This news really freaked me out because I’m paranoid about dental issues. Aerosmith lead singer and “American Idol” judge Stephen Tyler knocked out two teeth after suffering a nasty fall in the shower on Tuesday in Paraguay. Tyler claims that he was ill from Montezuma’s revenge and insists that he was neither drunk nor high. The 63-year-old rocker was rushed to the hospital and received stitches in his face; Steven also had two new chompers put in by a dentist. Here’s the “before” photo, which looks pretty bad, from after the fall:
Here’s the really incredible part though — after cancelling merely one concert, Tyler is already back in action and hopped onstage again last night. Unlike myself, who would’ve gladly taken at least a week to recover, Tyler performed on Wednesday night to a record-setting crowd. He talked to Matt Lauer on this morning’s “Today” to reassure his fans that everything’s alright now:
On His Fall: I went in looking like Baryshnikov. and walked out looking like [boxer] Leon Spinks! Just quite frankly I passed out… I fell on my face, I woke up with the water running on me, not knowing where the hell I was.
On Assumptions That He “Fell Off The Wagon”: Being in the program I’m in, it’s something we have to accept. I went public with my problems only to address them straight on — people thinking [I relapsed] is natural and normal. It still bothers me a little, but it’s something I’ll have to deal with the rest of my life.
On Last Night’s Concert: I wore my sunglasses for my first song, took ’em off and the crowd roared. Not only did I break my face but we broke the house record — life is beautiful Matt!

He has such a great attitude, right? Honestly, he should take it easy though. A tour can totally be rescheduled, and his fans would completely understand. Instead, he’s pushing forth like nothing happened. Amazing.

The idea of falling in the tub freaks me out FOR EXACTLY THIS REASON! I’ve seen people out of their mind delirious from being dehydrated, so I suppose that could happen.

Holy Crap! He looks like he was taking a shower in the back of a truck that rolled over on the 405 after which he tried to flag down a semi that couldn’t stop in time.

Jeezus I could’ve done without that pic. I am terrified of knocking my teeth out. I adore Steven Tyler, flaws and all. Always have done. But, WTF…does he wear a wig??? I am crushed! I had no idea.

I’d love to know who is dentist is, usually it takes weeks or even months to replace if the entire tooth came out.
Ok – first thought – why is there such a hair difference – does he wear a wig for his performances?
Wow – that must have been a real nasty fall. He has my sympathy and I am amazed that he was right back at performing.
There is and will always be a warm place in my heart for Steven Tyler. Maybe because “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” always reduces my mother to silent tears and I always find that endearing… 🙂
Glad he’s ok now. It’s pretty much a toss-up. He could’ve been relapsing, but it could’ve gone down just as he described. The pics don’t lie…looks pretty gnarly!
I’m tending to think he had a relapse because #1 he was out of the country, somewhere where he felt “different,” out-of-range, and thought “what the hell..I’m a little lonely..why not get a little liquored-up/drugged up?” It’s certainly happened to me. And #2 the fact that he bounced back SO FAST & did the concert the next evening. The last time Steven had a falling out w/Aerosmith was, (don’t hold me to it..correct me if I’m wrong about the time-line) about a year or so ago. There was rumbling/rumors that Joe Perry & the rest of the band were “fed up to here” w/Steven’s relapsing, & Joe Perry went ahead & announced to a celeb photog that they were looking for a replacement.
It’s just a guess, but because Steven knows he’s “walking the line” w/the band, he probably went ahead w/the concert although he wasn’t 100% to quell any reservations & not give the band any excuses about giving him the boot again. The relationship between the band members is tenuous, at best. It’s been this way for awhile now. This is just my thinking/hypothesis.

Looks like his hair’s back in a ponytail in the toofless photo. The gray streak is in all the photos and he’s got a damn nice head of hair from what I can tell.
He has had problems with his feet for years. He’s had surgery to replace a knuckle on his big toe. One of the reasons he relapsed. As well, a tooth implant in the front can be done right away with a temporary tooth attached.
I would totally tap that. Steven Tyler is totally not my type (not tall enough, too skinny) but there is just something about him that makes my knees weak!
Marjalane — I think he IS wearing socks with sandals! He IS an old guy after all. I am not sure when my parents started to do this, but it sure freaked me out when they crossed. . . that line.
I love Aerosmith and Steven Tyler.. I hope it wasn’t a relapse, no matter what caused it glad damages weren’t worse (pic looks pretty bad). So Rock On Steven w/ your awesome self for being brave enough to continue on..cuz I would need a few days to recoup as well!:)
Agree w/ those of you that have referenced this, I have bathtub fears and fear of knocking my teeth out w/ my falls.. Can handle loosing all the body parts I have and operations.. Piece of cake..my fear the Dentist and any work on my teeth… Lol chills just typing about it!! Lol

I’ve slipped and fell in the tub twice this year. The first time, I was home alone and all I could think about was that I would die and my cats would eat me before someone found me. The second time, I hit my head so hard I couldn’t get up and got a very bad concussion (sp?)

He should of wore those sandals in the shower!.. I am fine with anything he wears but those sandals are so old man -not rocker?lol Get some flip flops at least.. Thanks @Marjalane for recognizing this issue.

Steven rocks!!! Don’t think he is lying, he has admitted he has a problem, he has admitted about relapsing, why lie now? I have been a fan for years….. Yep, he even got me to watch Amerian Idol! lol!
God, Im so glad he’s ok. It’s extremely admirable that he just pushed forward like that after taking a header. And who knows how long he was unconscious in the shower?!? I definitely respect the dude.
