Samantha Brick got death threats for being so beautiful: “I felt violated”

A quick question for our UK readers: is Samantha “There are downsides to being this pretty” Brick now a legit celebrity over there? I’m asking because I found a ton of new photos of Brick, and it seems like she’s still getting a lot of attention – like, she’s something of a “reality star” in the UK now, only she doesn’t have a reality show, she just lives in a delusional world of her making and she occasionally writes about it.

In case you’ve already forgotten Brick, she’s the woman who created an international firestorm when she wrote an essay for The Daily Mail called “There are downsides to being this pretty” complete with photos of Brick looking like this, in which she claimed that men always hit on her and called her gorgeous and women were always, always JELLY of her. She followed up that essay with another one in which she compared herself to Angelina Jolie, and then there was another piece a few months ago in which she claimed her marriage was the best thing ever because she’s submissive to an emotionally stunted husband who weighs her every morning, and who would dump her if she gained more than a few pounds. So… let’s check in with Samantha Brick, shall we?

When Samantha Brick wrote an essay titled, “There are downsides to looking this pretty: Why women hate me for being beautiful,” she thought she was sending an important message to ladies around the world.

Instead, she was flooded with a barrage of Internet bashing and hate mail. Now, Samantha tells In Touch some went so far as to trash her — and even threaten her life.

“They said, ‘You should die. You should be bricked to death,’ playing on my last name,” the 41-year-old Birmingham, England, native tells In Touch, four months after her April 2 article ran in the U.K. Daily Mail. “They attacked the way I look — my teeth, my breasts, everything.”

Samantha says a friend even got a call from a stranger claiming to be holding Samantha hostage. “It was surreal,” she says. “I felt violated.”

Although Samantha admits the attacks forced her to question, for the first time, just how pretty she really is, and even made her contemplate getting plastic surgery, she now has her self-confidence back — and has no regrets. “I still get e-mails from models, housewives and ordinary women,” she tells In Touch, “thanking me for telling their story.”

[From In Touch Weekly]

Obviously, death threats are always horrible and no one should condone them. I don’t really understand how someone could have read any of Brick’s essays and come away with “She should die.” Brick is just some crazy lady, spouting off her delusions into the world. What Glenn Beck is to politics, Samantha Brick is to feminism. Nonsensical, harmless, crazy.

Oh, and I found an answer to my own question – Samantha IS a celebrity now. She just joined the cast of the new season of the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother. That should be a treat for the UK. But how will Samantha’s French husband deal with her absence?

    Looking good Sam 🙂

  2. Holl says:

She’s pretty in an earthy way. but that’s it. I see flaws Miss Brick and if Christian Troy had his red pen he would so mark you up for fixing…i’m on a nip/tuck fix right now…lol

    • GLS says:

      Haha he would!

    • Tansey says:

Oh I’d love to see that! Kimber thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world…then Dr. Troy inked her up and she broke down in tears. The thing though, Kimber was a 10 before the red pen (IMO). Samantha Brick? She’s a 3, maybe a 4. I’m not saying that to be mean or anything, I’m a straight woman who has no problem saying when I think a woman is pretty, beautiful or drop dead gorgeous. Samantha “Needs to get hit with a” Brick though? She took a fall from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. I just don’t see any appeal in her.

  3. islandwalker says:

Please stop giving this desperate woman press time.

    • TrustMeOnThis says:

+1. People don’t hate on her because of her looks. They hate on her because of her narcissistic and deluded natterings. Please, leave her to the daily mail!

    • Genevieve says:

      +2

First of all, this headline and the accompanying photos are a COMPLETE contradiction in terms. It’s so pitiful it’s laughable.

Secondly, get over your delusional self, Samantha.

Samantha Brick AND Rielle Hunter…please go AWAY!

      • JudyK says:

I’m giving a +2 to Genevieve on both counts: Samantha and Rielle.

Samantha is not ugly, but she is only average with a super-inflated EGO…and that IS ugly.

  4. RHONYC says:

her kankles are the size of that dude’s thighs. i ain’t mad at her. 😉

  5. Jessica says:

    Um.. ner.

  6. bowers says:

She’s ok but she likely received threats because she’s a narcissist.

  7. cr says:

My first two thoughts are shallow-she actually looks better in the recent pics, and that leads to my second though, has she had work done?

    • Miz Misanthrope says:

She’s got that overly shiny fresh Botox look about her…cause you know freezing your face makes you so much more attractive.

Personally I still love the skewering they gave the whole thing on 10 O’clock Live in the UK-Charlie Brooker is a genius.

    • Esmom says:

Those were my exact thoughts, too! I think looking better, whether by natural or surgical means, is what getting one’s “15 minutes” will prompt one to do.

      • Annie says:

The original article used all the least flattering photos of her intentionally to stir up controversy. She’s still only average to slightly above to look at. She’s a typical type of loudmouth, narcisistic basic bitch. Every workplace and highschool has one.

  8. Lindy says:

Can we just all kind of send up a giant, collective “B!tch, PLEASE!” and then pretend she doesn’t exist? Seriously, she is so weird. And her “everyone hates me because I’m so pretty” schtick is old.

  9. dori says:

Her baby teeth kinda ruin everything.

  10. Ella says:

I don’t want to kill her, but I do want to ignore her pretty badly.

  11. carrie b. says:

Kaiser, to answer your question, no. She’s not a legit celebrity. At least, not yet. I’d say she’s a bit of a curiosity but that’s all. She hasn’t received that much attention since the original post and subsequent backlash. But there’s always time.

    • Katija says:

What *is* a celebrity in this day and age though? Not to get too philosophical, but more teens probably know who the cries-over-Twilight big British girl is than say, old movie stars.

  12. cupidityrox! says:

Does she still live in the French countryside?

    • original almond says:

That’s the real issue here. Are they having this Big Brother edition abroad?

      • Guesto says:

Why? It’s not confined to British celebs. Doors are open to anyone the producers think might make interesting watching and are in need of a career push. Countless Americans have been on CBB.

  13. gg says:

    SHE’S ONLY 41???? I thought she was a fairly well-preserved 51.

Big Brother folk are going to eat her alive, if they don’t vote her out first. But she wanted the attention …

    • paola says:

Exactly! I was about to say that she might be beautiful on Mars, but here on planet Earth she isn’t. maybe she was cute 30 years ago but then i realized that 30 years ago she would have been 11 … but i have to say her baby teeth still look good even NOW!

    • TTT says:

I think she looks good for her age.

      Flame me.

  14. Guesto says:

No, not a celebrity. Being a celebrity is not a requirement for Celebrity Big Brother, you just need to have some sort – any sort – of media profile, and Sam Brick created one for herself with her deliberately and transparently provocative drivel in the Daily Tripe.

The most notable thing about Sam ‘too beautiful for this world’ Brick is how dull and mediocre she is in reality.

    • oh dear says:

totally agree. i mean, there is a reason why all the “celebs” going into the house had to wear name tags! lol
the only one who didnt need one was the six pack dude from jersey shore lol

anyway, cant wait to watch tonights episode, im dying to see whether all the other female housemates will dislike her.. because.. you know.. shes so damn beautiful and theyre so effin jealous lol

  15. Lulu says:

This awful woman and The Situation are going to be ruining my tv for the next 3 weeks, the only thing she has done was one artical, not sure why we’re including her in a celeb bb, and the Situation, well, hopefully he gets kicked out pretty quickly and sent back to the US.

    • Guesto says:

Honestly, I can’t see her featuring much. There are far bigger personalities in there and I just don’t think she has either the wit or the intelligence to warrant much attention. I doubt she’ll be the first out but she’s the sort of person who could go into the garden, never return, and probably wouldn’t even be missed.

      • Esmom says:

Yes, I’d guess, based on how flummoxed and unassertive she was in initial interviews during the initial s*&#storm she caused, that she probably won’t be chewing up major screen time.

    • marie says:

oh no, he’s over there now-you’re gonna need to keep him, no take backs!

  16. Chicagogurl17 says:

Black sequins booty shorts, check! Bow tie and wrist cuffs, check! Flip flops, check!

    Pulling it off, smirk!

  17. tru tru says:

Since she is NOW on a reality show, its obvious she is an attention whore and lovin it–just not the death threats part.

    sad

  18. Jacq says:

I imagine it came as a shock to her that few people found her as beautiful as she finds herself…

  19. palermo says:

I’m completely sick of reading about this delusional woman

  20. Mary says:

I don’t get this. She’s so…ordinary. I wouldn’t be able to pick her out in a lineup with ten other mid-40s soccer moms.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think she’s ugly at all, she’s really quite cute, but why is she a Somebody?

  21. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Where can I watch this mess if I live in the US?

  22. Aussie girl says:

Yes I too get deaths because I look like a 51 year old tuck shop mum! Bitch please. Whatever she is smoking I wouldn’t mind a hit. Having self esteem is good but having to much is just sad.

  23. S_____ says:

This couldn’t be less true, of Beck I mean.
“What Glenn Beck is to politics, Samantha Brick is to feminism. Nonsensical, harmless, crazy.”
Whether this really had anything to do with Beck or not: http://www.examiner.com/article/did-beck-s-9-12-protest-inspire-census-worker-s-murder There’s no denying that Glenn Beck’s inflamed and angry rhetoric ignites a certain segment of the right wing in ways that are… not positive. If I’m tying to be nice about it.

    • Katija says:

Glenn Beck seriously is not the worst of them. Honestly. Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh are WAAAAAAY more incendiary.

I hate to be the token Beck defender and I hope I don’t get killed, but he gets this bad rap for what is tantamount to a lot of crying and sucking up to Bible thumpers. His reputation is worse than the crap he actually says.

I am not a Beck fan who nods to everything he says while clutching my gun and chanting “USA” by any means… but I listen to a lot of talk, and he comes on occasionally. I think he actually means well. Unlike Michael Savage, who is like… legit evil.

    • mayamae says:

I thought the same thing. Insanity can be very dangerous.

  24. void says:

If she get’s death threats for being so “pretty” then I’m pretty sure everyone above a 6 on the hot scale routinely has to dodge assassination attempts. She is average.

  25. bubbles says:

I would not be surprised if she herself wrote the death threats and all the other nonsense she claims poeple are writing to her. she is truly messed up in the head. why do we care about her?

    • TTT says:

The angry stuff that people wrote was online, this was a few months back after she published that article. I remember reading the comments. Some of the comments were death threats or at least, death wishes. Even if I didn’t agree with someone or thought they were a raving narcissist, I would not wish death on them. If the woman annoys people, the best thing for them to do is avoid and ignore her.

  26. iloveretro says:

“What Glenn Beck is to politics, Samantha Brick is to feminism.” -Amen!

My initial reaction to her latest self-absorbed bleating?

Shut up, you ridiculous little twit. The only thing you felt is glee at getting your very average face all over the international news for fifteen minutes.

  27. Adrien says:

Whatever, Todd Palin is a considered a celebrity here.

  28. Katija says:

So… an average woman can say she’s beautiful, and be beautiful? It just becomes true?

Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender are my live-in house boys. I’ve said it, now it has to be true!!!

    • Kate (from Canada) says:

      hahahahaha nice!

p.s did you notice there is a katyusha on this forum too! i’ve never been around so many people with the same name as me lol but i spell mine with a y.

      • Katija says:

Mine is tantamount to a spelling error, LOL. From what I know, most Russians spell it K-A-T-Y-A. But my parents used the first English spelling showed to them, which is Scandinavian. No harm no foul 🙂

  29. Psyren says:

    “…playing on my last name.”

So glad she explained that. Our brains couldn’t have pieced that one together without her laying it out for us.

    • Katija says:

I am so confused. When we call Lindsay Lohan “Blohan,” is that a play on words too? What about “Brangelina?” Why can’t other people clarify things the way Samantha Brick does? URGH!

  30. MerryHappy says:

You mean celebrity big brother managed to drag her from the French countryside?! You all know she lives in the country in France, right? The lovely French countryside.

  31. Camilla says:

So over this woman and her act. she needs to shut up because she is no stunner

  32. wilkiecollins says:

I just don’t get it, average at best

  33. DANDILION says:

Desperate to make a name.. extra money in journalism.. any strange tales plus a few lies to provoke responses will do..

  34. tara says:

    aw….behold the rarest of beauties!

  35. Bankie says:

    Oh – EmM – Gee

    She is so… beautiful.

And people hate Kobe because he’s full of himself.

    Lookin’ good, Sam.

  36. TTT says:

I think her main point was that women are often hostile to women who they perceive as being younger, more attractive or thinner than they are. She did not make this point very well.

I am in my 40s now, it does not one bit of good to go around hating women in their 20s. Yet, I know women my age who do just that. I think its pathetic.

I think women need to learn to support each other, instead of tearing each other down.

    • Kiyoshigirl says:

I’m also in my 40’s and worse than a 40 year-old ragging on younger women are the ones who rag on other 40 year-old women, comparing, judging, rating, sniping, etc. I do believe this woman was trying to make a valid point about women and their competition with each other, but yes she failed…big time. It’s something that’s never going to change, but if she reached even one catty bitch who checked herself the next time she was going to put down her neighbor or co-worker’s looks, then it was worth this whole debacle. Almost predictably her pieces drove women out of the wood work who couldn’t wait to dog on her looks. Life is strange.

      • TTT says:

I don’t go around ragging on other women that I know, if that is the point you are trying to make.

But yes, I do think its pathetic in general for a woman to rate, judge, snipe at other women just because she is jealous. I know women who do this; I don’t “rag” on them for it, as you put it. But I am entitled to my private opinion that their behavior is self-loathing.

  37. Vibius says:

Maybe its the 4 hour 70s Show marathon from yesterday, but she reminds me of Jackie. Shes not a bitch, the real problem is – “Im too cute and all the other girls are jealous”

  38. Theresa says:

Please tell me that all producers (regardless of country) of these reality shows are no better or different than the circus barkers of old. They believe the creatures they seek out and put on display are freaks, don’t care if they are as long as they bring in the crowds, and the money. That they don’t believe there is anything redeeming about them except the money they generate. That they don’t mind exploiting them, as long as the contract is willingly signed. That they know the general TV watcher today is a willing participant in the exploitation, like slowing for a car crash, that we all like to mock from the sidelines but we don’t actually admire or respect the characters themselves. That we all know there is nothing to take away from this proliferation of trash on TV except that we should all strive to live our lives with dignity and self-respect, just so’s we don’t end up like these clowns. That it doesn’t matter how much money they are willing to offer, that most decent citizens would never put themselves in a reality show of any kind. So that the people (I use the term loosely) that offer themselves up like lambs to the slaughter are defective in some way, and do not represent the majority, and therefore the future of society is still bright…

For anything else to be true, for the opposite to be the future, would put me in such a tailspin of despair and hopelessness as to never recover.

    Someone, reassure me, please.

  39. Trashaddict says:

WTF. There is no more to say.

  40. Deryn says:

“But how will Samantha’s French husband deal with her absence?”

    Samantha’s French husband: Le PHEW!

  41. citygirlsf says:

In interviews she’s prettier than in photos…still, not all that fascinating. Her personality didn’t burn through the screen.

  42. Jade says:

I’ve never heard of her till now? Maybe i don’t watch enough junk tv but i wouldn’t say she’s a “celeb” over here given that i don’t know who she is.
Although, programs like big brother are made for brainless watching.
I do agree the reason people will dislike a person like that is because of the attitude and narcissistic views. She looks okay but i wouldn’t compare her to Angelina Jolie by any measure. Maybe the chelsea handler lady over in the US, but it’s hard to hate someone you’ve never heard of.

  43. cocogirl says:

Oh please, deluded she may be but at least she can string a coherent sentence together. That is something that is still to be desired in the idiotic reality ‘stars’ america have spewed out.

  44. Laura says:

She looks better than she used to. Has she tended more to her looks or gotten work? Regardless, any woman who whines about the curse of beauty is stupid. I’ve always been told I’m beautiful (though definitely not movie star gorgeous-though I never wear makeup) and it has opened a lot of doors for me *shrug*.

OT I know but Glenn Beck is not harmless. My poor alarmist parents eat up his every word with a spoon and he terrifies them with his doomsday predictions.
Also, while I am a fairly conservative independent who did not and will not vote for Obama, Beck’s comments on him tend toward the out of line.
