Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo announced their engagement back in 2010, and literally days later, Jessica Simpson’s K-Fed “proposed” with a ring (which Jessica likely paid for). Jessica got a lot of crap for seeming to copy or try to one-up her ex-husband, and it seems like the criticism worked, sort of. Nick and Vanessa got married quietly last July, successfully beating Jessica and Eric Johnson to the altar, and Jessica then seemed content to simply be the first ex to get pregnant. So now Vanessa is playing catch up – Vanessa and Nick have just announced that they’re expecting! Take that, Jessica!

Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey are expecting their first child, Lachey announced Monday morning on Live! With Kelly.
“She’s just 12 weeks,” a source tells Us Weekly of Minnillo, 30. “They’re both thrilled so excited. Can’t wait to meet the new little one. Minnillo offered a sneak peak of her baby bump while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Feb. 25.
Back in August, Lachey, 37, said he was “doing everything I can” to get his wife pregnant.
“Trust me, it would make me very happy,” he said. “Family is very important. It’s very important to us, and I’m sure that will be around the corner.”
The Wipeout hostess and The Sing Off host wed on Necker Island last July. Lachey’s first wife, Jessica Simpson, is due with her own child this spring; the dad is fiance Eric Johnson.

I tend to think Vanessa and Nick are very happy together. They seem well-suited for each other, and I think that Jessica Simpson doesn’t enter into their minds very often. So… I’ll buy that the timing of this isn’t about Jessica. They were just married, they waited half a year, and Vanessa got knocked up. Congrats to them – I’m sure they’ll be great parents!

He seemed so mean and disrespectful of her. She may be dumb, but he was really rude to her. He didn’t seem like he really wanted to be married. He didn’t seem to like her.
@Molly, i think he just didnt know how stupid Jessica was before he married her and moved in a house with her. He was annoyed by her (me too when i watched them). Its a big difference to date someone or to live with that person. They were both very young when they married, too young in my opinion. Jess is realy not a smart chicken 😉 but shes also not a mean or arrogant woman. I guess they just were not meant for each other.

What are you talking about? I don’t remember reading any stories about him cheating. As a matter of fact, by the end of their marriage, rumors were running around that Jessica was the one cheating while on the set of her movie Daisy Duke. Nick was as famous as Jessica in the beginning of their Newlyweds show at MTV. She became a household name because of that show and all the airhead things she would say. Get your facts checked better next time!
There were a lot of stories about him cheating, at a bachelor party, with a NY newspaper reporter (at least he tried and she wrote about it) with an OH college student. And just the other day there was a report in one of the mags of him cheating on Vanessa at a party.
@Maria, i remember that Nick was the bigger Name at the beginning of Newlyweeds. Jessica has been known for beeing a cheap Britney Spears Copy. And a really bad one too! Jess had only succsses whith that show, she realy isnt famous for beeing a great talent, singer, actress or anything else. When did she had a hitsingle? She was the first big reality MTV Star with the Osbornes. People like her made the Way for all these Hiltons, Kardashians and Houswifes. And her succsses was also his life and succsses, not just hers, who would watch it just with her, a nobody at that time?

I caught their wedding special on a boring, hungover, Sunday afternoon awhile back. They seem very suited to one another and like they have a solid relationship and know each other well. The biggest difference I saw in their relationship compared to his with Jessica is that Vanessa actually acts like a grown woman, unlike Jess when she was with him. Congrats to them both!
Well, Nick and Jessica got married very young.. that was what? 10 years or more ago? So I imagine both parties have changed.. maybe both have grown up, Nick seems slightly bitter, jaded.. but seemed ok with taking Jessica’s money even though he was the one that was “famous” when they got married at the time.

ITA…I always wished that Nick and Jessica would get back together. I think Jessica wished the same thing but Nick was very hurt by Jessica and was never ever going to forgive her.
R.E. Jess and nick: there was a lot of hurt and pride there from both sides, and when her controlling family stepped in it was war. Such a shame, because if the family had of backed off and a cooling, calming period had of allowed for a reconciliation they would be stronger than ever before. I look at Nick now and he’s clearly just settled and is lukewarm happy at the most. Jess and Nick were soul mates, and you could see it from how they interacted together and the joy they brought each other. Both parties are now miserable and “settling” with people who don’t really float their boat. It’s so sad to see. Nick just wants kids and to forget about the Jess saga, but deep down inside it’s Jess he wants kids with. You never forget a love like that.
