Britney’s son Jayden was rushed to the hospital in Kentwood, Louisiana yesterday while visiting his grandparents there, as we reported earlier. According to a source quoted in People Magazine, two year old Jayden had hives, though, and didn’t suffer from a seizure as was rumored.

Britney Spears’s trip home with her sons this weekend took an unexpected serious turn when her 2-year-old Jayden was rushed to a Kentwood-area hospital at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. But the toddler is “fine,” according to a source close to the family.

“He’s doing fine,” the source tells PEOPLE. “They kept him overnight.”

Jayden was taken to the hospital after suffering “a terrible allergic reaction. He had hives, was itchy and irritable,” according to the source, who says that Britney Spears and her mother, Lynne, spent the night at the hospital with Jayden.

As for what caused the reaction, “They’re just not sure,” said the source.

Just prior to the incident, Britney, Jamie Lynn, Bryan, Lynne and Jamie Spears were enjoying a fun afternoon at the family’s Serenity mansion, the boys’ first trip out of California with their mother since she lost custody.

A rep for the family had no comment, and rep for Britney’s ex-husband Kevin Federline also had no comment.

My four year-old son gets terrible hives if he eats anything with Sucralose/Splenda in it, and we have to be careful because some kinds of toothpaste even contain Splenda. It was scary at first and it took us some trial and error to find the source of the problem.

It’s good to know that Jayden had a medical issue that is generally something that is temporary and easy to treat. Hopefully they’ll figure out what is causing the little guy’s hives and make sure they can help him avoid it in the future.

Oh, hives aren’t that bad. I was really worried about the kid, but he’ll be fine.

When I was little I had an extreme sensitivity to some soaps – I would break out, I would be a huge mess. But I outgrew it.

The doctors have probably already thought about it, but it might just be a mold, dust or hay sensitivity.

    He’s allergic to fresh air.

Maybe he’s allergic to his mother?

Actually hives are bad. They’re a severe allergic reaction that can progress depending on the person, and whatever sparked the allergy. Some people can control their outbreak with benadryl, while others have to carry an epinepherine pen as a life saving measure.

I have a food allergy and yes, they are dangerous. The more exposed you are to whatever it is that caused the reaction, the worse the reaction gets. I hope they get the little guy tested and if necessary carry and EpiPen.
