I remember it was pretty big for a minute around 1997 when LL Cool J started doing it. I remember he was sporting that style pretty regularly on that show he had with Debbie Allen, In The House. I don't really remember anything about it, except his character talking about the 'universe' a lot, and the show being kind of a haven for the black stars of yesteryear. Alfonso Ribiero, Lark Voohies, Robin Givens, Kim Wayans, and that light-skinned dude who always gets called up whenever an 'urban' show needs a 'bougie' romantic rival showed up on it, not to mention that light-skinned lady who always gets called up when they need a brittle and elegant 'bougie' boss. Clearly, I'm too lazy to look up the names of character actors, but don't shame too hard, I had the pleasure of having an ovarian cyst rupture on my birthday last week and I'm just coming back into my sanity. I think the best danged steak in my life had a lot to do with it because it was the first time I've ever had bernaise sauce, and I'm in a whole new world, now. It seemed to be on a lot during my summer of jet lag in 1999. Apparently, England continues to air programs with predominantly black American casts for much longer than the 'Six unpromoted episodes shown sporadically at 1:00 AM--no movie, no mule' lip service kiss-off so standard in Canada And his Character's name was Marion, but no one was allowed to call him that. I don't remember what they called him. I do remember that the girl who played Debbie Allen's daughter ended up developing a really horrible case of schitzophrenia--to the point where she couldn't work or take care of herself. I guess it's a similar case to Lisa Nicole Carson. Apparently, when the girl's mother (a neurologist, or something) passed away suddenly no one was around to care for her and I think she got into drugs and prostitution without her mother there to care for her. Really, really sad and I have no idea what's going on with her, now. Whoa. Talk about a brain rush. I haven't thought about any of this stuff in almost fifteen years.
