At last night’s VMAs we had a lot of edgier looks, particularly Miley Cyrus, whose bleach blonde shaved side mohawk is being compared to Pink’s. (Kaiser will cover Pink shortly. You know that Pink has had that style for much longer than Miley.) Miley actually introduced Pink’s performance, along with Mac Miller, so it doesn’t seem like there are any hard feelings there. Pink seems like she’s cool with everyone, I doubt she minds.
In contrast to her hair, which is too much in my opinion, Miley wore a deep-cut black Emilio Pucci gown with sheer diagonal panels. It was a gothic but modern looking dress and I thought it was striking and went very well with her new image. (A better view of the dress is here.) She even showed some cleavage. For Miley, the girl who “forgets” to wear pants or a bra on a regular basis, this was not a low-cut or revealing dress. We’re not seeing any nipple here. She should have worn her hair down, though, this is too Bride of Frankenstein. Pink pretty much owns that style.
MSN reminds us that this is what Miley looked like just a year ago. (The photo below is from April, 2011.) She’s gone through some big changes this year. At least her tattoos are relatively minor and low-key. As someone who went through a similar goth period, I’m thinking she’s experimenting in a way that is typical and normal, especially considering her career.
Emma Watson’s colorful Peter Pilotto number was killer, in my opinion. It’s very daring but somehow it works on her and her amazing figure. This reminds me of a similar little Brood dress she wore, with black piping and very modern lines, earlier this year. I love her shoes too. Redcarpet-Fashion Awards identifies them as Tom Ford, and I feel like I’ve seen them on other celebrity feet this season. They go well with her dress while remaining understated and not too matchy.
Emma is seen with her Perks of Being a Wallflower costar, Ezra Miller. They look really cozy but we haven’t heard rumors about them so I doubt they’re more than friends. (Update: Ezra came out as gay last month.) These two introduced Green Day’s performance together. Their film is out on September 21 and it looks really good. I just re-watched the trailer and it reminds me of the John Hughes movies of my youth. I want to see it!

That’s the hairdo of a 50+yr old-attention-wanting-post-divorce-crisis on the Vegas strip, not a young woman.
I guess alot of women of that age want to try platinum hair – it rarely looks good. Not great on her – the color is bad.
She seems to be trying to ‘find’ herself. I imagine this will just be an embarrassing photo later.

Ezra Miller is gay and out, definitely hot, but unfortunately from what I’ve read on him more than a bit full of himself and heavily into being an “artist”. Those are the actors that get unlikable very quickly. Maybe he has learned to tone it down?

I think you have to have perfect facial features to carry off that hairstyle. Miley is a pretty girl but the hair style does not flatter her face. It is too harsh and makes her look puffy and older (not in a good way).

My thoughts exactly on Miley. In theory that hair is cool and fun but you need the right face for it and a round face is not it. It should be more angular or … I don’t know, delicate? Coupled with the blonde … oy. No. It looks harsh. She could’ve cut and dyed it differently so that the change would’ve been drastic but not so unflattering.
I do like the dress and her body is amazing.

A pretty girl but I wonder if she really can let go of being in the spotlights. Didn’t she want to take a year of? I don’t think living on Twitter showing off every banal thing you consider ‘edgy’ and showing up to these events while you having nothing going on careerwise (besides making people sure you still exist should you want to start a new project) is taking a break.
Miller was amazing in We Need to Talk About Kevin. Fantastic actor, beautiful face although the hair, faux-intelligent attitude and the stoned interview(s) are doing him any favours. He had a fling with Zoe Kravitz in 2010 (met on set of some film that escapes me).
Watson is very chique as usual although I wonder where her career is going. I thought she would explode after HP but she became kind of meh. The momentum is gone.

I don’t think the momentum is gone because she seems to be an in demand actress at the moment. She is working with darren aronofsky as russel crowe’s daughter in Noah, and before that she filmed a movie directed by sofia coppola. And she confirmed that she will be working with guillerno deltoro on beauty and the beast. So, not bad at all! I think there was also talk about emma being the lead in an adaption of “your voice in my head” with stanley tucci, the kind of role that attracts awards nominations. I think she is not a very good actress, she seems to have limited range, and she is less interesting and talented than someone like Mia Wasikowska, Saoirse Ronan or Carey Mulligan, IMO. But she has screen presence, she is cute and seems professional and I do think she will have the best career out of the harry potter kids, IMHO.

I think because of her hunger for fame, she isn’t denying any decent film role. But if she doesn’t make it work, make her mark in the industry, that last wave of HP-succes is going to stop some day.
There is no way she will ever be on par with Lawrence, Mulligan etc…Limited talent and cuteness can only take you so far and she needs more charisma to stand out. She can’t play the ingenue forever.
If you follow some lowkey blogs, there are stories about her acting like a brat on set. There’s friction on every set though and some site are really just hating for the sake of it so I’ll take it with a grain of salt.
I think Watson is very calculated. She is very Hollywood and A-list hungry. She is no stranger to photo-ops, perfume commercials etc. Is she still pretending to be interested in higher education btw? Very image conscious.
Radcliffe is more versatile in his parts (theatre, tv and film, different genres) and that is more challenging and interesting. He’s taking risk because I presume he loves acting but not because he wants to be a moviestar. Depending on their goals, they probably both have the best careers they wanted. Who will have the longest career however is impossible to tell for now.
Rupert Grint does…what he wants. They all have the money so they can do what they want. Grint is getting cast and I don’t think he wants what Watson or Radcliffe have. Much more laidback, not anxious for something. I think

This hair cut isn’t the first I would have expected for her but honestly, I’m glad to see her adopting at least some form of STYLE. Up until now she looked like she could have been any-girl from any-town usa. There was nothing defining about her at all and with the extensions and flowery clothes etc I think up until now she has come off extremely generic.
She’s very pretty and this whole thing may just be a phase but at least it means shes on her way to finding a “look”.
Fashion and style are not the same thing and I think right now she is trying to find her own style but unlike any of us, she has to do so in the public eye.

All the hair style experimentation won’t change the fact that she has no talent, can’t sing act or dance, and she’s experiencing the disney consequences that once your run is over and there’s no more money to be made disney moves on – I know it’s probably impossible to leave the spotlight but she needs to get an education a real job and forgot about lalaland. It’s interesting that there are still dozens of acts from the 60s/70s touring with strong fan bases (tina turner, hall and oates, kenny loggins, kc and the sunshine band, etc.) but she’s essentially washed up and over – 30 years from now who will want to see the miley cyrus nostalgia tour? Just a different perspective on how music and pop culture have changed over the last 3 decades.

Ezra came out as queer not gay. The difference is that queer indicates he has the potential to be sexually attracted to any gender representation (man, woman, gender queer, transgender) whereas gay would indicate he is mostly attracted to men only.

She can cut/dye her hair and do all the Pilates she wants, but she needs to stay the hell away from Jeff Buckley songs. Her voice is okay, but not great, and her attempt at that song made me wish I had the ability to go back in time. Miley needs to stick to pop songs, that’s her niche, and she’s good at that. Miley: Props for changing it up a little. Most starlets wouldn’t have the nerve, and most therefore condemn themselves to die in their bleach blond Heidi Montag-ness. With that said, you can have a 90s goth mall dress or you can have an 80s platinum fauxhawk. You can’t have them both, especially at the same time. Personally I’d pick the fauxhawk- it has daring written all over it, unlike a wrinkled Morticia Adams castoff.
As for Emma Whatserface, I have always thought that she and the rest of the Harry Potter kids were the most boring and overrated people in the movie industry. I don’t get all the fuss over any of them! Horrible dress, and bangin’ shoes. Okay I’m done now.
