My mother's ten years older than she is and in better shape. Seriously. And she never even wears makeup. A couple of her friends are, too. The looseness of her arm skin and the extra softness around the hips in that photo are what I'm referring to. Slim women with good genes who eat well and take exercise look that way. The ones I know do, anyway.

Should probably add that my mother was a photographic model (too short for anything else) in the 60s, so she has extraordinary bone structure. Women like that age beautifully without work. But looking at the way the fabric is ruching around a skin fold just above Jerry Hall's waist, that's normal ageing plus excellent dressmaker-work and Spanx.

Not a chance she's au naturel. We women over 50 end up getting that squarer looking body because hormones store fat in our upper abdomens - a new spot for most of us. Not good ole Jer tho - unless we're buying that she's natural AND still having periods? Maybe she doesn't count lipo as surgery either.

The difference should be obvious. You can wash makeup off, but plastic surgery is permanent. Also, there are risks with any type of surgery, especially with anesthesia. Surgery is pretty drastic if you don't absolutely need to have it.

"Her body is that of a woman pushing 60?" Have you taken a look around at the general public? When i think of "pushing 60," i think of preliminary jowls and full fledged bat wings...hell, when i look at her, the only kind of pushing i see are push ups! Perception is a funny thing. I hope when i'm "pushing 60," that this will be my version.

So why is getting work done any worse than wearing makeup?

I think you hit the nail on the head with the comment about these people not facing the aging process, and desperately hanging on to whatever they feel gives a youthful appearance.

There should be more respect and appreciation for the aging process, not fear. We are all going in the same direction and all the plastic surgery in the world won't matter when the celebrities (and us) hit 80+ years.

r. She's throwing everyone into one category. Sure, there are the pulled plasticized women. But tons of women get plastic surgery. Many woman genetically aren't blessed. They have lots of skin hanging over their eyes or fat pads under their eyes that waking up every morning makes them feel old. Maybe they feel young inside in their fifties but their eyes always look old or tired and they have that loose, jowely look, loose skin under their chin. Why shouldn't they tighten that? I have been born with great bone structure. But in my sixties I am sure I will do a little something. My friend at
30 already has an older look and looser skin. She has said she
will get plastic surgery. Jane Fonda got it a couple of years ago and looks great. My mom at seventy was an energetic, vibrant woman, with barely any lines around her eyes and still had pretty eyelids, no loose skin, but she hated all the looseness that was happening on her thin face all around her jawline. She would have done something if
she hadn't died.

I have big eyes, but for a month one time I kept waking up with heavy swelling. It was awful and I practically had no eyelids. We finally figured out I was allergic to a medicine. But I felt old and ugly every morning for that month trying to get ready. Thank God I got my noncreppy eyelids back. But It made me realize if I get older and ever have eyes like that I would get them done in a heartbeat.

It's the women like the housewives show with overbotoxed face, too many fillers, blown
up lips, too pulled, etc. It's overdoing of too many things instead of a freshening up of their face that is so bizarre and unappealing. Actually, they look older becUse they look phoney and sometimes harder with the "done look" they get.
