Last week, the trailer for Dark Tide finally came out – that’s the film where Halle Berry met and fell in love with Olivier Martinez. Since working on the film, Halle and Olivier have been loved up all over the place, finally settling down in LA… although Halle now wants to move to France, mostly because Halle is engaged in a full-blown custody war with her baby-daddy ex, Gabriel Aubry. Olivier has stayed very quiet during this whole thing – I don’t even remember one interview, one quote from him since he’s gotten with Halle. At first I thought Olivier was biding his time, waiting for Dark Tide to come out so that his showmance with Halle could draw to a close. But post-production on the film languished at a snail’s pace. It’s finally being released in March – first “on demand” and then it will have a brief theatrical release. So, here’s the trailer:
CB and I were having fun trying to figure out how bad this movie is. CB said something about it being “like Piranha 3D, only with sharks.” I just think it was some producer’s idea to get a lot of shots of Halle in a bikini, plus some nice underwater shots and shark pr0n. I imagine they sold the extra footage to the Discovery channel or something for Shark Week.
So, with Dark Tide about to come out, I can’t imagine that Halle and Olivier will be doing much in the way of promotion. But will it signal “the end” for their relationship? Halle doesn’t do breakups well. I think Olivier sees that now – she might be fun to date, but all hell breaks loose when the relationship is over. Halle is always the victim, and her ex is always some terrible, racist, misogynistic, abusive monster. Which makes this report in People Magazine a little bit interesting – Olivier is putting down some roots. In Miami!!! Oh noes. Is he moving to Miami?
Halle Berry’s beau Olivier Martinez has been spending so much time in Los Angeles with the Oscar winner that he hasn’t visited Miami for months. But that will change early next month, when the French actor opens a restaurant on South Beach.
“I love the interesting and international people I have met in Miami,” Martinez tells PEOPLE. “So when my friend Michael Martin said he found a space for a restaurant and lounge where we could bring in the best aspects from the South of France, I was excited and wanted to get involved.”
Together with restaurateur Jean-Phillippe Bernard, the partners are opening Villa Azur, featuring the seasonal ingredients and international flavors of Saint-Tropez, where Martinez and Martin have spent many late nights enjoying fine food and wine.
“Olivier and I love Miami and want to bring the glamour and allure of the South of France to this melting pot of a town,” Martin says.
The menu will be French and Italian-inspired and feature entrees such as penne pasta with vodka and caviar cream sauce, or a veal filet mignon stuffed with artichokes, tomatoes and cheese.
The bar and lounge boasts a library with art and design books, as well as couches for guests to sip champagne and share plates of oysters with caviar and Olivier’s special olive bread, which he enjoys in France.
Designed by Francois Frossard, the restaurant will be outfitted in antique woods and chandeliers with both contemporary and old pine furniture.
La Cave d’Azur, the intimate private dining room and wine cellar, will seas 12 VIPs and offer nearly 200 choices of hand picked wines.
Says Martin: “Olivier knows that we are doing something special together where people can get a touch of Saint-Tropez glamour in South Beach.”

Of course, he’s probably just investing and lending his name to help out a friend’s restaurant. But it feels like Olivier is feeling a little bit confined in Halle’s dungeon, right? Oh, this is going to be epic when everything goes to hell.

Good for him! Miami Beach sounds perfect, and I am not being sarcastic. It does have an international feel. My cousin lives in Miami, and he met his Finnish wife on the ‘beach. People come from all over the world to hang out there.
There goes the excuse to move to France. Halle must be doubly pissed.
If Olivier can just extract himself stealthily, and stay away from other women FOR AT LEAST A YEAR post-Halle, maybe she won’t explode.

He doesnt have anything going on if you look him up at IMDB – a bible if you are trekking who is doing what in front and behind the camera. The restaurant biz is a tough one – the success rate is awful – like 59 percent of new places close within 3 years. I think he is trying to earn his own money now, instead of being a kept man. Right now, she is his sugar daddy and probably controlling everything he does. Business in Miami will get him out of her reach.

Olivier better pray his restaurant doesn’t close like Gabriel’s old NYC restaurant did. It shut down after a year or two (if I remember correctly — I went there a couple times and they had the best mojitos!), and supposedly Halle gave Gabriel all sorts of shit about what a big failure he is. So hopefully Olivier’s place lasts longer so he doesn’t feel her wrath!

The first time I saw him (in SWAT), I thought he was, hands down, the most beautiful man I’d ever seen. I know it’s been 10 years since he’s made the movie, but he looks like he’s aged soooo much since then. He looks…frail. I realize he’s mid 40′s, and I appreciate that he isn’t botoxed and dying his hair, and stuff like that, but…I just can’t get over how much he’s aged since then.

For some reason I believe that he would give her a run for her money. He has seen first hand how crazy she is so he is taking notes and planning his escape. I would not be surprised if he is taking swimming lessons and renting a boat to fake his death after a romantic night at sea with Halle.

LMOL! I had flashbacks to Sleeping with the Enemy! Anyway, a good friend of mine is convinced that he gives off the kind of vibe of someone who can be unhinged and would kill her if she ever tried to leave him. For Nahla’s sake I hope she’s wrong but I lean more toward your thoughts. Having seen what he’s seen and based on his past relationships he may have the smarts and desire to avoid drama enough to slowly and craftily bide his time and plot a clean break.

@ol cranky. All joking aside from every photo that I have seen of them together he does seem like he does adore Nahla and is not putting up a front about caring about her. I just had a very cynical thought that Nahla is the only reason that he is staying in that relationship and Helle knows it. I hope that when Helle decided to mess up so badly that this relationship tanks that she is not stupid enough to pull the same thing on Olivier. She is not going to get away with it back to back like she is with Aubrey.

I think that, unlike Halle, Martinez may actually consider the impact a break up would have on Nahla. He’s developed a significant relationship with her so he may put up with a lot to avoid walking away and cutting ties to her.

Neither do I. Years ago I felt sorry for her when she spoke about her relationships with David Justice and Eric Benet and how she was treated badly, but I think she’s a manipulative, controlling woman and her daughter will have issues thanks to that.

Aside-how long has it been since she broke her foot? I wonder if she has issues with osteoporosis-seems like it’s taken a long time to heal. My sister did the same thing in October and it’s taken about the same amount of time in terms of progress, but she’s 58 and post menopausal (“the change” accelerates bone loss).
Walking around with that foot cast-or isn’t she on crutches now?-must make her even more short tempered.

Sorry. I’m on HBs side. Moving to France would not prevent GA from seeing his daughter. It’s another country, not another planet. I don’t agree with using her past relationships to judge her. Some women attract a certain type of man and she didn’t refer to ALL of them as racist. I was in a brief interracial relationship. We argued once and although he didn’t call me the N word, he threw out some really disgusting stereotypes. Once was enough for me.

Interesting how some judge Halle by standards they would never apply to men,
other actresses or themselves. No one knows the real Gabriel Aubry except Halle and those that have seen all aspects of his character. Some give Aubry a free pass because they need to keep him on a pedestal even though he could be crazy acting, vindictive or short tempered. Halle left a cheating husband, abusive men and she likely left Aubry …because she could…for whatever reasons especially if she came to realize at he has anger issues that he would not seek counseling for. If Halle has found love and happiness with Olivier then good for her because she deserves it. Halle has been through a lot and she is not likely to settle as some women do.

It would be nice if women were more supportive of each other in a real way, not in the ‘if I ever disagree or find something distasteful about a female for whatever reason, I have to bury it in a thick layer of sycophancy, lest I be labelled as a misogynist’, but I hope you’re good at waiting. Of course, for some, if you so much as dislike a woman’s dress it’s only because you’re a jealous hater, so I don’t even know where the line is.
