Madonna and Guy are divorced, she’s mad it cost her a dime

Madonna and Guy’s nearly eight year marriage was legally severed today at a hearing at the High Court in London. Neither Madonna nor Guy were present and the proceedings lasted just a few minutes. The two agreed on a settlement that makes Guy out to be the more responsible party. Guy will retain joint custody of his two boys and is receiving the cash equivalent of their London townhouse, about $37 million USD. He will also get to keep his London pub and their country home, but the settlement he agreed on is not even close to half the money Madonna earned during their marriage. According to The Sun, which has had insider stories throughout the divorce and is thought to have a source in the Madonna camp, Madonna is mad that the papers are making it seem like Guy is not asking for a dime.

The divorce sped through after the couple struck a deal on property, money and access to their kids. Last night Guy, 40, said: “It dragged on much too long and that had nothing to do with me. But it was never ever about money.”

As The Sun reported last month, Guy will keep the Punchbowl pub in London’s Mayfair and his beloved Wiltshire estate.

He will also get a cash payment equivalent to the value of their Marylebone townhouse — around £25million.

Film director Guy is worth £30million in his own right and could have claimed as much as half of Madonna’s £300million fortune.

He is accepting far less — but reports he was refusing to accept even a penny infuriated the Queen of Pop, 50.

A source said: “Madonna is livid that people think he hasn’t asked for a penny when he is walking away with millions.” Their case — Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S — was listed before District Judge Reid today.

Their decree nisi was announced at 10am in Court 10 of the Principal Registry of the High Court’s Family Division in High Holborn, central London.

A pal said: “It was threatening to become the messiest bunfight in years.”

The source said Rocco, eight, and adopted son David Banda, three, will split their time between America and Britain while 12-year-old Lourdes — Madonna’s daughter from an earlier relationship — will live with her mum full-time.

[From The Sun]

Leave it to Madonna to get mad at her now ex husband’s perfectly reasonable demands. At least their kids will be able to move on and not have to hear the details of their parents’ messy divorce. We could have been treated to a lot of potentially embarrassing information and allegations from both sides. Madonna and Guy’s two sons, Rocco, 8, and David, 3, are now with their dad in Liverpool, where he’s filming Sherlock Holmes.

Update: According to People, they were granted a “preliminary divorce” will will become official in 6 weeks if neither side disputes the ruling. Madonna issued a statement to the court that she was divorcing Guy for his “unreasonable behavior.” That’s rich coming from her.

God, from that header anyone would think they are dead

    Ha! Love the headline!

I said from the beginning that Guy would NOT go down the Heather Mills route, that it would never be about money for him, and I’m pleased and a little bit smug to see that he’s lived up to his good guy reputation and my good Guy expectations. 8)

Agreed, Xiao, that wasn’t the best choice for a header…

I’m happy for Guy that it’s officially over. Now he can eat normal food again! I’m really glad he got joint custody for the boys, I can’t believe Madonna even tried to not let that happen. She gets more awful every year and really doesn’t seem like a very good person. I miss the old Madonna!

I bet Guy is partying right now and well he should. Team Guy!

I am not a Madonna fan, but I did think she & Guy made a very attractive couple. Their Rocco is a happy looking child. Obviously they make beautiful children. I will miss seeing them together.

Im soooo glad for him.I bet she must be mad because know she can’t say horrible things about him now .Great that he has joint custody and that David and Rocco will have a dad to watch over them, let them watch tv,read great books, eat junk food …be kids!!!.Maybe it will be hard for Lourdes as she spent most childhood with him.She surely felt a slap on her face when he refused the money but asked the custody haha.Go Guy!!!

no more gristle for his diet

  8. Lore says:

He made out like a bandit, keeps his boys, his pub, his house and a good bit of cash. Better yet he’s rid of Madonna.
Christmas came early for Mr. Ritchie. Hopefully he’ll now enjoy his freedom and wait for the right woman instead of jumping into another mess.

Madonna is such a tool. I LOVED her during the early years, now….I just shudder when I think of her.

  10. Kaiser says:

So what’s the property/cash settlement? About $50 million?

He could have gotten more, but I’m happy for him. I know where Geronimo is going to be tonight – stalking the moneyed stallion named Guy! 😉

Those MSN Live things over the pictures are so distracting.

  12. Trashaddict says:

So none of this says what was bought with whose earnings. The Wiltshire estate – did they buy it while married or did he own it before? The pub, etc. I know she is mega rich but he does have some money of his own. Who really put what $ in? And as far as getting joint custody of his sons, is that really “making out like a bandit”? Seems normal to me. Would be more normal for them probably if he got full custody….who knows, maybe some other news will out. But no one will be able to believe it unless it’s from a third party, who’d believe Madonna’s camp anyway?

I feel sorry for Lourdes. Guy may not be her “father”
but he’s been a huge part of her life since age 3 or 4.
He’s also her brothers father. This custody arrangement will be very hard on her. The more adults a child has in their lives that love and support them the better. If only her self centered mother could see that.

She’ll just have to spend the money she could have used to fix that grand canyon between her teeth.
