Was Brad Pitt just made the new “face” of Chanel No. 5 (perfume for women)?

Last year, Louis Vuitton paid Angelina Jolie a truck full of money to become one of the new faces of their on-going “Core Values” campaign. The campaign – which has also featured ads by Mikhail Gorbachev and Bono – tries to unite the Louis Vuitton brand with “icons” who are famous for being more than a pretty face. Angelina shot her LV commercials in Cambodia, and honestly, the ads are more likely to get people to visit Cambodia than buy an LV bag. But it was interesting – Angelina Jolie, up for the shill. Up for being “the face” of an ad campaign.

So is it any surprise that Angelina’s fiancé is also up for the shill? Brad Pitt has done commercials before, of course – but most of his commercial work is done outside of America. According to E! News, Brad is being named the face of… Chanel No. 5? Er… that’s not a men’s cologne, correct?

Yes, it’s a scent for a woman, but if ever there was a man pretty enough to render that particular point moot, it’s Brad Pitt.

Proving yet again that his musky appeal knows no bounds, E! News has exclusively learned that Angelina Jolie’s better half has signed on as the new face of Chanel’s signature No. 5 scent.

Reps for neither Pitt nor the perfume house have commented on the new partnership, but a source tells E! News that the actor will be shooting his first perfume ad in London sometime this week (the superstar family has set up their most recent homestead in the UK).

And for his endorsement troubles, Pitt will be bringing home some serious bacon for the Jolie-Pitt clan, with his paycheck for the spot somewhere in the seven-figures. The Chanel No. 5 ad will be released overseas sometime later this year. Makes scents to us.

[From E! News]

Previous “faces” of the Chanel No. 5 brand include Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou and Catherine Deneuve. So… Brad would be in good company, I guess. I wish they would bring Deneuve back… with Brad. I would wear No. 5 if Brad and Deneuve were shilling together. No, I wouldn’t. No. 5 gives me a headache. Still, it’s always nice to know that Brad still gets a lot of offers for commercial work. Maybe he’s going to blow all of his Chanel money on the wedding?

    eeewwww.

it really takes away from their humanitarian image when they are shills for corporate brands.

i still think he is a vapid pretty boy, underneath it all.

    • Rhea says:

But so many people screaming that they are faking their charities and hungry for publicity, so might as well give them something more to scream. Can’t make everyone like you for whatever you do sometimes. 😉 With that being said, I am not his fan. But curious to see how the ad will turns out.

    • Emma says:

Lol….you really just believe whatever tabloids and gossip say right?

Just like how tabloids tell us Jennifer Aniston looks in her 20’s and Angelina Jolie looks late 40’s….yet when you look at a close up high pic, it’s easy to see who’s looking what age

      http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/685/anistonjolie.jpg/

btw are you angry Jolie’s Maleficent just got an amazing cast with many oscar nominated and olivier award nominated actors/actresses? Weren’t you people saying how “for a big movie nobody else wants to work with her”

  2. Gaia says:

He is known to have a very poor hygiene so the irony of having him sell a parfume and then for women is hilarious.
But hey, money must come from somewhere.

    • GMAFB says:

I see someone is a tabloid reader. Repeating a lie doesn’t make it true.

    • Millie says:

No, the stinky ones are Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio.

The BI was about Dicaprio, go check blind gossip, it’s solved!
      here: http://blindgossip.com/?p=32213

      • carrie says:

        don’t forget Keanu Reeves

      • Loren says:

And don’t forget the rumors about stinky Robert Pattinson, Zac Efron,Christina Aguilera, Courtney Cox, Vanessa Paradis, Kendra, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, AnnaLynn McCord, Matthew MacConaughey, Russell Crowe to name a few.
Again these are just rumors, same with Brad Pitt. Doesn’t make them true.

    • cameron says:

So, because it’s a blind item that you attributed to Brad that makes it true.

He can’t smell too bad cuz his ex’s can’t stop talking about him. Yet, he never speaks of them.

I’m not a fan of Chanel no.5, but good for Brad.

Can’t wait to see the ads.

  3. watchingyoubitchh says:

    good for him

  4. original almond says:

He looks SO smarmy in that last photo.

    • Marjalane says:

He’s been looking smarmy in every photo! Maybe he doesn’t actually stink, but he looks like he does. He’s past the age where the long hair and dirty beard is attractive. Chanel would have been better off to have a Clooney or a cleaned up Colin Farrel, or even a Ryan Gosling in a tux as their poster boy.

  5. Dibba says:

Do they really need more money?

    • T.C. says:

They have 6 children with a wedding coming up so yes those college trustfunds don’t fill up by themselves.

  6. lower-case deb says:

in that last photo: “wha? oh. i’m waiting for my barber.”

  7. Rosalee says:

Chanel No 5 is all about fantasy..pitt is in a happily committed relationship and has six kids..when I see him all I can think about is he smells like a blunt and needs to wipe off the brownie crumbs from his beard.

  8. Bite me aka aniston says:

    Make that money honey

  9. carrie says:

who will direct the commercial? Fincher? James Gray? Andrew Dominik?

  10. Dibba says:

I guess therapy for six kids will get expensive

  11. Jenna says:

I don’t know why I laughed so hard at this information when I found out about this, but I did. LOL 😀

  12. GMAFB says:

@ Gaia, BI’s and “stories.” LOL, thank you for proving my point. BI’s and tabloids are one and the same….lies.

    • Gaia says:

Oh yeah tabloids are all lying except when they get exclusive stories from the stars themselves and pay them millions for baby photos. Hypocrisy your name is “deluded fan”.

      • GMAFB says:

The only person who is “deluded” is you TABLOID HAG. Funny how NONE of the caca the tabloids have printed in the last 7 years years has come true. Keep hope alive hag….waste another 7 years of your life on lies. Have a nice day, I am done with your stupidity.

  13. samira677 says:

I don’t know why people get into such a rage when it comes to Brad and Angelina. Nobody complains when Julia Roberts, George Clooney, or Nicole Kidman does an ad campaign but attack Brad and Angelina. It’s weird how hypocritical people are.

    • carrie says:

i always complain when rich people do ad campaigns and i don’t care whomsoever Bono,Brangelina,Dicaprio,Clooney,Kidman,JLo …especially when they often did them

    • Investigate says:

so true- and, unlike those other celebs, you KNOW that a healthy percentage of Brad & Angie’s money goes to charity. How do we know? Because Fox News has been investigating their donations AT LEAST once a year trying to find fault and have yet to do so 7-8 years later. I also think that Angie’s $10M from LV went almost all if not all to Cambodian charities- someone from LV said as much. But of course, it’s all evil & bad if Brad & Angie do it.

      • Rhea says:

Wow… that’s interesting… It seems Jolie-Pitt is always the target for the media, waiting them to make any mistake…yikess…

    • diane says:

Hi, guess all these people who attack are simply fans in closet. Imagine the effort to read thru an item which is probably not even true and then commenting on it. I also think they criticize first and read your comment and then secretly enjoy it.
These people – they are so brad that their lives have gone to pitts I say.

    • D1 says:

Those celebrities, and most others, also don’t get the kind of fierce & vocal defense from their fans that Pitt & Jolie do when they are criticized.

Pitt & Jolie provoke intense, often irrationally over-the-top responses from people, both positive & negative. That’s actually a good thing for them – indifference or lukewarm approval/disapproval from the public is what bodes ill for celebrities.

  14. lamamu says:

Umm…Brad Pitt hasn’t been pretty enough for a perfume campaign in a very long time.

    • cameron says:

Brad is hotter than most of the actors out there. Definitely, actors in his age group.

    • pwal says:

Ummm… the last thing I would expect is for a young, pretty man to represent Chanel No. 5. First of all, would a young, pretty man be astute enough to buy Chanel No. 5 for a lover? Would he afford it? Or would he be confused as the recipient versus the giver?

People can diss Brad Pitt all they want, but he is still attractive, attractive enough to be a spokesman. And he has gone through a noticeable evolution over the last 20 years. He looks like he can afford Chanel (namely because he can afford it), he seems to care about the details, as demonstrated by the time it took to design Angelina’s ring, therefore, having a man who has qualities beyond his physical beauty represent a product seems like a good idea.

  15. poppy says:

    *groan*

  16. olivia says:

Pitt to front women’s perfume adds credibility to the theory that Pitt is a woman trapped in a man’s body.

    • diane says:

Ha. And you have since long proved yourself that you are a shrew in human’s body.

  17. cupidityrox says:

Who’s next then? Russell freaking Brand? Chanel used to be so hoity toity & now they’re just like every other no count shitty brand. If I’m gonna shell out X amount of money on ridiculously expensive & overpriced brands @least make it worth my while by using “genuinely” goodlooking people in their ads in other to con me into thinking i’ll look like them if I buy/wear their products:-)

  18. diane says:

Actually don’t think this is true… But have been itching for a brange column.
Chanel must be hiding smthing if this is true – probably their ad will feature ang telling him ‘You smell nicer than me’ and ta da he’s on chanel 5

  19. serena says:

holy god how beautiful is he..

  20. Jayna says:

I have never found Brad hot. I don’t go for blonde pretty boys or aging pretty boys.

    • Chatcat says:

Ditto…and Boo has more of my feelings written too. I look at him or watch one of his movies and my head goes from side to side slowly like my brain is trying to figure it out…it being why so many people are obsessed by this guy?

  21. Boo says:

I don’t know what the dude smells like;all I know is that he often LOOKS like he needs to get closer to a bar of soap and some warm water. This is from many pictures I have seen over the years with my very own human eyes. I agree that having him represent Chanel is an unusual choice, but I’ve never seen his allure anyway. His speech…pattern has always irritated me. (Note: I’ve also heard him speak on film, which is how I know it has irritated me. This is a personal opinion only, and attacking me for it will not change my feelings, thank you).

  22. mln76 says:

It’s hilarious how little they have to do to cause a controversy. I mean GOOP has sunk to selling frozen vegetables overseas and I’m pretty sure George Clooney would do a commercial for toilet paper or adult diapers as long as it doesn’t air in the US. Chanel is a pretty high end low key choice.

    • Janet says:

      Please.
GOOP, George, Leo and other A listers have been selling out for years and have been criticised for it.
Now that Brad and Angelina are doing it they are being criticised too.
As for Chanel being high end, that was over 20 years ago.

      • Carolyn says:

Indeed. Chanel stopped being classy years ago. Karl jumped the shark quite a few collections ago. Now it’s only about the money, money, money from the masses. I’d like it if Brad does an ad talking about buying a special perfume and it ends up being for his daughters…that would be way cute. Tres adorables.

      • mln76 says:

Chanel is a high end brand the perfume is definitely dated and old fashioned but it’s sold at high end department stores not Rite Aid or Walgreens.

      • Janet says:

In Australia you can buy Chanel No.5 from the chemist (drug store). Guess its just in the US its still pretending to be high end.

  23. lower-case deb says:

are you sure it’s Chanel no. 5,
and not Channel 5, the proverbially weird, redheaded stepchild of british terrestrial tv?

btw, if he’s known for his BO, then i guess, a good match for perfume advertising.
“Do you stink? Do you know you stink? Does everybody? Then use Chanel no. 5!”

  24. pwal says:

    I don’t know… Brad could work.

Right now, the commercials with Kidman and Tautou are big, gorgeous and ethereal. Maybe Brad’s commercial could be as simple as a man buying one of the most revered scents of all time for his ladies.

Just spit-balling here… I just remember an NPR radio show about Chanel No. 5 and how all of the female called gushed about their first time getting it and the subsequent times they got it. They were very emotional and romantic about what the perfume meant to them.

  25. lisa says:

brad has been doing overseas ad campaigns for years. Some people act like this is a first. Why do you need to be critical is just unreal. Athletics do it all the time. And so do actors.

The ad shots of Brad have always been funny and interesting. So I will be looking forward to this one too. The Softbank Ads were so cute and funny.. As well as that commercial he did for that beer ad one year for the super bowl.

    • Janet says:

Haters gon’ hate. If it wasn’t about this it would be about something else. I don’t get it, though. All that negative energy doesn’t do anything but make you old and tired.

  26. mel says:

I don’t care if actors do side work for extra money…I would do it. I do hate it when its hypocritical (Paltrow) and they try to do it on the sly. Additionally…Pitt and Jolie are constantly named as top celebrities who give big money to charities…so even though I’m not their biggest fan…I respect the fact they donate big time to a variety of charities. And lets not forget all of his contributions to New Orleans.

  27. spinner says:

This is a very poor choice in my opinion. They are going to have to sand-blast that man to make him presentable. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how they position this.

    • Hipocrisy says:

I wouldn’t have chosen an actor to advertise a female perfume but maybe they have another type of campaign to position a man as a spokeperson.

It can all go down to rejuvenating an old iconic female product putting a man as the main originality which can be an incentive to any campaign if the target react to it one way or another.

It rises the product exposure one way or another. So maybe this is the strategy they opted to.

That said if Olivier Martinez can render perfectly any perfume campaign and be credible in it, so can Brad Pitt.

It all goes down to what they want to advertise, if they will focus on a stare, on an athmosphere, on a walk, on a smile, ect…

  28. Josephina says:

I am a fan of Brad. Chanel No. 5 is high end, it is a classic brand of perfume never to go out of style.

On the other side of the world, someone else’s perfume is not faring very well. You can now get her perfume (Jennifer Aniston’s Perfume for $30) on sale at WAL-MART. Hah!!!!

  29. lucy2 says:

I don’t get why they’re hiring a man for women’s perfume, but whatever.
I haven’t found him attractive for some time now, there are other guys that I’d choose for an ad campaign first – but Chanel will get a ton of free publicity out of it.

  30. ladybert62 says:

As always, he needs a shower, shave and haircut. Looks like a dirty homeless person.

  31. Dibba says:

Doesn’t matter to me who shills for them, I ain’t buying any of that crap.

  32. loma says:

Never understood the appeal of Chanel no 5. Plastering Pitt all over it isn’t going to change my olfactorial opinions on what smells like crap. The brand must be desperate if it’s getting Brad to shill for them. Also, don’t understand why a woman’s fragrance is being repped by a man..

  33. kira says:

I can see his ad campaign now:

“Don’t just look like a goat, now you can smell like one….It attracts women like Angelina, I swear….Results may vary. Not responsible if Lindsay Lohan comes knocking at your door.”

  34. Alison says:

It’s official! Has just been confirmed by Chanel on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/chanel

  35. EscapedConvent says:

I can see a Legends of the Fall-era Brad, in character as Tristan, being just right for this. He was exquisitely pretty, moody & melancholy as Tristan & I can see that working for a scent campaign.

  36. Princess Lizabeth says:

    Blech!

I have never understood the appeal of Brad Pitt. He has the squinty look of John Mellencamp and I’ll bet he smells like feet.

Nothing against his charity work…I am speaking strictly of aesthetics.

    • Anna says:

I too never found him attractive, ever. He strikes me as being thick as a brick as well. And I despise beards and long hair on men.

Oh, the days of Alain Delon for Eau Savage. Now that was (and will always be) sexy!

      • Princess Lizabeth says:

Oooh, now that’s a handsome image. I agree.

I also agree with your perception of Pitt’s intelligence–or lack thereof. I much prefer someone with the allure of a strong mind under the handsome face.

  37. biteme says:

its a sad day when women are no longer good enough to sell womens products…. whats next, fassy selling tampons!

  38. sunny says:

i think you’re forgetting that angelina was also the face of st. john for a good while. she even wore their gown to one of the major award ceremonies when she was fronting their campaigns. so she actually has some history of shilling, just like practically every other celeb in hollywood.

  39. foozy says:

    totally coooool

  40. Isabella says:

I think its quite a good idea in the whole ad concept of if women buy and wear Chanel No. 5 handsome men like Brad Pitt will be after them.

  41. jwoolman says:

Don’t know why anybody would be sniffy about an actor doing an ad campaign. That’s a normal job for actors. (Models are also actually a type of actor.) Many times it’s a no-name actor, but sometimes the advertiser wants to use the instant recognition factor of a well-known person. Actors are very comfortable in front of a camera and can speak naturally when nobody’s there except a film crew – most of us regular folks can’t. Hence the use of actors in PSA’s and political ads as well. And “them as has, gits” is the common rule in such things, so yes people already brimming over with cash are the ones who will get more cash thrown at them. Otherwise they would be much cheaper no-name actors, the ad company is paying for the name and face recognition.

It does get borderline when Famous Actor Playing a Role in an ad pretends to actually use and like a product, but No-Name Actor does the same thing. The worst for me is the fake tweeting (drooling over some product for the fans) and product placement in pap photos that is such a lucrative advertising gig for twitter twits like the Kardashians and Lindsay Lohan. I also hate the way Disney kids are such paid shills for The Mouse  masquerading as “reporters” and “movie reviewers” in interim spots on the Disney Channel, since kids can’t tell that they’re being lied to and manipulated. But really, we just have to teach kids from an early age that it’s all just acting, including ads and product-promoting tweets. That’s very hard for young children to understand no matter how often adults remind them, though, so direct and indirect advertising at children is just shooting fish in a barrel. Quebec actually banned it a long time ago on tv, relegating toy commercials to adult hours aimed at the adult audience, giving advertisers fits.

  42. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

Wow, we have not even seen what he films, but that does not stop the trash talk.

Good use of his time for a few days while Angie films just like he has been doing.

The commercial will be great with a great director.

He’s dirty and smells talk is getting knocked back in the faces of the believers with this message. Well played Brad. The JP’S are quite funny if you pay attention.

  43. mememe says:

    Sexy MF!

  44. Toe says:

In that first picture, he kinda looks like the guy from Thor. Like his older bro…
