madonna is an all-time fav, trust.

  44. BELLA says:

    Dreadful…looks like she lives under a bridge…

  45. Nadia says:

i love the way she looks lately…did you guys notice that her arms are less gristly and veiny…

  46. Mrs Spratt says:

Re: Lagerfeld/Blohan: this was several years ago, but I remember reading about Karl being interested in having LL model for Chanel, print, and invited her to some huge event (I don’t think it was the Met Gala, but it was of that importance…). Any who, she killed the deal because of her TERRIBLE manners; she got up several times to “powder her nose” during the dinner service, didn’t pay enough attention to her escort, yada yada yada….
    He can’t stand her!

  47. M says:

Why are they using the music from ‘Amelie’ film (@1:03) for this film?

  48. Minty says:

    @skuddles #41: “intimate gristle”

LMAO! That’s priceless. I wouldn’t be surprised if Madonna does a photoshoot when she’s 70, spread-eagled in some skimpy leotard. Dismayed, but not surprised.

*goes off in search of eyebleach*

  49. april says:

In these particular photos, she looks amazing.

  50. skuddles says:

Oh Minty, you just put a mental image in my head that’s gonna haunt me forever AHHHHHH!!! Please please please no more Madge vag…

But seriously, thanks for the giggle! 😀

  51. Kara Ann says:

IMO, she looks better here then she has looked in a long time. Maybe, she’ll try to age a little more gracefully.

  52. Minty says:

No problem, skuddles. Thank you for giving me a good chuckle, too! That gristle line you wrote is sure to be a classic. I think looking at pictures of Mariah Carey’s adorable babies will help remove from your mind the beef jerky horror that is Madonna’s body.

  53. Jayna says:

I have seen a lot of pop acts, I mean practically all of them (Xtina, Beyonce, Janet, Gaga, etc.), and Madonna has something on stage that is indescribable. No female has topped her as an overall performer on stage. I was so worried that her horrible filler fiasco last year would end my concert-going experience with her. I was in the first row feet away from her in 2007 right on stage and she was luminous, beautiful, and her body defied imagination at the age of 48. More energy than I could ever have. She hit fifty, getting divorced the stress caused loss of weight, overexercizing and then messed up her face. It broke my heart. Thank God she has laid off so many fillers and back to her normal weight. Madonna is looking good again.

  54. koko269 says:

Wow, money does buy beauty because she looks great here!

I’d still buy her a bucket of hydrangeas though.

  55. Sumodo1 says:

I was just reading somewhere that plastic surgeons have a couple of new techniques for plumping up corpse-y looking hands. If Madge’s arms look less gristly, look for her hands to look plumper, soon.

  56. Bec says:

I know I’m alone on this but I think her face looks great here! And I usually hate plastic surgery. I like the dress too and the hair! I’m kind of surprising myself.

I do agree that she has no substance though.

  57. heathnic says:

Is it me or does D’Arcy look like Ralph Fiennes in these pics? Esp. the last one

  58. sammib says:

To those who are saying she looks older than 53 – have you seen 53 year olds? She so does not look 53! She looks around 43 – 45 and good for it. Leave the poor woman alone. She’s getting older. We all do. Even you 🙂

  59. gym mirrors says:

Hi there, just changed into alert to your blog via Google, and found that it’s really informative. I am gonna watch out for brussels. I will be grateful should you continue this in future. Lots of other folks can be benefited out of your writing. Cheers!
