Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen named Vogue’s “best dressed sisters” of 2011

Vogue’s annual “Best Dressed of the year” list is already out, and they took special interest in 2011’s best-dressed sister acts. You’d think that with the way everyone is falling all over themselves for the Middleton sisters, that those girls would have gotten top honors. You would be mistaken. First of all, Pippa and Kate would NEVER pose for a supplemental issue of Vogue US. Well, Pippa would love to, I’m sure, and Kate might even want to as well, but she’s not going to right now. Anyway, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, they of the oversized boho looks and the $500 white button-down blouses took the cover.

You can see the list of “best dressed sisters” here at Vogue. Some of the ladies definitely deserve to be on the list, although I wince every time Elle Fanning is mentioned in a major fashion context. She’s 13 years old, and she’s being put out there like she’s some major fashionista. That bugs me.

The list also includes Beyonce and Solange Knowles (ha) and the Middletons of course. Pippa and Kate are given credit for popularizing the mid-thigh skirt or dress. Mark Holgate, Vogue Fashion News Director and Editor of the special issue, told Reuters: “It’s short enough to be impossible for an older-generation royal to wear, long enough to be decent when sitting or bending down to talk to a child.”

About the Olsens, Holgate said, “Are there any more chic, stylish, cool, and original sisters than Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen? They are incredibly stylish…They get it right a lot of the time and then sometimes they don’t get it right. That’s actually great because it shows that it’s their hands reaching into their wardrobes. They don’t have someone telling them, ‘This is cool, this is hot, this is what you should be wearing.’ It comes from within them. It’s instinctual. Look at what they’ve done with (their fashion labels) The Row and Elizabeth and James. They are legitimate fashion forces.” MEH. Beautiful pics, though.

    PUH-LEEZE!

Best dressed midget hobos, is more like it.

Both of them and Rachel Zoe perpetually look like they are playing dress up from mommy’s closet.

Vogue jumped the shark years ago, and this is further proof of that.

    Honestly?

I love these little anorexic women. There’s something just so retro-90’s about their disinterest in food. And that comforts me.

Plus, they are smart business women and that is very cool. My daughter (age 6) just brought home one of their videos from the school library and I am very happy they have moved on from making crappy, boy crazy drech. I tried to explain to my daughter that although they act very dumb in the videos, they are extremely sharp.

But what is up with their mouths here? Are they plumping?

    WHAT??????

  4. Kasey says:

Her? Her? REALLY?! I feel like they’re always dressed like hippie, eccentric grandmas/bag ladies. I will admit though that I acknowledge and appreciate that these girls are not scandalous-no showing their private areas/underwear/too much skin, no naked pics leaked, no baby daddy drama, no trail of exes and 2 1/2 month long marriages, no sex tapes, no dating all the disease-carriers in Hollywood. Just simply doing what they do (very successfully I might add) and wearing what they want to wear/feel comfortable in. Truthfully, eating disorder battled, they could be good role models. I highly respect people who don’t feel the need to be dirty/obscene/oversexualized (particularly if that seems to be the current trend) and for this they will always get a pass from me. Perhaps the judges for this have tastes and standards closer to my own….either that or they were blindfolded?

  5. brin says:

    Don’t they mean 1911?

  6. GoodCapon says:

The Middletons are certainly the worst of that lot.

  7. Emma says:

Um seriously? This cannot be real.

On top of their wardrobe picks, they just have the strangest faces. Atleast it’s not the Kdash sisters lol!

  8. Heatheradair says:

    See, I love their style.

It’s UNUSUAL, sure. It’s not exactly wearable for the average chick getting dressed for work, but, THANK GOD, it’s also not standard-issue bandage dresses and platform Loub’s, extensions and bolt-ons — they DEFINITELY have their own style, it’s RECOGNIZABLE (as in, you know when you’re seeing an Olsen in a picture, rather than a Julianne Hough or something where I always have to be told who I’m looking at), and THAT is what makes them “iconic.”

And fact is, their line actually SELLS. Quite well. They’re not Macy’s-tacky like J-Simp (tho, bless her, I love her stuff, too), they’re business women….

What can I say — I dig them.

  9. kwanitaka says:

The photoshop on these 2 had some work to do.

Their photos have to hide part of their faces. Popeyes and too many bad nose jobs. Poor girls!

How much did they pay VOGUE for this?

  10. Joanna says:

Is this a joke? They are not best-dressed by any stretch of the imagination.

  11. Kaboom says:

What’s with the pre-makeup hair explosion?

  12. Lee says:

Question: I know these two made several movies as teenagers. But what do they do now? I feel like I never see them in any movies or on TV. Are they still actresses, or are they now mainly famous for their clothes?

  13. ZigZagZoey says:

I am SO sick of these scary trolls being called fashionable. If that’s fashion, then I’m happy being UNfashionable.

  14. truthful says:

maybe I’ve been under a rock but I have never seen them dressed nice.

its always oversized and mishapen outfits to me.

I’m sure they are nice ladies but they look horrid to me, all the time..

and the hair looks dry, like its going to fall off their heads.

    maybe I missed it.

  15. Alix says:

They always do that lip-pursey thing.

  16. Madisyn says:

What, no Blohan and Ali Lohan?

  17. Deb says:

I stopped paying attention to Vogue ages ago. That magazine is so pretentious and up its own ass, it’s not even funny. I am sure their definition of “fashionable” involves who can wear the most “of-the-moment” indie designers before anyone else, regardless of how the garments actually look.

  18. Str8Shooter says:

Best-dressed what exactly?? They look like anorexic little old ladies..and the one with the bulging eyes scares the crap out of me every time I see her face…

    Yuck.

  19. Kara Ann says:

Well, this proves one thing…these two are rich and powerful because no way in hell they would get the “best-dressed” anything without $$$ and connections. So, I guess, you go girls!

  20. Kimberly says:

honestly it’s not that big of a win.Who were they up against?

the kardashians and their tacky ass kelly bundy dresses and pretend style?

the hilton sisters? Ya I laughed too

the Deschanel sisters? They’re cute but not red carpet people, why I like them.

  21. bagladey says:

    Vogue is full of isht.

  22. Annie_Grey says:

Mary Kate needs to lay off the bleach.

  23. Jover says:

When will Anne wintour leave I swear I don’t think she has any interest in fashion just sucking up to the celeb of the moment – really Beyonce and Solange – how long will it be before we see Bouncy on Vogue?

  24. Kim says:

Wow the staff of Vogue must be smoking crack. Their publicicts bought them this because they are the WORST dressers. They think they are fashionable but having the money to buy expensive clothes does not make you a fashionista.

  25. JaneWonderfalls says:

I guess dressing homeless is considered this year’s popular style. I never look to magazines for fashion in’s and out.

  26. Sassyspank says:

Pyewacket said it best – hilarious! I sniff that Vogue got some $$ from those girls in some way…because you’d have to *pay someone* to say such a redic statement…

  27. ADC says:

I feel the same way about elle fanning. She’s a child!

  28. køb says:

I do not even understand how I ended up right here, however I assumed this publish was once good. I do not realize who you might be but definitely you’re going to a well-known blogger in the event you are not already. Cheers!
