Sofia Vergara talks about being hot: “I’m not ashamed, it has opened doors”

Sofia Vergara covers the April issue of InStyle Magazine. I’m not sure if this cover is just a really bad scan or if the editors just really screwed up the Photoshopping work, but this is a horrible cover. Thankfully, the pictorial is much prettier. It’s difficult to take a bad photo of Sofia (which makes this cover so weird). Usually, Sofia’s interviews follow the same basic path: she talks about her body, and her boobs specifically. She’ll tell a few jokes, and she’ll talk about being Colombian. While she does cover some of that stuff in this interview, I also learned something new about her: her brother was kidnapped and killed in Colombia in 1998. Did you know that? I had never heard that.

She’s not ready to have a family with Nick Loeb: “I guess I am going to think about freezing my eggs.”

On meeting Nick Loeb: “The most important thing was that he was very handsome,” the Colombian actress says about her initial attraction to the businessman. “But he was also very funny, talking sh–– to me like a normal person.”

Her brother Rafael was kidnapped and killed in 1998 in Colombia – Sofia was already living in Miami, and she relocated her family to the US: “You can’t just sit in your house and think about the tragedies. That’s when people get depressed and their lives stop.”

She’s turning 40 years old in June: “I don’t really care,” she says. “But doesn’t that sound hideous? I remember thinking when my mom was 40 that she was already done.”

Making the “hot” lists: “I am on these lists for ‘best ass’ or ‘most beautiful’ with women like Mila Kunis, who’s, like, 20 years old. I have a son that age! Part of my career has always been because of the way I look. I’m not ashamed. It has opened doors. But I also know that if I didn’t have something else, I’d be long gone.”

She loves jewelry: “I love jewelry—rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, you name it. If my stylist didn’t stop me, I’d go out looking like a Christmas tree.”

Her mom: “I grew up watching my mother do her makeup. It would be 7 AM, and she would be putting in hot rollers to take us to school. For us, that’s normal!”

On her idea of a perfect date: “A great date? Dinner and a movie. Or sports, watched in the venue, not on TV. No canoes. No water. Nothing to mess up the hair.”

Her guilty pleasure TV show: “I watch ‘Revenge.’ It’s a soap opera but so classy – and everyone is beautiful.”

On her least favorite school subject: “I always hated Math. The moment I run out of fingers, I can’t count anymore.”

[From InStyle, People]

I think it would be easy to dismiss Sofia as rather vapid, but I think she’s aiming for cheeky and half of this interview was said with a wink, in an attempt to be self-deprecating.

As for all of the Nick Loeb stuff – the impression I always get is that he’s all about her, he wants to marry her and settle down and have a baby and she’s happy the way things are. I love the statement, “I guess I am going to think about freezing my eggs.” She’s just going to THINK about it. That’s her concession. She’s awesome.

I would. I don’t care if she lays the accent on with a trowel every time she leaves the house.

    That is all.

  2. Anna says:

If those are her legs in the last pic I am the Queen of Sheba!

  3. hohojeejo says:

They airbrushed her kneecap out ! LOL, those damn kneecaps!! So unflattering

  4. Ade says:

Love love the pic where she is in white though it does’nt even look like her

I agree! That InStyle cover is a nightmare. Her nose looks like it was made out of Playdoh. The styling for the whole shoot is a little off.

But I LOVE her! And her attitude. She’s a really great representation of a woman who isn’t a stick figure and who isn’t 12 years old.

Goop, look and learn. Hair can look so nice when not deep-fried straight to meh!

I love this woman; I mean I really love her. I told my husband if there was anyone that could get between us it’s Sofia. The little blurb that you got does not sound to me like she is vapid. She is a very funny person and I believe that she was “winking” through the whole thing. Plus, when I read anything she says, I can hear her in my head with that awesome accent. It cracks me up every time.

It is truly terrible about her brother. I really hate hearing stories like that. Did you guys know her son is a product of rape? I read that somewhere but can’t waste the bandwidth to open up another window for Google. I am in Costa Rica so there you have it.

    • Molly says:

No, her ex-husband is the father. She made a rape joke on the View that made people uncomfortable because they aren’t aware of it as a trope on Spanish-language soap operas. Basically, someone on the view was commenting that she was too young to have a teenage son. It’s a common storyline in telenovelas that some young woman is raped and forced to have the baby of her rapist.

Columbia in the 80s and 90s was a really, really dangerous time for…everyone, so not totally surprised about her brother (that’s still really sad though). She is hawt and funny though <3

  9. Molly says:

I read that she was in her last year of dental school before she was discovered.

I’ve always been a ridiculous giddy fan girl when it comes to Sofia Vergara, but I’ve never read an interview of hers before this.. I’m disappointed. She sounds shallow (way focused on beauty and looks as being “important”) and prissy (doesn’t want to do anything that will mess up her hair). She seems sort of empty. I want to keep fan girling. 🙁 Maybe if it was on video it would be more tongue in cheek? I just find all of her responses to be so “L.A.”…yuck. I do like her answer about freezing her eggs, though. That was badass.

    • Inid says:

Oh no, you just got to check out some other interviews or read this one in full…it’s just excerpts. And she does work out with Gunnar Peterson and she is a good mom, she worked hard to put her son through private school and takes care of her family. That makes up for any prissiness in my opinion.

Besides, I love her and I agree w/ Kaiser and everyone else that you already visualize her during this interview, all with a wink and a smile. I might buy this issue of InStyle 🙂

I dont think she is vapid at all. I think she is refreshingly honest. Most women say they got where they did based on talent when we know alot of stars got where they are because of their looks. At least she doesnt pretend to be super talented or play the I was such an ugly duckling fake story line. I appreciate that she is honest about more doors being open to her because she is good looking because its true.

Whats inside counts more than looks BUT in Hollywood this is not the case at all. If it was we would not ever have to see Kim K or the like.

    • Jacqueline says:

Its not just in Hollywood but beauty helps tremendously in every job. Its an asset a woman has to have. It makes eveything easier. Notice how if a woman is unattractive no one even wants to hear what she has to say. No a hot person the first description of them will be “oh she is hot!”. Notice also how fat anf ugly kids get less attention since birth and most likely dont amount to much in life.

  13. B says:

I really don’t like this woman at all, and I do think that she is vapid and incredibly arrogant.

  14. lucy2 says:

All of those photos are strange, she’s so pretty, why mess with them?
I do like her attitude – she knows her looks opened the door, but she needed something to back it up, and I think she’s proved that on Modern Family.

  15. JuliaDomna says:

    That cover is… f***ed.

  16. Dirty Martini says:

Wow. Her face is absolutely beautiful with that mass of hair pulled back. Dont get me wrong, she is definitely a very lovely woman with her hair all down and tumbling.

But just stunning with the hair subdued and the facial features accented.

    Stunning.

  17. nevada says:

Well mila kunis is actually 28 years(almost 30)old,not 20 but she does look young.

  18. loreran smith says:

    She looks good for 39.
