James Bond is back: ‘Skyfall’ teaser trailer released, and it looks good

OMG. Finally! I shouldn’t say that – I believe they’re still filming the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall, so I wasn’t really expecting a trailer right now. But I suppose it’s never too early to begin the Bond buzz, especially when Skyfall is going to be a big Christmas release this year. Hopefully, it will make a ton of money too, because as a Bond fan, I need this film to be more Casino Royale and less Quantum of Solace. God, how much did QoS suck? Hard. But I loved Casino Royale, and Skyfall definitely looks promising – allegedly, the script is really awesome. Skyfall is being directed by Sam Mendes (the ex-boyfriend of Daniel Craig’s current wife – is that weird?), and it also stars Ralph Fiennes (who you can a bit of in this teaser trailer) and Javier Bardem as the villain. Here’s the new teaser trailer:

I love “Agent.” “Provocateur.” That’s a great bit. I’m reminded again of how dark this modern James Bond is – this is not the happy Cold Warrior, nor is it the charming post-Cold War Pierce Brosnan version. This James Bond version is tortured, misanthropic, deeply cynical and… I don’t know… bitter? It’s an interesting take on a beloved character.

SPOILERS: There are some rumors that Ralph Fiennes’s character has a lot of secrets too, and I suspect that they were able to get Ralph to sign on because he plays the ultimate bad-guy (masquerading as a good guy). Also, there’s a rumor that one of the major characters is going to be killed off, and many suspect it will be M (Judi Dench).

OK, they could have at least shown more of a Javier clip other than the silhouette (I know that stumble away from an explosion walk anywhere).

I am a HUGE Bond fan…except for the latter Roger Moore films when he no longer took the role seriously. So I think this movie looks promising. I’m going to angry if it’s another QoS letdown. More action, less drama. Also more Daniel Craig being tied to a chair and whipped like the bad boy he is. 🙂

‘Also more Daniel Craig being tied to a chair and whipped like the bad boy he is.’
      Amen to that, sister.

Am I the only one who liked Quantum of Solace? I thought the cinematography was beautiful (I loved the white hotel in the desert) and I liked the glimpse into the character of Bond. But true, the Parkour chase along the crane at the beginning of Casino Royale was fantastic action. And CR was a jolt of caffeine to the franchise. More Bond, please! The trailer looks very good.

And don’t be too hard on dear Roger Moore. He gave the world the Bond that they wanted. It wzs the ’70’s disco era, not the new millenuim post-financial meltdown darkness over your shoulder world that we have now. The world was frothy, he was frothy.

I liked QoS too. So that’s two of us.

      • Nakli says:

Make that three. I liked QOS and now I want to see it again just to see what about it was so bad.

      • LeeLoo says:

I will too be hard on Moore. As someone who read the serial novels, I am kind of OCD when it comes to a portrayal of Bond. Connery, Dalton and Craig are my favorite portrayals. I didn’t like the lightheartedness of Moore and Brosnan. Bond is not a lighthearted man!! Connery walked a fine line of keeping it light for movie audiences but portraying Bond at the same time. Dalton made it a point to appease readers of the novels and IMO, Craig is good (and hot) for the role. He plays Bond a little too rugged at times but he’s ultimately a good fit as he portrays a very masculine version of Bond. And he’s hot. OMG is he hot.

QoS in my was less action and too much drama. It’s not the worst Bond movie (Octupussy takes that title) but it was a little too emo Bond for me.

      Yes please!!!

  2. Cherry says:

This just made my day. YEEY!!

  3. chloe says:

I agree with LeeLoo where is Javier, all we get is a silhouette, but thanks for reminding me about the whipping scene, something to keep me going through the day:)

  4. mary simon says:

I liked Casino Royale – lots of gorgeous locations and Eva Green was gorgeous and smart in it. She and Daniel had great chemistry.

  5. Carol says:

Judi Dench must always be M. M cannot die. I will ff through everything else just to get to Bond’s scenes with M. Please don’t kill her!

    • Emily says:

I’m with you, no killing off of M! Judi Dench in that role is perfect, they can’t replace her.

    • It is ME!! says:

      Totally agree! Love Dame Dench!!

Also glad to see Calypso (Naomi Harris? Is that her name?) getting some work. She’s great.

      Love Craig as Bond.

  6. Amelia says:

So happy to see the trailer at last!! I love Bond and it’s a great year to be British! We’ve got 50 years of Bond, the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics – roll on the summer.
And I agree with one of the above posts, I actually really enjoyed QoS. But I think after CR which was a brilliant reboot, it fell a bit short of what people were expecting.

  7. саша says:

RALPH FIENNES!!! OMG! i can’t wait till november, must see now.

    • Mr.Smurf says:

I know right! I’m definitely going to see this, just because he’s in it. He’s where I got my name on this site from……see if anyone can guess it!

  8. the original bellaluna says:

How ’bout a shot or two of Ralph, as well Javier? Come one, guys, whet the ladies’ appetites!

  9. The Original Mia says:

I’m in the minority, but I loved Quantum of Solace. Might have been my girlcrush on Olga Kurylenko, though.

This looks so good. Cannot wait to see it.

  10. Feebee says:

Mmmmm, okay, that will do for now. I have a good feeling… don’t want to see too much. Let’s just…. anticipate 🙂

  11. Addison says:

The ladies are just lovely. I love Bond but I want Craig to be gone even though I think he is doing an okay job. I just want Michael to get the part already! Fass as Bond would be AWESOME!

But yes, this looks like it’s going to be good!

    • LeeLoo says:

Fassy is a lot of things but he could NEVER be James Bond. I just can’t see him as Bond.

Kaiser you nailed the image of Bond that Ian Fleming had portrayed in the books. The hard -edged Bond did not originate with Craig, but with Timothy Dalton 25 years ago. Dalton, by the way, was approached by Cubby Broccoli to play Bond as early as the late 60s but Dalton wisely felt he was too young (then 25), and subsequently turned the role down two times again until 1987. Dalton was no second choice to Brosnan or anyone else. The Broccoli family have always felt Dalton was the One. Unfortunately, he walked away from the role in 1994 after the franchise was in limbo for 6 years.

Craig’s Bond is too Jason Bourne-esque for me, but I think that’s the trend right now. Dalton remains my favorite Bond because he has that danger and cynicism, but still has an regal and gentlemanly mien.

    • LeeLoo says:

My take on Craig Bond vs Dalton Bond: Dalton WAS Ian Fleming’s Bond. He made it a point to read all of Ian Fleming’s books in order to capture the literal Bond. That was his attention from day one. He was the perfect Bond.

Craig comes very close but the problem with Craig is that he can’t take the working class out of himself. Bond is upper cut, high class and Daniel Craig is none of that. He’s the mine worker who watches soccer and gets drunk on a regular basis. He is Manchester to Bond’s Oxford. I love Daniel Craig but as some who has read the novels, I understand your dissatisfaction with Craig. I don’t mind him being Bourne-y.

Speaking of Bourne, does anyone have any thoughts on the idea of Jeremy Renner playing Bond? Yes? No?

      • Tessa says:

Dalton has always been my favorite Bond. Craig is a close second, but Dalton was (at least for me) perfect for the role.

      • MsJAPrufrock says:

LeeLoo, Absolutely NO for Jeremy Renner as Bond. Talk about blue-collar looks, he would be even more problematic than Daniel Craig’s Bond. Renner does not exude anything close to Fleming thoroughly English, sophisticated, yet ambivalent spy-killer. Renner is a fine actor, but his demeanor, short stature, and looks are more appropriate for a reliable, can-do foot soldier than Commander Bond.

    • Karma says:

Too bad Dalton went along with the PC version of Bond. While he might have been their choice, it watered down the brand with odd script choices, and stunted sexuality.

And the Bond films, with PG and PG-13 ratings, are pretty tame sexually to begin with.

It was awkward…and that isn’t why people see a Bond film. Even the film’s promo tour of Dalton selling the ‘new and improved’, PC-Bond, was awkward.

  13. BlackSwan777 says:

Best Bond Ever! Can’t wait to see this. .

  14. Eleonor says:

I should start a petition for having Karl Lagerfeld as the villain in James Bond.

  15. Lbeees says:

Fassy would be an amazing Bond. I <3 Craig, always will, but am excited for Bond's next incarnation. Isn't this supposededly Craig's last Bond film?

  16. Dave in MN says:

Intriguing trailer. I’m kind of surprised he didn’t answer “Heineken” to each one of those prompts.

  17. dahlianoir says:

I want to be pinned against the wall by Daniel Craig in a Bond attire. That is all.
