I agree with Ailine — Katie is a ridiculous name for a grown woman. I also agree with Esmom — Tom’s attempt to change Katie’s name has always bothered me.

Great job on the retrospective. It really does play out in the pics. And it reminded me of those jogging pics which seemed to happen right about the time you pegged it as starting to go bad.

And yes, she was definitely up to something with that sparkle back in her eye, in the last photo.

To me it looks like something changed in 2008. Katie’s appearance changed and the way she looked at him changed as well. She didn’t seem as giddy as she did from 2005 till 2007 when the relationship was still fresh. I guess that happens to a lot of couples. It’s nice to be able to do this photo progression because we can’t do it with normal couples or even ourselves; sometimes it is too painful to see how happy many people are in the first several years of a relationship and marriage then wonder where it all went wrong. A lot of the time it is just a person coming to their senses and finally taking off the rose colored glasses to see who they’ve really married.

There is no question in my mind that Scientology played a large role in Katie’s unhappiness. However, I also think that there was just a natural decline in the relationship once Suri became such a huge responsibility. Katie ended up being a boring stay at home mother while Tom traveled and made movies. She probably had something different in mind when she decided to marry him. Probably expected him to help her career. Perhaps cast her in MI or help her land a few good roles in between being a wife and mother. In Tom’s mind, maybe he was perfectly content with Katie fading into the background as a full-time mother.
