Jennifer Garner made her triumphant return to the red carpet last night for the premiere of The Odd Life of Timothy Green. At first I thought this might be her first red carpet appearance since having her son, Samuel, in late February, but that’s not correct. She made an equally lovely appearance at Cinemacon back in April.
Our friends at Red Carpet Fashion Awards point out that Garner’s gorgeous red draped dress is Lanvin, and that it retails for $2,425. I own a similar red draped dress that gathers at the waist instead of the side, but I got it at TJ Maxx and it cost about $40 I think. (I just spent way too long googling it and getting lost in some great fashion blogs. I’m away from home or would just look at the label. Here’s a dress from Elie Tahari that’s a little more fitted and expensive, but still somewhat affordable.)
I’m not a fan of Garner’s shoes, which are dressy enough but seem to be a little plain and “safe” for this look. Still, that’s a minor complaint and I like how she matched her accessories to the sequins on her shoes. They coordinate without being overkill.
I love her slightly messy updo and elegant, subtle makeup. She could have gone with a red lip to match her dress, but either she or her makeup artist smartly chose a blush shade. She looks great!
The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a Disney movie about a childless couple who become instant parents to a magical kid who grows overnight in their garden. The trailer makes it seem very schmaltzy and predictable, but at least it’s a film you can take the whole family to. We need more of those. It’s out August 15th and co-stars Joel Edgerton, who’s shown here with Garner. He’s arguably hot, but he isn’t doing it for me with that hair. Here’s the trailer.

This does look like a good story, but I saw the preview when I went to watch the Wimpy Kid movie with my son and I got a little weepy, so I might have to skip it.

I know that Lainey thinks she personifies “Taupe”…
But I have always thought JG is truly lovely. Not in that boobs-in-your-face Jenny McCarthy way…not in the oddly lovely bone structure of say, a Kristen Stewart…but lovely and wholesome in a very endearing way. I love that she’s never been a wild child, has never been arrested at the Marmont and will never have a reality series with her brainless, venal family.
I think the dress is beautifully draped and flattering. I do agree that its a safe choice…but Lanvin rarely disappoints. And she’s had THREE kids? Wow. I think she nailed the it. Lovely.

Yes! Whoever did her makeup here is who she should keep going to. The rouching of the dress really shows off her mommy curves and hides the tummy and this is a great color on her. The shoes, blech.

I used to be really on the fence about her, but I’ve come around. She looks so pretty here and not ‘in-your-face’. Sometimes subtlety is key.

I completely agree Genevieve! I have been a big Garner fan since Alias. I LOVE that she isn’t a trainwreck. When Lainey calls her “taupe” what she really is wishing is that Jen would be more of a diva/trainwreck/homewrecker so that it would make for good gossip. IMO, that is just a HORRIBLE way to think about your fellow human beings: wishing their lives would take a turn for the worse for your own entertainment. If I want to see drama, there is scripted drama available or a good documentary about the horrors of the world.
There is just too much schadenfreude in our society now days. I have no problem being happy for other people’s happiness.

I find it sad that people call her boring because she doesn’t get steaming drunk/arrested/have affairs.
I’m not a fan of her acting but she seems like a good Mum and she dresses elegantly for the red carpet (although the bust and shoulders on that dress seem off).

Look, I was a fan in the Alias days until I realized she had very little range and she later became a rather dull screen presence. I think it’s lovely that she is a good mommy and dresses well…but why in the world would that make her interesting to me (especially on screen)? I know a lot of nice mommies, and I wouldn’t go see their movies either if their screen presence was dull!

I thought Jen was REALLY good in Juno. I have never had the urge to have children, but I thought her performance as a woman who couldn’t have children was very powerful. Her pain and anguish was palpable to me.

I love JGardner, and she looks great for someone who had a baby 6months ago, which made me go to ur April link, and she looked equally gorgeous. But made me think, how is it only awkward for beyonce to look good after 2, 4 months she gave birth, but its never strange or arguable for top models who give birth 2 months before going to the VS show looking super skinny? My sister had her baby 7 weeks ago and shes back to where she was before getting pregnant, all because she worked hard for it, and always exercised before, during and after her pregnancy.
Lol. I guess its just a matter of choosing where to point your finger to….

I am not loving the top half of the dress. The cut makes Jen look like she has a linebacker’s build (huge broad shoulders) when she doesn’t. It’s just odd. The shoes are wrong for the dress. I do like the makeup and hair and the ruching of the dress, and the fact that she went for red but didn’t use red lipstick. Those parts are good, at least.

She’s not a classic beauty, but when she gets dolled up, she can look marvelous.
In this instance, so short after giving birth to her third child, I think she looks fantastic. Her hair is a bit wispy, but her makeup is great and that dress looks great on her.
She looks healthy and happy and very attractive. When she gets her “primp” on, she can knock it out of the park.

She’s always been extremely attractive, especially when she dresses up. In her casual attire, however, she tends to let herself go too much and looks too blah. But she and Ben seem to be happy and all. She’s a good actress and seems like a really good person, so I’ve always rooted for Jennifer :- ))

That trailer just made me weepy. Having suffered from infertility i could completely relate to those feelings they were having at the beginning. The rest of the trailer looks super cheesy/disney but the first part really got me. Someone else mentioned how great of a job she did in Juno with a similar infertility story line. I feel she is quite a good actress. I even thought she was good in 13 going on 30, although that was super cheesy too. She makes me believe her.
