Angelina Jolie in a grey-blue cashmere gown in Berlin: beautiful & appropriate?

Sigh… she’s not going to wear a jewel tone, is she? Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie last night in Berlin at the Cinema for Peace Gala. Her cashmere dress/gown is Ralph & Russo… and I do like it. I would like it more if it was rich, deep sapphire, but this grey-blue isn’t bad. The fit is lovely though – Angelina always looks worlds better when she’s wearing something tailored for her figure. I especially love her makeup and her earrings here – she looks fresh and elegant.

Jolie won an award at the gala – they recognize films that are “directed against human rights abuses, war and genocide.” Which sums up In the Land of Blood and Honey. You can see more pics here, at The Mail. Brad looked super-proud of her. Which brings up an interesting question – will Angelina write and direct again? She was asked that in Berlin, and her response was… interesting.

Angelina Jolie says she’s not yet sure whether she will follow her directorial debut on the Bosnian war with another film on such serious material — but she has already written a script focusing on the conflict in Afghanistan.

Jolie, who presented her movie “In the Land of Blood and Honey” at the Berlin International Film Festival, told reporters Monday that even her husband Brad Pitt is unfamiliar with her Afghanistan idea.

She says: “I did write something on Afghanistan. Nobody’s seen it yet. Brad hasn’t seen it. It’s hidden. So I don’t know how very good it is, but it’s been a pleasure to write.”

Meantime, she says her next project is playing the villain in a Disney film — something she says her kids are much happier about.

[From Access Hollywood]

A movie about Afghanistan? Hopefully she won’t step on Kathryn Bigelow’s toes – Bigelow has a movie in the pipeline about Osama bin Laden, Pakistan and Afghanistan. I bet Jolie’s story is about the refugee situation there – the refugee camps on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan are still one of the largest refugee crises in the world. While I applaud Jolie’s efforts and her commitments… I want her to do something light. A Disney movie sounds great. She’s going to be playing Maleficent in the (Tim Burton-directed?) retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

Here are some photos of Angelina at the Berlin Film Festival premiere of The Lady several days ago – I completely missed this set of photos, and for that I apologize. But I don’t feel too bad – these pics of Angelina kind of suck. She’s wearing a Miguelina (sack) dress that does nothing for her figure. Meh. The Lady is about Aung San Suu Kyi, by the way.

I really like this dress! When you are the director of a film, you dress differently than if you are the star of the film. I think she nailed it.

  2. LadyJane says:

    A bit botoxy?

    • Tapioca says:

A bit? Somewhere Nicole Kidman is sitting at home thinking, “F**k me, those two have overdone it!!”

I watch Brad presenting an award at the Baftas and the guy couldn’t move his forehead at all.

But I like the dress. Full-length on Angie is all of our friends…

    • helvetica says:

I’m not sure about Botox, but her face looks really oily and shiny.
It’s not only in this photo set, but also another.

      • ZenB!tch says:

I thought botox caused shine. AJ wasn’t shiny before this year. Nicole has been super shiny since she’s started ‘toxing.

    • Emma says:

I wish people would stop saying(including CB) that Jolie had botox. In close ups, she clearly has wrinkles on her forehead and in interviews she has a tendency to raise her eybrows/scrunch her forehead a lot.

Actually, Jolie has quite a bit of wrinkles (crow’s feet and fine lines too), but her skin is amazing so it’s not obvious unless the camera is right up in her face.

  3. Bite me says:

Love the picture of her with Luc Besson

  4. embertine says:

This dress needs to get into my closet stat. I, naturally, would look like a sack of well-tailored potatoes in it, but neverhteless, this needs to be mine.

  5. Anahata says:

Yes, she’s beautiful. Blah. Blah. Blah. Sorry, she broke up that marriage whether you like it or not (and yes, it’s still indefensible). And she’s boring and hasn’t acted well since Girl,Interrupted. So bored of her. Can we please see posts on interesting and highly talented women such as Carey Mulligan.

    • Hootysgram says:

She always looks so smug…her and her boyfriend! Never looks completely put together..like she walked out forgetting to put on accessories! Her choices in clothing SUCK most of the time…When it’s a decent gown…the tattoos ruin the look…

    • Katherine says:

Aw, the smell of defamation first thing in the morning.

Or is it so early I’ve failed to catch the sarcasm. 😉

    • Ruby Red Lips says:

Ladies, she is beautiful and working to do good to raise awareness of others suffering in poorer countries. She has given a good home to many children who wouldn’t have had a fair life.

Re the whole AJ/BP/JA – obv Brad had no choice or free will in leaving Jennifer, as soon as Angie appeared he was suckered in (not) & if all had been rosy in Brad/Jenn world then nothing would have ended their marriage

Just thought I’d offer an alternative to your views!

    • T.C. says:

It’s YEARS later and you still haven’t moved on? Do you still think about your highschool boyfriend too and what should have been? Move on sister.

    • vicky says:

      Completely agree!

    • storyteller says:

What do you care? And SEVEN YEARS later you’re still moaning about it? Good Lord.

    • Miranda says:

Biggest fame whore in the business.
Her and Brad are both mediocre when it comes to talent. The only reason they are famous is because of their constant PR game. I really wish they would go away, and give room to people who have more class, talent and intelligence.
      Love Carey Mulligan BTW!

  6. mk says:

Why something light? Our entire existence is focused on lightness of heart, or whatever, but only if we don’t have to think. On the other hand, there are more regions of the world on fire right now that could use a little more focus other than the middle east. And I’d really like to see a Dramedy set in these situations. Do you think Mel Brooks is still working?

  7. mln76 says:

I actually almost love the dress except the color is just a bit too dull…Anyone who is actually interested in her and not just obsessed with bashing….she said previously that the story had something to do with the plight of women in the US military as well as women refugees.

    • Katherine says:

Min is right. Jolie has talked about her Afghanistan based story. It touches on the fact that so many women in war torn areas are technically considered non-combatants yet suffer the same devastating and oft fatal consequences of combatants – without the attendant benefits of having served in combat naturally.

The story involves US military women and female Afghanistan refugees.

    • dj says:

@mln76 – women in the military. Finally, that sounds interesting. I am glad anyone will shed light on that subject. It seems like time that we all accept Angelina’s style is classic, businesslike (in many senses) and a little lackluster at times. That being said, I think she wants to be taken seriously and remember she has to schlepp those clothes around globally. She is a savvy traveller and wants a palette of interchangeable pieces. That’s how I pack too. Love her!

  8. Katherine says:

Luc Besson really, really, really wants her for his movie. Sweet.

Actually Jolie won 2 awards. The award for “Most Valuable Film” and an honor for Blood and Honey being a film against genocide and war – not sure of the award’s title.

Besson received the “International Human Rights Film Award” for his film “The Lady” about the Burmese Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

The dress is the least important thing about this night.

  9. samira677 says:

It’s a nice dress. It’s not as if this is a huge event. I love how everybody including Jennifer and friends say there wasn’t an affair but her fans insist there was. Move on and grow up.

    • Emma says:

Jennifer never said there wasn’t an affair outright…she implied a lot of things like “there was stuff going on I wasn’t aware of” and “I choose to trust my ex husband”

In any case, screw their personal lives. Actors are supposed to do their job and act and Jolie clearly can, while unfortunately Aniston is decent at best.

      • cameron says:

“I choose to believe my husband” not ex.
She referred to Brad as her husband up until 2009.

  10. Bermuda Blues says:

That lacey dress is terrible. The grey is something I would never chose, but I completely understand why Angelina was drawn to it. She loves her business casual, and the dress is like “business casual goes to a gala.”

Any word on whether Maleficent will be live action or animation? I picture Angelina’s Maleficent to be very much like her depiction of Grendel’s Mother in Beowolf.

  11. Ida says:

I really like the dress. I wish it was a deeper hue though, something like charcoal or navy blue. Still though, lovely dress and it suits her.

  12. Rhea says:

The blue and grey dress looks like something I would wear to work if it shorten to my knee. I was hoping she would wear color or something that would make this more interesting and not office lady-like but then I saw a peep of her killer heels & feel much better…ahhh…the femme fatale is still somewhere inside 🙂 Love her black shoes too and the black dress’s not that bad. The length make her knees looked much better.

  13. val says:

She broke up a marriage, blah, blah, blah. Get over it! Aniston has moved on…many times indeed, so GET OVER IT, sheesh. You would think that she was the first person to ever get dumped. And it really has been over SEVEN years. Here is to keeping this triangle crap alive and well.

    • Anahata says:

Well, she did. And I don’t give a rats azz about jennifer Anniston. I’m just tired of these kind of women being held up as an example of what to aspire to. I wouldn’t want to know her, I wouldn’t care to socialize with her, and she would not be a friend. Why do we as women consistently beat this into our own heads that beauty is the be-all and end-all despite horrible behavior? Yes she does a lot of charity work worldwide. Good. But she’s still a nasty person inside. I’m glad she’s trying to make up for some of it.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

Do you really care that much about their personal lives? This keeps coming up for me. The seemingly personal investment in these people.
No one knows what really happened. Just as you don’t know about horrible stuff other stars have done. Who gives a rat’s ass?

She looks good here, but I hate the overly shiny face thing.

      • T.C. says:

She is a very talented actress and humanitarian that’s why she is getting coverage. No one is telling you to cheat with a married man. Are we supposed to shun her and make her wear a giant A on her clothes? Grow up and move on. Everyone involved has. I don’t understand people still stuck on this issue, what does it have to do with you?

  14. lucy2 says:

I like the dress but agree a deeper color would have been even better.

  15. mk says:

    1) Tattoos don’t ruin anything, for anyone. They are not leaping off her body and assaulting you with their violence.

    2) She never moves her face. It’s more likely some rare snake venom she gets injected. Saint Angie Jo doesn’t ‘tox like the rest of the plebs ‘tox.

  16. Mara says:

Love the shoes in the last pictures both looks are lovely she knows how to dress that’s for sure .

  17. gag says:

She gets all these “awards” because people want her and bead to show up at their events. Never heard of these awards. Dont care. Not impressed. Yawn.

  18. NM6804 says:

    – I like the dress, very appropriate and a nice cut indeed although it makes her look older.

    – Make-up and hair are great! I love the earrings too but I love any kind of earring :).

    – Why does she always wear nude shoes? Those are nude shoes right or peachy creamy? She sure loves that.

    – Another script? When did she find the time?! Seriously, did she read Stephen King’s advice on writing because she’s awfully quick. Sorry, I just don’t buy that. It just can’t be finished already and if it is I doubt that the story is good enough to put on pellicule. One thing that pops up quite a few times is the weak story-telling skills of Jolie for B&H and the weird relationship between the main characters (I’ve read somewhere it’s ridiculous and also some dialogue between the soldiers that was considered hilarious). Maybe put a bit more thought and time into a project instead of trying to come across as some sort of superwoman who seemingly does it all. It’s not like B&H was such a success…I definitely need to see B&H.

  19. Katherine says:

It does pay to schmooze – in her capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the German Federal Ministry of Development presented her with a million dollar check for Bosnian refugee facilities.

  20. T.C. says:

She looks RADIANT. I actually really love the grey dress even the color. Very beautiful woman and for once she doesn’t look painfully skinny (because she is covered).

  21. val says:

Hmmm, if anyone has given her the “Mother Theresa” title, it is you people. Think about it, she has never once denied her reckless behavior in the past. She still talks about how self destructive she was and how glad she is to have overcome those behaviors. I did not mention looks in my last post. It is not about that. Many people fall in love and realize that the person they thought they knew is not the person they actually know. It goes both ways, maybe Jennifer no longer wanted Brad as well.
It is a shame that people continue to victimize her and make her seem desperate. It seems that it is her fans and the righteous women who has never made mistakes in her lives that seem to be the most angry.
I think they fit each other well in various ways, and that is what matters. She has been doing charity work since her 20s, so why should she not be proud of herself and hold her head high?
Well, I too am a confident and well accomplished woman, on my way to New York University School of Law. If I happen to be tall, thin and attractive as well, that is not my fault. However, I will be darn sure to hold my head high against those who choose to stereotype simply because of the way I carry myself.

  22. Zelda says:

I almost never comment on Jolie threads, because people get insane up in here.

But I always like how she dresses. And I don’t like wearing colours, either. MAybe that’s why. But I feel too…something…in them.

  23. Occasion Approrpriate says:

Yes, this dress is very appropriate for the event and she is wearing it well. The pictures of Brad & Angie at the table are very sweet and super inspirational for Valentine’s Day- happy Valentine’s Day to all!

  24. olivia says:

She looks like a tooth paste tube in that dress.

  25. Franny says:

I Love the hemline+shoe combination of the black dress – but only someone with very skinny, non-cankle legs could pull it off.

I love the way Brad is holding her close in that picture of them together. They look very comfortable together.

  26. serena says:

She’s going to be a great Maleficient, I can’t wait!

  27. mememe says:

She looks fantastic. Fashion is mostly confidence and attitude. She’s never lacking either.

  28. Cleo says:

That grey dress is not easy to pull off at all. It’s the kind of thing Diane Kruger WISHES she could wear.

  29. Cleo says:

That second dress is very Winona Ryder.

  30. Eve says:

It’s a lovely dress and it suits her. However, I think it’s the kind of dress we usually see shorter (not as a gown, I mean).

LOVE her shoes in the last two pictures.

  31. Maritza says:

I love when she wears dresses with sleeves, she looks healthier and she covers her tattoos. She looks so sophisticated and ladylike.

  32. j says:

Love it. Usually the Jolie has no waist/hips, but this makes her look like she has a great figure. Very flattering.

  33. hopeso says:

I like the shoes that she is wearing with the pencil dress, but i love that shoes in the last picture

  34. Miffits says:

Good for her. I’m glad a woman that is (mainly) looked up to by adult and teenage women alike is doing something intellectually substantial such as writing, directing and raising awareness.

She can’t dress for sh*t and her washed out hair colour will be the death of me but she’s a great role model (and for any die hard Aniston fans, before you spit coffee on yourself trying to shriek ‘homewrecker’ if you bothered to look past the tit-for-tat love triangle of three people you’ve never met and mean nothing to maybe you’d accomplish something to).

    • Anahata says:

Ugh. Look I don’t hate this woman. I don’t even really care. But every time I come to this site there are always all these gushy articles and posts about her and for gods sakes:
      A. She’s boring as hell, mkay?
      B. She’s a bitch – hello?
      C. There are plenty, and I mean PLENTY of other, more interesting and talented actresses out there.
Done with this and bored to death.

      • Miffits says:

        Cool story.

But I’m actually one of the few non gushers oh here. I was merely saying at least she’s doing something remotely intelligent.

      • Liry says:

I do not like Leann, so I skip her posts. What I cannot do, is to tell the Celebitches what to post.

      • Noi says:

that’s your PERSONAL opinion why do you think others think like you?
you don’t like her fine you don’t care lie.
who takes time out of their day to post on a post about someone they can careless about.
        a)again thats only your opinion
b)how is she a b*tch to you do tell
c)that maybe true but do they all sell like her?

  35. Jnet says:

what a beautiful soul, but for christ sakes..eat a sammich please! in some of those she looks like she could be one of the refugees she fights for! her FOREARMS are VEINY on TOP…not good!

    • jes_sayin says:

In that 2nd picture… WOW. Major veins popping out.

Those arms and wrists REALLY look anorexic. Scary.

  36. storyteller says:

The (grey) dress is great. She looks lovely.

  37. Jackson says:

Really like that dress and I think it suits her quite well. No pregnancy rumors after wearing that one.

  38. Delta Juliet says:

That dress is beautiful…I think she will be a wonderful Malificent!

  39. apsutter says:

    She looks absolutely radiant.

  40. Isa says:

I like the dress but thought it was too long for the style. I expected it to end at her knee but it didn’t. But it is probably cold.
And I like the black dress.

  41. RobN says:

Step on Kathryn Bigelow’s toes? Are you kidding me? First time director of a really boring and pretentious movie (and yes, I saw it) is going to step on the toes of an academy award winning director of seriously good films that actually make money? That’s a good one.

    • Mari says:

Instead of your point of view, I prefer to see more women dorectors who are willing to create films that deal with issues that are usually swept under the rug, or forgotten after another new piece of information comes along.
      Good for them.

      • RobN says:

It’s not my point of view; it’s Kaisers. I don’t care who directs what, but I think Kaiser’s concern that somehow Jolie was going to steal Bigelow’s directing thunder is wildly misplaced. On the one hand you’ve got a director with an academy award and a track record of making money, and on the other hand you’ve got an actress with a pet project. No comparison and I think it’s more than slightly insulting to Bigelow to try and put Jolie in her category.

  42. Ari says:

I swear nothing dims the fact that I want to bang her six ways from sunday ALL THE TIME lol she looks great in both outfits

  43. MsGoblin says:

Look at the way he’s holding her in picture #3.

SIGH. I want to be held that way.

  44. Jamie says:

I wouldn’t say beautiful, but it’s always appropriate when she doesn’t show those starved legs and elbows. So yes she looks appropriate. I wish she’d fully covered the veiny arms and hands, but they did a good job applying dewy stuff to her face. Her make-up artist should have been getting an award.

  45. Kate Nonymous says:

“Angelina always looks worlds better when she’s wearing something tailored for her figure”

    Stars–they’re just like us!

  46. ZenB!tch says:

She looks like she is attending the Microsoft office party. Zzzz… what happened? Is she on a matronly kick or something?

  47. Amy says:

That gray dress reminds me of something Duchess Kate would wear–just a bit on the shorter side below the knee. Looks good on Angelina!

  48. Tiffany says:

I miss the leather pants/jeans and tanktop wearing Angelina of yore. Man, than Angie made you rethink your sexuality. While I think that she is still stunning, some of that badass needs to return to the red carpet.

  49. Luckylilgem says:

love that she’s beautiful and smart enough to not have to do the J.A trouser drop to promote herself.

  50. Love Celebitchy :) says:

Haha, check out the stalker-y guy looking pissed off in the last photo 😛

  51. nemera says:

I really like the grey dress. And I agree with few posters. She and Brad have a very easy relationship on the RC. They seem very intune and I love the small PDA moments. Those come with years together. Knowing each other. They are very sweet together.

The Black dress is nice too. I think any woman regardless of her figure could pull it off.

It always amazes me how many different kinds of Little Black dresses there are.

And great that she got that check it will help a lot of people in need.

I don’t get the Botox comments either. I have seen loads of high quality pics and video of her at the photo call and she has creases in her forehead, it moves and she can lift her eyebrows. I guess people look at a few posted pics and make judgement. The video prove all the Botox talk is just that. Uninformed talk.

  52. The Catlady says:

The funniest thing about this is that the popup ad for Jennifer Aniston’s movie Wanderlust on the bottom of the 4th picture is placed so that it makes it look as though Jennifer is welcoming Angelina’s crotch with open arms!
