Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes make out in public, but she’s more into it than he is

Why do I keep forgetting that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are a couple? We have all of these convenient photos of them together, taken conveniently during their Thanksgiving holiday in Paris, and they’re conveniently starring together in an as-yet-unreleased film. Why do I keep forgetting that? Maybe it’s because Ryan has been single or single-ish for so long, and I’ve got the mindset that he’ll be taking his latest piece to Disneyland any moment now? Maybe it’s because I think Ryan isn’t so much “in love” with Eva, but he just realized that his Disneyland whore parade probably wasn’t keeping his female fan base happy? Or is Eva the one pushing this relationship? That’s what Star Mag would have us believe – they claim that Eva is totally into Gosling and he’s all “meh.”

On the menu for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes: plenty of PDA! Golsing, 31, and Eva, 37, were simply sizzling during a dinner date at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge on Dec. 2.

“They were making out during their meal and also outside the eatery,” an observor tells Star. The passionate evening follows a lovey-dovey late-November trip to Paris. But since they’ve only been dating since September, is it all too much, too soon – for Ryan at least?

“Eva was more touchy and affectionate than Ryan,” says the observor. “He looks into her, but she seems even more into him.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Sure, I’ll buy that. I think Ryan plays at the wide-eyed puppy-love stuff, but he’s probably not all that affectionate and romantic when it comes down to it. Anyway, In Touch has a story about Ryan and Eva too – apparently, Ryan’s friends don’t care for Eva, and they all hope he’ll get back with Rachel McAdams. Code Red: Ryan Gosling’s friends are all chicks who have seen The Notebook too many times.

Ryan Gosling sure seems happy with new love Eva Mendes, but it looks like his buddies aren’t quite as overjoyed. A friend tells In Touch that Ryan’s pals haven’t warmed up to Eva and hope he will rekindle his romance with Rachel McAdams, whome he dated for more than three years before they split in 2008.

They like Rachel a lot more – she was as close to Ryan’s friends as she was to Ryan himself.

“She’s fun and a fellow Canadian,” the pal says.

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

Yeah, I guess I’m one of the few people that actually LIKES Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams together. I hope Rachel and Michael are solid, and I hope they get married some day soon. They seem like a “real” couple – she’s pretty and family-oriented, he’s intelligent and eccentric and talented. Sorry, Notebook-fiends, but I prefer Rachel with Michael. It seems like an adult relationship, as opposed to whatever boy-drama Ryan has going on.

    ALLIE+NOAH 4EVER. 😉
lol. I just love Rachel and Ryan. But Rachel and Michael are growing on me. That leaves Ryan…for me

  2. normades says:

I love Rachel but I think she really dropped the ball on her career. She could have been A list by now but I think she’ll be forever a B. She didn’t capitalize on her popularity, didn’t strike while the iron was hot, made poor film choices and didn’t have good enough representation (imo).

    • DarkEmpress says:

I agree with you, she should be an a list actress! Why hasnt that happened? Maybe she was typecast as the “girlfriend”. I think she is brilliant. As for her and Ryan I think that he definitely messed up when he let her get away.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

It’s all bc of that very stupid Time traveler’s Wife movie. Both that and Sherlock Holmes brought her down many notches, IMHO.

    • podzol says:

I kind of think her relationship with Ryan at that time also had an effect on the choices (and extreme pickiness) she made in that time frame, to a point that it stifled her opportunities. She had a lot of offers, both for b-list movies but also extremely high-profile ones, and turned them down because she was looking for better inspired characters and scripts…but that resulted in Married Life, Lucky Ones and Time Traveler’s Wife.

Her career arc reminds me of Clive Owen’s post-Closer: quickly on the way to A-list, only to slowly deflate due to questionable choices. Sad 🙁 But there’s so much good will in the industry for her that she only needs a great character arc in a solid hit to bounce back.

      • normades says:

True, like they say “it only takes one film”…but she needs to find that one.
I read that she turned down Devil wears Prada. Talk about your sliding doors. She should be having Anne Hathaway’s career.
And I tots agree about her stifled opportunities when with Ryan. Ryan’s strategy was to lay low as to not peak too early and hit his stride in his early 30’s (accomplished). But for actresses the shelf life is not the same. She should have worked more back then.

    • Original Chloe says:

I loved Rachel in the first part of Slings and Arrows (a Canadian short series about Shakespearian actors, I know, I KNOW.)

No but seriously, it’s really good. You guys should watch it. It’s pre-Notebook, and kinda awesome.

And I do like her with Michael. Gosling seems almost too surreal now to be with. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d hit that in a heartbeat but something tells me Ryan will surprise us all one day. In other words, I don’t think Eva is the One.

  3. Aria says:

I love the Rachel-Michael affair. They seem in love. That vintage pic of Rachel and Ryan is so odd. She has that amine style going on and he looks like an extra from a period movie.

  4. Mel says:

Star Mag, In Touch…. yeah ok. Neeeeext!

  5. normades says:

I believe that R and R never really got “back together”. That was just PR that she desperately needed at the time.

Rachel and Sheen make a great couple!

  6. Kit says:

I think the Nat. Enquirer has yet another story about how Eva has told him to stay away from Emma Stone etc. LOL, so funny! I wonder how he likes making it into the gossip rags every week now. I’m surprised there aren’t any pap pics from the hot dinner date?

  7. Bite me says:

I finally watched Morning GLory on Netflix … Poor RAchel… Does anyone have any info on current or future projects she’s working on

    • Obvious says:

she is in the new sherlock holmes movie but she isn’t a major player like last time i don’t think. check imdb.com and look her up to see what she’s working on.

  8. brin says:

Love Rachel and Michael Sheen, they look like a couple in love.
I don’t get Ryan and Eva at all.

  9. inception fan says:

Am I the only one who thinks that Ryan has crush on Emma Stone, and so it why he wasnt serious with Blake and Olivia, because he was waiting for her while she dating with Culkin? And then he found out that Emma dating Andrew and realized that he had no chance. Immediately after the premiere of Crazy, stupid love, he started an affair with Eve. But since he still works with her on Gangster Squad it is give him a hope

    • Agree says:

I totally love your theory! Hope this is true! On the set pictures of Gangster Squad it seemed that Ryan had some sort of crush towards Emma. Hopefully in the future they can go beyond their friendship.

  10. emma says:

Tryhard Ryan at it again. I guess he’s going by the George Clooney playbook in order to get into the awards race since staying low profile last year didn’t help and he had to rely on talent alone and his talent is boring and not very noticeable without the real life drama.

  11. Marjalane says:

The Beverly Hills Polo Lounge? Uh, yeah- like that’s the place to go for romantic privacy? This love story smells awfully fishy…I have to agree that it’s probably a bit of damage control for Ryan’s manwhoring reputation.

  12. Girl says:

I must be one of the few American women whose never felt compelled to sit all the way through The Notebook. Or read the book.

    • normades says:

The movie is kinda dumb, but it’s a fun romantic tear-jerker.

I tried to read the book (I knew it would be “bad”), but it was soooo bad I couldn’t even finish it. That man seriously cannot write.

    • Dani says:

I never got into the Notebook either. Too soppy. Too predictable.

    • Charmander says:

I watched the movie in a theater stuffed with crying women, so I couldn’t take it seriously at all. I spent the whole time trying not to laugh. The second time I saw it I actually enjoyed it.

The book is TERRIBLE, just terrible.

  13. kelbear says:

I loved Rachel and Ryan together back when they did The Notebook but after that they both started to grow up more and went in different directions. I love Rachel so I am happy with whoever she chooses to be with. Btw, when Rachel and Ryan accepted the award for best kiss at the MTV movie awards was by far the best thing ever to happen at one of those award shows. Definitely look it up if you haven’t seen it.

  14. Jane says:

Rachael and Michael are a cute couple! He is funny as hell and charismatic. People need to get over her and Gosling already.

  15. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

What is Ryan’s deal? He always seems so immature in relationship, like what someone was saying about Clooney and his manwhoring ways. I agree with that. Rachel seems like a complete opposite- wants a serious relationship. Love her!

  16. Danielle says:

Gosling hasn’t had a serious relationship since Rachel, who he called one of the greatest loves of his life. He’s still not completely over her and probably knows he let a good thing go.

  17. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

Rachel looks gorgeous with the pink hair – not everyone can pull that off but she does so marvellously.

  18. sara says:

In photos, he just doesn’t look very in love with Eva. Maybe he doesn’t show affection in public, but I find that hard to believe, with him being a touchy-feely person. He looks bored with her. They aren’t good together. She seems too high maintenance or something. I’d love him with Emma Stone, but she’s with someone else.

  19. podzol says:

To me, Rooney Mara is the female version of Gosling: can be a stunner given the right looks, awkward and eccentric, hipster try-hard/channels her onscreen character even when offscreen, good actor. I’d be curious to see what a hook-up would result in and think they’d make more sense together than Gosling-Mendes.

    • Dani says:

Points for noticing that. I don’t know much about her except for what she looks like, but they could make a nice couple.

    • Yorkie says:

Except you know, Mara lacks the whole personality aspect of life. Gosling has a pretty great personality… even if it’s not truly who he is, he puts on a great show and is entertaining for his fans. Mara is stoic, boring, and comes across as extremely cold. They should never ever ever ever ever hook up.

  20. Nessa says:

I cannot stand Eva Mendes. Probably one of my least favorite celebrities… ever.

  21. Dani says:

    I agree with the buddies. I’m much more of a fan of R & R than R & E.

  22. The Original Denise says:

His friends need to leave Rachel out of this…. She has moved on and is happy. Gosling is into…Gosling, so no news here.

  23. Kimberly says:

OMG they are not a couple. Glad she went to rehab a while ago and maybe sobered up, but they are not a couple, they’re just fucking.

  24. sandy#1 says:

i don’t like them as a couple, Eva just wants to date a celeb, they don’t look compatible, no chemistry at all, Ryan needs someone else, i love Rachel with her current man , i just like Rachel.

  25. sandy#1 says:

i lost my post, anyway, what i said was, i don’t like eva with ryan, they have no chemistry. i liked ryan with rachel, but… i also like rachel with her current man.

  26. Um says:

Am I the only one who didn’t like Ryan and Rachel together? Maybe it’s because I absolutely hated The Notebook , what an awful movie!

  27. jen says:

Rachel has totally moved on and her relationship with Michael Sheen is adorable.

Eva is a strange match for Ryan … she seems like a psycho.

  28. Thea says:

I love Ryan but I think he is George Clooney Jr. in the making.

  29. Kosmos says:

Do NOT think Eva and Ryan will stay together for long. Seems like a mismatch only got together because they were each available 🙁 Do not think Mendez is too bright…do not know about Ryan. May be another 2-minute passing relationship.

  30. kris says:

eva is so ugly why the hell am i the only one who thinks that?!

    • gab says:

Kris, you are NOT alone in thinking that Eva is not attractive. To me she looks close to mid 50s. But it is her personality that kills it finally.
Rachel and Michael look like the real deal together. Their happiness shows. I wish Ryan would move on from Eva.

  31. anonymous says:

He looks like David Arquette in that first photo. He was right about not being handsome, in the “Notebook” as well as “Lars…” he was a lot heavier and dorky looking. His body build leans toward weight and full face he going to have to work at this.

  32. Heather M (Heather) says:

He was quoted as saying he began his career in acting b/c of his crush for Raquel Welch. Eva looks like Raquel Welch. I finally get it.

  33. jane says:

    i love this couple
