Maybe Queen Elizabeth thinks that if she forces Duchess Kate to make public appearances with her, Kate will magically become less lazy and a more hard-working royal? Maybe. But I’m not sure about the optics of this latest joint public appearance for Kate and the Queen. Kate manages to make the Queen look super-engaged with everyone – all while Kate seems to hang back and pose for photos, barely speaking to anyone. These are photos from the “kick-off” of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour in the UK – they took the train to Leicester and did some events. Kate’s suit is LK Bennett – it’s okay. It’s not my favorite thing she’s worn, but at least she’s not drenched in gratuitous buttons. She did slather on some extra eye makeup though. Here’s more about the trip:
The Duchess of Cambridge and the Queen gave a lesson in how to travel in style today as they kicked off the Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK. The Royals looked a far cry from the average train commuter, causing quite a stir at St Pancras station in London.
Kate looked to the 1940’s for inspiration, wearing an elegant teal suit by L.K. Bennett and James Lock hat. The Queen wore a cerise cashmere dress and coat with black trim by Angela Kelly, and a matching hat, also by Angela Kelly.
The Royals are travelling together to Leicester by train before going on to visit various parts of the city. Crowds stood three-deep on pavements surrounding the train station, behind crash barriers, as they waited to try to catch a glimpse of the royal party arriving in the city. Many had cameras in their hands at the ready to try to grab quick pictures of the Queen, Duke and Duchess, while others waved Union flags and sported hats emblazoned with the union Jack flag.
A police helicopter hovered overhead and many officers and patrol cars bordered the roads around the station. Inside the train station a heavy police presence monitored the area and access to the station was limited for commuters. The royal party strolled through the recently refurbished St Pancras International station as other passengers turned to watch them and boarded the 10.15 train to Nottingham.
Their first stop was De Montfort University, with a stop in De Montfort Square en route where they will watch cultural dances. The Queen and Kate watched a student fashion parade at the university, where a group of six students have been gearing up for the moment they get to meet Kate. There were more cheers inside as the royal visitors took their seats for a fashion show. The Queen and the Duchess chatted and smiled to each other as they waited for the models to come down the catwalk.
As the show by recent design graduates from the university got under way, the Queen and the Duchess continued to exchange observations as they sat side-by-side at the end of the runway. The Queen sat quietly as the models showed off the colourful designs. The Duchess looked closely at the clothes and swapped comments with guests around her.

Even though Kate seemed more uncomfortable here than she did during last week’s royal visit to a luxury department store (obviously), I do think this photo op helps her. Now Kate’s media team gets to plant even more stories about how close she is with the Queen, and how the Queen is guiding every step of her royal journey. Meanwhile, I’m still going to think that the Queen is all, “Seriously, you need to get off your arse, young lady.”

That was my first thought too. She is looking like such a waif now, and I just wish someone would feed her some fish & chips.
She’s probably too nervous to eat. Having to travel alone with the Queen and Prince Phillip, trying to be perfect, is probably nerve-wracking.
That said, there’s no one better to train her for this type of duty than the Queen.
I found that to be interesting how skinny she looked today. Puplums are supposed to give skinny girls curves and they cover heavy girls love handles. Peplums are basically the best thing ever and yet Kate still manages to look anorexic…I would hate to see what she looks like without that jacket!
Before I even read the story I wondered how soon someone was going to post about her weight. She looks terrifyingly thin.

They are people who work with charities and represent their country with what they are wearing as the least of their worries. I think the only exception to that was Diana who was hard working and stylish. If you want to see a hard working royal, look up The Queen, The Princess Royal, and The Prince of Wales.
Kate has done more engagements in her 1st yr than Diana did, mind you Diana was pregnant.
The color is pretty but the extra material around the waist is not pretty.
She needs some espresso eye liner, not black. and blue/black mascara, to make the whites of her eyes whiter and her eyes brighter.
This is not her best look by far.

She just needs less of all of her makeup. It took Diana a while to figure her “public” makeup out, too. She wore that garish teal liner for years.
In that bottom picture, there is someone standing directly behind Kate and his shoulders are just slightly above hers, making it look like they ARE hers and she has no neck. LOL.

Girl needs to learn to smize more. You don’t have to be either beaming with a smile or total bitch face. A pleasant ‘middle’ expression would maker her appear less bored and fake when she does smile.
But she is probably too hungry to smize.
That outfit is not good for her figure-and she definitely needs to put some weight on. She needs a make-over IMO. NEw make-up and hair. Her make-up makes her look older than she is and her hair is boring. Nothing dramatic just something to enhance her face.
I think she’s adorable, and is doing her best with what is an archaic role. That said-her skirts need to be a smidge longer when she’s out in public like this.

I noticed that too! Last week, she and Camilla were together in all the pics and smiling, and the Queen was never in the same frame with them because she was always talking with other people or inspecting a tree or whatever. I know the Queen has stuff to do and can’t just hang out with Kate when they’re in public, but whenever they’re together, it def seems like the Queen kinda ignores her. And I really hate Kate’s jacket! All that material by the shoulders/chest looks weird.
I was looking at pics on another site and there’s just so much material it makes me wonder if the suit was too big and they had to make adjustments for Kate’s weight. It’s a very awkward design to begin with, but there are darts in it that seem to show where it was taken in.
In the other pics, when she’s off by herself she’s smiling with the younger set, but when she’s within sight of the Queen or Phillip, she’s subdued.
Lainey has a ton of pics from the appearance today and in a couple of them, the Queen is kind of half-turned around and looking at Kate (or in her general direction) and the Queen just looks so surly. It almost looks like she’s just kind of grunting at Kate and saying/thinking something like, “Don’t do anything embarrassing!” It’s pretty funny. 🙂
Love the outfit – very striking on her (although I’d like to see an extra 2 inches on the hemline). She appears to be be trying to stay in the background, as is fitting, but she’s so pretty and tall that she stands out anyway. I imagine the detachment and grimace are efforts to not “pull a Diana” and overshadow everyone with her beauty and charm.

I’m no Middleton fan, but I think that’s a bit unfair. The people meets at these events always seem to say the opposite – that she’s very friendly and chatty. If she’s not overtly so, maybe she’s just following royal protocol. I don’t disagree with you that she’s a bit lazy, though, and I also don’t doubt that the queen isn’t too crazy about her.
I agree. I think the Princess is doing a great job trying to meet everyone’s expectations. But, I expect becoming big buddies with the Queen will take some time and a lot of effort.
Although I don’t know the Queen, I would think that she would only be close to those people who have demonstrated their loyalty and dependability over many years. Her granddaughter-in-law is from a class and background almost entirely foreign to her. The Queen is probably waiting to see if she has another problem princess on her hands or not before attempting to fully bring Katherine into her circle.
The Queen is all about the survival of the Monarchy. If the Duchess helps to further the cause, they will probably get along quite well.

I didn’t think about her laziness until I came to this site. I agree she is definitely a dull, maybe even not too bright of a person, hence the thoughts of laziness, but truthfully…
If they wanted her to work more, she would. All of them are just trying to do what ever they can to avoid her becoming the new Diana and Diana effect. Maybe they don’t want her out there so much in order to avoid her becoming more popular and getting Diana comparisons. Plus I don’t think she has her own PR team, that’s not in coordination with the Queen. She can’t move her little finger without being it approved by God knows how many people.
Kate shouldn’t use a clutch when she goes out to meet / greet until she’s really got the hang of things. A clutch makes it more awkward to shake hands freely and be engaging.

One of my old Diana books said that she preferred clutches because they could be tucked under the arm. If Kate did watch old Diana footage (as opposed to the Queen, who’s always carried handled bags, bynLauner, I think), that’s probably why.

Clearly she hasn’t been eating much since William went away – she looked for a while like she’d put on some much needed weight but dear God she looks like a bone rack now, unhealthily thin.

Exactly what i thought as i saw this pic.
In the video and in these photos, there is a shot of Kate from the side with her hair pulled back and the “scar” from her childhood head injury IS NOT THERE! Where is the “scar” Duchess Hair Extensions”?
I saw the scar in one of the pictures. And that can’t be extensions as you clip them in horizontally not vertically. When you look at the pics where her hair is laying on her back there is no difference whatsoever in color or texture, a dead giveaway to extensions.

There is a huge difference between her and celebrity.
Have you seen the pics where the skirt is riding up her thighs or how awkwardly she has to keep her knees together when sitting down? I don’t know about you but I don’t want to know about her upskirt situation, and you know some photographer’s lens is trained just so to get it. THAT is what we are talking about.
Her position means that for public occasions, skirt lengths have to be modest. She can wear a belt for william in private, we don’t care.

She is seen talking to the crowd and being engaging. It is easy to pic the worst pics to tell one story but it does not tell the whole story. Kate is to harmless to spend so much effort in demonizing her.

It manages to be both obsequious and unflatterring to Kate. If i were Kate, i’d be very worried that the Palace had put out/allowed such a piece to be written about me.
I didn’t realize how short her hems were until the DM helpfully supplied those upskirt pics. She really needs to lower the hems or everyone is going to see her goodies.
I like the outfit on her. Yes she is still thin, but she looks better than when her and Wills went to Canada. Also Kaiser I believe that protocol says she is always to hang back behind the queen, or royals senior to her. The only time she is considered a senior royal is when she is out with William, when she is alone she is less senior than most royals.

Kate is SO thin. I don’t think she’s put on any weight since Canada. At the end of the day I don’t think she’s a very happy person, which is weird considering everything she has. I guess the public scrutiny/over-exposure must be overwhelming.
I think this outfit, while trying to make her “more curvy”, is doing the exact opposite. These clothes look so unnatural on her – she doesn’t fill out any part of them. I’m also not loving the hair. I think she looks great with straight hair, and I wish she would go with that hairstyle.

The skirt length is what i noticed first on the DM’s pictures. She is exiting the car and the skirt is half way up her thighs…..Scrolled down quickly hoping that standing up it was longer, which it was but still too short.
She’s got great legs but unfortunately in her position, she needs to cover them up.

Looking at those photos in the Daily Mail, one can see how inappropriately short Kate’s skirt is. When she’s getting out of a car, her skirt rides high up her thigh. When she’s sitting down, because she can’t cross her legs, she’s at the mercy of the weight of her purse to make sure nothing can be seen from the photographer’s low vantage spot.
Imo, when she’s out with the Queen, she should wear skirts below the knee, just like the queen does. Instead she’s optimizing her photo ops to show as much skin as possible. Again, highly inappropriate. I guess she thinks that being viewed in this way makes up for her lack of social skills and intellect when going to these events with the Queen.

Are you kidding? Waity has no girlfriends. Not one. In all the years and photos and articles I have seen, never has there been one friend. She ditched them all to pursue PW — probably didn’t want the competition, or to be able to be at his beck and call. The problem with this suit is it’s trying to create a waist & end her torso where they do not exist on her. That belt is on her ribs not her waist. Great suit just not for her.
She seems to have a tailoring problem. She’s tall but she doesn’t buy for a tall girl. That’s why her hemlines appear short to people. She needs to buy long and have her suits tailored. It’s a pain I’m sure but it’s necessary for her to look well put together. It’s always that one little detail that can mess up an entire look.

Maybe Kate is “lazy.” But we’ve seen her talking to plenty of people during past royal engagements. She is with the Queen, doesn’t the Queen get to take the spotlight when they are out and about? Kate is not as important as the Queen so wouldn’t it make sense for the Queen to take center stage? It is HER jubilee, not Kate’s!

Hello! magazine and other media sites have been running headlines of “Kate kicks off Jubilee events” or “Kate visits Fortnum & Mason with the Queen” as if the Queen is the tag-along and afterthought, not the woman who has served her country for 60 years now and continues to be dedicated to her role.
She looks so tragically old. Her face hasn’t looked this bad in a long time.
As far as the clutch, it’s too formal for daytime functions. A purse would do just fine. If she must, she only needs one hand to carry that little thing, not two.
Providence, she looks old because she’s probably permanently on a diet, starving herself. It does affect one’s face.
Also, she should get a dresser and get her clothes tailored properly.. particularly if she continues to buy off the rack. She’s too tall for regular sizes so the skirts are too short and the waist is too high. Besides, she has to have them tailored to hide how thin she’s gotten. Princess Letizia of Spain is equally skinny (but petite) but her clothes are usually beautifully tailored to fit her tiny frame. Catherine should do the same as well as use a lady-in-waiting at least for public appearances.. Diana always had one behind her and she used to hand her her purse once she was meeting with people, getting flowers, hugging babies etc. Besides, the girl has no fashion sense whatsoever. She’s such a boring dresser, even for her casual outfits she shows no creativity.
Letizia may be very thin, but she doesn’t look frail and lethargic like Kate often does. Letizia has been Princess for almost 8 years now and not once has she looked like she didn’t want to be there. She is very charismatic and always has a smile on her face when interacting with the public.
She does almost 300 events a year, one of the “busiest” royals around.
Her clothes are cheap as heck, too. She wore a Mango blouse that cost 30 euros to an official event just last week, and she regularly wears Mango and ZARA. But she manages to look elegant and stylish without the expensive clothes, caked on makeup, and 4 hours in the hair salon. Some people have what it takes to look good no matter what they wear and they don’t look cheap even when their clothes are inexpensive.
Kate, unfortunately, is not one of those people. She needs everything to be perfect in order to look good. One wrong aspect of an outfit/makeup/hair and her whole look is ruined.
The lovely Letizia is certainly very thin but she has always been that way it’s just in her DNA, like her elegance and compassion, once upon a time she did wear expensive clothes like her mother-in-law Queen Sophia, but when the economy tanked in 2008 she started wearing inexpensive clothes to be more intune with the feeling of the nation and remained as elegant as ever, she also never gives the impression it’s all about the clothes. Kate is dieting to be this thin and everyone knows it, she also hunches a bit which gives her a meek weak hanger-on look , she needs some posture lessons. Princess Mary of Denmark took that route before she married and everyone remarks on how well she holds herself in public.

Kate and the Queen look great. Both very classy. I would prefer Kate’s skirt to hit at the knee and not above it because she is tall and its bordering on being to short. Not a huge fan of the sausage curls but she is young so she can get away with it.
I’m not fond of the outfit, although this color suits her. The hat looks nice as well.
I like the Queen. I miss the Queen mum…Harry takes after her more. And Im going to give Kate a chance to evolve into her role with Prince William but I have to say I do miss Princess Diana everytime I see pics of Kate and especially pics of Harry and William. Diana would have been very proud.

The palace is trying too hard to sell Kate. The woman is pretty much worthless and posing her with the Queen only enforces this fact. Just awful. No charisma, no nothing. And they’re stuck with her.

I wonder why when it comes to Kate, she’s always touted as being “classy like none of those hoes”. If the only range of comparison that people can make is to compare her to the likes of the Kardashians, then that doesn’t speak highly of Kate since she’s being compared to the bottom of the barrel.
Compare her to someone known for being truly classy, hardworking, and an overall good and decent person. Someone like Melinda Gates.
Anyone compared to Kim Kardashian and porn stars would almost always win.
And the Queen is not her mother-in-law. That would be Camilla.
For all this, “The Queen is scary, OMG! I would be nervous like Kate, too, the poor dear had to suffer!” the Queen acts as anything but. She always tries to make people laugh and puts them at ease. She can look very stern, but from other videos of her, she can also be very easygoing.

Kate’s clothes are sometimes too short for royal outings. Her nights of falling out of clubs well plastered are, showing off her underwear, I would think over for now !!!!
Okay, yes, she is a Royal, she should definitely look more interested, but from what I have seen, hello, this chick was a model! Of course she’s going to pose, that was her job and life. However, with this new position, she needs to up her game SOON if she wants real respect.
Kate did a catwalk at her university, that’s where she caught william’s eye but she has NEVER been a model, where did you get that idea from ?????
