Victoria Beckham wants to dress Tilda Swinton: possible or dream on?

Victoria Beckham covers the March issue of Numero Tokyo in what I feel is basically a move to show off how skinny she is since giving birth to Harper Seven last July. Yes, she looks good if you’re into the toothpick look. The excerpts for the accompanying interview thus far are scant but give a bit of insight into the mind behind the image. Victoria really is all image, isn’t she?

On Her Dream Fashion Show Front Row: “My husband. David has never been to any of my shows as I’m incredibly nervous and I need to focus and concentrate, apart from him Tilda Swinton. She’s so striking and I would love to dress her. She’s incredible looking and I love that she seems so confident in herself she doesn’t feel the need to conform.”

On Her Future In Fashion: “We are researching retail and e-commerce opportunities as the moment. I rarely get chance to go out shopping, everything I do is online and I believe that will play a part of the future. Contrary to what people say I have no interest in doing a children’s line; there are lots of people doing that very well already.”

[From Daily Mail]

I totally understand why Victoria has sort of banned David from attendance at her shows thus far. Husbands (especially gorgeous ones) can be so distracting in that way, and Victoria probably also wants to prove that she can do her own thing without him by her side at all times. As far as her desire to dress Tilda, well, I don’t see that happening — mostly because I’m not crazy about Victoria’s line, which only seems tailored to fit women with her precise measurements. Overall, I find the dresses to be unflattering to the celebrities — Kate Winslet, Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, and Demi Moore — who’ve worn Victoria’s designs on the red carpet.

In comparison, do I think that Tilda would leave behind her usual fashion suspects and go for Victoria’s designs? Not a chance in hell.

Tilda Swinton rocks… Victoria is the human equivalent of cotton candy.

  2. Astrid says:

I don’t like any of the VB line either, not very flattering on anyone.

    • Ailine says:

I agree. I feel like you have to be a size -0 or 00 to make the clothes work for you. They also seem cut for a person of stature, so the clothes look weird on short women. I think these celebs are going to look back and cringe. Look how badly Kate Winslet and Jessica Simpson look. They have figures that are too curvy for this look. The look like stuffed sausages.

  3. Delta Juliet says:

Why is she sniffing her armpit? That’s an awful cover….

  4. Madrid says:

I hope she doesn´t and I´m totally agree with you the clothes only flatter women with vb skinny formes, so I dont get why others even try, sure they can afford big mirrors and sport something else fitter

  5. Pont Neuf says:

Well, Tilda has proven that, occasionally, she is able to wear some pretty horrible things… So yes, I am sure that she would wear one of David Beckham’s wife’s hideous potato sacks without a second thought.

I am mystified by Victoria, to be honest. She was the least talented of the incredibly untalented Spice Girls, has a styrofoam personality and people only ever remember her because she is married to the most overrated moderately attractive man in history (with a photoshopped bulge and a whiny voice, to top it all off).

Yet and still, she has managed to become a massive celebrity and build a fashion empire based on those meager “qualities”… Crazy.

I don’t get Tilda Swinton. I really don’t. I’m sure this is telling of my clueless fashion sense (I don’t wear stripes with spots or anything) but people are always going ON about Tilda’s groundbreaking androgynous style, and all I see is an “it” (on purpose, I guess) in drab sheetmetal-esque getups.

As for Vicky, yes, she’s famous for being Mrs. Beckham, a try-hard would-be fashionista. Now, I adore David, he IS (or was, he is getting older and sports stars have a short shelf life) very good at what he does. I’ve watched him play, and he is highly talented. I can’t snark on his voice, it’s a tad squeaky but so is my husband’s and I love him anyway. If I didn’t have the knowledge that he’s stepped out on Vicky razor-sharp collarbone (major faux pas and boner-killer for me), he would consistently top my freebie five list.

I think he’s just yummy. I’m shallow and pathetic.

David Beckham is a god. Own the love LOL!

      • JenJen says:

I’ve read SO many time that he’s cheated on her with fleshier women. I’m decidedly not bone-thin, and if my husband was Beckham and he wanted an inch to pinch, I’d give him two if he promised to grab on once a day.
I could probably abandon my morals for him.

    • Camille (The original) says:

Pont Neuf – I agree completely with what you said about the Beckhams. They are such an over-rated pair.

As for Tilda, well I have to disagree. I think she is amazing and her acting talent gives her a pass from me for some of her at times awful outfits. hehe

    • hstl1 says:

Yes, but that is what makes her so great. I respect anyone that’s got game like that. I need to get started on being wealthy and useless right now!

  6. someone says:

why does she only have pictures of her taken from the profile or angle? i actually do think she’s pretty, it’s just irritating when you only see someone’s side profile because you can’t even see their face? also, i love the jacket she’s wearing on the cover! HATE the second photo her body looks awkward.

  7. mew says:

1st pic: “sniff sniff, eugh… I think I forgot deodorant in the morning.” Idiotic pose.

  8. normades says:

I’ll miss Tilda at the Oscars. *sigh*

  9. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

I think Tilda should go all out and wear Marchessa.

  10. Tiffany says:

Props for putting up the photo of Tilda in the Hugo Boss suit. Just stunning. I can look at that one all day long. As far as Beckham dressing her, I don’t think it will happen because Beckham is well, Beckham. And Tilda is the alien who finds her weird. Just saying.

  11. Jaded says:

OK, that B&W photo has just irrevocably sealed her fate at NEVER getting the cover of US Vogue. Anna Wintour must be hanging in her dungeon like a bat laughing her ass off…

  12. k says:

I have no idea why, but I have a soft spot for Vicky, and I actually like a lot of her dresses. I love that teal coat she is wearing on the cover.

  13. Ent says:

Her arm is in such an awkward position on the cover.

  14. Kim says:

I think Tilda would let Victoria dress her in a heartbeat. Its not like Victorias clothes are super girly.

  15. Sumodo1 says:

Tilda in VB or Marchesa? That’s like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa!

  16. Cathy says:

In all her pictures Victora looks like she’s in a bad mood or has something stuck up her butt. I don’t like that coat she is wearing at all.

  17. Erin says:

is it just me or does that look nothing like her on the cover? it definitely looks like she’s had her nose tweaked again recently. the snout is officially gone!

  18. lw says:

victoria Beckham is like Stella McCartney…marginally talented and a product of rampant nepotism. Keep her far far away from my Tilda!

  19. Sasha says:

You can’t judge Victoria from her Spice Girls days – that’s very unfair. And David Beckham isn’t ‘overrated’.. jesus. He is one of the very best football players in the country and he isn’t really “rated” for anything else (besides his lovely looks) so calling him overrated is a tad silly.

Personally I admire Victoria for actually putting some effort and thought into her fashion line. I’m not going to call her the most talented designer because I know she gets quite a bit of help, but her handbags and dresses are heads and shoulders above the rest of the celeb “designers”. I truly believe Victoria loses sleep over her work and wants to be taken seriously. I think her bags and dresses are extremely classy and a good alternative to the other well established designers!

    • sammib says:

Hear! Hear! Finally something positive! VB does get some help, a friend of mine knows her designer however word is she IS really hands on and does give a sh*t about what goes on with her line. Lets face it, she’d be more involved than say, Jessica Simpson FFS.

Also she’s gorgeous, stylish and her husband is both talented (he wouldn’t STILL be playing if he wasn’t) and possibly the hottest man eva!

    • JenJen says:

Ding! At the very least, Vicky is putting some kind of effort into a “job” other than a reality TV show or something equally useless. Yes, yes, the Spice Girls was rather phony and vapid, but geez, so are most of the “musical acts” of today.

And I don’t get the trashing David thing either. He is ridiculously talented as a soccer player, and he’s a fabulously attractive man (to some of us, anyway).

  20. Kimberly says:

wishful thinking. Victoria’s clothing hasn’t really evolved, but stayed more of the generic geo design of a line drawing that some rich chick had put in cloth. It’s a bored housewife’s hobby that took a life of it’s own by being patronized by friends, but continues to have snickers behind the curtain.

  21. UKHels says:

David Beckham is way overrated as a football player actually – can’t run with the ball, can’t tackle and only has one foot but that’s an aside

her clothes suck, they look really cheap and cost a fortune – all smoke and mirrors just like her

  22. bored says:

Jessica Simpson and Kate Winslett don’t really have the right type of figure for her clothes. It’s scrawny model clothes. Tilda would be able to wear it easily, but why would she?

  23. Mourning the Death of Music says:

Seriously, I think Victoria looked so much healthier back in her Spice Girls days.

  24. abby says:

I just want to say I love them. I’m not crazy about her clothes. But I admire the fact that they are very active in their children’s lives, they are always together as a family and do not appear to have nannies raising their children. I think TS was look fabulous in one of her designs due to her tall/slim frame.

  25. anonymoose says:

Victoria Beckam? THAT LOOKS LIKE BJORK! (on the Numero cover) How disappointing.

Can’t take V seriously as a designer, no matter what fashion victim wears her clothes.

    Bjork, though, is awesome.
