Julia Roberts in conservative black-and-white: adorable or school-girl fug?

Last night was the LA premiere of Jesus Henry Christ, the film which Julia Roberts co-produced with her sister Lisa. Julia doesn’t star in the film – it features performances by Michael Sheen and Toni Collette, two wonderful actors. But Julia was still THE STAR of the red carpet, meaning that she was the most photographed person there, and considering Julia’s red carpet appearances are few and far between, let’s talk about her! What do you think of her school-girl ensemble? Eh. While I like that Julia is the rare over-40s actress who doesn’t feel the need to tart it up and show off too much skin, I feel like this look is “too young” in a completely different way. I actually thought Julia was in costume as a Catholic school-girl for a moment, you know? Still, the dress looks comfortable. And Julia still has those great legs.

Does anyone else think Julia needs to stop parting her hair down the center? She needs to mix it up with a side part, I think.

Julia’s little niece Emma was there too. She went monochromatic as well. I would love to see Julia and Emma switch outfits – Julia in the smart suit, Emma in the high-necked black dress. Right? They should have switched.

And here’s Michael Sheen! So cute. Rachel McAdams was not with him.

Kaiser-did anybody at C/B already do a story about the huge animal shelter Mickey Rourke is building in Romania? I know it’s not very juicy but it’s such a sweet story!

Julia looks ok..has she had work done? She is aging pretty well if she hasn’t..the outift is a bit young for her imo.

I can never use the word “adorable” for Julia Roberts (even if we’re talking just about her clothes) — something she’s anything but.

  3. ladybert62 says:

The outfit almost looks “kinky” – you know, some pervert’s idea of a school girl outfit on a grown woman – weird.

  4. grace says:

Rachel McAdams was there but didn’t walk the red carpet

I can’t decide whether I like her outfit or not. But I do like the shoes, the heels are a little high for my taste, I prefer shorter heels, but otherwise I like them.

Her neice looks good to, even like the shoes on her.

Maybe Julia shops at the local Nunnery’s church thrift sale? That outfit is BAD!

I watched Closer the other night. She was so horribly miscast. She has no sexuality (and no personality or charm as her character) in this movie, so it was never believable that Clive Owen and Jude Law were obsessed with her. Natalie Portman was great.

I don’t hate the dress at all; it works on her for some reason. But those shoes are horrible. I know that she is supposed to be above fashion but really would it have killed her to get a better pair of shoes. Those look like she stopped at a DSW on the way to the premiere.

Emma looks ok. I like her shoe choice though.

Arghhhh why the shoes!!! they are fugly beyond words!

  10. Lisa says:

I agree that she and Emma should switch outfits. I think I want Emma’s haircut.

    Cute dress but not age-appropriate.

  13. Jessica says:

    I think she looks marvelous!!

I think she looks really good in that dress. Her legs look great. I even like the sandals. I also think Emma would have looked adorable in that same outfit. I’d love that dress for myself, actually!

  15. Roxy750 says:

Yes, thank you. I am dying for a side part! Please…

    • Kim says:

AGREED! So sick of seeing this particular hairstyle – middle part with loose curls at ends. Side parts are way better.

  16. La.uren says:

Julia’s face is tweaked..her nose is dreadful. Waxy is not pretty.

    • Kim says:

She has always looked like a witch to me. Literally — she has a witch nose. She has never been a looker.

  17. lisa says:

I think if Julia was wearing shoes like Emma it would have worked better.. Demure on the top..kickass on the bottom..

  18. Kim says:

OMG!!! I had a maternity dress like this. A young girl (under 18) could possibly get away with this but she is wayyyyyy to old to wear this and the shoes dont match. Winter up top (dress) and summer down below (shoes).

Julia doesnt know how to dress for the life of her. Even with a stylist she never looks put together and always looks to be in costume.

  19. Zimmer says:

    Emma’s a beauty!

  20. Firecracker says:

    Julia’s eyes really scare me.

rhat black dress with white collars&cuffs!
first it reminded me of alexa chung
then it reminded me of wednesday adams

    gives me the heebiejeebies

  22. MrsNix says:

If she’d worn an updo, it would have been really adorable. With her hair down, it compounds the “too young” problem, and ruins the whole thing.

  23. Britt says:

I can see grey hairs, she needs to see a hair stylist, she has plenty of money and no excuses.

  24. original kate says:

julia is WAY too old for this dress.

    good god, she’s tedious.

  25. mememe says:

The dress is adorable. Hate the shoes with it.
