Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's widow, has died

Dana Reeve, widow to the late Christopher Reeve, succumbed to lung cancer late Monday at the age of 44. Reeve continued her husband's work as a champion for stem cell treatment and research as the head of the Christopher Reeve Foundation. She was a devoted wife, mother and activist and will be missed:

Reeve, a non-smoker all her life, died on Monday, the [Christopher Reeve] foundation's president and chief executive Kathy Lewis said.

"We are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us," Lewis said in a statement.
