Jessica Simpson confirms pregnancy: “It’s true! I am going to be a mummy!”

js1

Yesterday afternoon, Jessica Simpson tweeted the above photo with the message, “It’s true, I am going to be a mummy.” FINALLY, a confirmation of something that we’ve known for several months now: Jessica Simpson dressed up as a mummy for Halloween. Also, she’s preggo.

What else is there to say? She’s 31 years old, engaged to Eric Johnson, her unemployed Yalie, and this will be the first child for both of them. Sources claim Jessica is about six months along, which seems about right – meaning she would be due end of January, early February.

So… instead of announcing her pregnancy on a big celebrity weekly, she went a more subdued route, via Twitter and her website. She also shows us that she has a sense of humor about herself – most Hollywood women wouldn’t choose a costumed Halloween photo for their big baby announcement. All in all, I give Jessica extra points for how she handled herself the past few months, especially considering the rather stark difference between Jessica’s low-key behavior and non-bumpwhoring versus Beyonce, who is allegedly due around the same time as Jessica.

    Cute! Congrats!

  2. brin says:

Well if no tabs were going to fork over the money she wanted for the announcement, that left her no choice.
But good for her for dressing up and for taking the spotlight away from Kim K for 2 seconds.

  3. searching4grace says:

Awww!! That’s really cute. Good for her.

  4. len says:

I have to say: I like her. She always has a sense of humour and she doesn’t sell herself out.

  5. mary simon says:

couldn’t find anyone who cared enough to pay for the big announcement so she went the circus clown route. classy.

  6. gee says:

    Aww so cute!

  7. Launicaangelina says:

I thought it was a cute way to announce it.

  8. ShanKat says:

Love love love it. Extra credit for comedy.

  9. Quest says:

    Nice, congrats.

  10. tripmom says:

I think this is an adorable way to announce it. Good for her.

No doubt that if she could have gotten some cash for the announcement she would have done it differently, but a very cute backup plan, nonetheless.

  11. Elvynn says:

Why everyone believe she would have sell this news ? Maybe she doesn’t.
By the way, i’m happy for her. Congratulations.

  12. bigchili says:

Cute! I’m so happy for Jess. I think she’ll be a great mom & the baby will be very loved. Congrats to her!

  13. WillyNilly says:

I thought acrylic nails are a no-no when pregnant? (pic #2) Although with the vitamins, I suppose those could be real.

  14. blc says:

She couldn’t sell the pregnancy announcement to a magazine, and she has gotten so big that it’s no longer a secret. She had to do this. I don’t think it’s classy, I think it’s what she had to do when no one would pay up for it. Also, why the hell would she choose to announce it on the same day as KK’s divorce? She got barely any attention at all!

  15. glyrics says:

A mummy wrapped with eyelet lace no doubt!

  16. cherryberry says:

I just have to say I LOVE everything about this picture. Her hair, her makeup and her costume are all great! And I think this is a very cute way of announcing what we already knew. Congrats!

  17. Brittany says:

Maybe, she WANTED to announce on Halloween instead of doing a magazine spread. It was never confirmed by CREDIBLE sources that she wanted to do a magazine spread, tabloids aren’t credible by the way. Plus, many women wait awhile before even announcing to their own family.

  18. Anne de Vries says:

cute and funny. She always seems a bit dozy but at the same time kind of sweet

  19. t says:

I am so pleased no magazines gave in to her demands for money for this and that she was upstaged by Kim Kardashian’s divorce announcement. Wonder if a Kardashian will upstage the birth too.

  20. Nanea says:

    One scary mummy! 😉

    Nice way to announce it.

All the best to all concerned.

  21. Nina says:

Digging the chic mummy costume! I’ve always had a soft spot for Jessica.

End of January/early February means she’ll be having a little Aquarian. We’re the best! 😉

  22. JQ says:

This makes me so happy! Well, all the speculation made me happy for her too because I just KNEW it. I’d never been a fan of hers before…I never hated her either, but now I am adoring her!

  23. BerMan says:

Love the pic Jessica. Congratulations ! Certainly you’re going to be a fun, loving and caring “Mummy” ! Great health and all the best.

  24. t says:

Actually, I’m a little surprised Ol’ Farty didn’t announce this by perching herself back on a public toilet http://tinyurl.com/3jyevz9

and farting it out as a secret message to her fans that could only be decoded with the Farty Decoder Ring they were able to purchase at her last appearance at a Belk’s department store.

  25. Sydney says:

I agree with Brittany. I’ve always had a soft spot for Jessica and I kind of like the fact that she’s kept the announcement relatively low key. Good for her.

  26. fddfhfdhf says:

    Why are people so stupid?

You all beleive anything you read! Just because a tabloid said she wanted to sell the announcement does not mean it was true.

Then you all need an announcement that she was pregnant as if it was not obvious enough. She was under no obligation to announce at all and most women wait until their 2nd trimester.

  27. whome says:

@mary simon, bitter much! jeezzzze jess annouced her pregnancy in a fun way, i wish nothing but the best for her, and im so glad that she can get to eat now with out every one making it a federal case!…

  28. Sandra says:

    Bravo Jessica!

  29. prissa says:

I absolutely love the way she did it – on her own terms, with class & a touch of comedy. Who cares if she didn’t sell the announcement to a mag (or couldn’t get one to buy the info)? I’m sick of all that anyways. A lot of women have babies, I don’t need to see every celebs baby bump plastered on a magazine cover – highly overrated (IMO).

Also, she looks fabulous. Pregnancy agrees with her and I think she looks gorgeous with the weight. I know she is going to get much bigger and I’m happy she can stuff her face in peace. She seemed the type to want to eat anyway and now she can. YAY! 🙂

  30. bagladey says:

That’s an awesome, cute, witty reveal. Congratulations to Jessica.

  31. Abby says:

I think the way she announced it was cute. I like that I found out from HER tweets, not a tabloid. Makes following the occasional celeb on Twitter worthwhile. 🙂

  32. flutters says:

I’m on the record as thinking Jessica Simpson’s an embarrassment to womankind (far from the only one among celebrities but still) and from what I’ve heard she reeked entitlement and unprofessionalism while trying to make it in country music. However, congratulations to her and her fiance and this announcement is a good save after Papa’s failure to find a magazine willing to fork out the cash for the announcement.

  33. Sasha says:

People need to get real: There is *no way* the tabloids pay for cr@p about Kim Kardashian & wouldn’t pay for Jessica’s announcement. Jessica chose not to sell the story.

  34. April says:

    Dear t:

Whatever your problem is, let it go. Don’t be so negative. Nobody is listening to your view point.

  35. Phoenix says:

Yes. Jessica is so cute. Beyonce needs to take some tips.

  36. bored says:

    Good for her!

  37. SamiHami says:

Cute! I believe that she is rolling in $$$ and really doesn’t need money from the tabloids. People can criticize her all they want, but she is handling herself well regarding her pregnancy. Here’s hoping she has a healthy, happy baby.

  38. laylajane says:

She looks great!!!awww a MOMMY at last:-)

  39. Agnes says:

Super cute! Good for them. And good for her for finding herself a chill dude who seems to be totally into her, and looks like he’d be into being a househusband. She makes so much money – who cares if he works or whatever, as long as they’re happy with the situation. 🙂

  40. Wilma Flintstone says:

That girl always looks like she enjoys life.

  41. Kasey says:

Good gugga MUGGA! Jessica can’t win for NOTHING! Just as she finally reveals her “news” Kim K decides to hog up the spotlight and announce that she’s filing for divorce! In any event, I’m proud of Jess for playing it out like this. She obviously planned her announcement to some extent but I like that she didn’t sell it out for money (whatever the reason). Now WHERE is Eric?!

  42. Christine says:

She looks actually really good here. I like the sparkly mummy fabric.

  43. Devon says:

I think it’s a great way to announce it! I always thought it’d be a fun thing to tie in a holiday into announcing a pregnancy. I totally plan on doing that when I get pregnant.

    Congratulations to Jessica!

  44. the other mel says:

She definitely could have gotten cash for that story from almost any gossip publication and I applaud her for not only keeping it quiet for such a long time, but announcing it such a charming, non profit-seeking way, which is really saying something these days. Way to go, Jess!

  45. She looks gorgeous!! Congratulations

  46. the original bellaluna says:

    Nicely done, Jess. Congrats!

  47. fwiw says:

Yeah, I think she had to go this route since a magazine didn’t offer her enough $$$$ for her story. The Simpsons love being on magazine covers! I think she’s nice enough (although immature and not very smart) but I don’t like the mummy costume for a baby announcement. Also, it would have made a bigger impact if she hadn’t exposed her big tummy for all the world to see in the last week or so, but I guess she had to do that since Tony Romo announced his wife is expecting and she didn’t want to feel like a copy cat. Celebrities are so obvious sometimes.

Congrats to her and her baby daddy!

  48. Anon73 says:

again props to Jess — and a THANK YOU — to ‘dash’ Kardashian divorce off the front lines !!

  49. really says:

LOVE the way she has handled her pregnancy! She gets MAJOR AWESOME POINTS! Many Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Rita says:

Beyonce, take note. It doesn’t fold up like a hide-a-bed when she sits down.

  51. Miss Thang says:

I think she looks cute and I want her to get a reality show out of it ’cause I think she’ll be a HILARIOUS mom. Can you see her the first time she gets a shower at the changing table!? So funny.

Also, so weird that Beyonce, Jessica, and I are all due around the same time!

  52. Turtle Dove says:

Adorable way to announce. She seems like she’ll be a great momma.

I’m still thinking they wanted to wait to announce for other reason (not money) and now that Jess is safely 6 months along they can announce confidently.

The woman doesn’t need the cover story cash. Her clothing line is a billion dollar power house and she take home millions from lending her name to it. This gal doesn’t need chump change.

  53. Memphis says:

I think it was a cute way to announce it. I like Jessica. I think she seems like a good hearted person.

It was never confirmed by anyone other than the tabloid rumor mill that SHE wanted a big pay day for the announcement. Maybe Papa Joe did, but I really think Jess is just happy to be pregnant and could care less what Papa Joe wants at this point…I mean, it’s not like she’s in desperate need of the cover story cash.

  54. Aqua says:

Jessica has been the brunt of many jokes over the years concerning her career, comments and choice of men.I wish nothing but the best for her and hope that everything she want in life will finally come true.

  55. flutters says:

The woman doesn’t need the cover story cash. Her clothing line is a billion dollar power house and she take home millions from lending her name to it. This gal doesn’t need chump change.

While I believe Jessica’s net worth has been grossly exaggerated by puff pieces, I agree she doesn’t need the money. The money aspect was more about the Jessica Simpson media brand and Papa Joe overvaluing it as per usual. If you consider yourself a big star, you’re not going to accept anything less than a certain fee for an exclusive because you believe that will compromise your brand.

I don’t think Papa Joe got his asking price because Jessica Simpson just doesn’t sell covers like she used to. And yes, Kim K apparently does. I don’t get that either but it is what it is. Papa Joe was already hard at work after this whispering to TMZ about the site traffic she got after the announcement. Everything personal has to be converted to enhance the business side.

There’s a reason people believe the tabloid exclusive negotiation story. The reason is the Simpson family history with the paparazzi and tabloid magazine covers. There was the agreement they reached with OK mag several years ago and so on and so forth. It’s not like people are dogging on Jessica for no reason and to be honest, she has been instrumental in creating the no-win situation her apologists believe she’s in now.

I’m going to hold off congratulating Jessica for how wonderfully she’s handling all this until I see whether she goes on parade for the paparazzi and tabloids after the child is born and tries to use it as an opportunity to be a media star again.

But, regardless I wish her a happy and healthy pregnancy and beautiful motherhood.

    @ #13 Willy Nilly:

I’d be fascinated to find out why acrylic nails are a “no no” while pregnant!

Goes right along with hair dying etc – no medical reason why not!

Who are these crazy OB’s that put out these myths?

  57. ! says:

That’s a really cute way to announce it, how refreshing.

  58. serena says:

    And above all, good costume!

  59. Emma says:

Yay! Adorable. I love how confident she is about her body now. Awesome.

  60. JaneWonderfalls says:

@Len I agree, people for some reason always downed JS but I always liked her, I know people thinks she’s dumb but I just thought she didn’t take herself to seriously. This is the correct way to handle a high profile pregnancy. It shows she more about her personal life and making this a special event in her life than a publicity stunt like….someone else.

  61. katie says:

love the lace and ribbon mummy costume!points for originality ms. chicken of the sea 🙂 i think she’ll be an amazing silly mommy, i wish her well.

  62. Mourning the Death of Music says:

Whether or not it was intended, Jessica completely stole Beyonce’s thunder on many levels. 🙂

  63. kibbles says:

Jessica is smarter than the public give her credit for. She was a mediocre singer and she used her saavy to become a reality tv star and $1 billion fashion mogul. She also handled her pregnancy very well and in a humorous way – much better than Beyonce who is only good at acting like a diva 24/7. Congrats to Jessica.

  64. kellyduval says:

Ah! This is awesome! I love the way she came out to the public with it, so clever! I’ve always loved Jessica so I am so happy she’s finally going to have a baby!

Jessica Simpson is a hypocrite. She was raised Baptist and her father was a Baptist youth director who marketed and promoted his daughter. She flaunts her body wearing barely anything in her bikini swimsuits, short pants, low cut blouses wearing no bra and breast hanging out. Her father or Jessica is not exemplifying Christianity. She lives with men and now is pregnant out of wedlock. She is not a good moral role model, lives in sin and conceived a child in sin but yet her and her parents are proud. She profits from her clothing line from the ideas of other designers and manufacturers. Her clothes line and shoe line looks just like other designers she copied from just with Jessica’s name.
