Shia LaBeouf shows off his hipster Unabomber look: love it or hate it?

Shia LaBeouf, whose appeal has always eluded me, was looking especially scruffy while while he was out and about pumping gas and popping by the post office in Sherman Oaks over the weekend. Of course, I was quick to label this Shia’s Unibomber look, which isn’t entirely off base because he’s currently starring in The Company You Keep as Ben Shepard, a former Weather Underground activist on the run from a journalist played by Robert Redford, who is also directing the movie. If you’ve heard anything at all about the Weather Underground, you’ll know that it was a radical group (mostly active in the 1970s) which aimed to violently overthrow the US government and targeted a number of government buildings in various bombing plots. So the Unibomber beard is part of Shia’s look for the movie, but he’s accessorized it here in his own hipster way by slicking his hair back and tying it off with a green rubber band. I’m not loving it.

Meanwhile, Shia has also been named #16 on GQ’s Stylish men Under 30 list, which says, “Long gone are his days of floppy pants and oversized T-shirts from the set of Even Stevens. Even making beer-runs, he’s dressed with a cooler confidence in his leading-man years.” I’m not putting much stock in this list since Kellan Lutz grabbed the #14 spot, and two Jonas brothers scored top 5 positions. At least they had the decency to leave Ryan Gosling off this list, but he probably would’ve made it too if he weren’t too darn old at age 31. Relatively speaking, of course.

This lousy douche looks horrible. The outside has finally caught up with his crumby attitude.

And oh please, Gosling is delicious and can dress circles around all these clowns in his age range.

Yeah the beard isn’t a great look. Makes him look much older than he really is.

if its for filming fine. i always have the impression there are only 10% of men left who can grow a beard on their own.

this beard looks hot at about 5 guys in the whole world. shia is not one of them.

      Lol!

I’m always impressed when a guy can grow a beard. Seriously, the lack of masculinity these days is a problem, haha!

That said, this is NOT a good look for Shia. 5 o’clock shadow? Yes. Unabomber beard? No. Grooming makes a hell of a difference!

I think beards are hot. I don’t have a problem with this one although I am not digging it. Kind of on the fence. I think Ewan Mcgregor has the best beard whenever he does – maintains and styles it well. He look gorgeous. I also like Clooney with beard.

I am still asking myself, how this creepy looking kid, became the new “it” guy in LA.

    Seriously. How did that happen.

    Yay! Robert Redford!

As for Shia – don’t get it. And as much as I hate to defend Megan Fox, he and Michael Bay were complete douchebags. Don’t know why either of them are celebrated. Or at least Shia, Michael Bay is pretty much a joke in Hollywood now.

I don’t have a problem with the beard but that greasy ponytail just screams ” 80′s movie pervert”. The filthy jeans don’t help. Gross!

He looks like hell. But I didn’t really care for the Transformers movies. I saw all of the 1st one and part of the 2nd one, he doesn’t float my boat as an actor.

I think he’s quite handsome but he’s just altogether a bit too wierd for me between the Amish dress sense and some of the comments about his mother.

When you don’t make hit movies…you grow a scraggly beard…when you grow a scraggly beard…you collect stray animals…that live in your beard…

I don’t know how many of you guys seen the Direct TV commericals but the beard reminded me of them.

it goes back to Even Stevens for me. he ws always on-cue funny. he has good comedic timing. i dont think he;s necessarily hot or well dressed though.

as for the beard. I almost never find fault with a beard. almost. i actually had a whole conversation at work this weekend about how much the beard raises the sex appeal. I’ll have to see this one in action b4 i make my decision

and @Samigirl yes Bale is hot all day every day. the beard is a killer lol

  20. Bodhi says:

He is extremely talented & I’m glad he manages to stay at least sort of under the radar. I don’t for one second think that he has any more drug or alcohol problems than any other college aged males, despite the stories that this & other sites keep pushing. (I know this story isn’t about that, but most of the past ones have been). I think he got pigeonholed as an “action star” after Transformers & unfortunately there aren’t enough good action movies to fill that niche. I think he’d be better served to look to indie roles for a little while

  22. Onyx XV says:

I used to enjoy him on Even Stevens also. He was funny, and the best thing on the silly show, really. He was also a cutie, and I still see shades of that cuteness in him at times, but not with this get-up. Of course it’s understandable if he needs the beard for a movie role, but once shooting is wrapped, that thing needs to go! I also wish he’d graduate from the immature skinny jeans and just grow up and put on some real man’s pants.

I generally love bearded men (my husband is one) but ONLY if the man is well-groomed about it. Shia’s beard looks gross and straggely but it’s for a movie, so whatever. The gelled hair is the real problem, ick,

I can’t say I blame him for growing a beard, even if it’s not for a movie, considering how he gets picked on in bars and what not.
