Heidi Klum in see through Marchesa at the amfAR gala: bad bridal lingerie?

Heidi Klum
Here we have a few more women from the amfAR gala. (Some of our earlier coverage is here.) I’m not a big follower of fashion, and I’ll be honest I don’t know a lot about designers. Even I could ID this horrible see-through number as Marchesa on first glance. This is not cute, it’s not cheeky, and it looks like a bad excuse for a sexy bridal dressing gown. There are multiple see-through layers to this asymmetric dress, it’s got lace strategically placed to cover up Klum’s lady bits, and it just looks awful. I know Klum likes to push the fashion envelope, but it baffles me that anyone could step out of the house like this. The Fashion Patrol has a photo of this on the runway, and the dress doesn’t even look good on the model. I’ll say something nice, but not about this dress – she looked much, much better at The Paperboy premiere, where she was also wearing Marchesa and had the foresight to wear her hair half-down. It just looks greasy here.

Look you can see her undies from the side.

As a counterpoint, I’ll include Nina Dobrev in an amazing blue sequin off the shoulder Elie Saab. I wanted to headline this story with Nina, because I just love to see her on the red carpet. Nina looking killer is not news though. (Neither is Heidi looking fug, but still.) I admire how Nina, just 23, seems so in control of her fashion. She switches up her look frequently, and she doesn’t seem to have a go-to designer or a comfort zone that she falls back on. I could gush about Nina for a while. I even like her slicked back hair here, it emphasizes her features. Look at that slit. It’s just high enough to be incredibly sexy, without the danger of showing too much. Those silver strappy Jimmy Choo heels are perfect.

Here’s Kylie Minogue looking off her game in red Emilio Pucci. I don’t like the cut or style of the dress, which is slightly unflattering from some angles. From the side it’s really striking, but the dress does seem a little weird with all those cut-out areas along with the squarish deep neckline. It’s a risky look and she seems uncomfortable.

Also in red we have Petra Nemcova, and I feel confident guessing that this is also Marchesa, since Petra wears that label consistently. I’m torn because I love the color and fit of the dress, but find it uninspired with that single detail of feathers around the bodice. Petra pulls it off with attitude, a sleek up-do, and a really amazing necklace. I wonder how many carats she has around her neck. Those silver bow shoes are goofy, though, and she shouldn’t be showing them off.

There’s a reason Michelle Rodriguez plays the army chick in every movie. Even when she’s dripping in beautiful diamonds and wearing a perfectly lovely formfitting fishtail gown, she still looks like she’s about to kick your ass. I like how her personality shines through on the red carpet, though. She’s true to herself and it shows.

Heidi looks great! I get the feeling that she’s more into “costumes” than fashion.

Heidi has an amazing body. Don’t like what she is wearing though.

I don’t know this Nina chick. She is pretty and all, but her look doesn’t looks finished. Maybe it’s her hair?

Love the Dobrev dress. I love the vintage disco feel, which is hard to pull off. And most imprtantly, it stands out as different. I actually notice it.

(If I see one more strapless mermaid anything I am going to stab a designer. That look was tired 3 years ago–please leave it for the Davids Bridal sales rack)

Even on my wedding night, my nighty was much more demure than Heidi’s dress, and still looked sexy!

Nina looks really good, reminds me of old fashion Halston gowns. Very retro sexy and feminine.

why does marchesa either look like prom vomit or grandma’s idea of sexy boudior? the see-through thing looks like something a randy maud would wear.
michelle looks a lot like ali macgraw.

Heidis dress looks good -fairylike and airy- except for the bare ass. She pulls it off better than the model on the runway who´s too skinny for it.
Nina Dobrevs dress looks russian or arab, they tend to bespangle everything with glittery objects… Or like something an old woman would wear, like in a Cindy Sherman picture.
And Nina Dobrevs face is whiter than her body…
    And the coulour is prom-queenish…
Sorry, but it´s really, really fug.

the hemming of nina’s dress is atrocious, it looks like it’s falling off at the edge a bit. even worse than diane kruger’s gold sequin dress’s hem.
but, that aside, yeah, she looks great.

heidi is greeeaaat, no assist from the dress though. it could’ve been better (the dress). why won’t anyone at marchesa realize this? if a model can’t even make it look great, who can?

and minogue’s dress looks like it’s pointing towards her “ahem”. i hope gerard butler does not see it. he’ll think that it’s a personal invitation and not just a fashion faux pas.

Heidi is drop-dead gorgeous but often has lousy taste in clothes. I get that GC is now her colleague, but ugh.

I adore Nina Dobrev, she looks great here. She has great taste and always wears things that look good on her.

Also,I like Heidi Klum’s outfit too,it reminds me of the Blake Lively’s Chanel she wore last year I think.

I just love that Heidi Klum! I would never ever have the courage to wear that, no matter how good my body was. Seriously love that she does. I think everyone looked great.

I think Michelle also often plays the military/tomboy roles because she is so beautiful with minimal styling/makeup. You can’t have some blond barbie with false eyelashes pretending to be a soldier – you need a girl that looks pretty without all the make up.

    I have several thoughts-

When I was a little girl, I dreamed of wearing a negligee on my wedding night JUST like Heidi’s. Is she doing the “I may have had 4 kids, but I’m still hot and awesome”? (she is, but no-)

I LOVE that blue dress from a distance, but I’m not sure about the material up close- very pretty on Nina though-

Is Kylie Minogue’s eyebrow permanently stuck like that? That seems to be her go to look.

It doesn’t matter what Petra wears or how she looks- she’s been tainted by Sean Penn, and there’s no coming back from that. Ask Scarjo.

Heidi’s dress (since it’s Marchesa) is awful, she has a great body though (and we can see 99.9% of it).

Nina looks amazing, look at her legs!

Kylie I think looks great, These aren’t really the best shots I’ve seen of her in the dress though and she’s had some great looks over at Cannes too.

  17. A Fan says:

Heidi’s dress is awful…even though I do think she’s pretty. She’d look much better brunette (her natural color) – like her hair is when it’s pulled back.

Kylie is at the same point as Jennifer Lopez…time to wear more age-appropriate clothing. I get it – you have a nice figure, you’re still sexy, but the clothes aren’t working anymore.

Petra and Michelle don’t move me enough to comment.

    Nina? Well, wow.

  18. Hakura says:

Ugh, I’m just SO distracted by how wrong the color of Nina’s makeup is.

Her body is one mid-tan tone, but her face is 2 shades lighter. Her dress is pretty, she pulls it off well, & has gorgeous legs. But that skin makeup ruins it for me. Just jumps out in every photo.

Heidi looks like she has partial Bells Palsy. Her face is crooked esp in the nose & eye area.
