Katy Perry in Elie Saab at the Grammys: beautiful, matronly, or too boobtastic?

At the Grammys last night, Katy Perry and her massive rack walked the red carpet in rather uncharacteristic fashion; that is, she was covered up in a pale blue Elle Saab couture dress that would’ve been positively glamorous and appropriate on a smaller-chested woman. However, Katy’s rack refuses to be tamed and is hanging out there regardless. Not that I’m saying that there’s anything wrong with large boobs (or I’d be speaking out against my own, which already annoy me to no end), but Katy should’ve at least worn a proper bra here. Hell, maybe she actually is wearing a good bra, and this dress just wasn’t made for her body type — it does look like it’s taking quite a strain in the boob area.

Katy also paired the blue dress with her preexisting electric blue hair (with faux-dark roots), electric pink lipstick, and too much fake tanner. The overall effect is quite cheap, but that’s the general Katy Perry vibe anyway, so at least she scores some points for consistency.

Then there was Katy’s performance, which started out with an imitation Perry (so obvious) giving a rendition of “E.T.” before the power went out. Shocking! Of course, the real Katy (if there is one) was dangling far above the stage and prepared to unleash her new single, “Part of Me,” which seemed specifically chosen to point a glaring finger in the direction of one Russell Brand (who was probably at home and either rolling his eyes or doing yoga). This morning, Kaiser and I were discussing the awfulness of Katy’s lyrics, and Kaiser (rightfully) thinks Katy’s playing the post-divorce game by metaphorically shouting, “Sisterhood, I was used by a bad man!” Such a classic pity game. Now because I enjoy making fun of Katy’s lyrics, here are some of the original lyrics to “Part of Me”:

“You chewed me up and spit me out. Like I was poison in your mouth.

“Now look at me, I’m sparkling. A firework, a dancing flame. You won’t ever put me out again. I’m glowing, oh woah oh. You can keep the dog from me I never liked him anyway. In fact you can keep everything. Yeah, yeah. Except for me.”

Except that during this Grammy performance, Katy changed the “dog” line to “So you can keep your diamond ring, it don’t mean nothing anyway.” Yep, this is the chick that signed her divorce papers with a heart and a happy face. Yet I will say that Katy’s body looked pretty amazing onstage:

Also and just as a reminder, Russell didn’t take “everything” from Katy except maybe a chunk of her ego, which will bounce back in no time. He certainly didn’t take any of her money, and now TMZ has a new update to that story too:

Katy Perry and Russell Brand never entertained the idea of signing a prenup — and if they could do it all over again … they wouldn’t have changed a thing, sources close to the couple tell TMZ.

According to sources, Katy and Russell’s marriage happened so fast, they never really had the opportunity to summon their lawyers and hash out a prenup … nor did either really believe they needed one.

We’re told both felt comfortable one wouldn’t screw the other in the event of a divorce — they both knew where the other person stood on money, life, religion … everything.

TMZ broke the story … Russell refused to accept $20 million of Katy’s money he was entitled to as part of the divorce — exactly half the money she made during the course of their marriage.

Sources tell us, Russell was never a materialistic person and never spent much — he never got into entertainment for the money.

As one source put it, “Russell is a very simple person who doesn’t need much to make him happy.”

The source adds, “He would never take money that [Katy] earned. That’s not Russell. And if it was the other way around, Katy wouldn’t have taken it either. They respect each other too much.”

Where is Hollywood and what have you done with it?!?!

[From TMZ]

Isn’t it amusing how both Katy and Russell apparently knew “everything” about each other before marriage except that they were totally wrong for each other as a couple? And let’s not get into “respect” when Katy is clearly trashing Russell at the Grammys. Still, I can buy the part about Russell not being into money, for he even admits that he doesn’t entertain for the cash but for the associated notoriety. As he states in Booky Wook 2, “Without fame my whole persona doesn’t make sense. Without fame my haircut just looks like mental illness.” This totally gels with Russell’s public portrayal of himself; over the weekend, he was even photographed barefoot in the street while walking to his car. Yet he took great care to don one of his dodgy scarves. Priorities, people.

Now back to Katy and her (probably) teenaged fans:

I like her music for the most part, but that song she performed just didn’t have the spark that many of her other songs do. That blue hair is ridiculous.

  2. Emma says:

That thing she did where she broke out of the glass cage? Eric Saade did the exact same thing for Eurovision Song Contest last year. Ugh.

    • fancyamazon says:

Also, I didn’t see the performance, so have no idea how close this is (and have no desire to watch the video either) but didn’t Miley Cyrus do the whole cage thing recently in one of her videos as well? “I can’t be tamed” or “you can’t be tames” or whatever?

  3. Rainey says:

She’s awful. Worst performance of the night after the disaster that was Nicki Minaj. I don’t feel bad for her for being an idiot and getting married when she shouldn’t have–won’t be buying any whiny songs about it either. The best thing about the Grammys was Adele sweeping, and the second best part was that Katy “Boobs” Perry won nothing. Yesss!

  4. BK says:

    She looks trashy and insecure.

The whole “Look at my chest – I need your attention, and I’ll throw in some blue hair just to make sure” thing is not good.

She does not need to flaunt her body – all she has to do is focus on her music and downplay her physicality and fans will flock, because the girl can sing.

    • MAMAKOWALSKA says:

There’s not really alot of superstar female pop artists who aren’t doing the same……… Beyonce, Rhianna, Britney, etc. etc. etc. you have to be a dancing soft porn star to succeed in the music video industry today. She’s in keeping with her peers.

  5. Naye in VA says:

Yea that seemed pretty tacky. She is actively trying to be an ass, first with the happy face and then a whole song? at the grammys? way to take the high road Katy. Way to go.

    • Tiffany says:

I agree. I haven’t been a fan of her music because I think her voice is very shrill and skreechy, but singing that song to capitalize on your divorce is just soooooo tacky and pathetic! Not to mention she sounded horrible while doing it.

    • Kara Ann says:

Would you believe that what you and I see as Katy making an ass out of herself, she sees as “girl power”? I really think that she believed that Brand wouldn’t divorce her. Also, I think the fact that he is handling it so maturally makes her furious. Katy would love, love, love being in the middle of some trashy he said/she said DRAMA. Brand really took away the opportunity for her to capitalize on this divorce away by using good, old-fashioned values like keeping quiet and not asking for one penny of her money.

I was disgusted by her performance and the lyrics to her song. I’m sure that she’s hoping some of the aftermath write-ups will be about Katy sending Russell a message. Too bad the message she sent was that she is an immature ass…something I suspect her already knows all too well and thanks to Katy’s performance it’s confirmed for the rest of us too!

  6. lucy2 says:

I would have liked it more without the blue hair, and yes, with a better bra. It’s a pretty gown.

  7. Franny says:

I like her blue hair when it is all blue, and when she wears it in her bob like she did over the weekend. I think thats fun. I think this look here with the green roots from trying to dye them blue, and all together make her looks like a smurf. I don’t love it. I think it would been better had the dress been sleeveless/short sleeved, with her hair down.

I thought they song was really awkward and inappropriate, but I guess now that Russell has signed the papers, she doesn’t have to play nice so he doesn’t take all of her money.

  8. Michelle says:

As soon as I saw her, I said “your boobs are droopy!” I love the color of that dress but it’s all wrong for her body type. She needs some support!

  9. Lis says:

I don’t mind the dress – I never noticed her chest in this dress until people pointed it out.

The hairstyle, however, is just bad. I like the blue hair.

But the style is dated, and doesn’t suit her face.

  10. ClumsyMe says:

I’m thinking this dress would’ve looked good on Swifty and vice versa. Her performance sucked and as I’ve said before major camel toe! I’m sorry I just could not get over it.

    • Natasha says:

I absolutely agree about Swift and Katy swapping. The gold dress would have been amazing on Katy with her natural hair color. I also was thinking that the dress Carrie Underwood wore would have looked great on Katy with her blue hair and it had a higher neck which would have been more flattering. As a girl with larger breast I know better than to wear that deep U-neck style it makes them look saggy saggy. A higher neckline and/or v-neck would have looked so much better

  11. kc says:

i like her outfit. she looks nice in it. there have been worse outfits than this. she isn’t bare naked or anything. it is hard to keep going after a divorce. i think she truly cared for him.

  12. lilly says:

She reminds me of Marge Simpson

  13. Michelle says:

I think she looks great! I like the blue hair and her breats look awesome – wish mine looked that good.

  14. paola says:

I love how Adele and Katy have gone through separations in their own way. Now Katy after this comparison, please, go and HIDE!

  15. QQ says:

She looks like the fairy godmother from Shrek

And please the angryhurt woman act when her own boozy tacky attention whore antics were the demise of her marriage an dude didnt tale shit from her?!

Girl. Sit your blue ass crimped haired self DOWN

  16. bea says:

I agree – a scoop neck with large breasts is never flattering. If she had turned the dress around and put the deep V in the front, it would have been better.

I don’t get her whole “vibe” – it’s a weird mix of teeny bopper (how old is she?) and couture…….

She should think twice about bad mouthing him (allegedly) in lyrics – he’s pretty sharp – I’m sure he’ll come back with something far witter than that blather……

  17. sasa says:

    Holy godmother from Shrek, anyone?

  18. sundaygal says:

This would look great on Helen Mirren.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

That was my first thought exactly! Change the neckline just a bit and this could be the perfect Oscars dress for Helen Mirren!

  19. francesca says:

She is channeling Alice from the Brady Bunch.

  20. Tiffany27 says:

Between the lyric change and happy face on divorce papers I’m now convinced Katy Perry’s life is just an extended episode of My Sweet 16. She looks like she escaped from Arkham Asylum.

  21. Samigirl says:

That top picture against the teal background…with the blue hair, blue dress…it hurt my eyes. SHE looks teal, and it’s not cute. I really love the dress, but I’d love it better on someone else, I think. Her orange-y skin, ridiculous hair and makeup…I need this dress on someone who knows how to let the dress do the work…someone more natural! 🙂

  22. lisa says:

Beautiful dress but not for Katy.

  23. Cathy says:

I like the dress, but you are right, her boobs are to big for her to look really good in it.

  24. cait says:

I can’t stand her. I was shocked when I read the lyrics to that peacock song. I am not easily offended, but the STUPIDITY of that song offended me deeply. I like racy lyrics, but those were just painfully bad. I guess she makes lots of money, but her music is embarassing. I am shocked that Brand ever had anything to do with her. IMO, he’s funny, handsome and clever. She is just an ass.

  25. Stacy Dresden says:

That is a beautiful dress on an immature, selfish brat. I cannot believe she had the audacity to sing that song publicly so soon after the divorce announcement. She should be grateful he decided to forego his claim to her earnings during their marriage and show a little kindness to her ex. Her behavior makes me hope Russell revisits the idea of publishing a tell-all.

  26. ab says:

that dress is so gorgeous, but I’m not liking it on her. I would have loved to see it at the oscars.

  27. The Original Mia says:

I actually thought she looked rather nice, even if I’m not a fan of the blue hair & faux roots.

  28. Day says:

So, when she covers her chest COMPLETELY she is still trying to scream for attention? Just because her tits are so huge that it’s the only thing you can focus on doesn’t mean she is putting them on full display. Even a decent bra couldn’t tame those things. She didn’t show up with her breast hanging out all over the place; thus, giving you nothing to bitch about so you need to create something to whine about. Same goes for this so called RB diss. As much as people(mainly this site) are trying to create drama btwn these two, I find it admirable how well they are handling this. They are annoying but at least they know how to handle a divorce.

    • whosnatch says:

Well exactly. The divorce was apparently as easy and drama-free as any situation like that can be. Then one week later she gets in front of millions and sings about a man who used her and treated her horribly, but she is strong again. The issue here is she is doing it solely for publicity and it is completely hypocritical since their PR teams went to great lengths to make it known their divorce was amicable.

  29. Jaded says:

What a cheap jab at someone who has acted like a gentleman through the break-up. He’s been a total class act and she’s been her usual self – vapid, self-obsessed and immature. Go away Katy.

  30. whosnatch says:

The dress is actually constructed to accentuate her chest that much. If you notice there is a corseted piece around her ribcage (it’s the only part of the dress that isn’t opaque) which cinches in her waist while the bust is left with no structure whatsoever, it is simply the thin blue fabric. I think her breasts are meant to hang out unimpeded.

  31. neve says:

    disney villain vibes right here.

  32. Sandra says:

A beautiful dress on a beautiful girl (showing my age here, though, when I complain about the colour of her hair – it’s just ugly), but I kept thinking how lovely it would look on Helen Mirren. It’s not matronly by any stretch of the imagination, but I believe this dress would be better suited on a more mature woman (physical maturity, mental, what have you…)

  33. Stubbylove says:

The one thing I will give her is she has great skin. Other than that, gotta agree with @Lilly – she looks like Marge Simpson on the red carpet and her performance last night was a joke.

  34. Amy says:

Katy’s dress is beautiful! However on her it just seems so cheap. Not sure if it’s the makeup, the electric blue hair (which clashes with the dress), but it just looks bad on her.

  35. TXCinderella says:

I like the blue dress, I think it’s pretty, but I think it needed a sparkly belt instead. The blue hair is stupid. I wish Katie would quit with the colored hair. It’s fine for videos, but not for an awards ceremony.

  36. Wow says:

    Katy’s body is AMAZING.

    Absolutely amazing body.

It’s her right to sing about her ex and how she feels.

That’s her job, by the way.

They were only together for a couple of months, and no kids were involved, plus he has more money than most of us will ever have, so why should he take any of her money?

HE got millions of his own.
Of course he is into money. and fame.

I don’t understand why are you against her in this divorce thing.

  37. Cecila says:

U can tell she’s hurt by what Russel did I think her looks good and the dress awesome matches her eyes but the song was inappropriate especially since Russel was classy about the proceding of the divorce and not taking half but again song not cool u can tell she hurt

  38. MAMAKOWALSKA says:

I love the dress, and she’s really such a lovely girl, just hate the never ending coloring and frying of her oh so harsh hair………..it looked so pretty long and black.

  39. maemay says:

Everything just seems to be a “branding” moment in an effort to get wall to wall attention and coverage….yet people are sick of Adele?

  40. Momo says:

For a stunt marriage they chose well.

  41. Ana says:

Thank you, I didn’t notice the boobs until I read it here, yesterday I was too focused on looking at the fabric and understanding what they were talking about regarding the “beautiful color and how it sparkles as she walks by” I am paraphrasing Kelly O.

I have to say some dresses look way better in pictures than on T.V. same with Katy’s skin, it was too much but she definitely looks less orange here than she did on screen.

I am so silly, when they showed her in that glass box, at the beginning I though it was Lady Gaga and they were going to have a duet! 😛

Singing that about Russell was uncalled for…

  42. eva says:

faux roots? nothing faux about them!

  43. HappyJoyJoy says:

    She’s so tacky.

  44. jamminatorr says:

No no no. These pictures don’t do it justice. That B***** was ORANGE last night. To the point that I actually checked the settings on my brand new LED. She actually blended into the red/orange chairs they were sitting on. She looked soooooo nasty – like if you brushed up against her you’d get something on you. Not to mention the hair looks cheap.

  45. Justalark says:

I’m not crazy about the cartoonish blue hair, but I actually love the gown and think Katy’s body looks AMAZING in it! I don’t mind the neckline or sleeves at all. Could it be that we forget how natural boobs (vs. bolt-ons) actually look?

In fact, I think many women who wear sleeveless, formal dress do not have the kind of upper arms that should be exposed/emphasized, and I hate dresses that bare so much deep cleavage (KK, I’m looking at you!) that make breasts look like buttocks!

This dress is refreshing and uniquely lovely…

  46. Happy21 says:

He bod rocked during her performance. Her performance though was TERRIBLE!! Even my boyfriend who doesn’t know Katy Perry from a hole in the wall said “Why is she even on this show, she can’t sing?”

I thought the song was really quite tacky and while she isn’t my favourite I usually find her cute and quirky, she has lost some points with me by acting like an immature child.

  47. serena says:

She looked good, I mean the dress was beautiful it was her hairstyle that ruined it all.

  48. Ainsley says:

You could put the nicest dress on her and it would look cheap because she is cheap. She looks like a dumb blow-up doll. She can’t sing and has no stage presence. At award shows, I’ve noticed that she is always introduced by some model or actress. Never a musician. Probably because no musician could praise her and keep a straight face.

  49. Anne says:

    This the runway version: http://shows.sight-management.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Arizona-Muse-for-Elie-Saab-Couture-spring-2012b.jpg

And considering it looks fine on Arizona here, I indeed must blame it on the boobs, they’re just too big for this particular dress. She still kinda surprised me by looking rather respectful and decent because she usually looks like a walking toy shop on crack.
I am sick of all these Minaj-GaGa-Perry types that don’t know how to dress in a way that is not screaming for attention, they all need to go. Yawn.

  50. DemoCat827 says:

I love the dress, but on her it looks a tad askew. Maybe it’s the boobage; maybe it’s the blue hair. I don’t know.

  51. Kim says:

VERY unflattering dress on her. Not made for her curvy figure at all. Bow to close under the boobs making them appear saggy & not flattering to stomach area. She needed Spanx or or better yet another dress entirely.

  52. alibeebee says:

I want this dress!! i loved the entire elie saab spring line this year.. but the dress did not do her justice or rather she didn’t do the dress any favors.. hard to tell..

  53. mew says:

    One word: Horrid.

  54. Madison says:

The blue hair is awful, the dress isn’t so great either and she’s really can’t sing, awful performance at the grammy’s.

  55. Lady Satan says:

I’m with @lilly – she looks like she’s doing a BAD Marge Simpson impression.

I think Marge would have carried that dress off better than slouchy, needs-a-better-bra KP.

  56. Asli says:

I so thought that was a body-double! It was so obvious. We never saw her face ONCE. Damn, Is that even allowed?

  57. HoustonGrl says:

Katy and I are the same age, so in this case I feel entitled to say grow UP!

She is trying so hard to seem edgy that she ends up as a caricature of herself – as any other poser rebel. The blue hair is sooo cliche, and it really doesn’t look good. As for the fake tan, boobs on a platter, and trashy make-up…I think Adele proved last night that most of us are ready to move on from the Bimbo-dominated music era.

  58. MK Martin says:

This dress is better in white.

  59. JustJen says:

To put a slightly different spin on the divorce thing: Russell has moved on. That’s why he appears so “mature”. He’s mourned the loss and is in the final stage, acceptance. Katy is still attached, she still has a need to lash out at her ex. She hasn’t accepted it.

That’s just my take on it — she’s not appealing to the sistahood…she’s doing what so many artists before her have done, singing about her pain. (Alanis? Kelly Clarkson? Pink? Even your precious Adele?)

For those of you trashing her behavior, including Kaiser and Bedhead, are you really trying to say that you’ve never wanted to give an ex the finger? To make him regret it? If that’s the case, I’m so very proud of you.

As someone who’s going through something incredibly painful right now, I can relate to wanting to show up at the Grammys with blue hair in a tiny little outfit, skipping across the stage singing that song. Hell, if my ex didn’t live in another state, I’d consider showing up outside his work with a blue wig and a boom box.

  60. crys737 says:

typical scorpio. cant let go or grow up. No offense to the scorpios out there; my best friend is a scorpio. 🙂

    • Tiffany27 says:

Don’t yell at me, but in my experience Scorpios are crazed and scary.

      • aprayerforthewildatheart says:

I’m a Scorpio and not offended in the least. Life would be so boring without a little crazy now and then. As far as crazed and scary goes, I’ll proudly own it. 😉

As for letting go IDK, I’ve always been the first to walk away, and I don’t think anyone WANTS to grow up. lol!

  61. Sarah says:

Can’t decide about the dress but love the hair.

  62. Mari says:

Lovely dress and great boody.her boobs are far from bad… Now on the other hand there is lindsey lohan’s chest…

  63. Camille (The original) says:

That dress would have looked great on say Helen Mirren. Not so much on KP.

  64. Mouse says:

Agreed, the word cheap definitely comes to mind looking at this.

  65. RJ says:

I love this dress, and I don’t mind that her gals sag a bit in it. I do hate the combo of the dress and hair colour. And I thought her dig at her ex was tacky and immature.

  66. G. says:

I love blue hair, but Katy can’t pull it off. She just can’t. Her personality isn’t good for it and it just BUGS me.

Hate the dress, hate the styling, hate everything. She needs to fire her stylist.

  67. paranormalgirl says:

She needs to stand up straight and stop slouching.

  68. Newmrs says:

I dont think her breasts are large..medium really. Feel bad for her hair.

  69. danielle says:

    I liked the dress.

  70. honestiago says:

Her chest looks a bit out of place. Definitely needs a better bra. Otherwise, the dress is lovely. I wish someone I actually respect had worn it.

Does the sash/ribbon thing around her waist look too tight to anyone else? (Esp. in the first three pictures.) It’s making her stomach look fat. KP is many things, but fat is not one of them.

  71. Dredz says:

The dress is gorgeous, pretty color, but she would have looked better with her hair down

  72. SamiHami says:

Hair and make up are awful, dress could be wonderful with more support. The earrings though-awesome!

  73. Lisa B. says:

The whole look was a disaster. Not that I expect a lot of fashion sense coming from this girl but this was worse than I thought.

    First, the hair.

I don’t mind the color (I had blue hair myself and I was thinking of getting some pink in my blonde locks now), but the up-do didn’t do wonders for her. And it made the roots super noticeable.

The dress was not the best choice for her either. Too matronly for someone with her bubbly image. And WHY BLUE, FOR GOD’S SAKE? There’s too much blue everywhere.

To be honest, I didn’t notice the boobs until you guys pointed them out, hahaha. But after you notice them, it does become very distracting.

And the lipstick. Ugh. I like the color, but it’s just TOO MUCH for someone with black eyeliner and blue hair.

  74. Lulu says:

I think that her look was a tribute to the Shrek movie:

    http://gfx1.fdb.pl/16215

Mrs Godmother alias Katy Perry 😉
