I guess I’m scratching my head over here. Don’t all you guys see 18-25 yr olds where you live often? Because they have been wearing the 80s retro higher waisted jeans for a good year now. I’ve also noticed that all the famous young women wear them, not just Cyrus and Hudgens. I guess they get more pics taken of themselves, or something.
You know, I kinda like acid-washed jeans for a light, fun, retro look. However….the high waist??? No one should wear that cut ever, ever again. No. One.
And I’ll take the red velvet swing coat from the L’Wren Scott collection. I was velvet-deprived this season and am going to drape myself in it next fall. 🙂
Oh yeah? Don’t say never! We wore high waisted in the 70’s and they are a million times more comfortable than these low waisted horrors that are always sliding down, showing people’s muffin tops or coin clots, which the rest of us DO NOT NEED TO SEE! Also these pants make girls look hippy. Highwaisted pants are a million times more flattering to your hips.
Sooner or later the fashion will swing back so we all have to get rid of our jeans and buy new ones.
LOL, I hear you. I can take the ‘natural waist’ look but the high waist makes everyone look short-waisted. And since I’m already short-waisted as it is, I need all the help I can get – I prefer to have at least a few inches between the boob sag and the waistband! 🙂
Highwaisted jeans are NOT flattering, they make you look like you have a stumach or make the one you have look bigger and makes your ass look flat and wide.

I think it depends on the person. I actually tend to look better in lower waisted jeans (I have slim hips and don’t have much of a waist). Natural and high waisted jeans look crappy on me-they make my butt look long and flat and emphasize my lack of a waist. Honestly, I don’t think anyone looks good in jeans as high waisted as Miley’s. I remember wearing that look when I was a young teenager back in the mid to late 1980’s and even then knowing on some level that it didn’t look that great on me.
THANK YOU soooooo much!!! Absolutely. YES. High-waisted jeans ARE a million times more flattering (and comfortable. and sexy). Low-rises even look odd on Size 0’s (flat, unflattering butt, and where did the waist go, oh up there, straight as a stick… just odd). I have lots of low-rises and they make me angry each time.
@Jaxx…maybe you and I have different body types, but I heartily disagree. I remember in the 70’s when everyone wore those damn high-waisted jeans…I was effing MISERABLE! I’ve always been very thin, but my torso is short, & every time I wore those damn high-waisted things I felt FAT…looked weird. Hell to the no!
To each his own, but I like the hip-huggers way better.
Edit: I just noticed the pic Kaiser has circled…hahaha! Dare I venture that maybe Miley feels the same AS I DID when I wore those god-awful high-waisted jeans? Honestly, that’s what I felt like doing every time I wore them….UNBUTTONING/UNZIPPING them for some much-needed relief…just like Miley’s doing. Too funny!
@Kimbob–you are so right. Every figure is different and for the shortwaisted those jeans were not flattering. So enjoy the hip huggers while you can. But I guarantee that in another ten years there will be a style change. I’ve lived long enough to see it happen many times. Fortunately for me, by the time they change again I’ll be too old for jeans. I’ll be wearing those bedazzled track suits! Just kidding, wouldn’t be buried in one. Guess it will be yoga pants for me.

Oh. high waists weren’t just 80’s fashion. My teen years were the 70’s and all our jean were high waisted then too. They’ll come back around too, they are a million times more flattering than muffin tops and coin slots.
I love the high-waisted wide leg jeans! Unfortuantely, I am short and just cannot pull them off. On a tall, slim person they look fabulous.

The ones from my “tween years” (when I was 8 but thought I was 15) weren’t as bad as those 80s ones. The wide legs are actually more flattering (and I’m short) and I don’t remember the waist being as high as these 80s one where it hurt to sit.
I had size XS Dittos, Chemin de Fer and tween size Luv Its in 78-80 right before Brooke and her Calvins. Those weren’t as painful either nor the lie on the ground and zip with a safety pin Jordache from my real tween years.

Also they aren’t tight enough on her legs and they have no zipper on the ankles… if you are going to do 80s, do it right.

I live in LA and I haven’t seen them in the stores or any non-Miley teens wearing them (and she lives one suburb over from me). It’s leggings and Uggs season out here right now.
It’s the um colder season and we have no idea what to wear in the winter. It’s too cold for shorts and sundresses but too warm for winter clothes.

Because you can’t sit in those without being in major pain! That button and waist DIGS into your tummy and when you are a skinny teen girl like I was in the 80s, it’s probably worse since there is no padding. THEY WERE PAINFUL. May they never come back again.

I’ll agree with Charlie Sheen but Two and a Half Men was always terrible.
They’re coming back into style, and only certain body types can wear them, namely taller people with long waists and a flat stomach. I could never wear something like that but on the right frame, they don’t look that bad.
I was her age, maybe a little younger when they were last in. I had no idea how bad they looked – EVERYONE under 25 was wearing them.
However, did you notice that she had to unbutton and lower the zipper to sit. I *HATED* them and the matching shorts because of that. I stopped wearing jeans and wore only leggings. Those things HURT!

It makes me laugh that any model who works for VS is considered to be a Supermodel. That term is used too loosely these days. Strutting your stuff in cheap lingerie doesn’t make you a Super.
I don’t like the high wasted paints, that high. I agree with some of the ladies who say that the natural waist are much better, even for those who have a bit of a pudge, like myself, I lost all the weight but just got to get my stomach more firm, lol but these come in handy though when you need to push your gut in. I think this total ensemble is a mess by the way she coordinated ever thing. I have seen many people dress retro whether it be 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80 and it looks really nice on them and they put together the outfit perfect, with the right color’s, shirt etc. Miley looks like she just threw this on, not really trying to make it look cute, like she had to run some errands.
