Globe ladies in purple: Julianna Margulies, Jessica Alba and Laura Linney

One of the things I noticed last night while watching the Globes was just how pulled and frozen everyone looked. It was hard not to see that just about every woman’s face was messed with, some noticeably more than others. So here we have Julianna Margulies, who has natural looking lines but still she looks very Botoxy to me. She’s been that way for a while though. I’m not a fan of her shiny tight purple Naeem Khan gown. I don’t like the very plain, formfitting style of the dress. Coupled with her tightly pulled back hair, it’s too sleek a look. Those green statement earrings are hot, and I do like the open back of the dress.

Jessica Alba wore a lighter shade of purple in studded sequin Gucci. She looks so fresh and glossy in photos, although her spray tan was very obvious looking on camera. I love the style of the dress, especially the bustline, the fitted waist and the slight delicate tail, but something about the pattern is off to me. While the dress was a little strange, overall this look was a win for Jessica.

Laura Linney made me a little sad last night. I love her and I wanted to see her well styled, but her makeup was just so bad. Someone rimmed the membranes of her eyes with dark black liner, making her look squinty, and then slapped some purple eyeshadow on her like a teenager trying out some sparkly Wet and Wild before the Junior prom. It’s so wrong. Her J. Mendel dress was theoretically amazing. I like the modern style and find the slight fold over the asymmetric neckline so clever. Coupled with her styling though, the dress just didn’t pop for her. Those star earrings are from Fragments and they’re cute, but they’re not bold enough for the red carpet. Laura was up for best Actress in a TV Comedy Series, which went to Laura Dern.

I just LOVE Jessica Alba’s skin tone, whether fake or not, it just looks gorgeous and perfect.

  2. brin says:

Of the three Alba definitely looked the best. I didn’t like Julianna’s dress at all.

  3. Shelly says:

Julianna’s dress is absolutely hideous. Whoever told her to wear that should be fired. Jessica has amazing skin. She looks so pretty. And Laura. Well, I love Laura, I think she is a natural beauty, but her makeup artist needs to be fired. And I don’t like that dress color on her either.

  4. Jacq says:

Some of the more pale girls should take note from Alba. She has the coloring to pull off a faded, washed-out color. She did look lovely, way to go Brad Goreski. I love Laura Linney so much, but last night was a swing and a miss.
Did we really win for The Big C? Comedy? I love that show, but dang if I don’t bawl my eyes out!

  5. Alexis says:

Alba’s skin looks great with the dress color. I don’t think her tan looks fake, but I know almost nothing about tanning, fake or real. At any rate, she could have easily tanned to that color anyway.

I love Laura Linney, but her makeup was terrible. I don’t get how stars can get such bad makeup for professional events. Emma Stone’s makeup is also horrible half the time.

  6. hattie says:

i want julianna margulies to eat many sandwiches. and also to see some pictures of her hot husband.

and I love Linney and her dress.

  7. Franny says:

That’s exactly what I said yesterday CB, in my endless posting on the GG thread. I couldn’t believe how much their faces didn’t move! Its completely ridiculous – these women are supposed to make us believe that they are normal women in the parts they play – I don’t know anyone in real life that looks this frozen and plastic. Its disturbing.

Jessica Alba was In the WAY TOO ORANGE club along with Deborah Messing and Rob Lowe. They are all gorgeous–why do they insist on turning the color of a McRib for an award show?!

And Laura Linney’s make-up makes me wanna cry. That’s Bad 90s Prom makeup. Who did this to her???

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Agreed! Esp about Rob Lowe. Gorgeous man, awful tan.

And someone should be shot for making Laura Linney look like that.

  9. Jayna says:

I’m no Jessica Alba fan, but she looked so pretty on the red carpet in that dress, and she actually had a personality in interviews.

  10. Franny says:

Also, it looks like someone needs to go get a teeth cleaning. Every 6 months ladies!

  11. Kerfuffles says:

Just an ETA: I only got HD programming last year and that’s when I saw my first “Awards Season” stuff in HD. I was AMAZED by how much more orange & generally jacked up celebs looked in HD.

I think some of this over-faux-celeb-tanning business is from people that haven’t taken a long hard look in the high-def-is-an-unforgiving-bitch-mirror.

  12. Cathy says:

Jessica looked the best out of three bad choices. Juliannas dress is just plain nasty, and Lauras makeup was just terrible.

  13. Snappyfish says:

Jessica looked lovely. Julianna looked awful & reminded me a squinty eyed vampire. Laura’s dress was a mess. The structure which was suppose to be edgy looked like the designer let the edges slip in the final construction.

  14. tracking says:

I was a little shocked when I saw Julianna. Lovely color, but the cut of the dress was deeply unflattering on her. Jessica Alba had a baby two months? Sick.

  15. GoodCapon says:

    Jessica is stunning.

The other two – PASS. (Sorry Laura!)

  16. Ladyfoot says:

Jessica alba’s dress looks like she’s recycling a prom dress circa 2000. Yeah sure flattering bust and pretty face but why so sparkly and such a juvenile color? Also what was she nominated for?

  17. SamiHami says:

I was so sad to see the pics of Linney. I just love her and tried to convince myself she looked good, but she just didn’t. What a shame; she really is a beautiful woman but everything about that outfit and make up was just wrong.

I don’t much like Alba, but I have to give credit where it is due; that dress was just perfect for her. She looked graet.

Marguiles…well…better than Linney, but only barely.

  18. Sassy says:

Jessica looked lovely, I thought! And I hated Julianna’s dress and on TV those earrings looked cheap and fug but in the photos they look hot!

  19. Guesty says:

Genuine question: I see some shininess on Julianna, too, but how can the lines be apparent through what is doubtlessly some heavy makeup if she’s actually getting Botox?

  20. Lila says:

I thought Julianna looked gorgeous. I love the color on her and the earrings are hot. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was a little too sack-y around her waist. I love her hair like that though. She has a great face.

As for the ‘tox look, I don’t think that’s actually Botox. I think it’s the shiny powder they are all using now. Jolie in particular has that look a lot. If you watch The Good Wife you know that no way does Margulies have Botox. She can scrunch her face up into more expressions than I knew existed.

Alba’s dress is pretty but I don’t like it. Why? I’m not sure. Part of it is the spray tan. She looks fine here but when she got out of the car she was glowing on TV. Part of it is the princess look that I can’t get behind. Another part is probably just that I don’t like her.

    Laura Linney looked awful.

    • Ranga says:

I agree with your Julianna comments! The dress just needed to be tighter in the waist or something.

I get excited when I see actual wrinkles these days.

  21. anonymoose says:

Positively hating those pop-up banner ads at the bottom of these pix! I thought you liked us? Please, be nice! 🙂

  22. Frayed_Edges says:

Random question, I might be totally off here: Why are people like Jessica Alba attending the Golden Globes? Are they nominated for something? Or is it just like ‘Turn up if you want your photo taken’?

  23. nooooooo... says:

You can see all the laugh lines and brow lines on Julianna. How on earth would that be Botoxed….not a fan of the dress or the earrings, but in that third pic, I thought, God, if I only looked that stunning in just a ponytail! She’s aging gracefully.

Jessica is just boring, all ’round.
