These are just some extra ladies from the Screen Actors Guild Awards that I wanted to cover. Does it matter that they’re all over 40? Does it matter that they all look kind of Botoxy? Does it matter that they’re all very talented and really hot? Does it matter that they were all up for awards for work they did in television? Television: Where over-40 actresses go to do great work once Hollywood thinks they’re “over.” Let’s start with one of my favorites, Kyra Sedgwick, BRENDA LEIGH (!!) from The Closer. Kyra wore this cut-out Emilio Pucci gown that for whatever reason really works on her. I’m mystified as to why I like her in this revealing, sexy gown, in this odd color (in these photos it looks red, but it was more orange on television), with her hair down and everything. I think it’s because she just looks so sexy, right? It just works on her, and her body looks so, so good. The Bacon looks good too!
Next up: Diane Lane and Josh Brolin. Diane was nominated for her TV movie role in Cinema Verite. Diane wore this beautiful David Meister gown, which was a great color for her. She also did her (too long) hair in a ponytail, which was one of the bigger hair trends last night – so many girls did ponytails, it was weird. For Diane, I’m not a big fan of the ponytail, but overall, I thought she looked really good. Plus, I like it when Josh comes out to support her rather than vice versa.
Now, I’ve grown to love Julianna Margulies. I’ve recently gotten into The Good Wife, and she’s doing really wonderful work on that show. In the first two seasons, Julianna looks great – AND like a woman in her 40s. But nowadays, she looks odd to me. At the Globes, she looked like a Botox-Monster, and she’s still looking “off” to me in these photos too. Her gown was Calvin Klein, by the way – it looked almost identical to Katrina Bowen’s, who was on E! right before Julianna. Rough. Oh, and what was with the earrings?!?! Damn it, Julianna. At least her husband is super-cute.

Loved Kyra’s. Diane looked nice,but the dress was plain and kind of looked like I could find that dress at Sears. Don’t like Julianne’s hair,but the dress was an improvement from the last couple of dresses I’ve seen her wear.

Not wild about any of those dresses. The blue color is very flattering on Diane Lane but the cut seems off. Makes her look bulky/boxy in the middle, at least from these few photos. I don’t remember her and her dress while watching the awards show. Maybe that says something?

I love Diane Lane, but she looks drunk or medicated in these pictures. I didn’t watch the event. Did she come across as intoxicated or are those just bad shots?

The CK dress looks like somethine Nicole Kidman would wear, but I don’t like it.

Julianne’s gown was exquisite…lovely – probably my favorite of the night. Kyra’s dress was very sexy, if that’s the look you’re going for. Diane Lane rarely dresses up to her beauty. Her styling in “Under the Tuscan Sun” was GORGEOUS. She should consult with whoever styled her in that movie. It was up to par with her beauty.

I agree-Margulies did not look good at the GG’s or the Emmy’s.
I can’t dispute these three and their beauty, botoxed or not.
I have a special affection for Kyra. She works hard, love her husband’s acting and with her, devoted to her kids, nice to boot.

I’m uncomfortable looking at Julianna’s face. Its so plastic squinty.
Diane’s face looks…really long? Or is that just my computer screen?
Kyra looks good. I’m not sure how I feel about the cut-outs, but I’m not a fan of them in general so that probably doesn’t help my opinion.

I think Kyra was trying to show off her tattoo: ugh. But I did like the dress. Julianna’s dress was very pretty. And while the color was great, the cut of Diane’s dress is totally unflattering.

Julianna Margolis doesn’t look Botox-y AT ALL. Her face looks very expressive and I can see her brow furrowing in the close up.

Julianne is looking straight at the sun hence the weird squinting (see people behind in the crowd wearing sunglasses or doing the same squinting). I think she looks good and she has frown lines so can’t be too botoxed.

I am personally just really tired of looking at Botox-y faces. We saw “The Grey” this weekend and there is a scene where Evangaline Lily smiles and *gasp* she had smile lines gravitating out from her eyes – and I almost cheered because there was a face that showed true expression. I am jaded at comments on how great certain celebrity women over 40 look when there is not a thing on them that hasn’t been altered or starved to look that way. Yeah, I am grumpy, where is my damn coffee???

I like Kyra’s, but I’m never crazy about cut outs. Damn she looks good though!
Diane’s is pretty, I like the color, but not crazy about the fabric. It’s a bit matronly too, but she looks good.

Sincerely nothing against Margulies personally, but those earings look like a pair of…(part of male anatony).
Anyway, she almost looks in pain when she’s smiling in that first pic. But maybe just the sun in the eyes? I hope so.
And I agree that Diane looks great, but the fabric looks so heavy, you’d be sweating 5 minutes in.
And do Kyra and Kevin look like they’re almost the same size (give or take 20lbs) to anyone else? Geez.
That’s all nitpicky, though. Each one looked very nice to me.

Kyra is so small, she has too much hair for her tiny body, esp. as she is looking older now. I’d like to see her cut off 3 inches.

All bad. Kyra is to thin & trying to hard in that dress to look young. Its to young a style for her age. Cut outs dont work past age 25 ish.
Diane, who was so naturally beautiful has jacked with her face to much and looks bad. Shame.

Julianna is beyond beautiful but she needs to change it up a bit. She always seems to wear light, pastel-y colors and with her dark hair and light skin, a bright dress or red would be amazing!

I didn’t like Kyra’s dress. She looked good in it but if there had been more to the back maybe or if her hair had been…less, perhaps I would have liked it better.
Diane’s dress looks like a bridesmaid’s dress. She is so beautiful but she never dresses like it. And the ponytail was unflatteringly long.
I adore Julianna’s hair and makeup here. I also do not see the Botox. I don’t see it on her show, I don’t see it in pics and video of her on the red carpet. As far as the dress, it’s beautiful but it would have been perfect in red. Or dark green. Even blue. Essentially, a COLOR.

Love Kyra Sedgewick & Kevin Bacon so that probably shades my opinion. I think she looks awesome and her husband is the perfect accessory!
Lane’s hair is too long? I don’t think so. If anything, she should grow it out more. Long, well cared for hair looks beautiful on almost any woman.

Kyra looked better than I have ever seen her before! I usually hate cutouts but thought she looked beautiful…like she felt sexy. I love how these women owned it without excess.
