Kirsten Dunst in printed Dolce & Gabbana: beautiful or busted?

Here are photos of Kirsten Dunst at two different event for the AFI Fest over the weekend. The photos of Kiki where she’s wearing the orange-red printed dress are from last night’s AFI premiere of Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia. Alas, no Alex Skarsgard at the premiere. It seems like Kiki is promoting this film on her own, for whatever reason. It’s not like the film is hated or anything – in fact, Kiki’s performance has been widely praised, and she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival too. Anyway, the photos of Kiki in black leather are from the “Young Hollywood” roundtable discussion at the AFI Fest.

The printed orange-red dress is Dolce & Gabbana, the black leather one is Derek Lam. Recently, I’ve been praising Kiki more and more because she seems to be putting more effort into looking polished and adult on red carpets. Her style can still get kind of funky and “precious,” but I think Kiki is off of the harder stuff and she’s trying to get her career back on track. Did I mention I recently watched that film that she did with Ryan Gosling, All Good Things? The movie was weird, but Kiki was really, really good in it. I forget sometimes that she’s a more than capable actress.

Anyway, this is a fashion post. Which dress do you like more, or is this a “neither” situation. I think the black leather Lam dress is too much for a soft, dimply blonde. Even with the poofy skirt. But I really, really like the D&G on her – very pretty.

the Derek lam dress is ill fitting on her long torso, but good for her to take sartorial risks. the D&G dress fits her like a glove — beautiful dress, lovely makeup and presentation. I’m glad Kiki seems to be doing well!

  2. Deven says:

    Neither.

  3. VV says:

I just caught that movie mentioned with Ryan Gosling. It was good but weird! I hadn’t even heard of it either until I just happened to flip through the channels and see it.

That leather dress is horrendous! Look at her chest…it’s horrifying. I don’t understand why she thought that looked good.

The Tomato dress is slightly better but I don’t think the color and pattern is quite right for her.

  4. merski says:

    They’re both fug.

  5. Jackie says:

ick. neither. but really like her as an actress.

  6. Lalala says:

The Lam is giving her mono boob and the shoes are hiddy. Love the D&G on her, pretty but with a bit of edge.

  7. Blankverse says:

Did she have a fight with her stylist who is now passive aggressively dressing her so badly? Pretty girl but fugly outfits.

  8. Judy says:

She has a great body, but I don’t find her pretty…that red dress looks like something out of the 80’s.

  9. Pyewacket says:

The D&G is rather inappropriate for this time of year. It is a summer dress, with the tomato print, not a fall dress.

  10. kiki says:

Ew, neither. Why must she go to these extremes — hard leather or soft flowers (uh, are those tomatoes?!) There is a middle ground girl!

And she looks rough in the face too. I can’t forget some pics from a few months ago of her sobbing crying at an airport. What was up with that? Hope she’s feeling better now.

  11. Stacy Dresden says:

The cut of the D&G dress is good on her. The pattern is summery and while I love the orange-red color, it reminds me too much of the cheap season-themed fabrics sold at Michael’s craft store. The leather Derek Lim is just not flattering.

  12. Mare says:

I just saw Melancholia few days ago, it’s great and she’s wonderful in it. She has a leading role so that’s why she’s promoting it, Alex Skarsgard has much smaller role.

  13. buzznstuff says:

Love Kiki! I think the length of this dress makes it work. She looks lovely. Oh, by the way Kaiser, I think Alex Skarsgard has been sequestered on the set of “The East,” his new movie with Ellen Page. He’s been in ninja-mode for far too long. This is not acceptable! Just because he’s busy working doesn’t mean we can’t have a random fan pic or twenty, right?

  14. Kelly says:

Kirsten’s makeup looks beautiful here. I like the print dress. She’s actually showing some cleavage. Melancholia also received 7 or 8 nominations for the European Film Awards this weekend.

  15. Beatrix says:

the floral one’s color is extremely flattering for her, but I think it should have been more fitted on her svelte body. The leather pleather thing makes her boobs look strange.

  16. Cheyenne says:

The D&G print looks good on her. It’s that leather thing that’s busted.

  17. cr says:

Not fond of either dress, though I’d like the D&G dress in a solid.
Alex is in Shreveport, filming The East, so probably can’t find time in his schedule to do any more Melancholia promotion.

  18. Jacqu says:

Both, though not fond of the hair in the Derek Lam outfit.

  19. Wildone says:

Neither one the leather one is a bad fit nor the other look like its spring time and not fall.

  20. Fabianne says:

I give her points for trying something different with the leather dress but I didn’t really like it. After loving both of her looks on GMA and Jimmy Fallon the day before, this Derek Lam was such a letdown.
As for the D&G dress, it looks amazing on her. It’s so bold and vibrant and va va voom! And her hair is sleek and glossy and wavy. Absolutely loved this look!
And she wasn’t alone last night at the screening. Udo Kier was with her. They all have been promoting the movie just not together.

  21. sosuzy says:

I hate prints but the Dolce & Gabbana’s cutlooks much more flattering on her body

  22. hebrokemyheart says:

why do you guys hate on this girl? shes honestly so dynamic and brillant.who cares about how she dresses..she’s an ACTRESS. it’s quite funny how you guys criticize famewhores yet all you do is judge these women on the basis of their appearances-not their work. crazy/beautiful? bring it on? marie antionette? im SO sick of these boring yet highly appraised actresses just because they appear so clean and perfect. i mean, emma watson-what the hell has she done besides harry potter-and people look at her like shes all deep and cutting edge.they don’t come like kiki dunst anymore-i miss her relevancy

  23. L says:

I love the top part of the bodice on that orange dress on her. It’s well constructed and fits her well.

The drop waist isn’t her best look though.

  24. El Kiddo says:

God, i have to agree, she looks positively gorgeous in the D&G. Love her!

  25. Rudolf says:

It’s from D&G next summer collection. It’s beautiful and flattering but it would be perfect in the right season, not now.
I hate to say this, but there is no reason actors should run after the latest runways. They should dress what looks good on them as individuals, no matter what designers say is “in”, show more personality (provided they have some). People would pay much more attention on them as women instead of talking about any detail of their outfits.

  26. Shelly says:

I don’t like the black dress on her at all, but I do like the floral one. I love Kirsten Dunst.

  27. Dawn says:

Oh, I like her because she is so talented. I hate the black leather dress but I kind of like the orange one the more I look at it. It looks like a throw back from the 1940’s.

  28. serena says:

The leather one makes her seems kind of weird and her boobs looks flat and saggy in it.
ON the other hand I loved her look with the first dress, even if the print it’s a bit ..well.. not usual.

  29. Jules says:

    Both looks are busted.

  30. Kittypants says:

Not keen on either outfit. The make-up she’s wearing with the red dress is very pretty though. Saw her in Melancholia recently, thought she was excellent.

  31. SCREEEE says:

Great actress – hope she continues to get good roles. I kind of like the print one, oddly.

  32. kieslwoski says:

I love the D&G dress and I have to say Kiki is great in “Melancholia” I highly reccomend the movie. I hope she gets some Award Season love, she really deserves it.

  33. ruby says:

The orange dress is nicely cut and I like that she went with the funky print.

Th black leather dress is horrible though.

  34. Kara Ann says:

Not a fan of either dress, however, I am a fan of Kiki’s. I just expect bad clothing and good performances!

  35. Madison says:

Both dresses are awful. The orange flower dress is bad enough looks like something from the 70s that my mother would have worn, the poofy leather skirt is what makes the black leather dress awful, black leather dresses always look better in a fitted style.

  36. Amy says:

What that black Derek Lam dress is doing to her boobs should be a punishable by law.
