Cate Blanchett: “Shaving off my hair is so liberating… I’m thinking about doing it again”

These are some new photos of Cate Blanchett arriving at LAX yesterday. Thoughts on her outfit? Only Cate could pull this off, and even then… just barely. I’m not big into plaids, and I really don’t “get” why anyone would want to wear a plaid suit, but sure. On Cate, it works. It could also work on Tilda Swinton and Alan Cumming. And that’s about it.

Cate also covers the Summer issue of Gotham, but from what I can see from the interview, it’s all about her theater in Sydney. While I’m happy for Cate and her husband and their commitment to bringing quality theater to Australia, I find all of that stuff kind of tedious. Maybe I’m just sad because I miss seeing Cate in movies. In any case, you can read some excerpts of her Gotham piece here.

In addition to the Gotham article, Cate recently spoke to an Australian newspaper, and these quotes were much more interesting. I didn’t know she was just cast in Woody Allen’s new movie! That’s something. Also, she’s considering shaving her head again! She says, “Shaving off my hair is so liberating. I had to do it once for a film role, but I’ve done it periodically too. At school it was probably to rebel, but I cut my hair short a few years ago and I’m thinking about doing it again.” Have you ever seen Cate with a shaved head? She looks amazing.

Cate also says she hates working out: “I try to be healthy but I find exercise deathly dull. It tends to be easier to get outside in Australia, but the rain and floods have been atrocious in the past few years which limits things… Luckily, work keeps me fit and I’ve just been on stage with a show that’s very physical, which staves off the gym for a bit longer.” Eh… I believe her. I think she keeps active without being a gym rat. She seems like she has a really awesome metabolism too.

Oh, and she’s 43 years old. This is why she should be the poster girl for good skin care.

She is just so amazing. I know she’s really into their theater stuff, but I’m glad she’s doing more films too, I’m such a big fan of her work.

Cate is my poster girl for everything! We are the same age and she was even pregnant at the same time that I was…I admire her beauty, her style and her intelligence. I too miss her in films lately.

I love Cate Blanchet. She is an original without trying to be an original. You can always tell when a star tries too hard.
    Plus she’s totally talented.
    Have I mentioned I love Cate? 🙂

one of three actresses whose baldheaded parts i like watching. kate’s philippa, sigourney’s ripley, and portman’s evey.

Gotta love her when she looks this good looking like a bit of a mess.

    She looks messy.

I have such a girl crush on her! I LOVE that she is running a theater, that says so much about her. I also love this outfit (though it would look absurd on me). It looks very comfortable for a suit, and yet very quirky cool at the same time.

i love, love, love, and want that suit. it looks great on her. and i think for others, it’s mostly about fit & the proportion of the print.

I have serious envy for women who can pull off shaved heads; Natalie, Kate and Sigourney being previously mentioned.

I’ve done it a lot. I saw some pics and my hair was in a buzz. Right now, as long as I’ve ever had it. Hair to me is an accessory.

Is she amazing or what? I don’t even mind that my husband thinks she is beautiful. We are the same age as well. I love that 43 can still look amazing! Yay for women these days!

I am a Cate Blanchett fan!

I shaved my head once when I got tired of growing out a hair coloring mistake. It was glorious and liberating indeed! Not that I looked so good but did I ever enjoy getting out of the shower and just drying my head with a towel and go! Plus the wind on my naked head was wonderful.

Everyone ought to try it once!

  13. tripmom says:

Love her, love the suit, love the bag, love the whole thing.

I TOTALLY know what she means about it being liberating. I cut my shoulder length hair into a pixie about 2 months ago. The day after the haircut I woke up, ran my fingers through my hair, and got on with my life. It was WONDERFUL.

She has three sons to race after, that is exercise enough!

    she is so gorgeous.

Yes, yes it is. I’m sporting a short fro right now and am debating growing it out longer, cutting it shorter or relaxing.

Cate has great bone-structure so she does pull it off rather well.
