Julianne Moore in green Tom Ford to ‘Game Change’ premiere: hot mess?

These are photos from the New York and Washington, DC premiere of Game Change, that HBO film about the 2008 election, centered around Sen. John McCain’s choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Julianne Moore plays now-former governor Palin in the film, and much like Palin, Julianne eclipsed everyone else at both premieres. Although… I don’t think Ed Harris (who plays McCain) even showed up. For the Washington premiere last night, Julianne wore this green Tom Ford dress which… doesn’t suit her. Look, I understand why all of these women are all over Tom Ford’s new line, but I don’t think it’s all that. This is an ill-fitting mess, and those sleeves are an unmitigated disaster. Tom Ford and Julianne are friends – you would think that he would do better by his girl.

And here’s Julianne two nights ago at the New York premiere. She wore Lanvin, which… sucks. I like the idea of a simple black-and-white gown, but the top part is just awful.

OMG, how adorable is her son Caleb?!?

As for Julianne’s performance as Gov. Palin – well, the reviews are coming in now, and while the film isn’t being universally praised, many say Julianne’s performance is wonderful. Like, Julianne performance as Palin is being described as sympathetic, fascinating and “flattering.” But not by Sarah Palin herself – Palin describes the film as “Hollywood lies” from HBO, a “pro-leftist, pro-Barack Obama machine.” Palin has told outlets that she wouldn’t see the film, though – producers still sent her a screener. Game Change premieres on HBO this weekend. Here’s the trailer again:

Really want to rip the sleeves off of that green dress.

    • Maguita says:

Aaah, I love that style, very much Evita-esque!

That woman looks so good, no matter her age. Don’t always agree with her style choice, but her skin, make-up, hair. Love it.

And I. Cannot. Wait. To. See.The. Movie.

Tomorrow night people! Woody Harrelson is also supposed to be really good in this one. I’ve read the book, and it scared the hillbillies out of me!!!

  2. Marjalane says:

Julianne Moore seems like she ought to be really smart; She’s always playing smart women, she’s a good actress, but I’m always disappointed when I see her in interviews. She comes across as kind of, not-smart.

  3. Maya says:

I can’t believe she’s 51! Until recently I assumed she was in her 40s. Whatever she’s doing, it’s working – her skin looks great.

  4. Cerulean says:

That is one of the ugliest dresses I have seen in quite sometime. Who, what, where, when and why is all I want to know.

  5. mia135 says:

The velvet sleeves ruin the look. But the green colour is lovely on her, as are the kohl-rimmed eyes, and fresh make-up.

I like the black and white outfit, although the fit could be better. The green clutch and hot pink lips add just the right amount of colour.

    • NYCGAL says:

I agree- her makeup looks beautiful!! I love the fresh, hot pink lips. I am so happy she hasn’t plumped up her perfectly shaped thinner lips with fillers. She is beyond beautiful!

  6. Kimbob says:

I agree. I also think the green color of her dress is kind of garish. I think it should have been more of an understated green.

Wearing this green dress she looks like some sort of Irish leprechaun…just too garish is all I can say. And yes, the cut & style is horrible!

The black & white number is not quite as bad, but both of these ensembles scream to me that poor Julianne doesn’t have an intuitive sense when it comes to fashion and what looks good on her. If there’s someone she’s paid to dress her like this, she needs to fire them.

  7. MissM says:

OMG she looks and sounds just like her!!!

  8. Agnes says:

i love julianne, but yeah, a hot mess, especially in that green awfulness of a dress.

  9. INeedANap says:

Ah. Typical. Sarah Palin is slamming the film, but has not — and will not — see it. I want to say I am surprised, but I am tired of yelling into the void.

On another note, what is up with these square necklines? Is it flattering on any woman to look like her boobs are cube-shaped?

  10. Lisa says:

I LOVE the color on her…I like the fabric…LOVE the opening/bust…the shoes, makeup, hair

Those sleeves are not the business…unless one is paying homage to Nolan Miller and his wonderful 80s “Dynasty” fashions…

  11. Happymom says:

She really gets it wrong fashion-wise most of the time, which is really a shame because she’s beautiful.

  12. Seagulls says:

That dress looks like it was taken from the Emerald City costumes from the Wizard of Oz.

  13. Sumodo1 says:

How can BOTH dresses look like they were made in a Home Ec class in HELL?

  14. mememe says:

I know Julianne is happy to shed that role from her existence.

The green dress is a bit too editorial and seems more fitting on the page of a magazine than in this setting somehow.

  15. Rose says:

Her son! Oh I LOVE him what a cute!

  16. Bubbling says:

oh her son is too cute! and I mean it in dateable sense

  17. Scarlet Vixen says:

As a redhead, I love Julianne Moor’s look–how she shows off her beautiful hair and freckles. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look GOOD. She always gets her clothes, makeup, shoes or all of the above horribly wrong.

  18. Catherine says:

I think Julianne is such a beautiful looking woman but she really, really needs a new stylist. She is just stunning otherwise.

Her son is so adorable and I love how she has a protective arm around him, it’s so sweet.

  19. Shontay says:

I love the gren dress. *shrugs* I was expecting ten times worse from the headline.

  20. Mouse says:

Her son is a cutie. He makes me think of Steve Smith on American Dad!

  21. Azurea says:

    I can’t stand Sarah Palin & I can’t wait to watch it!

  22. Alexis says:

For some reason redheads seem particularly likely to have unflattering makeup on the red carpet. There are so few of them that it’s too small of a sample to say (I’m thinking of Emma Stone, JM, and Christina Hendricks), but I’m wondering if a lot of stylists just don’t know how to do it right. There’s probably an opening for some sort of a specialist here — the problem is there are too few redheads (bottle or not) for it to be profitable.

  23. littlestar says:

I actually like the dress. The sleeves don’t fit her as well as they should, but it’s very vampy, kind of 50’s sex kitten. But still demure. And I think green always look great on red heads. I just watched the trailer, and I’ll definitely be watching the movie. Wasn’t going to before, but it actually looks like it’ll be really good! Plus, Julianne Moore is a great actor.

  24. Reece says:

The hair in the green dress bugs me more. It gives her Rumer Willis face.
Otherwise, not awful. She looks great.

  25. Hubbahun says:

I apologise in advance but I’ve never found her attractive in the least and in the photos in the green dress, she just looks hard-faced and mean. I agree the second dress is fug too but at least Julianne looks nice hair and make-up wise. But no, I find her to be very overrated.

  26. Cinesnatch says:

Not her best look. She looks like she left her house naked and ran through a fabric door on her way to the premiere.

  27. Madchen says:

Which Disney evil queen is she playing? (That’s a joke about the dress, not Palin.)

  28. Twez says:

I’m fairly certain that green monstrosity is a bridesmaid dress I wore in the early 90s.

  29. lucy2 says:

I like her in green, with her coloring, but I don’t care for that dress.
Did anyone see her on the Daily Show? She looked amazing.

  30. divax says:

Can’t this woman EVER dress well? She should fire her stylist – or maybe she doesn’t have one and that’s the problem

  31. Redpunk says:

I am shocked that this woman is the same age as Midge!!! she is so, so hot and sexy! and it always looks so effortless, like she just gets out of bed in the morning and tha daa: hotness! while Midge always looks so try hard and her fake ass “sexiness” always comes across as desperate old lady shenanigans!

  32. Ally says:

Tom Ford hates Julianne Moore… she should know from that hysterical whiny loser he made her portray in his lousy movie.

  33. mary simon says:

The dress might have been flattering without shoulder pads; the sleeves nicely tailored and form fitting and the bodice closing at the top of her cleavage and not opened all the way under her rack. I do like the colors. I think she should wear her hair down for a softer, sexier effect -the yanked back hair with the smokey eye makeup make for a harsh “cyborg” look.

  34. Cleveland Girl says:

Love her as an actress, but something about her in the role feels “off.” I can’t put my finger on it, but it just doesn’t seem right.

  35. Laura says:

    Her son is adorable! awwww

  36. Camille (The original) says:

Yeah the outfits aren’t great, but she is beautiful and a great actress. <3
