What he said WAS off-line. He shouldn’t have slandered that writer that’s for sure. That writer is directing the new Bourne movie and has a list of good films.

I like Matt, but this was poor judgement on his part.

And I'll further comment on this: "I don’t really grasp the politics of the Bourne movies, but I wonder if Damon is throwing Gilroy or the studio under the bus by admitting that the guy cashed in and delivered a script that was unreadable." How about a third option ... he's just being honest? The fact is that Universal hired George Nolfi (who wrote and directed "The Adjustment Bureau") and Scott Z. Burns to do the rewrites of "The Bourne Ultimatum" script, and they literally did so day by day and scene by scene. I distinctly recall Paul Greengrass talking about the 'cafe' scene with Jason Bourne and Nicky Parsons that George Nolfi wrote, with the wonderful bit where Nicky Parsons implies that she and Jason Bourne may have had a romantic past (which I think is one of the best scenes in the film). The Moroccan location scenes that apparently got the most rewrites, and they filmed during the Holy month of Ramadan. Because of Ramadan, the local crew members fasted all day while still lifting and carrying heavy equipment, which slowed things down a bit. I remember reading that Matt Damon was a bit grumpy on set during the shoot in Morocco because of all the delays, mainly caused by the scrip rewrites. They were in Morocco far longer than planned. The rough draft of "The Bourne Ultimatum" was one of the reasons why Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass were given script approval for a fourth Bourne film. They just couldn't get behind anything Universal put in front of them, and eventually had to move on to other film projects.
