Last week, we reported on Rihanna’s new cover for the July issue of Esquire as well as some scant interview excerpts where she said some ridiculous stuff about how she’s learned to ignore all the attention that comes with (I guess) posting one’s entire life to Twitter and Facebook. Now the full interview has hit newsstands, and it’s a relative doozy.
To recap, Esquire’s developing quite a reputation for writing really rude and bitchy profiles about their cover celebrities. Most recently, Tom Chiarella focused unnecessarily upon Bruce Willis’ bathroom and pear-eating habits. He’s also the same journo who stomped all over Matthew McConaughey’s weekend hospitality tour last year. Then there’s Lisa Taddeo, who attempted to foist her ex-boyfriend’s characteristics onto Bradley Cooper. Essentially, there’s been a fair amount of unprofessionalism and an apparent lack of preparation involved in a lot of these interviews, and it seems that Esquire’s newfound habits have spread across the pond as well.
Now Esquire UK’s Johnny Davis has tried to pull a fast one on Rihanna by grilling her about Chris Brown. At first, I can understand the point he’s trying to make, but he really gets carried away here, and it’s easy to see why Rihanna would get angry at being repeatedly cornered during the interview. Here’s the relevant text, which goes on at length, but I’m including so much of it to illustrate just how far this journo goes:
Esquire: “What has been the Twitter response to the Chris Brown remixes?”
Rihanna: “Some love it, some hate it, some love it but still hate that we did it. But the response in the end has been incredible.”
Esquire: “Was that [the recording session] the first time you’d seen him in a while?”
Rihanna: “When would we have seen each other? We’ve both been working and touring. [changes the subject]. This is really good food.”
Esquire: “It proved quite a controversial thing.”
Rihanna: “Well…definitely. Definitely. The whole thing caught me a little off-guard to be honest… especially the amount of… negative attention. Because it never occurred to me how this was going to be a problem, you know. It really didn’t.”
Esquire: “Because enough time had passed that it was OK?”
Rihanna: “I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know? In my mind, it was just music.”
Esquire: “Some people felt it sent the wrong message.”
Rihanna: [Angrily] “What was that? What message would that be?”
Esquire: “You’d gone back to someone who put you in the hospital.”
Rihanna: [Getting angry] “Oh really? Did I?”
Esquire: “Well… yes.”
Rihanna: “Did I? Did I? Did I?”
Esquire: “You went and recorded with him, yes.”
Rihanna: “Okay. In a completely professional environment. And on a complete professional note. I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that’s a whole different discussion. And if I ever do, then that’s something that y’all have to talk to me about when – if – that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is. I think a lot of people jumped to an assumption that was incorrect and they ended up looking stupid.”
Esquire: “The assumption you were dating again?”
Rihanna: “Because of a song. How stupid. If I was together with every collaborator I worked with… f-ck my life.”
Esquire: “Still, the lyrics didn’t do much to dispel that impression. His opening line is ‘Girl I want to f–k you right now/been a long time/I’ve been missing your body.’ You reply: ‘Remember how you did it/If you still want to kiss it/Then come and get it.’”
Rihanna: “That was the tone before he was even on the record. You think it was going to be about hopscotch or jump rope?”
Esquire: “So neither of you for a minute thought ‘This is going to put the cat among the pigeons’?”
Rihanna: “I could never see anything wrong with making music.”
Esquire: “Maybe the thing is that as an artist your personal and private life are intertwined, and you’ve already played on this. The first song you put out after the beating incident was ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ about domestic violence.”
Rihanna: “Absolutely. But ‘Love The Way You Lie’ was me as an artist working with Eminem as an artist, telling our stories individually. On a track together. I’m lost. I’m confused as to what you’re trying to get at.”
Esquire: “That it’s hard to separate the person who’s been the victim of domestic violence and the pop star singing about domestic violence.”
Rihanna: “I know. And that’s how f-cked up society is. There’s a lot of s–t y’all can’t get over. Y’all holding your breath on a lot of stuff that doesn’t matter. When you realize who you live for, and who’s important to please, a lot of people will actually start living. I am never going to get caught up in that. I’m gonna look back on my life and say that I enjoyed it – and I lived it for me – and God. This is turning into a tacky interview. What do you really want to talk about? I’m not here to [talk] about messy s–t.”
Esquire: “It’s just what’s been making the headlines recently.”
Rihanna: “OK! So do you want to talk about everything on Google? Or do you want to talk about stuff that my fans want to know? Let’s get to the real stuff. The stuff that’s important.”
Esquire: “What do your fans want to know?”
Rihanna: “You tell me, as a journalist. You’re asking the questions and I give you the answers. I can’t give the questions too.”
Esquire: “I’m sorry it’s upset you.”
Rihanna: “It hasn’t upset me. It upsets me that you keep asking the same kind of questions about stuff that’s trivial. What’s there to talk about? Are all your questions like that? Let’s move onto the next one.”
Esquire: “It’s just that you haven’t given an interview for a while. A lot has happened.”
Rihanna: “You think I haven’t given an interview for a while? I did four this morning.”
Esquire: “Did they go any better than this?”
Rihanna: “We’ll see [when they come out] tomorrow.”
[From Esquire UK]
Look, I know that Rihanna is a bit of a brat most of the time, and this fact is evident by those who haven’t even heard any of her music but have merely glimpsed her Twitter stream. I also think it was a very stupid move for her to record music with Chris Brown — not only because Rihanna was placing herself that much closer to actually getting back with him (relationshipwise) but also because it sends a very bad message to her young (and not-so-young), impressionable fans. However, this journalist didn’t know how to stop asking the same questions when Rihanna had already made it very clear that she wouldn’t discuss them any further.
It’s like Esquire and Esquire UK have been instructing their journos to deliberately irritate the living hell out of most of the celebrities that they profile over the past few years, and the final interviews have often been so twisted that the journos end up looking like douches themselves. Obviously, critical journalism has its place, but Esquire’s interview method of late has been rather counterproductive.
Incidentally, here’s Rihanna on the set of the new Seth Rogen movie, The End of the World, which also features Paul Rudd, James Franco, and Emma Watson. Rihanna plays herself in the movie, so there’s no danger of her showing off her (nonexistent?) acting skills.

How was the journalist out of line? Let’s be honest, Rhianna recorded the song with Brown BECAUSE of the attention it would get. Well, here it is. She said that she wanted to be asked about what the fans wanted to know. Why would she think that this is something her fans wouldn’t be confused about as well?
I don’t think that she is foolish enough to think that she could record with Brown and no one would bat an eyelash. That is why they did it. The journalist wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t ask her about it.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
I don’t think the asking is out of line. I also think she’s an idiot for working with CB, and I think she did it for attention and is kind of dumb in general.
However, he was seriously grilling/badgering her while she got more and more uncomfortable. So, because she’s famous and did something stupid, she had to sit through that? At a certain point, he should have backed off and changed the subject. This reminds me of paparazzi badgering celebs, and after they snap people are like “well, you’re famous, you should have expected it!” nope. Asking is one thing, pushing and pushing is another- he didn’t want real answers from her, just to antagonize her, like an Internet troll or something.

Without the audio we won’t truly know how he was treating her, but the way I read the comments from the interviewer doesn’t show him being rude at all. He was just asking basic questions and not exaggerating or embellishing the truth. She did record with someone who put her in the hospital. I didn’t see his questions as baggering her at all, she just didn’t like being confronted with the truth.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
I didn’t personally see it as badgering. I mean it seemed less like “I’m doing this o piss you off” and more like “I want an answer and you’re just dancing around”
Her responses really reeked of a total absence of any honesty. Unless she really is that stupid. I mean…she had to know her fans would have a negative reaction, so why not just admit that?
Her going “Did I? Did I? Did I?” seemed very confrontational to me. It seemed like she was trying to scare him off or intimidate him and he just didn’t quiver.

Totally agree. Desperately seeking attention and then not able to understand that people would want to ask about it? Wah Wah Wah. She’s an idiot – she and Katy Perry should be shipped off to an island, never to be heard from or seen again. Would we really miss them? Doubtful. There’s always another irritant waiting in the wings to replace them.

If Rihanna had acted like an adult during the interview and kept in mind that as a young, popular, female performer she is, unfortunately, going to have an influence on young girls, she should have been far more responsible with her words. If she had been, the guy interviewing wouldn’t have pushed as much as he did.
Her wording, “…And that’s how f-cked up society is. There’s a lot of s–t y’all can’t get over. Y’all holding your breath on a lot of stuff that doesn’t matter.” What kind of a message does that send? Domestic violence doesn’t matter?
The girl is an IDIOT, and a poor role model for girls everywhere. But, should we be surprised? Her video with Eminem, Love the Way You Lie, goes beyond glorifying violence, it almost excuses it. So do her interviews.

If you don’t want to be asked about it, then DON’T DO IT. She put herself in that situation by going back to a woman beater. She then tries to justify it. I have no empathy or sympathy for her.

Exactly! She consistently does the exact opposite of a person trying to deflect attention. I don’t care what she wears or who she “dates” but her TMI tweets defy her logic.

I don’t think the journalist went too far. I think a lot of people would have wanted to ask these questions, but are afraid to do it. This person did it, was about time. Rihanna’s childish reaction only shows she is kind of a dumbass. She should have known recording a song with your woman-beating ex will cause questions. Someone will ask the hard questions, and you better have an answer, otherwise don’t record songs with your crazy ex.

Well, at least we can definitely agree that she’s a dumbass

I used to be a big fan, but I’m just sick of her and her constant attention seeking. She is incredibly talented, but she is acting like a reality star most of the time.
She KNEW what would happen if she recorded with Chris Brown. She is not stupid. She got all the attention she wanted, and now she is whining about it?
GMAFB. You got what you asked for. I don’t think the journalist was out of line at all. He called her out on it, and she had no answer for it.
He said the truth, and I’m glad he called her out on her bullsh*t.
I’m so sick of these celebrities wanting it both ways. Well, it doesn’t work that way in life.

The “Birthday cake” song is most def on my sex playlist with the husband. Yeah–it was convtroversial to work with Chris Brown. But you think she makes the business descisions? Obviously her fat slick caucasion record execs though this was a good idea to contact CBs pple to have him make a few tracks to fatten up her song. Really, the only thing to this is money. Nothing more, nothing less. They were in seperate countries when they did the tracks, and it seems like they’re talknig to eachother, but all they are talking to is their banking account.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
I’m actually offended by S stating caucasian record execs were responsible for this. That statement is uncalled for. One of the founders of Def Jam, her record label, was Russell Simmons. He’s black or African American, whichever description that floats your boat. I’d do more research, but with knowing that, I’m pretty sure its a diverse company, plus I don’t care to prove how diverse a company is, just atleast I’m willing to do minimal research before making a blanket statement.
Rumor has it that her record label was not happy about this collaboration, but who knows due to the buzz it created.

Regardless of the journalist’s professionalism (or debatable lack thereof), I think what is really upsetting Rihanna is that the “I’m going to do what I want to do” excuse is just not cutting it. Even she probably has realized by now that the collaboration was a mistake but just won’t admit to it.
If she honestly thought that making music with the douchebag who who beat the crap out of her was not going to be a big deal, then she is a bigger idiot than I thought she was. She knew it, her people knew it and probably were very opposed to it, and she still did it. Don’t be all surprised if it blows up in your face afterwards.

^^This!!! I absolutely agree with you.
The journalist was being an a-hole but in a way I like that he went in hard on her. So many journalists do fluff pieces on celebs just to appease celebs. So basically they hold no accountability to the shit they do. This guy wasn’t allowing her to get away with it. Yes he pushed the limit but I sort of wish a lot of journalists would do that with certain people on certain subjects.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
I agree. And I don’t think the journalist was being an ass. He was persistent and required Rihanna to actually answer the questions he asked–which is something celebrities often aren’t used to. Celebs want to use the media to say what they want to say; why shouldn’t the journalist use the medium to get an honest story– one that isn’t just an ad for her album?
When Rihanna and Chris Brown collaborated, they knew their collaboration itself would garner a lot of media. They used their history to sell records. The collaboration itself was news, and she knew it. So why shouldn’t she have to answer questions about it?

I don’t know, the reporter was trying to get a real answer instead of more of the glib, graphic smokescreen that Rihanna puts up. It’s bs that she didn’t know that the remix would cause a controversy and she can’t be so clueless as to think it wasn’t a bizarre move to perform with him (right?!). Reporter wanted her to say “Yes I did it for shock value or to make xyz point” or indicate some behind the scenes understanding, not go on about how making music is so pure it can never be wrong.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
Exactly. The reporter wanted some answer to at least define how to look at that mess and she was just “Did I? Did I? Did I?” and claiming she was surprised people thought the tone would change since he was on it.
Um, no people wondered why HIM when there are hundreds of other male singers you could have asked to do the remix. Maybe the marijuana is killing off her brain cells.

I laughed out loud when she said she has 4 interviews coming out the next day. I don’t know why reporters think asking the same questions ten times means they are hard hitting, no pun intended. They just look disrespectful and stupid. Rihanna has talked about Chris a lot, even since recording together. I don’t see the point in continuing to talk about it.

i agree Samira, how much longer will this Chris/Rihrih debacle draw out? As months and years elapse, speaking about this sure has to start looking idiotic? how many points have to be made? There certainly is nothing edgy/ground breaking about it anymore from a journalistic stance. #Letitgo….jeex

I think because Rihanna and no one else has made Chris into something to talk about.
No one forced her to record the Cake remix with him, that stirred public attention.
No one forced her to dye the model’s hair blonde in We Found Love, that was a big “Look at This” if I’ve ever seen one.
Twit-insulting his GF, wearing shirts that imply he’s somehow the victim…
Rihanna wants the attention but doesn’t know how to handle the reality of what her actions show others, it’s like Charlie Sheen…if you choose to act crazy for 5 yrs you’ll be asked “why are you so crazy?” for 5 more.

Maybe I’m just a meanie, but…I didn’t see anything THAT wrong with what he asked her. It’s the same stuff many other people have said when discussing it, and it’s a bit ridiculous of her to do such things and then expect no response or question on it. The journalist probably should have backed off out of decency when she got upset, but I think all the questions themselves were legitimate.
And in this case, it’s not society that’s f-ed up about the situation, but Rihanna herself, if she doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

I think if you’re familiar with Rihanna’s tone and actions when she gets pissed during an interview (Battleship when asked about Kutcher for example) I think you’d see she got quite pissed and was likely yelling at one point. As eckhart tolle might note, something in the line of questioning ‘triggered’ or raised Rhianna’s pain body frequency. If it really wasn’t an issue for her, or as she puts it a ‘trivial’ thing it would not have raised such irritation and anger in her. The problem with rhianna is she is more a mixture of dark shadows than light, her temper tantrums, anger and promiscuity are a cry from within, a self-sabotaging personality whose issues have grown in such extremity that they have basically outridden any slight hint of pure beauty within. I’m all for controversial journalism if it happens to reveal the true nature of people.

I don’t think he was out of line at all. I think Rihanna is used to getting sugarcoated and everyone sort of asking her benign questions about topics.
I think the interview was brilliant. She claimed she wanted to be a role model to young girls, but then recorded a sex song with the same man who put her in a chokehold.
She claimed that you should separate the ‘artist from the person’ but then contradicted herself weeks ago when she got angry at Chris for one of his song lyrics. (which did not mention her or really insinuate it to be at all)
I think the interview was perfect, we need more like them for these really hypocrisy filled stars.

I really don’t think the interviewer was out of line. She should’ve answered the questions and moved on. The interview wouldn’t have been half as long and she really made herself look like an idiot. Best way to change the subject is to remain calm and not give the interviewer more stuff to write about. You’d have thought she’d learned that somewhere. But then again, most would see what’s wrong with recording that song (forgot the name) with your former abuser and douchebag extraordinaire and not-so-secretly hook up with him.
Also, I think Rihanna is a brat and surrounds herself with yes-people. That’s why she got pissed. No one is calling her out on her bullsh-t and when someone does she only knows how to respond by getting angry. She really is to blind and big-headed to see the the forest for the trees.

I absolutely can not stand Rihanna’s “singing” (if you want to call it that) but I agree with her here. This whole CB thing is so old now. I dont blame her at all for not wanting to talk about or make the interview about it any more. No matter what she’s doing, an album or movie, it all still comes back to CB. She cant win no matter how she answers. she’s obviously going to do what she wants so let her, what happens after will be on her. I dont think woman who are not celebs but in DV situations would appreciate it always being brought up either. Its a personal matter and should be treated as such unless she wants to discuss it.

If she had stayed away from him after everything that happened and was legitimately trying to move on with her life, I’d agree with you.
But she hasn’t – quite the opposite, and that’s what the journalist was pressing her on. Most DV victims who were able to get out wouldn’t then turn around and happily work with their abuser again when there’s absolutely no need (or logical reason) to do so.

Only time and staying away from CB – (yes, even for ‘music’) – is her only hope. Oh, and getting some self esteem so that getting beat down is not o.k.

I can respect and even sympathize with those stars who really try to avoid the media glare when it comes to protecting their private lives.
But twitter fights, insulting his GF, putting Chris either physically in the video or in the lyrics of 4/5 of her songs as recent as ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Cake’, wearing shirts about him.
Rihanna is starved for attention and she wants others to look at her relationship with Chris. I think the reality is she’s likely manipulated the relationship for monetary gains and her music career and doesn’t know how to handle getting judgement for that.
This isn’t a girl who wants a private life.

Here is the deal. Her and Chris were together, they loved each other. Those bonds dont disappear just because he was violent with her. No one can tell this girl how to feel but for her to act innocent about “making music” and the subject matter she chooses to make music about is ridiculous. She makes music about what causes controversy because it makes her money. In the very least it gives her attention. He asked great questions, she had ridiculous answers.

I will say that maybe he could have phrased it differently, but that’s about it. I’m glad he called her out on this-the collaboration was CLEARLY meant to generate controversy and publicity for sales and profit. Her outrage is misplaced and hypocritical since pretty much everything she’s done in the last year has been to get attention in any way possible and she’s mad that it isn’t working out the way she wanted. She’s coming across as a spoiled, bratty teenager who isn’t getting her way and it’s gotten old.

I don’t what to think about Rihanna. She didn’t sign up to become a national mouthpiece against domestic violence even people tried to make her one. She probably didn’t think that the police who took pictures of her injuries would leak them to press, and sadly she probably didn’t think Chris would hurt her the way that he did. The ENTIRE world knows you got beat by your now ex boyfriend and pictures of your injuries are all over the internet for everyone to see. Can you imagine how that would F someone up? Not many young women deal with that level stress of having the entire world in your business. She did the song to lash out against everyone. And as much as she says she doesn’t care, it was just music, etc.. she does, she just doesn’t want to appear like it. Her even saying “if I go back to him” is very telling. She has issues and she needs help. An IF should not exist 3 years later. It’s actually very pitiful.

On one hand, I’m surprised she’s still entertaining that idea of getting back together, that it’s even a remote possibility for her. On the other, I guess I’m not. Most people go back to their batterer 7-8 times on average, before they finally leave (or unfortunately, do not ever make it back out). Batterers are really really good at brainwashing their victims and convincing them that it was a one-time thing, a passionate display of anger. And Rihanna seems to like things a little dangerous and edgy – so unfortunately, this guy does still hold some appeal for her. I think deep down she probably believes him, and is romanticizing the volatility in their relationship. Hopefully, she eventually meets a nice guy that will break the hold CB still seems to have on her.

lena80:
I was going to comment that R and C’s collaboration was prob. a publicity stunt to drum up interest and controversy (which ultimately = $$$), to further R’s edgy image. Rihanna doesn’t want people to be cool about her return to Chris, albeit professionally – she wants us all to go crazy about the purposeful controversy, but she plays it like she doesn’t.
But after reading your comment, I think the truth is more likely that she is trying to find her way with sorting out a terrible thing, and she’s floundering badly.

@ Ramona Q,
I just think people forget that she was 20/21 yrs old when she was brutally beat and the ENTIRE world knows about it and saw the pictures plus her statemnent of what happened. I don’t see how that could not F someone up on profound level. And to top it off, I think she went right back to work on her next album. This whole “bad” girl routine she is doing is just that…a routine. In my opinion she’s still suffering, and that “IF” remark is downright pitiful.

Oh, sure, throw in God’s name when the going gets tough.
Not everything about an artist is fair game. But when they write explicitly about it, tweet it, facebook it, then there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be discussed in an interview. She sounds like a spoiled twit who is a few fries short of a meal.

She’s been getting pissy with journalists a lot lately, huh? The journalist was just doing his damn job. She and Chris Brown both knew what they were doing when they decided to collaborate.

I’m not a fan of Rhianna’s at all, but I think the reporter was deliberately rude in order to get a reaction out of her.
It wasn’t that he ‘asked’ the question–which she answered–it’s that he asked it five or six times, even after she made it apparent she was ‘more’ than ready to move on to another question.
Quite honestly, this is the same exact thing Robin Roberts? did to Chris Brown on “Good Morning America.” The fact that he didn’t explode on air, but let his frustration out in the dressing room, was jumped on in glee. Some saw it as proof that Chris Brown is an angry man … an ‘animal.’ But the truth is that, like the reporter for Esquire, she deliberately went after him–and this, after his people let “Good Morning America” know that he only wanted to talk about the CD he was there to promote–in order to get a reaction out of him.
An event happened in Chris and Rhianna’s lives. They both have successfully dealt with it, and have moved on. The Public at large seems mad as hell at the fact that these two young people are handling the situation like adults in interacting with each other in their shared music profession like … well, professionals.
Instead of reacting to what happened between these two in the past, perhaps we should look at them as they are now. The fact that Rhianna is able to work with Chris (their joint music venture was by her invitation, after all) speaks volumes to me. I don’t think her actions say “Baby, oh baby let’s get back together.” I think her actions said “Shit happened, we dealt with it, let’s move on.”
Rhianna doesn’t seem to see herself as the victim the public wants her to be. She gave a long interview about all the shit that happened right before her first CD after the tragic event. Personally, I think she’s said it all. And so has Chris Brown.

I dont think Chris Brown throwing a chair at a window proved him any less of an angry man simply because he didn’t hit Robin in the face like he did Rihanna.
I think it’s glossing over the issue of how a man can physically or mentally intimidate a person and shows Chris lacks the self-control to NOT react violently.
And if we are to view them as they are now then they’re both two incredibly volatile and immature people who are incredibly destructive. Look at Chris’ phone snatching and Twitter threats/fights.

so, here’s the thing… If Ri and CB ever got back together, that would be their decision and their business. However, if she is going to pull stupid stunts to get attention, than bitch better expect attention. You want it, you got it, dumbass.

I guess I read a different interview because I see NOTHING wrong with it. In fact, I find it refreshing that the reporter wanted an answer and wasn’t kissing her ass. These are questions we’ve all been asking since she put out that song. I believe this is the first time she’s said she’s not back with him (lie). She does these things for attention and then she’s shocked when people call her out on it? She’s so dumb and I cannot wait for her to flop.

I thought it was interesting, and she’s playing naive and being defensive. That reporter asked what a lot of people would want to know so he WAS doing his job.

Is there anything going on w/her besides the same bs drama. UGH.
rihanna is just use to interviewers backing down the moment she shows a little bit of attitude. He kept at it and I thought it was hilarious. Lets be real here, do you really think it is hard to get this stupid little girl angry? No. She probably fly off the hedges at every little thing.

If you’re going to record music with the man who put you in the hospital you’d better expect somebody’s going to ask you some questions. If Riri’s looking for an example in this department because she’s ‘confused’ hear this: Tina Turner never recorded any more music with Ike after she left.(But then again, the fool child probably doesn’t even know who Tina Turner is…sigh)

This interview reminds me of when I was a teenage getting grilled by my mom. The moment she started questioning me about something I did, I would either burst into tears or get defensive not know how to answer her w/o incriminating myself. lol.

I was on board up until about half way through that. Both were within reason to say what they said. But then the guy starts belabouring it. You made your point and she’s not budging, so move on. For me, I get that a song is not a confession. People sing about being lovers and not mean it just like they act like killers in movies without ever actually having killed someone. It *is* a bit weird, though, if an actor and actress who had a history of domestic violence starred in a movie together. I get the claim of professionalism there, but it’s still a bit weird, but perhaps I can see the idea of a gesture saying “we can still be professional” might be intended to bury the hatchet rather than stir the pot.

For God sake she’s a talentless moronic pop star not the prez of the US,I’ll be glad when she and her “music” disappear for good, please who actually listens to her whiny autotuned overproduced noise and thinks it’s good music? In any of her interviews does she talk about in detail music in general, nope, that would require intelligence and not vapid narcissism. We need new pop “stars” because the ones we have are tedious aholes.
I hear you hk9, its amazing how little these tarts know of the greats like tina, watch tina and mick at the conclusion of the we are the world concert Classic,
These tarts are so empty and up their own rears it’s pathetic and laughable.

I don’t think it was out of line, actually. It was a hard interview, sure, but she has never even asked herself any hard questions about possibly the most traumatic event in her life. She justifies working with Brown again saying it was “a totally professional note.’ If you dated a coworker who then attacked you, would you ever work with that person again? For any reason?
And she could have walked out of the interview. I think it is fine and that she should dwell on those questions some more.

I’m glad this journalist kept pushing the legit questions even though it was making her uncomfortable. I felt like I actually caught a glimpse of what I really wanted to know, as a fan of sorts.
1.Prior to recording with Chris Brown, they never had the chance to meet up because they just work so much. When people work and tour, there’s absolutely no down-time they could use to connect with anyone un-related to their work.
2. Lyrics from the cake song about missing hooking up with an old partner were purely coincidental and had nothing to do with real life whatsoever. Same with Love the way you lie.
3.When she says she was not expecting people to make a big negative debacle about her recording with her abusive ex, what she’s trying to say is that she suspected they might but didn’t think they had the right to. She thinks her fans should only be interested in the aspects of her personal life that she thinks makes her look good. Like being into S&M.
On the flattering side, she can make some quite dance-able songs and she’s very beautiful with an interesting style.

LOVE this journalist for calling her out! She gets pissed because she knows its true! Kudos to this journalist for trying to make her take responsibilty for working with Chris when she should have nothing to do with a guy who put her in the hospital!

Im not here to talk about messy sh.t? She wants to talk about things that arent trivial?? Someone beasing the crap out of you isnt trivial!!! The fact that she tries to trivilaize it is so sad. Oh yes Rhianna we know you want everyone to sweep the fact under the rug that you worked with a piece of crap who put you in the hospital. She is desperately trying to justify his actions which is so pathetic. She needs therapy. She is a mess!

If the journalist was the Pope then I give him a pass. He works for a money making enterprise so he has no moral authority. I am not defending Rihanna; it is her life; she has every right to f##k it up if she so chooses. She is an adult who is not on his payroll; so he has on authority to ask her questions about her choices. I am so sick of the smugness that surrounds discussion about her. If one despises her just do what normal healthy humans do; do not buy her music; support any of her commerical activities nor go to her concerts. I saw a clip of an English journalist mocking Bob Marley; cannot remember his name. But most of the planet knows Bob and I still listen to his music. Go Figure.

I get tired of interviewers handling celebs with kid gloves. Most of them are brats and don’t know how to articulate on tough questions because they easily get what they want before they even ask for it. Most interviews are to stroke their egos than to give any real insight into their lives. Rihanna could have handled it better.

This interview is f*cking gross but I’m not surprised that may of you don’t see that. Rihanna is the anti-christ to some of you. I get that she behaves in a certain way and acts all shocked when people call her out for it but that does not excuse the reporter for being a total shit.
Some of you are saying ‘kudos to the reporter’. Kudos for what ?? For interrogating a victim of abuse over something that is absolutely no one’s fucking business? what does she owe to that reporter, to you, to anyone in the general public regarding this issue? why does she have to explain shit to you? do you honestly think the best approach to victims is to harass them over their personal decisions and make abundantly clear just how much you disapprove of THEM and the things THEY do? this reporter can fuck off and so can anyone who thinks this is any way appropriate or that she was ‘out of line’ for responding with hostility. Go talk to chris brown about why he did what he did in the first fucking place, don’t bring this shit up and blame the VICTIM for doing whatever she needed to do in her own life to cope or to move on.
Ugh…I don’t even like this broad but the comments on her posts are always so fucking stupid.

I would not advise any victim of DV to cope with it themselves. Victims of DV should get help through psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and/or counselors in order to cope with the effects of abuse in a beneficial way. Just because she is not in a mental ward does not mean she has dealt with or moved on from it. In fact, most of her actions seem to indicate that her coping mechanism is to minimize her abuse (this is probably why she can’t articulate why she did the song with him specifically instead of many other artists out there, denial). No one in Rihanna’s inner circle is going to tell her to get help because she might drop them out of her circle. Maybe one day she will see why people were not happy with her doing that song with him…because once again we watched as he made her a victim. Right now though, it wasn’t him, it’s us – we just don’t understand their relationship.

Making a record with someone who hurt you that badly will garner attention, and making an erotic record that alludes to a physical relationship will garner even more. You can’t push buttons and then act surprised when people question you. The only thing I will say is that Rhianna clearly never felt she was a victim or portrayed herself as one. That’s other people’s perception.

She’s not my kind of woman at all, but let’s draw a parallel between her and QE2, yes really. QE2 has been married to a philanderer, her son is one etc etc Should everyone invite themselves in and dictate? No. Should Rihanna be more subtle – its not her style. There’s a boundary somewhere that people will have the affront to always want to push. The journalist did, and frankly he comes across as a weird mix of sanctimonious transgresser. Who’s better?

RiRi is living in a bubble if she believes what she said about being ‘surprised’ people were shocked she is promoting a song with her abusive ex. Either she is being played or she is really stupid. Either way, keep your mouth shut might be some advice to think about, next time.
I’m glad the interviewer went there with her. Why not? She acts all proud and like she has nothing to hide so, bring it on. She surely has to know that she condones him by appearing with him, singing with him and defending him. It will come back to haunt her in the end. No love for this kind bs…

I feel conflicted over my opinion of the interviewer in this case. They did press the issue of CB, because they were getting roundabout answers, & Rihanna made it obvious she wasn’t ‘into’ answering properly, which pissed her off.
On the other hand… Rihanna is being paid to sit down to an interview, & the interviewer is a journalist who’s job is to ask those questions (which in this case were the only thing anyone was interested in. The fans want answers about this subject) & get the story.
She claimed her ‘relationship’ with CB while doing those collabs was purely professional… But then she wouldn’t talk about him at all, not even under a professional subject.
She had to know exactly what was going to be focused on. It’s overshadowed her music career entirely, & gained her tons of attention from controversy. She uses it to her advantage, then becomes indignant when she’s questioned?
I liked & supported her for a long time. Not anymore. She’s being a first class brat, & if she ends up in the hospital because of him again, I just can’t feel sorry for her. (NOT saying she deserves to be beaten, just that she seems determined to put herself right back in that position.)

Hm, there’s no audio so I can’t speak to the tone of his questioning but I’m with those who think that the journalist was not at all out of line. Was he persistent yes? But I don’t think he was disrespectful or rude and he made some excellent points. As to her comments, I maintain that the girl is in some serious denial and needs therapy.

I’m with you, I do wish there was an audio of this interview (I’m sure there’s an audio recording during all interviews, but we’re never gonna hear it.)
I was impressed that the interviewer seemed to remain so calm & reasonable throughout her tantrum.

he was just asking the questions people want to know about. That is his job, if he’s a proper journalist.
She’s probably just used to being coddled and using the press as her personal mouthpiece.

Agreed. If there were things she didn’t want to be asked about, that’s the sort of thing to discuss before an interview (complete with payment) is arranged.
