He's also come out strongly against the Defense of Marriage Act. Making marriage legal between two consenting adults would not force any religious groups to perform weddings for gay couples. There are now religious groups who will not marry straight couples for a variety of reasons that go against their particular beliefs. I see a day when marriage licenses are issued to couples gay or straight and then the religious component of the union is left up to the couple.
