Last night, there was a big gala honoring Clint Eastwood at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art – it was called the LACMA Art + Film Gala, and Gucci was the sponsor. Most of the girls in attendance wore Gucci, but not Reese Witherspoon, one of the biggest “names” in attendance. Reese wore this figure-hugging Cushnie et Ochs dress, which I do like. It’s a very pretty LBD, and it looks great on Reese’s body. I don’t know, though – it’s a little va-va-voom for Reese, though. I like that as she’s gotten older, her red carpet fashion seems to have simplified a great deal, and she definitely favors cleaner lines and more modern silhouettes, but it feels like she’s trying and failing to be seen as sexier too, right? She’s not Reese, The Girl Next Door anymore. Now she’s trying to be Reese, the Bombshell With Sex Appeal. Also, I don’t care for the gigantic hair bun.
Also at the event: Kate Bosworth, with her “life partner”-slash-boyfriend of a few months, Michael Polish. The Bos wore this pale yellow Erdem that… looks really good on her. The Bos really is a Fashion Girl, you know. She knows a lot about fashion, and she knows how to get dressed for a red carpet. Most of the time. Honestly, looking through the photos from the event, I thought The Bos was one of the best-dressed ladies there. This Erdem softens her, and I swear she’s put on a pound or two.

The top of Rees’s dress seems forced. Like it was designed from the bottom up and they gave up when it came to the bra line. Not bad though.
Kate’s is clean and safe. Looks nice.

I have to give it to Reese. As much as I wanted to like Bosworth’s look (even if I dislike her) because of it’s vintage feel and perfect styling, it does not look good with her skin and artificial lighting.

I love the dress Reese is wearing. The hair is wrong for her face and chin. The dress is edgy. And I don’t see Reese really working it. In that second picture you can see she is trying for the “attitude” to match the dress. When you own what you are wearing.. you don’t have to pose that hard.
Kate’s dress is lovely.. so billowy. I love that soft yellow, and her hair is perfect for it. The only thing I would have changed were the shoes. I don’t think they give the dress a punch. too simple.. Kate’s dress actually looks better when she is posing with the guy. The pics of her alone well she is not standing correctly.. too awkward.
but overall I pick Kate.

Reese Witherspoon was never sexy, and she’s not succeeding at trying to be now either. The hair bun looks ridiculous. Looks fake, too (as she used a hair piece).
Kate Bostworth, as vapid and useless as she may be (for some people), is a pretty girl. Too bad she’s been scary skinny for so long — right now I think she’s looking better because she might have put a couple of pounds. And she looks great here.

I don’t like Reese’s dress… The top part looks like she’s trying too hard to be sexy, and it makes her look fat even though she’s not. The red nails and toes… Again it looks like she’s trying too hard to be sexy. As for her hairstyle, it doesn’t suit her face. You have to be careful with a chin like that.
I love Kate’s hair and makeup. The dress… not so much. The cut is very pretty, I just don’t get the yellow colour, it looks weird. If it had been another colour I would have found it gorgeous. And her shoes… They look slightly too big and I don’t like shoes with pointy ends like that.
As it stands, to me Kate was better dressed by far, but still not perfect.

I think Kate’s gained a little bit, while you can see her clavicles, you can’t really see her chest bones anymore.
I like the dress, but the buttons and the two darker yellow stripes are odd. Not fond of the overly pink lipstick.
The bottom pic of KB isn’t good, she’s standing awkwardly and it shows how skinny her legs are. But still preferable to Reece’s, her outfit is just off.

I prefer Kate’s dress over Reese’s but I like Reese’s styling more than Kate’s. Also Kate looks very vaxy and plastic in the face and she does the same pose, she always does – that’s way more scary and unattractive than Reese’s chin IMO.

Bosworth looks better but the color of the dress is not great on her- although the shade of lipsticks she chose goes really well with the color of the dress. Absolutely hate the satin-cream colored shoes and matchy clutch.

I think Bosworth overdid the Grace Kelly. The buttons on the bodice make it look cheap, I think, or vintage? I generally love vintage, but the buttons, and yes — as someone already said — the pointy shoes, not so much. And she’s a bit too pointy too.

Reese’s dress is nice but it seems like the sort of thing a friend talked her into rather than something she would have chosen on her own. This 50′s look on Kate is more aging than retro. I think the dyed to match shoes make it look like a prom or bridesmaid dress. Something is always going on with Bosworth’s feet – fallen arches or the wrong size (?) – unless she trying to arch her foot on purpose.

I agree – I think it looks like RW is trying to look sexy and it looks uncomfortable. Something about the way that dress fits her bugs me…..the bust looks flattened and the “skirt” is puffy in a weird spot.
KB looks great – that dress has an edgy vintage vibe – great color on her. Like the accessories. Not everyone could wear that shoulder/neckline, but it’s great on her.
