Christina Hendricks: “I would prefer talking about my acting rather than my body”

Finally, a Christina Hendricks photo shoot that doesn’t have me pulling out my hair. It does have me musing about big-busted girls and the dangers of going strapless, though. I could never wear strapless gowns, because my girls would be all “HELLOOOOO!” as they popped out. As I’m afraid Christina’s girls will too. Still, I like this shoot much more than her leather-clad bow-and-arrow shoot from last week. Anyway, Christina is doing all of these magazine shoots and interviews because Mad Men comes back in just a few weeks. I have no idea why January Jones and Elisabeth Moss don’t also have magazine covers, but whatever. I’ll take Christina. Her Blackbook interview is kind of boring for non-Mad-Men-stans, though. So if you don’t care about Joan Holloway (Harris), just skip this:

She doesn’t want to talk about her boobs: ‘I’ve always been really comfortable in my skin, but I’m really just a girl who would prefer talking about my acting rather than my body,’ she says. ‘But I’m a very comfortable naked person. Not in front of other people, but at home and in front of my husband [actor Geoffrey Arend]. I feel good not wearing clothes.’

The new season of Mad Men: Filming it ‘went by in a blink,’ she says, ‘A lot happens this year. Last year was building up to what was going to happen with Don and Betty, and although there’s that, so much happens with each character this season that we were all like, ‘Whoa,’ And a lot happens to Joan.’

Joanie is confident: ‘The amazing thing about Joan is how confident she is,’ she says. ‘I was never that confident. When we shot the pilot I was like, “Who is this woman? I’m not friends with people like that.”’

Joanie talks about sex: ‘She’s living in the ’60s, but she uses sexual innuendo, which is taboo. Because of that – and a very tight green dress – she became a sexual character. She was very openly saying, I have sex, and I don’t care if you judge me. I’m not going to apologise for who I am. Those qualities resonated with people, and have given me confidence. Just as I have changed, and as significant things have happened in my life, like getting married and moving into a new home, Joan has gotten married and gotten pregnant,’ says Christina, in reference to Joan’s surprising, news at the end of last season.

Life after Mad Men: ‘The idea that we have two seasons left is a bit daunting,’ says Christina. ‘It’s been nice to have security. A lot of us have been around for a while. We know how cyclical this stuff is and how fleeting it can be, so the idea that the show will end is certainly bubbling inside of me, but I’ve never had a plan.’

[From The Mail]

Um, “I’m really just a girl who would prefer talking about my acting rather than my body.” In what world? I never thought I’d say this to one of my girls, but “Bitch, please.” Christina loves talking about her body. She gives interview after interview about her body. To be fair, she gets LOTS of questions about her figure, for good reason – she’s held up as a positive role model for curvy women. But let’s not pretend that this conversation has been forced upon her. Christina loves the attention.

I think Christina is a lovely gal. But, I can just see the avalanche of breast meat now…

  2. Enn says:

If she wants us to stop talking about her body, she should probably try to put her damn boobs away. I’m large chested myself, and manage to leave the house every day with my boobs under control.

    • MeMyself says:

I am always in awe of gals with big bosums talking about them. As a happily (no, really) flat chested woman, except when pregnant, you ladies almost seem like an entirely different species.

  3. Lum The Invader says:

Everyone is talking about those boobs cause of the hacked photos.

  4. Cherry says:

Quotes like ‘I’m a very comfortable naked person… I feel good not wearing clothes’ give me the icks. What woman talks like that? It’s so obvious that she wants to draw attention to her body. Which is fine, I guess- but don’t start complaining that everybody keeps asking you questions about your boobs afterwards.
Side note: that cover pic is ridiculously photoshopped. She looks like an entirely different person!

  5. serena says:

Didn’t she get ‘her girls’ by doing plastic surgery? I saw an old photo of her and she was totally flat chested.
So, that’s a really big BITCH PLEASE.

    • Agnes says:

yeah, i saw a photo of her from some playboy shoot that took place a few years ago where she was in a bikini, and she was rather small-chested, esp. compared to now. i guess some of it might be weight gain, but i hardly think that a mature woman’s breast can increase that much without surgical intervention…

    • Shaz says:

So, yeah, then why the jumbo sized implants? If it weren’t for them then people may never have even seen her acting…so disingenuous. Like, they got me noticed, but now stop noticing.

  6. ShanKat says:

Okay, Chrissy, let’s talk about your acting. It sucks.

  7. Samigirl says:

Psh. If I had her body, it’d be all I ever talked about. I think she’s hot.

Also, yes, those hacked photos. I LOVE when actresses say, “Oh yes, those pictures are mine…except not the nipple shot.” I’m not that stupid. Yes, those are your breasts and your nipples. Own up to it.

  8. sarah says:

omg. these boobs are SO FAKE. They don’t point out like this naturally

    • ahoyhoy says:

They ARE fake, unfortunately. There are photos of her out there from when she was first starting as an actress. She had big boobs already, but then she got big clownish implants under them and became famous.

  9. GoodCapon says:

I don’t get it with these kinds of photoshoots. She’s beautiful enough without having to show her twins all the time.

  10. mew says:

Oh, I’d love her to talk about her acting instead of her body but she’s the one who insists on going on and on and on and on and on…

  11. Jessica says:

Of course they’re fake. Older pictures of her (as an adult in her 20s, not a growing teen) show her with a relatively flat chest, and then a little later a bit bigger, and then later HUGE. She’s also a blonde, not a redhead. Still, she’s insanely gorgeous…but full o’ crap on a few topics.

  12. Amanda says:

So full of crap. She’s the one who enjoys talking about those pasty blobs the most.

  13. lucy2 says:

I like her, and she’s great on Mad Men, but if she really wants to focus on her acting, not her body, SHE should stop talking about it and stop doing photo shoots like that one.

  14. LeeLoo says:

The only reason that photoshoot works is because the camera angles are just right.

  15. Shelly says:

If I had her body and boobs, I would never get dressed, ever.

  16. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Watch out for the lightning, dear. He can hear you.

  17. original sandy says:

nice body, that is all, don’t know much about her,.. put those things away if you want us to focus on something else.
