Britney Spears and Demi Lovato announced as X Factor judges, how will they do?

We’ve heard the announcement that Britney Spears will be joining the American version of “X Factor,” and there were rumors that Demi Lovato was in talks to also become a judge. Last night both stars joined Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid at the Fox Upfronts to make the official announcement. Spears and Lovato will be replacing first season judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. TMZ has video of the upfronts, with both Britney and Demi making brief prepared remarks on stage. Britney’s voice falters a little bit and she looks scared to be there. It’s kind of hard to watch, and I’m hoping that Simon and the other higher-ups at X Factor make sure that she’s comfortable and supported while she’s on the show. She’s only done her own press very rarely and it may take her some time to get accustomed to being on television. Here’s more, thanks to the Detroit Free Press:

It’s official: Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will be judges when the second season of the U.S. edition of “The X Factor” debuts this fall.

“I’m a huge fan of the show and now I get to be a part of the action,” Spears said during Fox’s upfront presentations to advertisers in New York City.

While details of the two stars’ new contracts weren’t revealed, reports over the last few weeks suggested Spears would be signing a $15-million deal.

Spears and Lovato will sit alongside Simon Cowell, the show’s creator, and music executive L.A. Reid. The two pop stars replace former judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who, along with host Steve Jones, were fired by Cowell following the conclusion of the singing competition’s first season.

“I’m absolutely delighted Britney and Demi are joining us,” Cowell said. “Britney remains one of the biggest stars in the world; she’s talented, fascinating — and I believe she knows exactly how to spot ‘The X Factor.’

“Demi’s had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She’s young, confident and enthusiastic,” the outspoken TV personality said. “I think it’s really important that she speaks to our younger audience.”

[From The Detroit Free Press]

As opposed to Britney, Demi looked and acted much more confident on stage. Demi has done plenty of interviews recently and I don’t doubt that she’ll be able to handle herself on X Factor. As Bedhead mentioned, Demi may have problems going in front of the camera and dealing with the criticism and scrutiny that go along with that. She’s mentioned that she feels “fragile… in front of the camera” when she’s acting. How is she going to feel as a judge on an unscripted show?

I’ll be honest, I’m worried about Britney. She’s a shy person and it’s going to take some coaxing and the right environment to help her out of her shell. Is Cowell capable of creating that environment?

Here are photos from the Fox Upfronts, as well as a Twitpic of Britney in the white dress she wore to make the announcement. (More photos of her in that dress are here.) It wasn’t flattering on her. She needs to move away from the tight short numbers she sported at the beginning of her career. This eggplant-colored v-neck dress is somewhat better.

Also, I’m not a fan of Demi’s bleached hair. She switches up her haircolor often, so it’s possible she’ll change it again soon. I actually like Demi’s bright patterned dress, even with that weird trailing piece at the front. It’s contemporary and it works on her.

TMZ just reported that Demi’s X Factor salary is in the low seven figures. Britney received a reported $15 million for just this single season.

No. No to all of the above. Just, no.

    • DeeDee says:

Every time I look at her, I feel slightly disturbed at how dead her eyes look. She’s just… not there. They must have her on some pretty hard core medications. It’s obvious.

      • Marjalane says:

Did you see her speaking her two sentences? It was pitiful. I just think it’s a VERY expensive method to increase their audience. Simon Cowell isn’t stupid, just creepy and greedy. How are either of these girls going to feel when (if) the blogesphere starts to ridicule them?

  2. VV says:

I am a little worried about this lol and yet so curious as well…I mean we have heard so many horror stories of what a whack job Britney is.

Also, do you think Xtina is gonna feel the heat? I mean back in the day these two were kind of competing on the music charts and now they are going to be on competing tv shows…

    Xtina can’t win lol

    • Kitty says:

Xtina won already. She is not zombie and not suffer from mental issues. Her problems were just child play comparing to Brit’s breakdown. Dead eyes and forced smile it’s all what left from old Britney.

      • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Don’t agree. Christina hit rock bottom – esp last year. They are equally pathetic role models.

      • Kitty says:

Ok but these shows are not about let’s find new super “role model”. BTW There’s a difference between hit the rock bottom and being under conservatorship for years and not being able to take care of yourself. I think this case it’s not any competition for Xtina or anybody.

      • Gem says:

So Xtina wins because she doesn’t have a mental health problem? Wow, your ignorance is laughable

      • Kat says:

Yeah, Britney’s suffered from mental health problems. What a total loser.

Stupid statements like yours are why mental health disorders are so stigmatized. Shame on you.

      • Tiffany says:

I think this is such a bad idea. Demi seems way more in control to me, I think she will be articulate and a good judge.

Britney seems scared all the time. If she isn’t well enough to be free from a conservatorship (where she has her basic human rights taken away), there is NO WAY in the world she is ready to do live TV. She will have an ear piece that Jason (whose now a “co-producer”) can feed her lines in…but I don’t think that will be enough.

I feel like Simon is really taking advantage of a puppet. If Britney goes downhill, he will probably be happy about the ratings it will produce.

      • ZenB!tch says:

I feel bad for Britney – the mental illness is organic and would be there whether she was a pop singer, a housewife, a lawyer or a maid. It affects all levels.

That said, I don’t know what is wrong with X-Tina (or Demi for that matter) but X-Tina looks like she is about to hit bottom. I say Britney and Demi are leaving X-Tina in their dust because whatever ails them, they are trying to deal with it while X-Tina keeps hitting the bottle and her hanger on paid BF… you know they have a word for women who are paid GFs… that word applies to men too.

    • PattyBoo says:

LOL that’s why Christina’s been so angry all these years..

    • gg says:

I am not and never have been into the kind of music either Xtina or Britney do. But when likeable people branch out into tv I want them to do well there. I’m glad somebody is giving Britney a chance to have a responsible job that doesn’t require her to basically whore herself out for her parents, yet be under their tight control. She can be herself on this show. If she’s not great, then no big deal. But I think she’s MORE than qualified to judge this show and I hope she comes through with flying colors and has a new career. She’s no Lohan; her problems were not with drugs I don’t believe. This might give her a new importance to herself and give her the boost she needs to keep an even keel at home without touring so much, which is very destabilizing. And mostly, her parents won’t be the ones controlling the situation.

I can’t see her doing crazy things at a show like this. If she does, they will probably oust her tout suite.

      • bluhare says:

Totally agree. Very nice and thoughtful post.

Britney has guts to get out there knowing everyone’s going to be looking at her and she’s scared. I would be too.

      • Trillion says:

Nice post GG. I won’t be watching the show, but I look forward to reading here about it.

    • RocketMerry says:

I’m actually kinda worried about the idea of putting two women who may still be fragile and who may need to “take it slow” into a “fast and dramatic” circus like that program.
I really hope nothing bad goes down here, and that the environment around the show is safe and healthy.

I wonder about the producers in this business, sometimes. They really do seem soulless money grabbing machines.

      • Bad Irene says:

Both women seem very fragile emotionally, and Simon Cowell has a nasty habit of playing the female judges against each other, he plays favourites with them and then turns against them. He seems to take great enjoyment in having women fight over him, see Sharon Osbourne/ Dannii Minogue, Dannii Minogue/Cheryl Cole and Cheryl Cole/Nicole Sherzinger .

Also I have spent too much time thinking about this :/

      • Jag says:

The “fragile women” could have said “no.” The producers didn’t put guns to their heads to make them sign.

  3. ahoyhoy says:

I said yesterday on CDAN–Why not hire The Cracken too and cash in a Trainwreck Trifecta?

Seriously though, I’m rooting for NO trainwreck. They’re both pretty fragile right now!

    • sarahtonin says:

First thing I thought too, if they are hiring trainwrecks just to get rubberneck people to watch every week hoping they crash, then why not get Blohan as well? Perhaps accidentally leave some alcohol and crack (and a pink wig) lying around in the green room and let them do their thing.

      • the original bellaluna says:

Now see, I figured they were trying to up the ratings by trying to appeal to Brit’s and Demi’s fans.

I’m pretty sure that Green Room idea’ll never happen. Simon couldn’t deal with one Paula, let alone two or three.

      • sarahtonin says:

I’m confident it’s to bring in audiences who are curious to see if they can behave. There’s plenty of people who want to see the crazy, even though it’s highly unlikely to happen. You’re right though too, they do have a built in fanbase to tap into.

So the way I see it, in choosing potential ratings gold trainwrecks, you’ve got 4 girls who you immediately think of: Blohan, Hayden Panettiere, Brit and Demi. He’s taken the 2 singers of the 4, and probably the 2 most stable, having people in place to keep them in line. The other 2 are actors (predominantly), and still too much of a mess to gamble on. Brit and Demi are the logical choice – enough crazy to be interesting, but safe enough rely on.

    • gg says:

I think everyone here can agree that Lohan would not be good to judge anything whatsoever, is not any kind of arbiter of talent in any forum, and is best using her time to work on herself (as if she will ever do that …).

  4. brin says:

I’m rooting for Britney to do well. I think this is a good move for her and Demi.
On a side note, if Leann is still “in talks with Nigel Lithgoe”, she can stop now.

    • Jennifer12 says:

Ha, that was good! 🙂 I really like Britney and hope that being able to express herself and maybe be herself on TV will help her get her confidence back.

  5. Zelda says:

    SHE CHANGED HER HAIR!

Finally. That red was very “Real Housewives of McDonalds.”

ETA: I wish I could see more of her dress–I can’t tell if I love it or hate it.

  6. Agnes says:

i hope this is good for both demi and britney, for their mental health. otherwise, i have zero opinion, i’ve never seen the show.

    • ahoyhoy says:

Exactly Agnes. I think Demi is being pushed back out there a little too soon. Brit’s older and had SOME time off, plus she has a fiance and a dad (who care) closely watching.
Demi’s never actually completed any treatment, has she? I keep hearing she’s changed facilities, never officially released. I worry about her. Mental illness kills people. It’s very serious.

  7. Gia says:

Britney just needs to stop…actually her ‘conservators’ need to stop pushing her and propping her up. She is clearly highly medicated and if she can’t make decisions to run her own life, she shouldn’t be expected to perform. This is a train wreck waiting to happen.

    • Teri from Canada says:

I agree the poor girl has been throgh enough and should just retire and be with her sons

    • ahoyhoy says:

Brit is supposedly ‘okay’ (at least stable enough to work), because she had people who care about her making sure she stays on her meds. The craziness and head-shaving was before she was medicated. Supposedly the ‘conservators’ are only there now to sign off on money matters with Brit, to make sure she doesn’t lose all her cash just because she forgot her pill.
You have to admit, Brit looks great and really turned herself around. With the help of some good doctors, I’m sure. Never be ashamed to ask for help, y’all!

      • Gia says:

I have to disagree. I don’t think Britney has done anything…I think the people around her have done everything. I just don’t see why she has to keep working. This industry destroyed her but her family keeps pushing her in. Too many people rely on her for a salary. How bad do you think she wants a ‘normal’ life? Pretty fucking bad i’d bet. She has enough money to live many, many lifetimes. Why does she need to keep performing? Is this really best for her?

      • ahoyhoy says:

I will agree she seems unenthusiastic about touring, but I can see where this $15 Million gig is exactly the less strenuous job she’s been looking for.

She is really not that rich, considering it’s California & she has decades of being old & ugly to support herself—and her boys. I think her age and her kids are the real reason she works still. I wouldn’t doubt she has lost a TON over the years to grifters, back in her heyday. I think daddy came in and stopped the bleeding, money-wise. Brit seems in control & okay these days. I don’t think she should retire just because she’s (probably) bipolar.

      • VanessaP. says:

“Britney’s not really that rich…”? Hahaha. She’s worth 250 Million. Gaga and even Justin B is ONLY worth 100M..and THEY’RE THE BIGGEST STARS RIGHT NOW. Demi 3M. Britney, not rich? Ha. How much are you worth?

      • ZenB!tch says:

She may be stable but I don’t think her meds are right yet. It takes time to get the dosage right. I think she can work as in do what she is told and not screw it up, but I don’t think she can currently work on an unscripted show. I don’t think she will have a breakdown or do anything stupid because she is so highly medicated (maybe too highly) but it will be like watching the zombie freakshow.

I say that as someone who is medicated for anxiety disorder who has a close friend who is bipolar.

I’m not sure about what Demi’s issues are and what controlling them requires.

  8. Jackie says:

what a shame. such a bad idea for britney. people will tune in just to see how much of a train wreck she is.

she reminds me of marilyn monroe, even though the cracken seems to want this title, for some sick reason. it is not a compliment.

    • Marjalane says:

I know! I guess I should have included that it my “no”. Simon Cowell is doing this JUST so people will tune in and hope she implodes. He did the same thing with Paula Abdul, but people still didn’t want to watch his dumb show. I think it’s really cruel.

      • littlestar says:

Totally agree with you on how he treated Paula Abdul. I think it’s sickening how he dumped her so quickly after the first season didn’t do well. And as for him hoping she would implode on the first season and create more drama/ratings? Well, that certainly didn’t happen. I was actually VERY impressed with how great of a judge and mentor Paula Abdul was on the first season of X Factor. Actually quite sad to see her gone – I don’t think Demi Lovato has enough experience and maturity to be a good mentor to the competitors on this show. Plus, I really don’t like the little bully coke head anyway.

      • anon33 says:

That is my exact issue with this-what credentials does Demi have to be a judge for this show? A (now mostly over) Disney career, is that really it??? I mean, we can argue all day about how “talented” Britney actually is, and the value of pop music to culture generally, but at least at one point she WAS incredibly successful in her music career.

  9. magda says:

demi and her makeup….. just no girl

    • PattyBoo says:

      this! She looks super scary..

    • gg says:

Just like Lohan’s recent red carpet disaster with the lace dress. Mineral powder strikes again. That stuff is a gimmicky disaster and looks horrible in photos. Shiny face is bad. Who decided that looked good enough to sell?

    • bluhare says:

That closeup makes her look 20 years older.

  10. lil ole me says:

Britney could kick a bear to death with those legs

  11. Zelda says:

Britney needs the warm embrace of a sleeve.

    • lassie says:

Nice one. I hope you don’t mind if I use this when discussing the arm flab of my buxom neighbor.

  12. bea says:

I don’t know……it might be easier for her than touring, with all the “dance” steps to learn…….

I hate her hair and fake tan – she looks like she was styled by Hulk Hogan’s ex. She needs a stylist big time. She needs to leave the hoochie dresses behind. For all her working out (I imagine), her arms look huge in these pix.

She seems like she’s been treated like a product her whole life and has suffered bc of it. Very spaced out looking in these pics.

  13. Macey says:

I think its kind of pathetic that 2 singers known for auto-tunes and lip singing are judging contestants that are actually singing live.
Aside form that, I feel bad for both. Demi’s been the subject of a lot of BI about relapsing and not being ready to work but her parents are forcing her out there so she can support them. I dont think this will help either one at all.

    • QQ says:

This! Im trying to understand the Why behind this as per my comment!

    • Jayna says:

Brit I get. Demi has a great voice. I’n all of her promotions for her last album she did powerful live performances. She has a big voice. She doesn’t need to lip sync.

    • Shelly says:

Well, Paula Abdul and JLo can’t sing either. And Britney has been way more successful than either of them.

    • jwoolman says:

I don’t think this is a good idea for Demi, but she definitely doesn’t need autotuning or lip-syncing. The girl has a powerful voice and can belt out a song on key without any type of microphone. Just because The Mouse got his claws into her and pushed her into acting (which she does okay with but is unlikely to make it as an adult) doesn’t mean she doesn’t have skills.

I’m not worried about Britney. Her dad and fiancé are keeping a close eye on her. I don’t think they are pushing her to make more money. Work seems to be therapeutic for her. When she got out of the hospital, she quickly got back into training for dance at a local center. It was obvious that was part of her much needed therapy. It was her momager who handled her in her early days, and her mom and dad had serious disagreements about that. I think if anything her dad will insist on waiting and going slowly about such things, but he also knows she needs to work for her own sake. If he thinks she’s ready for this – most likely she is. I think he would pull her back if it went badly, so the skeeze hoping for ratings-pushing meltdowns may be in for a surprise. I doubt that Demi has anybody really looking after her to the same extent.

  14. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

I just cant get over how much Brit is being paid – 15 mil for one season! What is that, 1 mil per episode? I know the show can afford it, but from the sound of it, it will be interesting to see if she will even be able to communicate her critiques. I think Demi will actually have her beat in that area and should be paid more than a measly 1ish mill compared to Brit’s 15. *shaking head*

    • VanessaP. says:

      Er…let’s see why..

      – Britney’s sold over 100 million records
      – She’s the 6th best selling female artist of ALL TIME
      – Most photographed woman in the world
      – Best selling female artist of the decade
      – Had 6 of her albums ALL DEBUT AT #1
      – All her TV guestings/appearance had the highest rated episode ever (Glee,HIMYM,Billboards Awards,VMAs)
      – Went through HELL and back

Yep..she’s worth the 15Million. Are you? Deal with it.

  15. Bonfire Beach says:

Those are some good walnut-cracking thighs on those girls. And I’m truly not saying it to be mean – I like both of them. They just have some damn strong legs! They look healthy and I hope they both do well.

  16. QQ says:

A few thoughts as they occur to me:

*This is a terrible idea AS FUCK

*Do we need another singing show? Another popstar? Is Simon Cowell poor or something we dont know about?

    *this is a terrible idea

    * Can we get on the same boat either Britney is an adult and well enough to work or she is Not and really: I she poor? WHY does she need to keep working? Why is this an imperative?! Why cant she (be allowed? If she is indeed that badly off) to retire in luxury in a farm in lousiana collecting royalties on something?! Please explain: Either she WANTS/Likes the attention or is she Broke in need of generating money and so they’ll keep trotting her out/ is this even consensual?!

Lastly not to be a cunt, i dont have kids and i quite frankly find all these Disney Cannon fodder kids: Gross, Overpimped, talentless, Ugly, Overactors withbzero subtletly, the “physical comedy” they call pulling faces a la Jim Carey, exhausting, they are all sort of shitty at singing yet all try their hand at some of it so my question is: Why Is Demi Lovato!? Is she That pretty/talented or am i missing it cause i equate this girl to Amanda Bynes in EVERY respect, i dont understand what is her career, why are they pushing her? Enlighten me, seriously

    • jover says:

Sign on qq this proves these shows are about RATINGS and ad dollars singing is secondary; why make excuses Brit is a sloppy uneducated autotuned trailer park bimbo; Demi is talented only by today’s low pop standards without the disney machine she’s nothing – imagine both of these chicks trying to make it in the 60s/70s when you needed real talent. Disney has contributed mightily to the ruination and complete corporatization of music. Really, how much music that will be memorable30-40 years from now have all the “singing” shows actually found and nurtured? Very little. It’s just pedestrian entertainment – I think I’ll go read some F. Scott Fitzgerald.

      • Irishae says:

Yep, ratings and money. And no, no amount of money is enough for these people. I have never seen the X Factor and had to scroll up for a reminder on which of the clone shows we are talking about. They are banking, so to speak, on people like me who will tune in simply for the spectacle of Britneybot trying to convey thoughts via human speech.

    • VanessaP. says:

Britney is worth 250 Million. No, she’s not poor. She needs to keep working to stabilize her self. Being in the spotlight is all she’ve ever known. Remember, she’s been working since 9.

  17. Britt says:

The way she poses, Britney always looks like a child in some situation in which she’s been told by an adult to keep her hands to herself and not touch anything.

  18. RuddyZooKeeper says:

It’s different for everyone, I guess. For some with mental illesses, treatment involves staying active and following regular routines–not sitting around like I’m imagining goes on with Hollywood-ers and entertainers who have too much time and money on their hands and not enough work.

But for good reason, I suppose, with these two. But eventually, to get better you have to rejoin life on this planet. Obviously their lives aren’t considered the norm, but face it, they aren’t going to move to North Dakota and work at Walmart.

    • Gia says:

there are so many more things to do in the world than perform in front of millions of people…

      • gg says:

I agree, but what on earth would somebody who has been groomed for showbiz her entire life do other than entertain? She would be lost and depressed and suicidal if she were forced to be a housewife and make cookies for a living. Hell, I would. She’s used to being around a lot of people. If she lost that I think she would relapse. It’s a comfort zone to her.

      • Gia says:

She should be a hairdresser or something. Seriously…I could totally see her with a little salon cutting and styling hair. It’s not too late to ‘learn’ a new life. Is she even 30 yet?? Step 1: leave L.A.

  19. sarahtonin says:

Britney’s body is starting to look like a swimmer’s. You know when they get so bulky they look like a drag queen whenever they put on a dress?

    • Zelda says:

I agree, though I think a lot of it is that her clothes are too skimpy.

      • sarahtonin says:

Yeah, she badly needs a decent stylist, one that can work with different body shapes. The shoe choice is just dreadful. She needed a style that elongates her legs, but instead these cut them short because of the straps going up to the ankle. Not to mention they look too tight, so they cut into her cankles. Just wrong.

      • Zelda says:

And the too-tan skin and bleach-white hair age her and make her look cheap.
        *sigh*
She no longer looks crazy–fair enough. But she doesn’t look good.

      • sarahtonin says:

Brit has always looked skanky. She’s always been trailer trash, that’s her thing. She embodied that Dolly Parton saying, ‘It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.’ But she used to look more polished or put together or something. You are right – what worked on a 19 year old doesn’t work on a 30 year old. That hair colour really has to go. It just makes her look like a cheap old tart (and/)or like Pamela Anderson. I don’t understand why hair extensions should look ratty either. Why don’t they get replaced if they split from over-bleaching? There’s just no excuse for any of this. She needs to stop letting her father dress her, and ban her mother from touching up her roots. She needs a professional team, and one from New York or L.A., not the lady up the road who cut her hair in a home garage/salon when she was 12 in Louisiana.

  20. Shelly says:

I think Britney looks good! But yeah, I’m worried about how she’ll cope, too. She is shy in interviews (at least over the past several years), always guarded, and you never get the feeling that you know the real her. Not sure how that will translate to tv, when part of this job will be to let her personality shine through, and I’m not sure she wants the world knowing who she really is. I still think Britney just wants privacy and to retire away from everything with her kids.

  21. sharylmj says:

why did they get two girls with head problems to “judge” other people?? this makes no sense to me..

  22. sharylmj says:

Britney does look good here.. shiny eyes and hair, and I guess if she still has to work, this stable job staying at home every night and not having to tour would be the best it seems

  23. Katie says:

    Britney’s body looks amazing!

  24. Gia says:

P.S. to all this: Simon Cowell is a repulsive little man.

  25. Nev says:

Britney’s album Blackout is her best work. I just discovered it…and LOVE it!!!

great for the gym…some good beats.

it was just before her breakdown.

    • Hakura says:

+1! I like almost every song on that album, which happens rarely. Last time that happened was ‘Mirrorball’ but Sarah McLachlan. >.<

  26. Hakura says:

All the health issues aside, I feel like Britney is too ‘nice’ to be an affective judge. She’s basically this series’ Paula, though I guess every show needs a soft touch.

I truly hope Brit does well. After everything she’s been through, I think she deserves some success.

(& to whomever brought up Xtina being better…What are you smoking? Yes, she’s a better singer with a great deal of wasted talent. But she’s been a trainwreck during the duration of her show, not to mention fought like a 5 year old with another judge. But that’s just my opinion.)

  27. Cinderella says:

I predict those two are going to hate each other.

  28. lassie says:

I think someone should gently shake Britney on the shoulder and tell her its not 2001 anymore.

There’s a point in your life as a woman when you need to start dressing older. Britney, you’re here.

    • Hakura says:

I do agree that she needs to dress more her age, more mature, & not like a 20 year old hitting the clubs. She can still be hot as hell, she just needs a *style* that doesn’t threaten to flash us every time she moves.

I think saying she needs to dress “older” gives it a negative spin, though.

      • lassie says:

Well, not Bea Arthur older, but more mature.

        Let’s call it ‘less skankified’.

  29. sarahtonin says:

I’m going to lose my sh-t laughing when I see a Cheetos commercial during the first show.

  30. lunabell says:

Ok, I understand why Britney is there, but Demi Lovato? She’s known more for her personal issues than actually having a career! That’s like asking Selena Gomez, minus her slightly raised profile from dating Justin Bieber, to be a judge.

  31. almond says:

I don’t know why but I get the feeling that Britney would be better off if they (her handlers) would let her just be normal. Live a quite, undisturbed life somewhere away from the lime light. Do they really need the money? One has to wonder…

  32. Embee says:

Imagine Britney dressed in the same outfit as Amy Poehler (with the leather jacket) = HOT.

Britney is built more sturdily and athletically than the typical Hwood frame, and she should work it. I love that she eats! She just needs help transitioning to post-pubescence attire.

I hope that Cowell will leverage his considerable talents to help these young women, and not put them in a veritable cage match for the nation.

    • Snowflake says:

Yeah, her body looks great when she’s doing her workouts. She’s got a banging body going on here.

  33. some bitch says:

Why is Demi Lovato there? Aside from like, one album and some Disney film she was in, I have no idea what this kid does aside from go on about how hard her life is and not handling her blow and booze well.

As for Britney, I don’t get why people rip on her for her figure. She has an athletic build (as do I) and yes we tend to bulk up and look “manly” to people who can’t handle a set of strong thighs and broad shoulders. Given that she’s on psychiatric medication it would be even more difficult for her to stay slim, but she’s in better shape than the majority of Americans. For somebody who’s been to hell and back she looks good, but it’s time for her to ditch the bleach blonde and super tan skin. If she updated the wardrobe and started dressing like a woman in her 30s it would be a huge step in the right direction. She’d look amazing in a tailored suit and with honey blonde hair.

  34. Dee Cee says:

It will be a breakthrough for them if they needed to act the adult, do a responsible job where they must be held accountable or a great big flop.. If the obligation to do a good job didn’t work out.. they will go back to hide at home in tears and worry and work through the horrible consequences of knowing it was solely their fault or a flaw of their character.. which might be the saving grace of either of them from their mental and moral difficulties in life.

  35. the original bellaluna says:

I hope they’re BOTH going to be okay. Neither of them seem to be in an ideal place, and Simon doesn’t strike me as the nurturing type.

It’s probably to up the ratings by reaching out to Brit’s fan base (which has gotten older as she has) and Demi’s fan base (which is a younger crowd.

  36. nicolle buchelli says:

    BRITNEY LOOK STUNNING!!! LOVE HEEEEEER

  37. skuddles says:

There was an interesting CDAN blind a short while back about a post-tween in the running for this job. Said she was desperate to keep it together so producers didn’t realize how badly she was struggling with addictions… still. Demi?

  38. sup says:

zombritney and demi potato ftl. actually i never heard a song by the latter. thank god mtv has long stopped airing music videos so i haven’t watched it in over a decade. with pigney we were pretty much obliged to see her videos being bombarded 24/7 and then not being particularly bright, she kinda lost her mind at her first time experimenting with stuff now people think she was always clinically crazy and sympathize with her. all the while they think she shouldn’t be under conservatorship, when she threatened to kill her own child if she didn’t get the pills that she was addicted to. stans are always delusional but fatney’s stans are the worst. oh and britney never had any sort of talent, and i very much doubt that fat potato does either.

  39. Naye in VA says:

regardless of whether or not Jason is Britney’s conservator-to-be, its clear they love each other and she has to have some sort of sense of self and others if he fell in love with her, and she still dotes on her boys. i think shes fragile, but okay

  40. Itwillrain says:

This is a total train wreck and I am disgusted that they picked two such mentally fragile people. It’s sad

  41. Beatrix says:

Oh, but look who may have finally gotten a stylist!? Much better, Demi

  42. Angie says:

well, according to MTV she has just flashed her hoo-ha again. Oh, brother, here we go already.

  43. Maggie says:

Oh yeah, Britney has always been shy, really?!

  44. samira677 says:

I can’t imagine Britney being a good judge. She seems blank in the interviews she’s given. I don’t see her giving constructive advise and only saying everybody is really good.

  45. Snowpea says:

Its so strange the way you develop opinions about people you’ve never met and know just the bare facts about.

But the truth here is I LOVE Britney and I know I’m not alone.

She has a quality that makes you want the best for her. What is that quality? Someone said it above; she has something akin to Marilyn Monroe. Sort of soft and sweet but scared and a little disturbed that somehow translates well on camera.

BUT – if other truths be told, Britney has GOT to stop dressing like this. A cute bob, a nice flared pant, a silk shirt with a pussycat bow would look stunning.

A few years back, Pamela Anderson did a shoot in Uk mag The Face and they completely made her under; minimal makeup, man style suit, straightened hair. She looked PHENOMENAL!

What is it about Hollyweird where everyone thinks more flesh = sexier? Maybe at 18, but a 30 year old mother of two? Like a cheap old tart.

  46. Dhavy says:

Why can’t they hire women with talent?

I hear AI has real low ratings this season so I think no matter how many times JLo flashes her boy-toy around she’s not going to get higher ratings. BS music is bubble gum music and JLo’s music is just crappy so IMO I don’t see talent enough in any of them to be considered judges.

I’m glad I don’t waste my time watching these shows

    • ZenB!tch says:

I don’t watch these either so this is an uneducated opinion…

Why would a woman or a person with talent be a judge on this show? It’s a pop show. Unlike Steven Tyler, I’m sure Debra Harry still has self-respect.

Paula Abdul has no talent and she is a drunk or an addict from what I read but people seemed to like her. I think its about what the mainstream likes. Music is subjective so as long as you have a producer or music exec on there to veto something really bad, almost anyone will do.

We could judge performers – but we may or may not have the personality for TV.

The latter is why I am not sure about Britney. I don’t think she has a personality at the moment. I’m hoping that between now and filming her medication is adjusted. Still I’m rooting for her.

  47. Annie says:

They both look around 10 years older than other people in their respective age groups that I know. What gives? Britney looks like the ghost of Vegas Elvis in the header photo but at least she looks bathed and groomed. And Demi needs to ditch that dreadful blonde/ombre and go back to brunette – I liked the henna red on her too.

  48. LucyOriginal says:

I am rooting for Britney! and I have never been her fan…

  49. ZenB!tch says:

I keep forgetting to ask – what happened to Paula and Nicole?

I’ve never watched this show and don’t usually watch these shows – so were they bad?

PS: I may watch next season to support Britney.

  50. Hanna says:

Britney, pull yourself together. Wear something classy for once. Looking like a tranny with all dat going on.. Ugh.

  51. Sofia says:

Ya know, I guess this will be pretty good for ratings but Britney’s voice has never been the best part of her schtick. But she’s a successful woman and can probably recognize ‘it’.

Both girls are pretty and have nice figures- it’s good to see someone real lookin’ up there. (even if Britney just… somehow manages to make everything she wears look so damn cheap and Demi tries desperately to make her skin look lighter) I don’t watch that sort of show but I hope they do well.

  52. Eva says:

    They both love burgers!
They should stop to eat frensh fries!

i dont want them to be skinny but thats too much!

Hey, if JLO can be a judge, why Britney cant? Yeah shes not the best singer but shes in this business for 15 years, she has experience and she was a great performer and dancer! nobody came near to her in that, even JLO cant.

JLO´s Career was already over, her last 2 albums were huge flop and than came american idol and saved her. Maybe Brit wants the same for her, why not? I

    • VanessaP. says:

Only none of Britney’s album has yet to flop. Her last 2 albums debuted at #1 and both had sold out world tours.

  53. Mandy says:

For some reason, I have a real soft spot for Britney. I really hope that the people “watching out” for her truly have her best interest at heart. I used to feel like her dad does, but who knows- if he did, would he really be allowing all of this? But at the same time, maybe Britney really wants to do this and they are trying to make her happy. Guess time will tell…
