Kate Winslet in metallic Jenny Packham at the Cesars: lovely or budget?

I feel as if Kate Winslet’s super-fans will issue a fatwa against me if I even utter one less-than-glowing word about her at any moment. Luckily for them, I don’t have any big problems with Kate’s appearance last night at the Cesar Awards in France. The Cesars are like the French Oscars, and I always forget that the Cesars are held really close to the Oscars too. Kate wore this Jenny Packham gown that makes her look like she got a boob job – which I’m sure she hasn’t. I’m just saying, the cut of the gown is good enough where I’m sure some French women were like, “Girl, get out of here with your bolt-ons!” (If someone could translate that into French, I would be much obliged.) The one bad thing about the dress is that it looked really, really heavy. It’s not beading, though – those are sequins. So maybe it’s not that heavy. As for Kate’s face… sigh… I’m not even going to start.

Kate was at the Cesars because she was given an honorary career-achievement award. In previous years, honorary Cesars have been given to Quentin Tarantino, Meryl Streep, Spike Lee, Jean-Luc Godard and Ingrid Bergman, to name just a few. So Kate’s in good company there, although I hate it when women in their 30s receive “lifetime achievement” awards. Winslet still has decades left in her career, y’all. Give it to her when she’s in her 60s.

Oh, and Kate brought her boyfriend/fiancé (?) as her date. Ned Rocknroll got all dressed up to be Kate’s escort. Ugh. This man/boy. He’s like the British equivalent of facially-challenged Casper Smart. I don’t even think Ned’s attractive in the least. I’m also including a photo of Ned & Kate’s arrival in Paris. He just travels with her, does whatever she wants. I’m guessing that she’s paying for everything too – don’t even start with “his family is rich!” His family IS rich. He is not. He married rich, he’s divorcing rich, and he’s jumping-off rich. He’s a golddigging man-child with a sketchy hairline.

what a tasteless dress. the sweaty/oily face doesn’t help. not good.

  3. UniqJazz says:

    Lovely !

    • NinaG says:

I think she looks lovely as well. I like the style and fit of the dress on her, Her hair and make up looks nice.

  4. niloa says:

I’m french and i watched the show yesterday , and on screen she looked soooo fiiiiiine. She was glowing . By the way Gondry read a poem , in french it was about her talent, in english about her bottom and cleavage !He even started with “it’s hard work to make you come”…When in french he translated with ” You worked hard to be where you are now”.

    • Cleo says:

I agree with you.I wasn’t a fan of this dress until Kate went on stage. She looked really great. And I liked Michel Gondry’s speech. He managed to be serious AND funny at the same time. I saw an interview they gave together after the show and they made me wish I could have visited “Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind” set, they were joking and laughing a lot.

      • normades says:

Gondry was great! And he really made fun of the boobs (lol).
And the reel of her cinematic highlights was really really great.

    • carrie says:

on twitter yesterday it was the crazyness on her lovely boobs

      • Kara Ann says:

It feels a little weird typing this but…I have a serious case of BOOB ENVY!

Whew. I feel better now. Glad to let that out.

  5. Lis says:

I see the imprints of her Spanx are showing.

Love the dress, but the material is not forgiving, is it?

She annoys me, and her face is tweaked to high hell.

  6. HadleyB says:

I don’t think her boobs look like bolt ons.. they have a hang though I ams sure there is some support for them in the dress or undergarment.

I love Kate but this dress doesn’t look good from the boobs down..she’s gained some weight and it’s not doing her any favors.

I think hair down would look better as it seems to be a sexy but fun dress not serious?…

Brilliant pearls of Kaiser wisdom. Amazing!!! 🙂

    • Kara Ann says:

I don’t disagree with Kaiser take on Ned but, at least, he is a gold-digging MAN-child as opposed to, you know, just a gold-digging child. Yeah I’m looking at you Lopez.

  8. Marjalane says:

Hell yeah, that’s a sketchy hairline. He’s brought her down from a B to a C-. (but still 100X more attractive than Casper the friendly Jlo boytoy)

  9. trollontheloose says:

“Casses-toi, toi et tes nichons!!” would be the translation.

  10. Kimbob says:

Ugh…try hard. There are better ways to showcase your breasts. The cut of that gown…the EXTRA LOW dip in the front…just screams try hard to me…look at my breasts…look at my breasts…no good. If Kate would just stop trying to be what she’s not, she’d look really good.

  11. ClumsyMe says:

Her boobs look normal but her face is just… ugh I don’t even know where to begin.

  12. ggh says:

Kate Winslet is stunning, she’s always so gorgeous to me. Beautiful face, lovely womanly figure and so what is she’s having a good time with her new man, she handles everything with class. Love her.

  13. Luise says:

    Pudget

  14. Agnes says:

i like the dress, but it looks too old for her or something.

  15. Valerie says:

I can’t get over how she can bring herself to go out with a man – and been seen publicly with him – who LEGALLY CHANGED HIS NAME TO NED ROCKNROLL!!!!!!!!

How can she stand it?! If they had a baby would the surname be Rocknroll?? How is she not mortified by this? His real name was apparently Abel Smith.

Also – Kate’s face looks busted, I think. But I never thought of her as being some great beauty. She rubs me up the wrong way.

  16. wenderwoman says:

    He needs a haircut… NOW!

  17. Kate #2 says:

I don’t think that she’s young enough for that dress, tbh. I’m the same age and my hips and tummy and arse would look like that as well, so I’m not being mean. (My boobs would no way look anything like as good, either!) But if your Spanx really show, and you really need them, then reflective sequins are not a good look, in my opinion. Her top half looks great, but she needs to have more structure from the waist down, or a more forgiving fabric. Pushing 40 is not the time for shiny unless you’re built like a twig. She did that a few years back in a shiny satin Oscars dress that just highlighted every lump and bump. I don’t get why, when she has an hourglass shape and looks great when she just avoids shine.

She can’t be Botoxed to the max as she does have lines… but even her forehead lines are arched in line with her eyebrows, and I think she’s had fillers, too. It wouldn’t matter if she didn’t go on about natural beauty and how faking it creates false standards and makes “normal” women hate themselves.

  18. Marion says:

Actually I watched the show yesterday too and she looked really good… Really good compared to all those French actresses who were all wearing ugly dresses… Even if I’m not a great fan of Kate’s look, she was waayyyyyy better than most of the other women… And the more the show was going on, the more I’d tell myself that French women are nothing to be envied of…

    • niloa says:

It was exactly what i thought too. And yet we have pretty actresses in France, but yesterday Kate looked the greastest by far. But i would precise that french actresses don’t dress for the Cesars as American do for the Oscars. Some wears gala ou cocktail dresses, other would come in a suit or even something more casual. For example an actress nominated gave an interview and she said that she would’nt wear a dress because it wasn’t her style to do so. So She wore trousers and a jacket .

      • normades says:

I think you’re talking about Melanie Laurent.

Very true that the Césares are a lot less formal than the Oscars. You don’t go to the Césares in a gown.

      • Marion says:

totally agree with you and to me the best dresses were the ones with the suits
I know that’s not our French mentality to be all dressed up and all but come on, there were some really horrible dresses!!!
Liked Audrey lamy and sara Forestier though!

  19. Dee Cee says:

Please ditch the wispy thin do.. not flattering and she needs a pop of color..

  20. Anna says:

    Kate looks gorgeous, ab fab.

There are photos of her that day on other gossip sites where you can clearly see lines around her eyes and bags underneath. I don’t get the jacked to the max critique at all.

Maybe the blonde doo is for the guy. She seems like a romantic kind of girl to me.

  21. lucy2 says:

I like the dress, but I don’t know if it’s the right silhouette for her.
She’s had a great career, but I agree she’s too young for a “lifetime” award.

    • demian bichir says:

It was probably just a gift from Roman Po(Zoo?)lanski to thank her for her “incroyable” prestation in Carnages. It helps to have some well connected pedo friends in the industry you know! She doesn’t have to wait 3 decades like all the others to have an honorary Ceasar( like Clint). They seriously should have give it to PLUMMER(he was truly robbed by everybody this year!)the Ceasars suck.

  22. G says:

I’m not a fan of the plunge but i think she looks happy and relaxed. The whole world isn’t enamoured of size 0.

  23. Hattie says:

I think she looks lovely and her tits look divine.

  24. Jess says:

Boobs look great, love the dress, but I haven’t liked her hair in a while now. As for the face, I just can’t tell so I don’t know what to say.

    • Jilli says:

The dress is a tad bit too revealing for my liking, but she appears nicely encased in it-no lumps and the like. I agree, I have not liked her hair for a long time. I am uncertain why so many women go lighter when it only makes them look harsh. Kate needs to go with a darker, richer hair color.

  25. original sandy says:

whoa!! hilarious write up and i like kate, she looks good in the dress, not a size zero, so we are not accustom to curves, any way, didn’t know that about her man, sad, she can do so much better.

  26. original sandy says:

i wanted to add, most of the time, rather i like it or not, the assessment of the subject is mostly spot on, even if i am a fan of the subject, i like it when the writers call them out on it, they are saying what most of us are thinking anyway, of course it don’t have to be stated in the worst way, or it can, lol it’s more funny, lol, some commenter’s get too angry with the truth, because they know it’s the truth, i hope you don’t change because of a few sensitive posters, i love this site, i have learned so much on this site about celebrities, carry on.

  27. LeeLoo says:

KATE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE TINT YOUR EYEBROWS!!!!!!!

  28. marie says:

Love the dress. Someone commented it was too old for her??? WTF. An old lady couldn’t wear a dress that low cut. Her hair looks awful! Stringy and dirty looking with the fake blonde and dark roots.

  29. Mourning the Death of Music says:

I don’t think it would be very lovely to touch. I’m a very textile person, and this dress just screams untouchable. Imagine if one of those sequence got turned wrong when she sat and pierced through to her bum? Ouch!

  30. theoriginallucy says:

Never been a huge Kate fan…but I will say, I love her figure…not fat, certainly not stick thin…a beautiful, womanly figure…this is how women were meant to look before all the fashion designers decided that women should all look like 12 year old boys…

  31. SCREEEE says:

“Non mais Kate, casses-toi avec tes gros seins en plastique.”

    french stylee =

“Oh Kate, f*** off with your big ol’ plastic tittays”.

HOWEVER I also do not believe she got her boobs done. Was just being nice and translating.

What I *would* like to say is:

“Kate, fais pas chier avec ton anti-chirurgie; tu t’es évidemment fais quelquechose aux yeux.”

    =

“Kate, don’t be a dick about plastic surgery, you’ve clearly done something to your eyes.”

  32. Shaye says:

Not a fan of the dress….makes her look a bit lumpy.

  33. Danziger says:

I don’t see tweaking. I see an aging woman. There are lines and bags around her eyes in close-ups.

  34. Az says:

She looks majorly dickmatized, doesn’t she?

    • Misha says:

Lol !! You made my afternoon! (Im getting deriously dickmatized these days & this is exactly the look I dont want to wear ;-))

  35. Katie says:

As someone else said there are pics of Kate on other sites (Daily Mail showbiz) where you can see lots of wrinkles and crows feet. Not sure why you’re ignoring those pics – I assume because they don’t fit in with your tweaked to high hell theory. I think something Kate should be careful of is wearing very heavy foundation as it does her no favours.

  36. Hypocricy says:

I never found her beautiful bar her Titanic days with the red hair.

I always thought that she had some kind of masculinity about her (the voice, the poise, too athletic for my taste) and that she bears a resemblance to Steffi Graff…a more beautiful version but still.

  37. I like Kate. Not sure if I really like this dress on her. And Blotting papers are one’s friend.

  38. Jill says:

I actually like this dress on her. She wears it well.

Hair is a mess. She needs to do something with it.

  39. Elle says:

In Montreal, we would say “Fille, va t’en avec tes fausses boules!” (girl, get lost with your fake balloons)there ya go.

  40. lilianne says:

I think she looks really beautiful, happy and relaxed. I love her hair and make-up, she is glowing. As for plastic surgery, botox etc … get a grip people!
