Gwyneth Paltrow forgets to flat-iron, goes wavy: doesn’t she look much better?

Gwyneth Paltrow did an event in London two days ago for the Clinton Foundation, and I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to get to the photos yesterday. There good pics – Gwyneth actually stopped for a moment outside the venue to smile and pose for the waiting paparazzi, which she rarely does. I do like her outfit – white slacks and some kind of intricate, lacy shell. Gwyneth does white and cream a lot, and sometimes the paleness washes her out, but not here. She looks toned and fit and tan.

But really, let’s talk what’s important. HER HAIR. I’ve been on a tear over the past year or so about Gwyneth’s hair. In my defense, Goop is kind of stuck in the 1990s, her hey-day. She still believes her go-to red carpet look should be “long blonde hair, flat-ironed, with a strict center part.” It no longer suits her face, and I think the style ages her and dates her. Look at how much better and younger she looks with her hair all wavy and fluffy and teased out a bit? Isn’t this such an improvement? She needs to adopt this style more often.

As for the event – President Clinton was there. Don’t worry. Goop is SO not his type. Let’s face it – you could show Bubba a dozen slim, elegant, icy blondes and he’s always going to go for the zaftig, bubbly brunette. I kind of want Bubba to meet Christina Hendricks. RIGHT? That needs to happen. Here’s more about the London event:

It was certainly an eclectic crowd at the Millennium Network Event held held in London last night. Gwyneth Paltrow brought Hollywood glamour to the bash and turned up in an all white outfit and a winning smile. The 39-year-old star donned a bright ensemble held at The Old Vic Tunnels in Waterloo. Gwyneth was seen waving to fans and photographers as she arrived at the event, showing off her trim figure in a white top with embroidery detail and a pair of tuxedo trousers. The mother-of-two had her hair teased into loose beach waves and had heavy eyeliner for the occasion.

Gwyneth was co-host of the event which was attended by Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend Dave Clark, Joan Collins and Lily Cole. The Millennium Network is part of the Clinton Foundation and former President Bill and his daughter Chelsea were there to support the event.

The fundraiser was arranged to help raise funds for the organisation which aims to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote healthier childhoods, and protect the environment. Guests, who paid upwards of £120 a ticket were treated to music, speeches and drinks as well as the chance to mingle with the familiar faces in attendance.

[From The Mail]

So she co-hosted! Good for Goop, deigning to mingle with the charitable peasantry. Oh, but she got to have some face time with Pres. Clinton and Princess Beatrice, I’m sure. I really want this week’s Goop newsletter to be all about Gwyneth finding a way to name-drop “Mr. William Jefferson Clinton.” Please, like Gwyneth would ever stoop to call him “Bill”. As if.

UPDATE: Hahaha, funny story – this event that Goop co-hosted is being called the “WORST PARTY EVER”.

Bill Clinton hasn’t had much luck on the party circuit. Another exclusive bash he’d hosted in London recently with tickets costing up to $1,600 was blasted as “the worst party ever” by guests who lined up for hours to get in. Marie Phillips, author of “Gods Behaving Badly,” wrote on Twitter, “WORST. PARTY. EVER. The queue was the highlight.” She described how celebrity guests including Gwyneth Paltrow and Will.i.am were led in while hundreds of others who paid for tickets waited outside near Waterloo Station. She added, “I haven’t seen so many posh angry people in a line since the shrimp ran out at Kate and Wills’ wedding.”

Go ahead and just blame it all on Gwyneth. PEASANT REVOLT!!!

From the back, it looks like she still has the tags on her top.

  2. lower-case deb says:

i always wonder about those name labels and clothing care labels. what’s the practice for it? do you cut them out especially if they are on a thin-fabriced dress?

(like the ones that are visible on the side and back of goop’s dress)

maybe it’s just me, but i don’t feel comfortable with them showing through the fabric. i always have the odd feeling that people would try to read them for some reason.

    • Rhea says:

Maybe she wants us peasant to read it. You know, in case we don’t know the brand and thinking it’s from H&M. 😀 And this hair looks better with her. Makes her seems softer.

      • Rhea says:

Oh, forgot to add that I think it’s better not to cut the label when the fabric is thin. Otherwise wouldn’t it left some obvious marks?

    • Agnes says:

speaking from the peasant perspective, i would def cut the tags out. they look tacky.

  3. marie says:

ha ha, Peasant Revolt, thanks for that.. Gwyneth looks good here, really like her outfit.

  4. audreys says:

Perhaps that thing on her back is a patch, like for nicotine or something…

  5. Jackie says:

hair is much better. like the outfit too. goodbye 1997!

  6. JFK says:

She always was and still is highly overrated. She should never get the Oscar. Why is she still here anyway? She is not that smart, pretty or interesting.

    • autumndaze says:

The year she won the Oscar was when I began to question whether the Oscar always went to the actor who had the best performance.
She did not deserve it and neither have many others…

  7. I.want.shoes says:

Her hair also looks a shade darker- much better than that over bleached look she’s been stuck on.

  8. RuddyZooKeeper says:

Music, speeches, and … just drinks? Where’s the food?! No wonder everybody was so stinkin’ cranky!

And curls make anybody seem more friendly and approachable. She ought to bring these babies out more.

  9. Nicole says:

I’m going to say it. She did not put down the flat iron! Those “waves” are made with a flat iron. I can spot flat iron curls from a mile away. Blaaah

    • BW says:

Thank you. I was going to say that. She wound section of hair around her flat iron. If her hair was really wavy, the ends would curl, and there wouldn’t be creases in her hair 3 inches above the ends.

Also, I hate her dark roots. They match her grey eyebrows. She needs to dye her hair a darker color and dye her brows to match.

      • Meecey says:

Agree! Hair flat ironed into curls look terrible. Last three inches look like straw!! Get with it Goop!
Outfit is pretty but hide a tag. Geez.

  10. sup says:

much better now she just needs to stop parting it in the middle and get some protein cure for that hair or something. it looks so dry! but still wavy is much better for older ladies or ladies with very angular faces imho because it distracts from the wrinkles-sags and/or harsh features

    • Ally says:

So true. Nearing 40 is the time to side part and grow a fringe. It looks much better and you can avoid the Botox.

There should be a Hollywood support group for these ex-starlets who can’t give up the centre part, tanning and hair overprocessing. SJP will attend, too.

  11. tracking says:

Really gorgeous. But how annoying that she probably never has to wait in line. Can’t think what she’s done to deserve this.

  12. Peach Dancer says:

I like her, don’t get all the hate she gets. She is not a fame whore like Brangelina selling her personal life for attention. The outfit is gorg and yes the hair looks better wavy, also the ultra blond is gone and the multiple colours look better on her. Can’t wait for her movie with Mark Ruffalo, and hopefully her part in Iron Man 3 is better and bigger than in the 2nd. Love seeing her with RDJ as Pepperony.

    • autumndaze says:

Seriously? There is no greater “famewhore who sells her life for personal attention” than Gwyneth Paltrow.

Are you familiar with her narcissisticly-inclined GOOP column?
Her endlessly self-righteous statements on her food/body/career; she is as deep as a puddle of water.
She is the result of Hollywood nepotism and most of the time I am embarrassed for her.
Shilling for colonics and frozen foods in Europe?

Contrary to your opinion, I find her a distraction in movies; someone to tolerate in order to enjoy the other actors and plot.

    • Theresa says:

I have always liked Gwyneth, as celebrities go, and obviously have a different definition of famewhoring than others on this site. I don’t think it is particularly dastardly for her to have started her GOOP newsletter, she isn’t any different than the other scores of blogs out there by women who think they have something interesting to share with those WILLING to subscribe. She isn’t forcing you to read any of her blogs nor her interviews. She is no different than any of the “popular” actresses here that come out to shill their products (films or books or whatever) yet she is vilified for the practice? So what she happens to be a health junkie, better that than hiding in plain sight a hypocritical life of drug and alcohol abuse. She isn’t guilty of anything in my opinion except living well and being proud of it.

I happen to share many of her interests, especially around food. Sometimes my eyes roll with her expensive tastes but I would probably doubt her veracity if she suddenly went all budget too.

I don’t expect her to be anything other than what she has always presented herself to be; a dedicated mother, working actress, struggling wife and a public figure wanting to project a polished and professional image. What’s so bad about that??

      • Jayna says:

        Right on, Theresa.

      • Kate says:

theresa i agree with you. i like her site and i find it useful. i often reference her city guides when i travel. she has a lot of good info and i like her personality. she’s just being herself, it takes all kinds 🙂

      • Esmom says:

Well said. Gwyneth, are you pulling a Tom Hardy?

  13. Esmom says:

She looks great. I think she resembles her mom even more with the wavier hair.

So I wonder if the shrimp really ran out at Kate and Wills’ wedding??

  14. Dee Cee says:

That is some ugly dead hair with split ends..

    • sup says:

i read one must consume meat for healthy shiny hair. dame poopy hardly ever eats so that may explain the dullness of her hair even though she is probably getting all the treatments for it which money can buy.

  15. Mew says:

It would’ve been better if it wasn’t exactly that messy. It doesn’t look “out of bedroom sexy messy” it looks like “my hair’s gone crazy and I sprayed a ton of spray on it but it’s still going crazy”… she should practice her wavy look but it certainly softens her looks.

  16. Krock says:

The top is nice but her boobs look smooshed and pancakey.

Lol Kathy Griffin is on Wendy Williams talking about her right now. So funny how she says she treated her lol

  17. fd says:

I think this outfit is hideous. It’s something a 50 year old lady would wear to a charity lunch. And I am really sick of her bronzer and spray tanning. Pale skin is beautiful. That’s one thing you can say for Nicole Kidman, she doesn’t layer on the bronzer. Yuck.

I do like her hair much better wavy though. The straight-ironed hair needs to stop. Not just for her, but pretty much everyone.

  18. deep says:

Nothing she could do as far as I am concerned could make her look better. She lost me a long time ago because of her arrogant, thinking she is all superior personality. So, when I look at her all I see is ugly. The old saying is true..ugly on the inside..ugly on the outside. She gets under my skin.

  19. whybenice says:

She looks like an Olsen twin cousin.

  20. poppy says:

why does she insist on emphasizing her fried split ends? she couldn’t manage to curl the entire length under so they wouldn’t show?
she and blythe must not get on hence the fact she has no idea how to wear her hair loose at 40 years old.
still, better than the flat ironed hell she feels most comfortable wearing.
i almost had a heart attack to see she covered up her best feature. i figured she’d have just worn the top as a dress.
back in the day, while she was lecturing the world about mindless consumption, she and brad were flown to the white house to screen emma (?) for the clintons. think that was the last time she was in d.c. i’m sure her goop’s guide to d.c. was still written, word for word, by her, and is the best! always helping little old italian men, that goop.

  21. original kate says:

“WORST. PARTY. EVER. The queue was the highlight.”

    oh SNAP.

  22. Bobby sue says:

    Sorry, BUT:
Her roots are *TERRIBLE*. It’s like grey/black sludge at the part-line…she needs to not have her hair this light anymore but, I agree, waves are a huge improvement.
AND Tracy Anderson said “I’m going to re-build your butt”???? Ahhh…NO!
    She is tall-yes
    She is naturally slender-yes
Her butt is still flat and ugly.

  23. Bobbie says:

You can see her thong from the back of those pants! It’s like a light blue thong. Not that I want to be staring at her butt, I just saw it immediately when I looked at that last picture. That seems kind of bad (i.e tacky and not right) to me. Anyone else?

    • stacie says:

Yes-you are correct. That does not look good at all. I just don’t understand how things like this happen to celebrities. You know they have mirrors and assistants. Are people afraid to tell them that something isn’t just right?

  24. Reece says:

She looks good. I like the top especially. Btw, those are iron curls.
Sidenote: You call Bill Clinton Bubba? I call him Billy Bob, with an exaggerated twang. It drives my mom (from Arkansas) insane. 20 yrs of insanity! haha

  25. sarahtonin says:

Hair and makeup look great but has she always had a squinty left eye?

  26. Cait says:

Goopy’s hair does look better wavy. It still looks fried though and that middle part must go.

  27. sandy says:

She’s evolving into her mother Blythe Danner the older she gets. She does look better with wavy hair.. It flatters her face more.

    • Michele says:

She is starting to look more and more like her mom, who I think is still very attractive. I prefer the wavy look on Gwyneth. I’m not a big fan of the flatiron look on anyone. I like loose waves which is Gwyneth’s natural hair type. I wish she would ease up on the bleach though. Her hair looks a bit brittle in those pictures. Still, she’s very attractive and classy looking.

  28. apsutter says:

Her hair and face look much better but I still hate her. And, let me guess…that shitty outfit was designed by Stella McCartney?

  29. Shaz says:

    pretty!

  30. Mooshi says:

    >>Wow, she finally took out her blue contacts.<<

My hair is her same type. You can give me hair a fresh cut and it will get split ends the next day.

Ive been braiding it when I go to bed and now my hair is down to my butt.

  31. riri says:

Waves (and I suspect curls) work so much better for her.

It softens her features and she needs it.

  32. fluffybunny says:

Is it me or does she always look like she’s been sitting in the sun? She constantly looks bright red and also, needs to lay off the tanning because she looks like a bad leather handbag.

  33. horizonte says:

she talks about her hair on her latest goop! hahahahahaha

  34. foozy says:

i like her with straight hair. what a horrible outfit. looks even worst from the back
