Mel Gibson possibly busted with Russian mistress

Mel Gibson looked super pissed to be photographed on the set of his film Edge of Darkness in Boston earlier this month. Gibson plays a homicide detective who finds a government conspiracy while investigating the death of his activist daughter, according to IMDB. The film is directed by Martin Campbell, who also directed Casino Royale.

Gibson probably wasn’t just mad that he was snapped furiously smoking a cigarette. The paparazzi also got pictures of a lovely Russian woman named Oksana, who was first seen with him on set in August, following him. They say Oksana is not cast or crew and it looks suspicious that she’s on set and is closely trailing Gibson. Maybe she works for him in some kind of official capacity though:

Exclusive… Fame Pictures first broke the exclusive story of Mel Gibson and his mysterious Russian companion and rumored mistress, Oksana, in August, and when the story went public, she quickly disappeared from the Boston set of “Edge of Darkness.” However, Fame photographers were shocked to see the return of the beautiful young Russian to the set on November 3rd, reigniting rumors questioning the type of relationship shared between the two and casting doubt on Gibson’s dedication to his pious religious beliefs and to his 28-year marriage to wife, Robyn. While Gibson’s spokesperson tried to quash the original rumors of Mel’s mistress by saying she was “one of the artists on Mel’s recording label in the US recording,” Oksana’s reappearance by Mel’s side confirms suspicions that she is more to Mel than just a colleague. On Monday, November 3rd, a weary Mel Gibson walked across the set of “Darkness,” casually smoking a cigarette. Minutes later, an angelic but cautious Oksana walked the same path. Sources confirm that Oksana has no role in the film or job on the set, so her presence on set and her consistent proximity to Gibson is undeniably puzzling. Gibson is back in front of the camera for the first time since his widely publicized anti-Semitic comments made during a drunk driving arrest and his behavior is certainly under scrutiny during the filming. Oksana’s mysterious appearance brings further scrutiny to Gibson’s character, infidelity, and lascivious nature. These images were shot between 10/30/08-11/03/08.

[From Fame Pictures photo description, public link not available]

She could definitely be some kind of assistant, but it does look strange for Gibson. He has been married for 28 years to his wife Robyn Moore and they have seven children and one grandchild. Gibson is a devout Catholic and follows the Opus Dei Sedvacantism sect. (Thanks Mairead!)

Gibson faced a very public battle with alcoholism after his arrest for DUI in July, 2006 in Malibu in which he went on an anti-semitic rant against the arresting officer. Photos later came out of him that night partying with young women. This will be Gibson’s first time in front of the camera since that infamous incident and if he is having an affair he should try a lot harder to hide it.

if she was a friend, they’d have nothing to hide. And what 28 year old woman is just friends with a famous, aging movie star? Riiiiight. I’m sure they have lots to talk about.

CB, I thinks it’s another ultra-conservative sect that he’s with, known as Sedevacantism rather than Opus Dei. Opus Dei in the past have denied he’s a member.

Sedvacantism does not recognise the most recent of the popes (after 1963 and the 2nd Vatican Council) and rejects the docterine of Vatican II, similar to sects such as the Tridentines, and the most recent revisions of Canon Law.

    http://www.cmri.org/sedevac.htm

Opus Dei certainly outwardly do accept the Pope and are an accepted branch of Roman Catholicism. I would say both organisations are diametrically opposed as one of the teachings of Opus Dei is that every person can be a saint and to strive towards that. I honestly can’t see the Traditionalists sanctioning that caper.

As for Mel, he’s looking seriously bet down.

True followers of Christ are not drunken anti-semites. His true followers reflect Him, that’s why there’s so few of them. What Mel does is his business I just wish he would stop saying he’s a true believer. “By their fruits ye shall know them” Just empty words? In this case, probably not, his fruits are rotten.

I apologize in advance to everyone else who doesn’t care for biblical passages, but obviously Lore seems to think they are very important and puts an amount of worth on them. So if that’s the case, I wanted to use them to prove my point. If you don’t like it, just skip it. It’s meant for Lore anyway.

    Lore:

    MATTHEW 7:1-5:

“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull the mote out of thine eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

Believers are saved by faith, not by works:

Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

So before you spout off about how there aren’t many ‘true followers’ out there, maybe you need to remind yourself first, not to judge and second, that actions aren’t what get us to heaven, but what is in our hearts. Yes, we want to do what’s right to show our thanks to God for saving us from our sins, but if we screw up, it doesn’t send us to hell and nor does it mean we aren’t ‘true believers’. The pharisees thought as much and we all know where that got them.

  17. Julia says:

That kind of crap just bugs me. It doesn’t matter what your actions are if your heart is pure? Bullshit! :) That doesn’t even make sense. Actions speak louder than words AND what’s “in your heart”. That’s like saying it’s ok to be racist as long as you don’t actively punch black people. You aren’t “pure of heart” if you don’t have any desire to help other people or to make the world better.

I actually agree with the poster who said that lots of people say they are followers of Christ but aren’t really. That’s my main problem with much of organized religion. How many people who say they are Christian actually follow the teachings of Christ? Not any of those people you see spewing hate and bigotry, that’s for sure.

I think Becky is right not to judge, but I consider it a personal failing that I’m comfortable embracing when I judge people for being complete asshats. I am not a perfect person, so I won’t sit on my high horse and judge all the minute failings of others, but I also don’t tolerate bigotry, sexism, racism, homophobia, cruelty…etc. :)

  18. Julia says:

Also, I like how it’s ok (per Becky) to “screw up” and not go to hell if you’re a true believer, but if you dedicate your life to good works and happen to be gay you are automatically boned in the afterlife (and not in a good way). Not saying this to be mean to her specifically, but I call shenanigans on the any religion that calls that ideology acceptable.

  24. Aspen says:

He attends churches that are a part of the Society of Saint Pius X. I grew up in Society churches. It is a very traditional Catholicism that rejects Vatican II as Mairead said. They keep to the Tridentine mass and traditions…believing that the Vatican II changes are not Roman Catholic and should not be observed.

I compare the differences to Reformed religion vs. Orthodoxy.

There is nothing cultish or “weird” about The Society of St. Pius X. They are just people who take their Catholicism very seriously.

If Mel Gibson is loony, it has nothing to do with his religion. Sometimes…batsh!t crazy is just…batsh!t crazy, and there isn’t a church to blame for it.

  32. Gracie says:

Sedvacantism – technically it’s a description of a set of believers, not the name of any group. So, adjective rather than noun. There is no ‘sedavacantist’ sect per se.

Seda – Seat (The Chaif of St. Peter),
    vacant – empty.

So no real Pope since Pius X.

I would not classify them as “Catholics” because real Catholics do not deny the legitimacy of the Pope. Even our Orthodox brothers believe that the Pope really is the pope, although they don’t believe in his supremacy among bishops.

Also – it seems like many people here believe that ‘in vino veritas’. Whether that is true is another story.

  33. Aspen says:

St. Pius X churches do not deny the legitimacy of the Pope or any of the Vatican’s authority.

They simply reject the changes to the Mass that came about during the Vatican II “council.”

As to Mel Gibson’s personal take on all things dogmatic or doctrinal…I have no idea.

He’s apparently a drunken anti-semite with no respect for his wedding vows. None of that is Catholic either…especially not for people who attend Tridentine tradition churches.

So…I still contend that it’s unfortunate people like to blame Gibson’s spirituality for all the crazy things he does. His church has absolutely zero to do with the way he behaves.

All in all, I don’t find it unusual or very titillating. In fact, this would be an area where he would fit right in with the rest of Hollywood, you know, “Look fellas, I’m really just like you after all”.
