Prince Harry went to Washington to get an award for his work with veterans

Do you know what I did Monday evening? I watched Bones and around 9 pm, I took a nice dose of Nyquil, and then I was out like a light by 9:30. Do you know what I should have been doing? I should have been driving like a demon to Washington, DC to stalk Prince Harry. Yes, Harry was in town, the closest he’s ever been to me (that I know of), and I missed my golden opportunity to create the world’s first ginger-Indian hybrid baby. Think of the lack of sunburns and the gorgeous ginger hair!!! (Actually, it’s a lie when people say Indians don’t sunburn – I had some really bad sunburns in my youth, but I digress.) I doubt Harry would have been into it or anything (he goes for blondes, it’s been pretty well established), but we could have had a drink together. And then after a few dozen cocktails, we would retire to his room and then… in nine months, Prince Mohandas Phillip Sanjay Henry Rajiv would be born. *bells chiming*

Harry was in Washington to receive the 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award. Colin Powell presented it to him! Which… I would have loved to see that. It was Harry’s first trip to DC, and I’m including some of the photos we have of Harry outside of the Ritz-Carlton. Here’s more:

Prince Harry has now joined the ranks of Bono and Bill Clinton. Harry, 27, arrived in Washington, D.C., to receive the 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award from the Atlantic Council, an international affairs think tank, at its annual awards dinner on Monday. The U2 frontman and former president are among the awards event’s past honorees.

The prince, in his first-ever visit to the U.S. capital, was recognized for his work with military veterans, servicemen and women that he does through the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. He accepted the award on his brother’s behalf. The award’s presenter, General Colin Powell, referred to the prince’s military title, Captain Harry Wales. Powell spoke of the prince’s ability to bring a more youthful, female crowd to the usually staid dinner. “For that, we really, really thank you,” Powell joked.

“Prince Harry has wholeheartedly continued the royal tradition of advocating on behalf of society’s less-fortunate members,” Powell said. “Through his efforts, he restores confidence to those who have been wounded in service to his country.”

Taking the stage in the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton in a black tuxedo, Harry began his remarks by laughing and saying, “This isn’t daunting at all. Generally, I obviously don’t feel that I’ve done nearly enough to deserve [this award],” he said, before speaking of his work with wounded veterans. “The very least we owe them is to make sure that they and their brave families have everything they need through the darkest days – and, in time, regain the hope and confidence to flourish again.”

The prince’s presence was unusual even for the especially distinguished crowd inside the ballroom, but it really stirred the crowd of several dozen screaming people gathered outside. Among the prince’s many local fans was Maria Fera, 19, a student at nearby George Washington University.

“I’m going to cry if I don’t see him,” Fera, who had waited more than three hours, told PEOPLE. “I have to study for finals, but this is a dream for me.”

Earlier Monday afternoon, Harry joined a group of 125 people, including Dr. Jill Biden, for a reception at British Ambassador Peter Westmacott’s residence. Looking happy and relaxed, the prince personally greeted a group of 30 wounded soldiers, shaking hands and listening to their stories.

In honor of his visit and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Harry dug some dirt to plant a tree – fittingly, a fire-red maple called October glory.

[From People]

“…A fire-red maple called October glory…” That he planted in honor of our gestating baby, Prince Mohandas. Anyway, I hope Harry enjoyed his time in Washington. I hope he got to do some sightseeing too – Washington is one of my favorite cities to visit. GAH! I love the Smithsonian so much. And the Lincoln Memorial. And the Vietnam Memorial, which is so sad and beautiful. I bet Harry didn’t get much of an opportunity to sight-see though. He was too busy sampling the local delicacies (DC sluts).

Kaiser, lol at your fantasy, can just imagine you strapping on your astronaut diapers and speeding off to DC. I spit my tea out at “bells chiming.”

I knew a family in my old neighborhood where the mom was Indian and the dad was a fair-skinned guy of some Anglo descent…and their son had his mom’s coloring except that he had red hair. So incredibly striking. Just like your gestating prince.

Side note: Harry looks hot but he needs to ditch the double-breasted suits, so stodgy.

  7. Cathy says:

lmao@ Kaiser, you made me spit out my coffee laughing. Harry’s a handsome fun loving fellow. I love him bunches more than the stodgy Prince William

Kaiser I can’t believe you haven’t picked up the item in DM about how the RAF is telling William he has to choose between them and royal duties!!!

  11. LAK says:

Oh Kaiser, i am afraid we would have to death match for him!

  12. GoodCapon says:

    Well done Harry!

It’s a shame that Will & Duchess Do-little have to go out and steal his thunder (they’ve already done this in the past.)

  13. Reece says:

    *distracts Kaiser* Look it’s Fassbender!

*thinks of a new reason for him to come back to Cali*
    He needs more “training”.

How was this not announced before the event?!?! Seriosuly it feels like an out of the blue visit. How are stateside Harry stalkers supposed to cope with some after the fact news?

That said he looks a little unkempt and he needs to ditch the suit. The Brits make some lovely slim cut, single breasted suits (British tailoring really is the best) that would do so much better. You know his ass has access to the best that Saville Row offers. Why go with something so dated?

Just glad William was too *cough* busy to accept this. If the Brits know what’s good for them they’ll push Harry to the front and leave the boring events to William. They were stupid to ever think Waity could make William happen. Those two go down like lead ballons. Harry is the future if the British Monarchy wants to stand a chance.

    • CookieJar says:

I couldn’t agree more about the suit. Also noticed that William wears the same dated type all of the time. It ages them, esp William so much.

      +1

My ginger prince! And I LMAO’d at the “Prince Mohandas” bit. Girrrl, you already know I would be all up in that ginge, if I was in DC. I love that Harry is so involved with injured veterans. It really deflects from what his critics say (i.e. “The Party Prince”). He’s great, the ginge is great, we’ll make adorable Hispanic, red-headed minis one day, annnnnd that’s it.

  16. Wallis says:

Ya’ll stop talkin about my baby

  17. Jordan says:

“A fire-red maple called October glory”

I wonder if that’s what he nicknamed his peen? Sounds delicious. haha, sorry.

  18. Duchess says:

Iseepink…the award was announced two weeks ahead of time. Lots of UK coverage.

Kaiser, don’t worry he wasn’t even there 24 hours so no slut got anything you didn’t.
