Cate Blanchett to Beyonce: GIRL, THIS IS HOW YOU DO FEATHERS.
My girl Cate Blanchett is just perfection, isn’t she? Blanchett wore a Fall 2012 Alexander McQueen – which surprises me a little bit, because Cate was really close to the late Alexander McQueen, and if she was going to wear something McQueen, I would have thought it would be something vintage. But now we know – Cate supports Sarah Burton, the line’s new head designer. Cate was Burton’s first choice, apparently. They were each other’s dates.
Look, on another woman, this look would have been a total disaster. But I love this on Cate. As it always with Cate, it’s simply about how she wears it. She can pull off the strangest thing, and she never lets a dress wear her. Look at the detailing on this dress too – the whole thing is made of those rich-looking feathers. You seriously need to go back and look at Beyonce’s tacky monstrosity of a dress, then come back and look at this. Beyonce = Busted, Budget, Las Vegas Diva. La Blanchett = Beautiful, Perfect, Classic, Amazing Style Icon.

I would have said black raven but she still looks wonderful. One of the best dressed of the night for me.
The bottom part looks a bit too much like hair for me, but it’s Cate, so she can wear a brown potato sack and still carry it off.
Somewhere Marchesa are crying at their sheer ineptitude in putting together a feather dress that looks a tenth this good.

Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic, classy, elegant, yet with a flare and a wink of fantasy. Any other actress would have totally disappeared, drowned in this dress, but Cate is simply regal.
Everything is perfection – the makeup and hair complement the dress and complete this gorgeous ensamble.

Cate looks beautiful…she looks younger than Florence Welch! I like the top of her dress but not the bottom. The bottom looks like a bunch of Beyonce’s old lace-fronts sewn together.
Trim the feathers around the arm holes and it would look better. In the 3rd pic who is wearing the chandelier???

For some reasons, the bottom of the dress makes me think of a dozen of skinned toy poodles. I assume this is how this would look.

Now this is how you wear feathers! Stylish, sophisticated and classic. Kate knows you don’t have to pour yourself into a tight, sheer dress (ie Beyonce) to win fashion kudos. Tight + Sheer= cheap.

I watched the live stream of the event and when Cate and Florence arrived together, with Zellweger right behind, I thought what a way to end the red carpet. Brilliant. But then…
Pipsqueak McGee and his soon to be bride actually felt they should be the final arrivals. Worst yet, it was actually Rhianna who walked at the end and late no less. Who do these people think they are?!
LOL! That’s Pipsqueak for you. I find it funny that since it became known that they were engaged, no major tab has really cared that much. Although, I don’t believe they have enough self-awareness to realize this. In their mind, they are A-list superstars who will rival the Brangelina wedding.

I’m going to politely disagree; it feels like she’s been tarred and feathered, or gobbled alive by angry birds of prey….and she’s slouching (she RARELY slouches…..) — is the dress heavy?

Don’t like the dress. I am not a feather fan, but cate wears it well. No accessories, just the dress, which is all it needs. With a Big Dress like that, it would be overkill.

Not loving the bottom half of this dress, but I really do like the hair. In general, I’m a fan of how she dresses for events. It seems that she recognizes the difference between trying to be a bit distinctive, and choosing an outfit that’s outrageously overdone to prove how ‘artistic and non-conformist’ she is.
Every time is see her all done up it makes me think that this is how Meg Ryan could have aged had she not tinkered so much with her face. Had the same grace throughout much of the ’90s.
