Angelina Jolie wears black suit for “Foreign Language Film” nominees event: lovely?

I always love seeing Angelina Jolie in a suit. These are photos from the American Cinematheque’s 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards Foreign-Language Nominee Event, in which Angelina joined her fellow Golden Globe-nominated directors for some photo ops, interviews, and… lunch, maybe? She posed with Aida Takla O’Reilly (the shorter, older dude), who is president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and with Pedro Almodovar, who is nominated for The Skin I Live In. She also posed with all of her fellow “Best Foreign Language” nominees/directors.

According to Just Jared, Angelina’s ensemble was a mix of a Michael Kors dress and a Tom Ford jacket. She wore Michael Kors last week too – Kors designed that coat she wore in Washington, D.C. Maybe she’ll be wearing Kors at the Globes tonight? Hmm… that would be interesting. Anyway, I do like it when Angelina wears suits and looks like a professional. I think her business style – pencil skirts, cashmere, well-tailored suits – is much better than her red carpet style.

Any thoughts as to whether Angelina and/or Brad will actually win a Golden Globe tonight? If it’s between the two of them, I’m hoping Brad wins Best Actor. I will be sick to my stomach if Clooney walks away with it, anointed as the frontrunner in this Best Actor race. Meanwhile, I think Angelina should be proud of her Foreign Language nomination, but there are probably more worthy winners. The Hollywood Foreign Press loves Almodovar, right? Also – both Angelina and Brad are going to be presenting tonight, so they’re both guaranteed some time on the stage. Moneyball is up for Best Picture, Drama, and how cute would it be if Angelina introduced the clip?

In this outfit and with her hair up she looks very French. Very elegant, I like it a lot!

  2. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Looks like what I wear to work most days (black or navy suit). Kind of boring.

  3. Joan says:

Good outfit if you are attending a funeral. Does she try to say something about her failing career?

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

It’s exactly what I wear to direct funerals. Perhaps she feels the content of the movie is too somber to wear something cheerful or sexy?

      • aprayerforthewildatheart says:

Exactly, she’s taking her film and its content seriously, as she should.

    • Jessica says:

Her failing career? What have you been smoking?

And I’m not even a Jolie fan. Her career is pretty much touched by King Midas at all turns. When deserved and even when not deserved.

      • Joan says:

Yeah Kung Fu Panda was a hit. Give me a break. She haven’t had hit in years.

      • NM9005 says:

Joan is right. Weirdly enough for being a tabloid/blogging ficture, her films (besides action and animation) don’t bring in money. Her good films are not popular and generic cr* like “The Tourist” is bringing in the numbers. Not sure if she wants to be remembers for dragons like that :S. You have to be blind not to see that people like Angelina Jolie, the person more instead of Angelina Jolie, the actor.

      • Dede says:

however crappy the tourist is it still made 278mil so she still brings the money, and just because its action it doesnt mean it will be a success especially if its an original female led action movie, Changeling made 113mil WW which will probably be more than J Edgar which stars Leo D..

      • NM9005 says:

I’m not one to judge a film on it’s BO success but if I would than I would rather see a good film like The Good Shepherd or The Changeling (which didn’t do well domestically btw) instead of The Tourist since the latter isn’t the kind of films that go into film history and won’t give Jolie a good name as an actress. Whereas Leo D. is really one of the best of his generation and his films will be remembered. Really, Leo D. will always surpass Jolie when based on their acting choices alone, add also the fact that although he’s a modelizer and people know his dirt, he doesn’t actively call the tabs and sell his private life. He’s very serious about his work and will not jeopardise it with cheesy personal quotes as it will distract the audiences of his performance. He worked hard to shed his pretty boy image and Jolie works hard to maintain some kind of positive image. It’s not enough she IS or DOES it, she has to say it, show it, sell it, flaunt it. Sometimes, it’s overkill.

And another thing, The Tourist starred Depp too you know so it wasn’t HER film just like Wanted starred McAvoy and Freeman, not exactly beginners.

      • Dede says:

lep did is also known for only dating VS models and his personal life has ridiculed because of that esp when he dated Blake..The Tourtist would not have made that much money if AJ wasnt in it with Depp they BOTH are responsible for the success, just look at Rum Diarys number..according to Cinemascore more than 60% went to see Wanted BECAUSE of AJ, you ever wonder how Wanted made so much money yet 4 years later and still no Wanted 2? its cuz AJ said she wouldnt do it.

      • NM9005 says:

        @ dede:

        – Yeah, I already stated Leo D’s dirt. At least he’s doing it in the present. Jolie also had her dirt and they keep bringing it up over and over again plus using it to describe her personality to this day! The “playing” of Lively is tabloid fodder. Real film critics or cinephiles don’t care about that. And dating models? Are we going to judge him for that? It doesn’t get in the way of his job so who cares? He’s not Sheen.

        – Depp his “thing” was that he was an offbeat actor. He never makes a lot of money only with those Pirates like sell-out silly dress-up films. Nevertheless, the man can act his ass off!

        – I already discussed the making of Wanted 2. Main reason she isn’t coming back: it’s ridiculous to let a dead person come back. Even Jolie sees this. They should’ve kept her alive if they wanted to cash in on Fox.

        – Poster of Wanted: AJ, trailer: AJ kicking ass. That’s my point. She sells on one specific note. A pretty girl who happens to be able to handle a gun. Fanboys galore.

        @Jen D:

I can be hard on her but I agree with your comment directed at me.

I do think she is more than a celebrity too but I also see why you made that first comment. People don’t see her as a serious actress. Her celebrityness has taken over and I do think she feels the heat although she can’t quit the oversharing because that’s what’s keeps her so interested for the fans. She can’t keep on doing those action typed films forever so it will be good she does more serious work and less money making films.

      • deltona lakes says:

Yea Joan she hasn’t had a hit in years.
        2008 Changeling $113 mil
        2008 Wanted $341 mil
        2010 Salt $293 mil
        2010 The Tourist $279 mil
        2011 Kung Fu Panda 2 $665 mil
(voiceover) I wasn’t going to include.

Let’s match these BO numbers to any other actress in HW that can carry a Movie on their own in the past 4 years.
I would say only handful of men have accomplished.

I love Morgan Freeman but Morgan Freeman alone is not generating over $300 mil at the box office.

    • Lacey says:

      LOL!

    • Lauren says:

      Aniston? Is that you?

      • hatekyle says:

Ya I heard JA is going to direct a film too starring her bff Chelsea Handler, “On One Hand Vodka, The Other Hennessy”

    • Jen D says:

Is her career really failing? I think it’s doing better than ever. I think it just depends on what you see her career as. As an actress she’s probably not doing as well as others (I’m not completely aware of the stats surrounding her movies). As a celebrity she’s at the top of her game. No one brings out the publicity like her and BP. I’m going to assume you’re not a big fan, but it’s people like you who keep her in business. She’s so polarizing, but not in a way that’s detrimental to her. I mean, no one really cares what you or I think of her, but the fact is that fans (like myself, to a certain degree), and non-fans (like yourself) will pay attention to her and click on websites and articles featuring her. It doesn’t matter what we think or what we say – we’re interested in her enough to comment, which means we’re making more money for websites by increasing their traffic.

I’m sure it won’t last forever, but for now, in my opinion, her career as a celebrity, superstar, whatever couldn’t be going any better.

      • Joan says:

Kim Kardashian is at the top of her game too. So I guess reading your comment I can say that they are at the same level. Angelina – the the queen of tabloids and gossip websites next to KK. So maybe her fans should stop pretend that she is something more that she is in reality. Like I said before she haven’t had hit in years. I always tought that first of all she is an actress. I was wrong.

      • Rhea says:

        I sooooo agree with u!

      • NM9005 says:

I think it depends on how Jolie sees what a career is and since she has signed up to Gosling’s agency and tries to do Oscar worthy films, I think it’s fair to say her career is “serious actress” and humanitarian of course.

Everybody can be a celebrity (KK, Paris Hilton!). Since she herself doesn’t find the gossips interesting, I don’t think she would like to be remembered as just a celebrity. And in the end, what does all that publicity matter if people won’t go watch her films? Blanchett or Streep aren’t tabloid fixtures nor celebrities and their films have moderate success but their efforts as actors are legendary. Jolie will never be that kind of actress (partly her own fault since those two won’t be oversharing any time soon, art speaks for itself). If even her fans thinks she’s just a celebrity than she has a pretty low bar to jump over (and still fails). So in the end, it’s the websites that make money and the spreads in the magazines but she herself apparently just has to be present and look pretty while spouting of personal quotes which makes the fans go crazy but not so much as in they want her established as a great actress. It’s quite demeaning for a woman of her talents.

      • Jen D says:

Oh please. Angelina Jolie is way better at this than Kim Kardashian. KK will be replaced in a few months by someone else just like her. Not only that, she’ll never run in the same circles as AJ. She will never have the same influence AJ does. She will never win any awards, nor will she be photographed with world leaders. Kim Kardashian probably has to hustle to get into awards shows and events. People questionably nominate Jolie just so she’ll show up.

I’m not going to debate the acting thing with you – I like her, you don’t. It’s just an opinion thing, and there’s never any real way to resolve those debates. Putting her on level with Kim Kardashian? Please. Kim’s an amateur. She may get lots of magazine covers for the next few months, but she’ll never have the influence.

      • Jen D says:

        @NM9005

If you’re referring to me (sorry, for some reason I can’t reply directly to your comment), I don’t think she’s just a celebrity.

I love AJ. I think she’s pretty great, and I can’t think of anyone who’s used their influence in Hollywood any better. I’ve said this many times before – there are a lot of people who only read celebrity news who know at least a little about what is going on in the world because of Angelina Jolie. She’s found a clever way to be an advocate for refugees around the world by using her unique position as an amazingly popular celebrity to bring awareness to what is going on outside of the US.

I don’t know her, so I can’t say what her motivations are, but I suspect she carefully crafts a lot of what she does so that she can continue to be this influential. Lots of people will disagree, but since (most probably) none of us really know her it’s all conjecture.

      • D says:

I’ve frequently seen Angelia compared to Elizabeth Taylor. The difference is that while Liz Taylor was also a huge celebrity & gossip column fixture because of her love life, she also appeared in several excellent films throughout her whole career – National Velvet, A Place in the Sun, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, etc. – that are considered classics. Long after the gossip about her lovers & lifestyle is forgotten, her work as an actress will live on & continue to be seen.

Angelina is definitely a gifted actress – it’s a pity that she has mostly appeared in forgettable films. Brad Pitt has managed to create a career in which he can be a big star & appear in more substantial work by some of the best directors working today. His legacy is pretty secure.

I have no idea if Angelina wants to be remembered as an artist – if so, she needs to take a page from Pitt’s book.

    • Emma - the JP lover says:

@Joan … Joan, you keep making the statement, but will you ‘please’ name a film with Angelina Jolie made in the last four years that wasn’t a hit? And if you’re making so bold a statement, I (at least) think that you shold back up such a bold statement up with box office numbers, both domestic and foreign (for worldwide) totals too, if you please. If you can’t, then perhaps you might consider qualifying your bold statement by saying ‘I don’t think’ she’s had a hit in several years.

      • lee says:

Well, it is said a movie has to make three times its production costs to be considered a hit movie.
The Changeling production costs were 55M and its total gross was 113M. So not a hit.
A Mighty Heart cost 16M and only made 19M
        thus a bomb.

Those are the only two i checked and both were not hits.

I don’t count voice overs as the voices are only used domestically. The are dubbed overseas.

    • Adrien says:

      Psssttt!!! Try looking at Forbes
Annual Celeb list, not box office receipts. Although she dropped several notches from her 2009 rank, there’s still no sign her career is failing. It’s only getting better due to her union with one of last year’s biggest earner, Brad Pitt.

    • Ellie says:

Lol, keep dreaming. As long as she is still the highest paid actress, her career is doing very well. Sorry. 🙂

  4. mikamoo says:

    She’s so beautiful.

  5. Franny says:

I think she looks fantastic. How someone will find something wrong with this is beyond me.

  6. valleymiss says:

She looks like she’s about to give a presentation at the advertising agency where she works.

  7. deltona lakes says:

Michael Kors didn’t design the jumpsuit that she wore at palm springs. It was Elie Saab.

  8. Madpoe says:

Very executive – almost first lady like. Nice.

  9. lisa says:

    She is presenting Best Director.

She looks so lovely. There are some better pics out there to see. She just looks classy. Sad that her detractors can’t stay away.

I saw pics of the back of her hair and it was a messy up sweep. But so nice. showing her face. And her perfect profile.

I too want Brad to win tonight or the Oscar. His performance in both films was truly outstanding.

  10. kaykay says:

she looks so hard in the face always at least 10 years older than she is, I dont think she’s aging well at all.

    • Remote Control says:

      You must be on crack.

      • Flan says:

        Exactly.

She looks absolutely stunning in those pictures, more than normally even.

      • KellyF says:

She is ageing gracefully, but Botox-smoothed. I wonder if she is roughly the same age as the men she is standing with, frizzy grey hair and all. Can I be really picky? Lovely jacket — her tailor needs to lengthen the sleeves next time.

  11. Sam says:

Geez, just go away already, so tired of her and her desperation for pimping this film!

    • lisa says:

so are the men in the picture with her being desperate too.

really get over yourself. She was nominated and is at an event for the directors nominated.

    • Layla says:

Yep, and she is soooo full of herself right now, it’s annoying.

      • ahoyhoy says:

They invited her for the film she made. It’s wrong for her to accept? It’s wrong for her to want people to see it?
If anyone invited you to an open house, you’d jump at the chance.
Why begrudge this woman her career? Can an attractive woman do anything right in your eyes? And I don’t mean ‘cute’, I mean gorgeous.

Get a new meme, ’cause Angie-hate is PLAYED.

    • Marcus says:

      Sam

Here is an idea GENIUS if you are so tired of her don’t click on articles about her.

      • Lauren says:

Amen Marcus, Amen. I really don’t understand someone who says shit like that but keeps reading every damn article about that person.

      • lisa says:

what else would they have to do?

      • patw says:

        okay Marcus,

why don’t you click onto the other threads here (especially the Aniston ones), and deliver that sermon there as well. And then add on this little tag at the end:
        “Celebitchy = Bitching about celebrities.”

        mmkay?

    • That’s her job right now.

      • aprayerforthewildatheart says:

Agree! She directed a film about something she cares about, and is there as a director. No one would ever say that about Spielberg, nor would they comment on how he’s dressed and wish for sparkly skinny jeans. Her partner is extremely famous and they have a family together that they are both always being asked about, that’s just the way it is. However, she did make a film and has just as much right as any director to promote it.

    • bluhare says:

Desperation? Are you kidding me? She’s doing what she has to to market her movie. Just like everyone else does.

      And she looks great.

    • HubbaHub says:

Agreed. So sick of her supercilious, smug and wildly overrated presence. Go away.

  12. Bria says:

    She looks so tall…

    • deltona lakes says:

She is taller than the average American women. 5’7″ and with 4 inch heels 5’11. When people comment that she’s much shorter I’ve never seen a photo where Angie isn’t taller than most women (for the exception of Paltrow and Kidman) and sometimes most men. I think shiloh and vivienne are going to be very tall blonde, beautiful girls.

      • patw says:

yeah that’s what i wanted to comment on – how tall she looks. But then with Brad she doesn’t look it. Based on comparisons with other women he has stood next to, I say she’s about 5’5-5’6

  13. Shelly says:

I don’t like the length of the skirt on her. It needs to be a little shorter. It cuts her off at a weird spot on her legs and is just too long for a woman of her age. Other than that she looks good.

  14. Angelique says:

Her face, just beautiful… Suit fits her well, very elegant and pretty

  15. Rita says:

If she was holding a pointer to the placard on the easel, she’d look just like my high school geography teacher…she got fired for having sex with one of the football players.

  16. Jackie says:

think she looks great, even if she does look older than her age. although, she certainly has packed alot of life into her 30 something years.

  17. Bria says:

I read in the news here in Brasil of a member of Golden Globes from Brasil reported Angelina will present
    Best Director

    …..

  18. Lucy says:

I think she looks elegant and beautiful…she is attending as a director not an actress..so I totally get the more reserved look…I will be totally pissed if Clooney beats Brad…Clooney is the exact same in every movie…please oh please let Brad win tonight….By the way, I am soooooo looking forward to Ricky Gervais tonight!

  19. Missy Mara says:

I don’t think she looks older. She’s just dressing & styling herself like a woman, not like a girl. I respect that a lot.

  20. samira677 says:

I have to laugh at all of the people who are saying the suit is horrible and in the same breath say they wear something like it to work everyday. It’s a business suit. there’s nothing wrong with it. Considering this was a casual, daytime event what she’s wearing is appropriate. I’m sure I’ve said this 1000 times before but it’s bizarre that the haters will find any excuse to attack Angelina.

Angelina doesn’t stand a chance of winning. I don’t remember which but another film is expected to win. Brad has a huge shot of winning. George is his main competition.

    • Lauren says:

Samira, personal question, if you don’t mind :D..

Where are you (originally) from? Your name is very Moroccan.

    • abby says:

I think it’s just we want more from her (probably wrongly in your view). I wear well tailored suits and cashmere sweaters and pencil skirts and silk blouses and trench coats to work every day. As does pretty much every other woman in my office. And when we need to dress up for an awards banquet or charity event, we can all rock a well cut and work appropriate cocktail dress.

The woman is gorgeous and has unlimited access to better clothes than I’ll every be able to afford AND someone to actually pick them out for her and tailor them for her (so she doesn’t need to really spend effort on any of this). I get that she doesn’t care about fashion and has better things to do etc. etc., but it just seems like a shame that she shows up to all these events wasting her potential and almost apologizing for how she looks with her outfits.

      • samira677 says:

Like I said, this is a casual daytime event. The men she’s posing with are wearing jeans or suits with open shirts and no ties. Wearing a cocktail dress is overdoing it. Her suit is fine. It’s not even a big publicized event. Not sure why expectations should be so big.

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@Samira, I believe I said I wear something like this to work almost every day (which is why I find it boring). I also said she’s probably going for a serious/understated look considering the content of her film. I’d say that you’re being overly sensitive if THAT is considered “hating” or attacking her. I’d hate to see how you handle constructive criticism that’s directed at you (rather than a celebrity that you don’t know).

  21. bros says:

the shorter guy on the other side of her is Asghar Farhadi, the Iranian director of Nader and Simin: A separation.

    • Az says:

And that movie is the frontrunner for Best Foreign Film at the Globes. The same will go for the Oscars, wait and see. Deservedly so, from what I’ve read/heard.

      • VML says:

My guess as well. Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation will win the best foreign language film, imo.

  22. Dree says:

I sooooo hope Brad wins!!! That is all.

  23. Maya says:

    Holy crap, that face…

  24. operagirl says:

Her makeup here is perfect for her.

  25. podzol says:

I really liked her black and grey St. John dress/suit combo when she was their spokesperson. To date, I still think she was their most smashing Actor/Superstar model. The black and white shoot was flawless, and she had a tiny bit more meat on her.

    • anon says:

“To date, I still think she was their most smashing Actor/Superstar model”
I loved those ads, all of them.

  26. Katherine says:

She looks sophisticated and elegant. She doesn’t look older she looks mature and dresses and acts age appropriate. There’s a difference.

I also like that she doesn’t seem obsessed with being perfect. She’s had a few sun marks for a while now and I would think if she were vain she’d easily get them taken care of as well as her moles.

  27. NM9005 says:

I’m “meh” about it. It’s a suit like any other so nothing special at all. The shoes are the best and I love it that she doesn’t wear too much make-up (or so it seems).

I forgot to mention on the other thread I loved the leather (real?) skirt and white blouse. It was a superb outfit in its whole. Jolie surprises once in a while when it comes to fashion.

    • Heine says:

Don’t kid yourself about the makeup. She’s got a full face of ‘natural’ makeup. Nothing wrong with it as everyone does it (even men wear makeup when they know they’ll be photographed), just pointing out that even women with seemingly flawless faces do not roll out of bed that way.

      • NM9005 says:

That’s why I carefully put the the “or so it seems”. When they go for the nude look, it is often very well crafted so I’m sceptic about it. But I rather see a well done nude look than a clown’s mug like Xtina :).

  28. juju says:

Now this is what u call a beautiful women !! just lovely

  29. hopeso says:

She looks gorgeous as always….A goddess.

  30. The ORIGINAL Miami D. says:

    IT’S JEALOUSY!

  31. cbear says:

I think she looks beautiful and classy. Appropriate to the event. She’s so naturally beautiful it’s difficult for her to look too bad, though I do think she could stand just a few more pounds. Can’t fault her for looking tired sometimes..I mean, she has 6 kids!

  32. lisa says:

Gosh I wish the camera’s could capture the color of her eyes.

    some say green
    blue/green
    minty
    aqua

I’ve seen a few close up, but I saw a few interviewers comment on how amazing her eye color is. Shame that at least one of their 3 bio kids didn’t get her eye shade. Brad’s genes seemed to dominate in that department.

  33. Camille (The original) says:

She looks gorgeous and chic, love it.

  34. Cristina says:

Did Kaiser just say that she wishes Brad win best actor instead of Fassy?!?!

    • Asli says:

No, but I think it’s fairly obvious that Brad and George are the ones most likely to win. Out of those two I’m pretty sure most(not all) would like Brad to win.

  35. Dhavy says:

she’s the kind of woman who desn’t need a dress that shows half her ass or half her boobs in order to command attention. She’s beautiful enough to dress this way (elegant) and still get the attention. I think it’s very appropiate for the occasion; it shows respect for her fellow nominees and the nomination itself.

  36. w says:

    STUNNING BITCH

  37. vjf says:

I’m from iran and i hope “a separation” wins tonight!! it’s really a great movie you should watch it

  38. itstrue says:

Okay, I’m not really a fan…but I do kinda love how she wears stuff out of her closet for things. You have seen her in repeat outfits much more often than anyone else.

  39. teri says:

She looked so elegant, I liked her black suit. Some are overly critical of her anyhow why push on something sexy and tight for such a sad movie? She’s proven herself so she doesn’t need to sell her body on top of it.

  40. Mari says:

It is just great how she is the only woman director in this category. It is a field dominated by men, wish more women got to direct quality projects.

    • Flan says:

Debra Granik (Winter’s Bone) is directing and writing a movie about a Jamaican teenagers who is abused now.

Susanne Bier (In a better world, which won best foreign language Oscar last year) is also one to watch.

There are still not many compared to men, so I like supporting women directors.

      • Asli says:

Susanne Bier is actually working on a movie starring Pierce Brosnan right now. It’s called: “Den skaldede frisør” translated: “The bald hairdresser”. But I don’t think it will be translated like that just like “In a better world” would have been titled: “The revenge” if translated directly.

  41. Heine says:

What is with the random Clooney hate? He’s a good actor and he was really funny/dramatic in The Descendants. Brad did an excellent job in Moneyball.

Both deserve the win, in my opinion.

Her suit is boring but she has always sucked in the fashion department.

    • Camille (The original) says:

I can’t speak for everyone, but I have *never* gotten Clooneys appeal.
I think he was only good in a couple of movies (he was sexy in Dusk till Dawn and was good in Burn after Reading, although I thought Pitt was great in that).
I’ve never been a Clooney fan and I find him massively over rated in more ways than one and I find him to generally be the same in every movie. I just don’t care for the guy and his smug shtick, never have and probably never will. *shrugs*

  42. olivia says:

Something is in the water. She appears to be smugger than ever…

  43. lucy2 says:

I like the suit (if it is a bit boring), hair and makeup, but don’t care for that huge ring.

  44. TP says:

she needs to wear pink blush and cover the dark circles under her eyes

this zombie/ultra white/gray accents scheme is too Edward Cullen

  45. Hmmm says:

It really is all about the right image to her. This is her “I want to be taken seriously” outfit. Among REAL directors who have paid endless dues. Ye gods. Absolutely manipulative. I wasn’t convinced until now.

    • Josephina says:

And from your point of view…

WHAT outfit would be appropriate wear for this event? A strapless, above-the-knee party dress to be worn in the middle of the day?

Angie wears black most of the time. Why is anyone surprised?

She is a REAL director. Get used to it.

      • Hmmm says:

        “She is a REAL director”.

        Bwahahahaha!!

      • Flan says:

Yeah, Hmmm. She’s laughing too, with all her millions. Maybe a little harder than you.

      • KellyF says:

The men in the photo are dressed appropriately. AJ’s suit is way too formal and serious for this event. She could have worn a light blouse under that jacket and blend a little. And her shoes are too exquisite.

  46. Julia says:

She wears something sober elegant and chic like her director status and her serious movie needs her to be.

Only mediocre fluffy women who want to distract from the mediocrity of their work would opt for something skimpy and revealing to defend their work among a bunch of men all defending serious projects.

She is in a macho league and doesn’t need to show how sexy she is defending a serious project around mass murdering and mass rape; her outfit is perfectly in par with it.

No need for hair flipping, miniskirts, dramatic color and sexy siren like pose.

  47. Astrid says:

I’m sorry but come on… A suit? I get that she wants to be taken seriously but this is just too safe an option.

Isn’t it possible to add a certain twist to make it at least remotely interesting? A nice dash of colour in that sea of black?

  48. Moreaces says:

    Gorgeous.

  49. Riri says:

She looks amazing, so professional and serious and very beautiful.

    The suit adds sophistication.

The skirt should have been a little shorter above knee length, but I assume she is too thin to bare her knees.

  50. Chris says:

She looks like the VP of Human Resources.

  51. Snowbunny says:

She looks beautiful, very professional. Best of luck to her tonight.

  52. Marie says:

I guess Angie ‘serious director’ Jolie won’t be licking her Golden Globe award or snogging her brother if she wins this year?

    Colour me dissapointed.

    • Mari says:

Yeah, Marie, she has grown out of those antics… I can see it hurts you deeply, but it is called growing and maturing. Surprised to see how many still live in a time loop, wishing it was 1998… Oh wait…

      • Marie says:

Yeah, Mari, it hurts me deeply. I was just teasing, but out of curiousity, if the things I mentioned happened in a 90’s ‘time loop’, does that mean mean her BSA Oscar credit has also expired? Or only the unseemly things you fans want to forget?

  53. Honky says:

I gotta keep out of the sun. I’ve noticed Angie and Madonna’s skin is like porcelain, so beautiful and white and no freckles or moles like me! Maybe its too late for me…

  54. RichCrib says:

Well well dont you guys know that black is in style making you look slimmer and elegant. However it does she would not naturally have selected this outfit unless she had a funeral to go to after the event

  55. original sandy says:

beautiful, i agree she dressed appropriate for the occasion, she’s not some no talent bimbo who needs to show boobs, butt, and bare frontal for attention and distracting from shallowness, she’s a smart woman who works hard and earned her place, she has substance. i hope brad wins tonight also.

  56. Ron says:

She looks great–it fits beautifully and it’s well tailored to her figure. I would have given her accessories a bit more umph. If she had showed up in something more glamourous, everyone would have said she was show boating. Please.

  57. The Man behind the Man says:

“I will be sick to my stomach if Clooney walks away with it”

Yeah I see “liberal” George has been nominated for his role in a Fox Searchlight film. Enough said.

  58. Claire says:

I cannot believe the type of comment you people can actually write about that woman. Some of you are crazy. Really. The comments about her career, how she’s not worth of being called director, how she’s manipulative because she wears a suit (???!) how she’s no better than the Kardashians? Did Georges Clooney has that kind of backlash on this site for his first movie or is this a privilege you keep for women? I know it’s gossip website but sometimes it’s just insane. Not for her, i mean, she doesn’t really give a crap, but for you writing those things..get a life, it’s ok to have one.

    • Flan says:

      Lol, you are right.

Especially the ‘manipulative because she wears a suit’ baffles me.

All guys wearing suits are manipulative too, eh?

  59. ella says:

Looks classy but unfortunately she’s not….

  60. misstrishm says:

AJ is gorgeous in my book no matter what she wears. I would love to have her hair.

  61. khaveman says:

What a librarian look. BO-ring. She is much prettier than this suit. I wish she had worn a different shoe, because the all black was putting me to sleep. And I hate how bony she is. She looks frail, very un-Laura Croft.

  62. Jenna says:

Too boring and business-type for me. She could’ve thrown in a pop of color somewhere. Nothing lovely about this.

  63. Isa says:

LOVE IT! Very elegant and smart.

  64. DrM says:

    Fantastic…such a beautiful woman…

  65. Ellie says:

She looks absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful, classy and elegant.

  66. Sakyiwaa says:

    Love that face!

  67. right says:

Love the suit but with her tiny legs she should have gone with pants. Seriously, it would have looked so much better. Perhaps pants that were a bit more fitted with a pattern to cut the blandness of the suit. It’s lovely but a little, “eh”.
    Hair and make-up are flawless.

  68. teri says:

i love separation of nader and simin ( directed by Asghar Farhadi)
