Taylor Kitsch is a 30-year-old Canadian nutritionist: sexy, lovely or not your type?

Here are some photos from last night’s London premiere of John Carter, that horrible-looking sci-fi-action film starring Taylor Kitsch. I’ll admit it – I don’t have any strong feelings for or against Taylor Kitsch. Maybe I lack interest because I never got into Friday Night Lights – does that make me a bad person? That show reminded me too much of my high school and my youthful experiences, many of which I want to forget. Anyway, Taylor seems nice enough. He’s attractive in a middle-ground way – neither a meathead beefcake (Liam Hemsworth) nor a sparkly poet-type (Robert Pattinson). Kitsch used to have longer hair, but he’s become much more groomed and pulled-together over the past year. It works on him. So, while I like looking at pretty pictures of him, I’m not particularly hot for him.

Kitsch appears on the cover of the new issue of Men’s Health UK – the photo shoot isn’t anything special, but you can see The Mail’s coverage here. I was more interested in the interview – he’s more interesting than I initially thought. He doesn’t come across like a bad guy, or a dumb guy – he seems calm, intelligent, with a dry wit. Oh, fun facts – he’s 30 years old, a trained nutritionist and he’s Canadian. I didn’t know any of that. Here are some highlights:

He lost 35lb in two months to portray war photographer Kevin Carter in The Bang Bang Club: “I lost 35lb in two months. That was f***ing stupid and there’s not a lot of actors who will do that. It’s just way too extreme, and being a nutritionist I found it hard. Everything I knew just went out the window. The way I worked, it changed my walk, my confidence, everything. I was very bipolar. My mood swings were f***ing insane. I was very emotional, I had night terrors, I couldn’t sleep. It was a zoo.”

He’s a hard worker: “The worst feeling in the world is doing something and people thinking, ‘Ah, he could have worked harder. In the end it’s about energy. If you put half your energy into something, you’re only going to get that back at the end of the day. But I’m like, ‘What if I put in f***ing everything without any other variable?’ That’s what I was like for John Carter. I was like, “OK Kitsch, let’s see what you can do.” Just give it everything.”

[From The Mail]

LOL, he calls himself “Kitsch”. That’s cute. Reading that inspired me to look up some other stuff about Kitsch – he claims that if the acting thing didn’t pan out, he was going to be a nutritionist in America and work on childhood obesity. Oh, and he doesn’t care for Justin Bieber (and he’s built a home in Austin, Texas!):

Alright, I get it. His voice kind of annoys me, but I get it. He’s sexy. So, enjoy him. I don’t know how many Kitsch posts we’ll get a chance to do, but I’ll keep my eye on him.

And in case Kitsch still isn’t your cup of tea, here’s some Dominic West, who was also at the John Carter premiere. Dominic West could have me any way he wanted me. Sigh…

I love Taylor from his Friday Night Light days and hope his career gets bigger. I once had such a hot dream with him that to this day I still blush when I see his pictures. LOL

He’s hot and Canadian, enough for me :D and the movie is getting pretty much positive buzz all over the web, everybody is praising Andrew Stanton’s take on the story so I’m sold.

At the risk of sounding annoying… You know he’s in Battleship, right? It comes out in May – and ASkars in it! You could do a post on that whilst casually mentioning his co-star ASkars. Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson are in it too. Just sayin’. :P

Reminds me too much of Neil P. Harris & a grown up Beiber to be hot. D. West has the appeal however :D

Canadian, eh? I would say that explains the “Texas” accent on FNL, but honestly, no actor on that show can get it right.
Anyhoodles, he’s cute enough, but not my type.

Really? I’m from Louisiana but live in Houston and I thought Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton’s accents were spot on. Even the guy who played Buddy. Definitely not as bad as the actors on True Blood.

I’d never have guessed any of the actors on FNL were from Texas. I stopped watching after the second season, though, so maybe they improved since then? I’m from Louisiana also, and I’ve never met a Texan who had an accent like that. I feel like they lay it on super thick. Although, Sassenach, you’re right about TB. Those are the worst.

He was very hot as Tim Riggins on FNL (one of the best shows EVER) but I’ve kind of lost interest after that.

He was the best part of that crappy Wolverine movie when he played Gambit. I hate the character Gambit in the comics, but I thought Kitsch was great.

I am pretty excited about John Carter too :) I think it looks pretty fun and I know my kids are eager to see it too.

He’s not a bad looking guy at all. He looks a lot better than that Michael Fassenbender that every one on this site seems to fancy over. Now don’t ban me for saying this ” The same way you feel blah about this guy is the same way I feel about Fassenbender. Now I do think Michael is a fantastic and brilliant actor but he’s just meh to me in the looks department.

Totally agree… two of the BEST shows ever, and I love both Taylor Kitsch and Dominic West! They are both very good looking and extremely talented actors! I am excited that Taylor Kitsch is getting steady work… I just hope he doesn’t get stuck with terrible movie roles (not so sure about “John Carter” and “Battleship”).

those aren’t great pictures of him, but he was the hottest thing on tv for 5 years. FNL was a great show, but tim riggins got the juices flowing :)

I lusted for Riggins. I like him and want him to be successful but no shivers here. A little to plain for me now. A little vanilla. But I will see how he develops in the near future. I think he needs a little more seasoning and marinating for me.

I didn’t get it at first but then I started watching FNL. Tim Riggins… holy eff. Then I was sold. Doesn’t hurt he’s from my home province!

I like the longer hair on him but will take him any which way I can get him. I’m definitely going to see John Carter and DEFINITELY going to see Battleship. Taylor & ASkars? Yes please.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!

i love hearing that every time! it took me forever to get into fnl but i am SO glad people persisted in me seeing it bc i love it, i love every flaw of every character, i love how they worked very hard to not make characters into lame stereotypes… and coach taylor – what a real man! :)

Tim Riggins was my TV boyfriend for 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights (such an amazing show – it always seemed so real), and while I support Taylor Kitsch in all his Canadian (yay!) glory, he’s just not doing it for me anymore with the short hair.

Btw, he was a hockey player before an injury forced him to quit.

I didn’t watch Friday Night Lights, either. But he was super sexy as my favorite mutant, Gambit, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

At times (and if I squint), he kind of reminds me a of a younger, softer Timothy Olyphant.

It’s really unfair of you to put handsome-but-kind-of-bland Kitschy next to ruggedly-handsome-please-sex-me-up-now Jimmy McNulty! Seriously, who doesn’t pale compared to Dominic?
Ahh, anyway, I remember Kitschy from Wolverine, he was one of the few good things about it, so I guess ther’s something to him. And I’m actually looking forward to John Carter, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be better than what the premise leads on. :)
